Agnes has never thought much of herself or her troublesome ability to commune with divine spirits, which has plagued her life with randomly sprouting mushrooms. But now that Prince Claude has assured her of his love and acceptance, she’s started to regain some of the confidence and self-esteem that she lost during her long, painful engagement to her ex-fiancé.
But Claude isn’t just a prince—he’s a man who carries Dragon’s Blood in his veins, and as his Dragonmate Agnes has to come to terms with what that means for their relationship. Before she gets much of a chance though, a new mystery begins to unfold—a number of discrepancies come up regarding the tragic carriage accident that sent Agnes’ parents to their deaths.
The two lovers head off to the spring where Agnes’ parents first met, searching for answers, but find their efforts stymied when Agnes is kidnapped and spirited away to the neighboring country of Orielle! Trapped in a foreign land, Agnes is forced to confront the truth behind her divine power, even as she comes face-to-face with the country’s royal family.
And when Prince Claude realizes Agnes has been taken from him, he just might develop a new power of his own…
Like the mushrooms, this series is really one that grows on you with every volume. In this one, we finally find the truth about Agnes' mushroom powers, her pink hair, and the story behind her parents' mysterious deaths. By no means was it a shocking revelation, but it was the satisfying conclusion that left my expectations satisfied.
The story itself really caught my fancy but the main character herself I still haven't quite warmed up to. She's a little too dense and insecure for my liking, personally. There were many moments in this volume where I wanted to rage at her with, "You seriously didn't see this coming?! Why are you surprised?". The book is mostly carried by its series of events and the general humor that's all throughout.
With this volume, the story seems to be winding down to a close. Unless they introduce new characters and developments, the next volume I can see as a nice ending overall.
The mushroom descriptions seem to be growing, but the emotional and action parts of the story are also getting better as well. It seems there was a lot more to Agne's father than she originally thought. We learn a significant amount about the powers in both of these two kingdoms and the royal families in this installment. Fortunately, the mushrooms do prove more than a little useful on several occasions. It'll be curious to see how things progress returning to their own kingdom with a tiger in tow now, even if it has at least temporarily shrunk in size. Good thing it can shrink though, otherwise there might be an issue if they wanted to fit everyone in the carriage going home.

Okay. The most exciting thing here was seeing Agnes use the mushrooms to walk around and save herself. I liked that. I wanted her to get back to Visage by herself and to figure things out for herself rather than just be a passive character that travels with the flow. I don't mind that Gerome was there, but I still think it'd be fun for her to finally wake up.
Now that we know where her powers come from, I wonder if we'll know why suddenly 7 years ago, Claude had an obsession with mushrooms. I guess there will be a fourth book...?

Despite a few moments of overly convenient plot moments, the story was good. Not particularly complicated and many bits were recycled from past moments. Despite that, I enjoyed reading this volume and laughed a bunch. I'm happy to see Agnes continue to grow and heal from her trauma.
