When Seth, a Keeper of the Gods, finds the two men he is destined to live eternity with, he must defy the very Gods themselves to save his mates and preserve the existence of man and love.
Discovering love with the one person who is fated to compliment everything that you are is blessing enough, but what do you do when another knight in shining armor sweeps you off your feet?
Jamie found a second chance at life when Loland rescued him from the ignorance and abuse of those who should have protected him. For years they struggled together to cope with Jamie's powers of precognition and his ability to absorb energy from living things.
After centuries of waiting for his other half, Seth finally met Loland, a man that embodied all he'd ever dreamt of in a mate. Meeting Loland's lover, Jamie, and finding that they are both his mates only made the pot sweeter. But while exploring the love they find as mates and the D/s relationships they crave, all three must challenge the will of the Gods and the twisted plans of Jamie's mysterious family.
Ultimately, Seth knows there is nothing he wouldn't do to save the lives and love of his mates.
I have always been a lover of books, particularly those with the dichotomy of the strong alpha male and the weaker love of their life which they must rescue. After reading all I could find in M/F books, I decided to give M/M fiction a try and my addiction skyrocketed.
Hot, sexy men times two? No contest. Unfortunately, I was reading faster than the authors could produce. Eventually, I resorted to imagining my own stories and my mind took off from there.
I have to admit, though, I am a bit of a recluse. If not for the joy and humour my husband and four boys bring to me, I would never have ventured this far.
Wow, this review turned into a huge rant. The TLDR is the premise was so good, and from the opening section the author has talent. Then they blew it. Bad writing and plotting ruined good characters.
Full rant below.
OMG that was so not very good! I'm really suprised at all the high ratings. You know that thing about cheap/fast/good: pick any two? Well there should be one for paranormal/menage/BDSM: pick any two. Add in an agoraphobic MC recovering from years of institutionalised sexual abuse, a rebellious God trying to take over the world, half-God offspring living in secret for three thousand years, fated mates, interior decoration, cooking, and it's just too much story for a one short book.
The start of the book was SO GOOD and I was really enjoying it. I know exactly when things got out of hand for the author: it was at 19%. Up till then: awesomeness. After this: every symptom of a first published book.
Too much telling, not enough showing (Hey, sub, so you already know the hard limits I agreed on with my other sub, right, in a conversation the reader will never ever get to hear about, let alone know what those hard limits might be, even though they'll apply to you too now). Establishing a plot (a good one too) then getting carried away and instituting a series of rapidly escalating crises that repeatedly redirect the point of the book. Far too many secondary characters: they are purposeless!!! Have only a few secondaries and let them actually contribute to driving the plot!
This made me so frustrated. It could have been such a good book even if McCoy included all three elements: two paranormals and one human establish a BDSM-based relationship. Kind of like the Deviations series, but with powers. Instead, because of all the other plot fragments hurled in there, NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS! The BDSM is marginal and seems like two scenes stuck in there because goddamn it, it says BDSM on the wrapper, so I'm gonna jam that in there somewhere. No sense of the relationship between the MCs. God knows what Loland is doing staying there, because absolutely none of his needs seem to be met. The poor guy is only in the book to make it a menage. Why on earth What point is there bringing Jace in there? You can't shoehorn a second love story about Jace and Cyaan into such a short book.
Worst egregious ignoring of potential goodness:
I will try not to write reviews at 1am any more, but man, this book's flaws got me wound up.
Started well enough, but shortly after turned into pure insanity. For the first time ever I found myself skimming through BDSM scenes. Son of Death, Jamie, is a whiny little bitch who I cannot stand. The big bad Dom, Seth, is uber crazed on sex. Instead of figuring out Jamie's situation - the "little one" (seriously? kindergarten much? bleh-acck .... One bleach, here, please, 9 ounces!) has issues upon issues, not to mention there is someone out there bent on doing him in, like now - Seth does nothing but f*ck his new toys for two weeks straight. Apparently, sex is a priority. Nothing makes sense in this story, there is no logic to characters' actions or thought process.
Read it for a challenge. 1 star.
PS I am removing BDSM tag. What happens in this books is a hot mess; it's not sexy, it's not enjoyable and it has major issues :/
I don't really know what to say, but I know it drives some people nuts when they see a 1 star without a review. So, I'll try to say something...
I really didn't care for the BDSM elements of this book (of which there were many). Sometimes BDSM doesn't bother me, but I really, really disliked it here. This author tried to cram way too much stuff into this book. There were tons of characters, many of whom were completely unnecessary. There were important elements to the plot that were mentioned and then forgotten. Worst of all, I didn't feel any sort of chemistry between the three main characters at all. It was like they were going through the motions because it seemed like a good idea at the time. Needless to say, I will not be continuing this series.
This is a hard review for me. This is a 2.5. I really liked this story and I connected with the characters at least to a point. The problem I have with it is that I just couldn't connect with any form of love in the story. There wasn't one tender love scene in the book. Nothing to connect the characters who admittedly lived in a BDSM world, to show anything but a brutal pain filled love for each other. It was hinted at, at the very end that there could be a moment of "awe" love, which was mocked at by the alpha male, but never shown. Although, I could sense through the rampant recriminations of the characters that they loved one another, the only physical sex scenes were so filled with violence that even the "care" that a Dom would have shown felt rushed through as everyone passes out in orgasmic bliss. Nothing is said about the Dom caring for the physical needs of his beaten and ravished subs. Not once is the Dom shown, after brutalizing his sub, to care for his bruises, applying ointment or dressing restraint marks on his sub, even after a severe lashing with a flogger.
I normally really like stories like this where the little guy has more inner strength and they get a HEA, but the lack of follow through for tenderness after such powerfully written violence left me wanting.
Hmm... I don't quite know what I think. I read this kind of in bits and pieces between my phone and my laptop, so there were parts I probably skipped and others I probably just skimmed over.
The sex was boring, though. I'd find myself skimming past the sex every time =_=
Hmm...I think really started getting interested when Mikel came in with his mind-fucking powers and started tormenting Jace, but at that time (by that time?) I really only wanted to know what happened to Jace.
Still, the book's premise is an interesting idea that hasn't really been explored this way before, so the author gets kudos for originality in the base premise, I guess.
As for Jace...welp. I guess that means on to the second book with me. (It has to be about Jace, right? No way it's not, after such a big lead in...)
An interesting story following Loland, Jamie, and Seth in a D/s(d)/S relationship where they face of against Gods and rogue Keepers. it end in a semi cliffhanger the relationship story of the three is done but their is still the overall series arc of what Death is up to and Jace a friend and fellow Keeper is still missing because he got Jamie away from his half brother Mikel a keeper in death's plan to control the other gods and keepers, sacrificing his chance to escape. I am looking forward to the further adventures in this series.
I really enjoyed this book. It had an interesting world building and while it featured a fated mates plot it did not come even close to my personal hatred of insta-love. I think that the author did a good job of realistically (mostly) of portraying difficulties that come along with being in a threesome but that did not overwhelm the plot of the book. 4 stars.
This story was kind of all over the place. In reality, there was probably way too much going on to be contained in one book and I can totally understand how some folks are going to be bothered by that as well as the fact that believability might be tested just a bit. Fortunately for me, I got hooked early on (like really hooked) and I was able to overlook some of the craziness to see what was going to happen. In fact, once I finished this book, I couldn’t stand the thought of a waiting period to start the next one, so I jumped right in. If you are the type that can just go with the flow and don’t get hung up on fiction following too closely to real life, then you might just enjoy this one as much as I did.
This book was recommended to me by an author who had read it and loved it. So of course I had to get my copy!
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I started reading the book because, even though I had no expectations, I still knew that it was a paranormal with BDSM aspects and for me, I don’t usually enjoy those books.
I did love the characters that Ms. McCoy created – it was so easy to connect with Jamie, Loland, and Seth. Each of them had their own separate personalities to the point where you could tell who was talking by just the way they were speaking. When it came to Jamie’s character, Ms. McCoy did a great job at his panic attacks and his fears because it was so lifelike, it made me want to wrap him up and keep him safe from everyone. Loland was a strong man, and you could tell that he was willing to do anything to keep Jamie happy. Seth was just an overall strong man who, while confused at the beginning, was able to step up to the plate and show what he was willing to do for Jamie and Loland.
While this book may seem like it’s about the sexual relationship between the three men, it’s not. Don’t get me wrong, there is still those parts in the book, but that wasn’t the main focus of the story. I loved how I was able to get invested into the story and I just wanted to read more.
Now, with that in mind, the reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the last third of the book was very busy and slightly confusing to me personally. I had to go back and re-read a few times just so that I was caught up completely with what was going on.
But, even with saying that, I can’t wait to start reading the other books in the series!

I really want to like this.... really, really, want to..... It started so well, likable, diverse characters, good guys/bad guys, Gods, Keepers, all sorts of paranormal things.... YES! My kind of book!! It brought to mind another of my favorite series.... I thought for sure I had another source to feed my addiction.
Sadly, it was not to be. There was way too much telling instead of showing on top of the major focus being lost to the sex and a time jump that really shouldn't have happened when it did/if at all. Some BDSM no-nos. And I'm sorry but an author cannot give me such an emotionally fragile man who has suffered through the things that we are told about then have me believe this stuff.
Emma Sea summed it up so well in her review that I'll just be lazy this time and say that I agree with most of what she wrote.
Except I will say that it's my hope that Ms. McCoy will learn from readers constructive criticism, research PTSD and other things some, hire a good editor, get a few experienced beta readers and use all that knowledge to better this (a 2nd edition is always welcome) and future books in the series. Because....I really want to like this.... really, really, want to!! Great premise, great characters,etc.etc. I still have hope that it can become all I'd hoped it would be.
This was a great start for a new series! Nikki McCoy has a writing style that reads very nice. The story wasn't too fast, the relationship had the time to develop and the trouble wasn't solved in a few pages. There were a lot of great characters that all have their own interesting personalities. It was great to get to know a new world with gods and keepers. I did feel that sometimes as a reader I got a little bit to little information about the world, but it will be a series so that will probably change the more books you read. I only had a little problem with the positive ending considering there were some problems that, in my opinion, wouldn't lead to such a happy ending. But that is how I personally felt about that and I hope the author will solve those problems in the next part of this series!
This was an OK read for me. I enjoyed the world and its characters, but some of the plot seemed thrown together and not very well-thought out, almost like paragraphs were taken out to make shorten the length of the book. There were to many things hinted at that I felt should have been explained to give not only the plot but the characters more depth and to give the reader a better understanding of this universe and its people.
A interesting world of Keepers and Gods. I enjoyed the story. I didn't connect like I thought I would. I think Jamie's turn around wasn't well played out. Would have liked a little more interaction with just the main characters. I do think it was a good start to a series I'm definitely interested in continuing.
