Smart mouthed Taci Andrews is an investigative reporter for the Riverdale Times with a lot on her plate. Between receiving a dreaded invitation to her fifteen year high school reunion, her best friend's divorce drama and her own solitary dating status her fun meter is pretty much pegged. When Taci's partner goes missing while covering a missing child feature she is suddenly thrown into the story of her career, which oddly enough delves into a past she would rather forget. She soon finds herself squaring off against a malicious class Barbie Doll, the High School Quarterback and a steamy Fireman from her past whose deep blue eyes are still enough to curl her toes. It's full speed ahead in this sassy, page turning, first book of the series, where Taci must learn to put the past to rest before she winds up next on the missing person's list.

An easy-reading mystery adventure starring twenty-something reporter Taci Andrews hot on the trail of an old schoolfriend’s missing thirteen-year-old, Deadly Reunion certainly has an exciting premise. Taci’s not quite so excited about the upcoming class reunion though, and her love-interest fireman’s a little concerned about the suspicious disappearance of the reporter whose case Taci’s just taken over. Meanwhile mother and father of missing teen have way too many things to think about, and legal shenanigans just might be password protected on a computer.
What to wear and what to eat become vital concerns while threats are easily ignored and siblings spar. The sense of danger is kept to a minimum. Detailed reporter behavior lacks some conviction. And the small-town feel with everyone having been in school with everyone else is slightly claustrophobic, but perhaps I just felt that way because I wanted the small town to worry more about the missing child.
Sexual tension, sassy dialog, cures for the common hangover, and a first-person narrator with more bravery than common sense, Deadly Reunion reads with the same sort of pull as the protagonist’s midnight feast of Oreos. It’s advertised as first in the reporter Taci Andrews series, so there should be more Oreos coming soon to a virtual bookshelf near you.
Disclosure: I received a free ecopy of this novel from World Literary Café in exchange for my honest review.
This is the first book in a series that I know will go far. Author Amy Manemann shows a great writing style and a deeply involved plot in this first book published.
Taci Andrews is a great Alpha female who doesn’t let the Alpha males around her control her or manipulator her into doing the “safe” thing. She has her own mind, and she does what she wants, when she wants and doesn’t much care what others think. Her sharp wit and the banter that goes among the characters is playful and brought many smiles to my face as I read it.
Ms. Manemann’s ability to write a strong character without being over bearing was done very well. She also did a great job with hiding some of the plot twists that came about throughout the story. Her descriptions were well thought out and gave you what you needed without overdoing anything.
I look forward to reading more from Ms. Manemann, especially the next installment of “The Taci Andrews Deadly Series”.
I like a good mystery which you may have noticed by reading many of my reviews. DEADLY REUNION is an excellent one.
Taci, an investigative reporter, has a High School reunion coming up. In the meantime, some of her ex-classmates are involved with a mysterious event - a daughter of one is missing.
Taci's boss asks her to take over the case when the reporter assigned goes missing, another mystery. When this happens, it seems that all her schoolmates come out of the woodwork, including one man who was a pain-in-the-ass when she was growing up.
In asking around, meeting with people she didn't care for in the school, which seemed to be mutual, she uncovers the real crime. Many turns of events lead to an explosive ending, literally.
Ms. Manemann's writing kept me on my toes and thinking of where Taci was going with her investigation. Ingenuity and guts are Taci's style.
The backup characters are interesting helping to maintain an enjoyable series which may have a romantic ending too.
4 stars! I guess I was a little disappointed in this book in that I thought it would be more about Taci Andrews' Fifteen Year High School Class Reunion than what it was. All the characters talked about the reunion and it's leading up to it throughout the book, but it took until the Epilogue of the book for the reunion to actually occur, and it was quite short, thus lacking. I guess my expectations were what was to occur at the reunion. Perhaps the title of the book is a little misleading? Or, perhaps the reunion should have taken place first and the rest of the story's events could have played out from the events at the reunion? I really liked the character, Taci Andrews. She is an Investigative Reporter for the Riverdale Times, and gets her hands full with several stories she starts investigating. She was a lot of fun, very witty, spicy, and humorous. She did a great job in her profession as she had three mysterious cases going on all at the same time and they were not simple ones at that. Even her life gets threatened at one point. These cases also involved fellow classmates. We also have a little flirting with a helpful former 'hot' classmate, now 'hot' Fireman. Add a little more mystery through all of this, and it helped to make up for my disappointment about the actual reunion never seeming to occur. I really do like Amy Manneman's style of writing. It kept me reading and wanting to know what was going to happen next. It was definitely full of action and did not lull at all, which makes me give this book a 4 star rating for sure! At the end of the book she gives us Chapter One of her next book in the Taci Andrews series called Deadly Science. Now this chapter sucked me right in right away! This book sounds VERY promising, indeed. I will definitely be reading this next book for sure! I received this book for FREE from the author, Amy Manneman, in exchange to read the book and write a review about it. It is NOT required for the review to be either positive or negative, but, of my own opinion. I was provided with NO MONIES to read and write a review for this book, except for the pure enjoyment of reading it. Have you ever cringed at the thought of having to attend your high school reunion? In Amy Manemann’s Deadly Reunion, Taci Andrews has to do just that, as well as solve a mystery. Taci is a reporter for the Riverdale Times, a small town rag. Things begin to get a bit messy for her when her coworker goes missing after following up on a lead for the current big story- the disappearance of a local teen. The missing girl just happens to be the daughter of Taci’s high school nemesis- Valerie McAllister, and her once high-school quarterback husband. The craziest part is that neither parent seems overly concerned about their only child. Valerie, one of the ‘Barbie doll’ crowd, appears perfectly manicured and is more concerned that Taci make it to the reunion. Jason, her husband, seems to find it a nuisance to be bothered at his law office in any regard. But, even if Jason and Valerie can’t be bothered, Jason’s best friend from high school- and Taci’s worst nightmare- Tony Parson’s, is back in town to help out any way he can. Unfortunately for Taci, that means he is hanging around her office, her car, and her apartment.
Manemann does a great job with character development and nuances. Taci is a familiar friend, her brother and friends all personalities that are easy to get to know. Mannemen creates the needed friction and tension in Taci’s personal life as well. As much as Taci dislikes Tony for all his past torments, she can’t deny the incredible attraction that exists between them. Tony is all grown up and truly interested in a serious relationship with Taci, but all she can see is the boy in high school who took any opportunity to embarrass and torment her. As things get dangerous for Taci- and Tony proves he is there for her- Taci is surprised to find she returns his feelings.
Deadly Reunion has the perfect balance of witty romance and sleuthing to appeal to a wide variety of readers. I enjoyed it as a fast and fun read.
"Deadly Reunion" is a sassy, quick-paced mystery that had me laughing out loud from page one. Amy Manemann masterfully blends action, humor and smoldering romance throughout the entire book. The main character, investigative reporter Taci Andrews, is amazingly witty with just the right blend of snark and sarcasm to draw you back to the pages continuously to "hang out" with her. Her moody and ultra hot romantic interest, Tony the Firefighter, brings the sizzle to the story. Their cat and mouse flirtation is youthful enough for contemporary readers, yet strongly sensual enough so that readers will never mistake these two for anything but hot-blooded adults.
In the midst of the romantic heat, Taci finds herself in serious danger during her latest investigation into the disappearance of the daughter of former high school classmates. Of course, things are not what they seem at first glance, keeping this story true to it's mystery roots, and the twists, action, and triple surprise ending do not disappoint. At the end of the book, there is a teaser for the next installment of this series and, based on the excerpt, it promises to deliver a great read just as this first one did. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
A little mystery and a little romance made for a perfect combination to read during a winter weekend. As a reader, it is key to get connected with the main character and from page one, I wanted to get to know Taci and find out what led her to be thrown from a fiery building. As an invitation to her upcoming high school reunion arrives, she ends up reconnecting to those who stayed in her home town through the mystery of a high school rival's missing child.
With a former high school fling back in town working in the fire department, the romance was a good distraction to the mystery that she is trying to research for her job as a news reporter. I think their "relationship" was a nice addition to the story and didn't take away from the main story of the book.
With some definite twists and turns, this book when in a direction that I wasn't expecting but still loved. One may think that the missing child is the only mystery and you turn a corner and there is more to it - of course, I can't share because you must go get this one and see what all is going on behind the scenes in this small town in Iowa.
Taci Andrews is an investigative journalist for Riverdale Times. Though she has almost zero happenings in her personal life, there’s a lot happening around her that could make anyone feel a bit overwhelmed. A much dreaded high school reunion, a high profile ‘missing child’ case and a missing colleague isn’t enough. Her ex-flame reenters her life too!
The characterizations are amazing. Taci is a brave, smart, witty and yet sarcastic person. I loved her from the very first moment. Toni is simply great and I might have tried to compete with Traci for his affection, but then Traci and Toni are simply superb together. [Also the fact that Toni is a fictional character might have something to do with me not actually chasing him ;)]
The plot had really great potential which I feel was not completely explored. Things could have gotten a bit more dangerous perhaps? Also, I felt that the characters often had their priorities in a very wrong order. But overall, this is a fast paced romantic thriller with action, drama, suspense and comedy. It is worth a read and quite enjoyable.
This is the story of Taci Andrews who is a reporter, when a old classmate of hers requests her assistance searching for her missing daughter, Taci takes the case wanting to see what she can find out without getting in trouble by her boss for investigating. She finds herself bumping into Tony Parsons who makes her insides turn to jello.
What a crazy great book that dealt with people Taci went to school who have turned to the darker side of earning money. Taci uncovers so much in this story, she investigates the missing partner and missing child to find out what happened to her.
I love Amy's ability to tell a story including humor, adventure and a mystery to solve. A great author I will check out time and again!
Deadly Reunion is a mystery with a lot of human elements and humor involved. When you think of investigative reporters, Taci is exactly what you would want. She is feisty, dedicated to her work and full of comic relief. Whether she's manipulating a suspect, searching for cookies to eat or rolling her eyes at friends and family, she's a 10!
The book is well written and is an easy read, and just when you thought you had the ending figured out, another surprise comes. This is the first book in a series, and I can't wait to read the next!
Amy Manemann knows how to spin an interesting tale, with characters so real I felt I took on a new life, especially in the case of Taci Andrews, an investigative reporter who certainly knew how to put herself into dangerous situations.
I was interested in trying to find a teenage girl who appeared to have gone missing, though it was debatable whether she ran away. As the story unfolded, I was amazed at the actual turn of events and even more surprised by the ending. I thought, for sure, I had figured out the outcome but the author gave me a surprise, instead.
This is a fun, easy read with suspense and a touch of romance. Taci Andrews is very much a career woman. She is a reporter who picks up a story about a missing teen; her gut tells her that there is something else going on with the family besides their missing daughter. Going with her instincts she starts digging deeper and can’t believe what she finds. The only thing getting in her way from finding out the truth is Tony Parsons, the boy who drove her crazy in school. Now as a man he is back in town and driving her crazy again! Highly recommended fast paced book.
I enjoyed this book, although I did find that the storyline seemed to jump quite abruptly between the heroine’s love life and her professional one. It felt a little disjointed in places, but this did not detract from my enjoyment of the story. I would also recommend a little more editing and proofreading, just to polish it up. Overall I found the novel easy to read, fast paced and entertaining. I look forward to reading the sequel.
This was a fun and clever cozy! Amy Manemann is an excellent writer, but she seriously needs an editor. The characters are interesting, and Taci is a character you feel you would like to know. I'm looking forward to revisiting her in her next adventure.
