A tragic accident left eleven-year-old Hope Steward with an extraordinary power that is both blessing and curse. Her touch alone can heal those suffering from horrifying afflictions ... or subject them to an unspeakable fate.
Now, a once-innocent child has become the prey in a monstrous hunt. Her scientist father is determined to exploit her frightening gift, a relentless government agent is out to kill her -- and a damaged soul called Monkey vows to deliver her to the mercies of the fiendish forces he serves....
Creepy and satisfying, this book manages to be perfectly lucid in its presentation while at the same time leaving you wondering what is real, who is delusional, who is evil. It's a look at a power that maybe runs wild sometimes, maybe is redirected intentionally, maybe for good reason, maybe for bad. This tension continues well into the second half of the book, and yet there is no confusion; the writing is clear and direct. Now that's talent.
The greatest compliment that I can give a book or movie is that it was “F-ed up!” Dark of the Eye was seriously f-ed up. Some of Clegg’s crazy-haunting imagery will rattle around in my head forever. A great balancing act between science-thriller and horror, reminiscent of Koontz’s best work: Phantoms, Strangers, Watchers, except that Clegg’s horror elements are wholly original and out of left field. It’s an intense ride. I’ll be reading this one again!
A young girl is kidnapped by a man (The Shadow) with a personality disorder! He does something despicable and is getting ready to do the same. Then there's an accident and they both wind up in the hospital. The young girl (Hope) is taken from the hospital and they run off to a small California town. Lots of twists and turns! I gave it 4.0 stars! Give it a whirl!
As a fan of Clegg, I really wish I'd like this more than I did. However, while a decent core idea and well-written, it's a mess of random mysterious bits where nothing makes sense until the last quarter of the book. Once they're tied together, though, they still just feel oddly disparate and forced.
hello Thomas here from northern Michigan. I just read dark of the eye by Douglas Clegg. this book is not that good and totally unbelievable. Clegg is a much better author than what this book shows.I I am going to read Isis by Clegg now. I hope its much better than dark of the eye. chow for now gang. peace out. thomas
This was my first Douglas Clegg novel. Reminded me a little of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Bentley Little all mixed together. Mad Doctors, Child Death Cult, Alien Virus, and Goverment Conspiracy consist the story. It was interesting, but a little graphic, without being outright gross and distasteful. Story was fast paced, and moved through the plot believably. Many of the characters were insane, so sometimes the story went in that direction as well, and you will find yourself confused some of the time, but it was worth a read.
It's almost as if they are describing another book altogether and I was very disappointed. Goat Dance being the book it was, my favorite of all , I am confused...multiple characters and a far out story is just my thing but this was just a mash up of characters and poorly woven together story lines.
