All aspiring novelist Honor has ever wanted is to be successful. She thinks it's the only way she can impress the father who abandoned her, the boyfriend who gave up on her, and the nagging voice in her head that tells her she's not good enough. She wants to find a story that will change her life.
HE'S SEARCHING FOR LOVE
When she's invited to spend a summer abroad in The Hamptons, Honor realises it could be the dream setting for a book. And a chance encounter in real life provides her with the perfect material for her leading man. But blurring fact and fiction is a dangerous game...

Over the last 4 years since I read my first Isabelle Broom book (One Thousand Stars and You, if you’re curious), I have fell maniacally and hopelessly in love with her books. She is by far my favourite romance author and The Beach Holiday has topped the list as her best so far. Each year I look forward to her new release and each year they get better and better. This book was funny, flirty and emotional. I giggled over silly little things like inside jokes between characters, accidental knees touching when sitting side by side and Tom Hanks references. Isabelle Broom, you have my heart, never stop writing!
I love an Isabelle Broom book and this one is another great holiday read. Life in The Hamptons sounded perfect for the summer and just what Honor needed to work through the questions in her life. She was an interesting character- full of self doubt she hid behind the jokes, so it was lovely to see her loved for herself and blossom into the confident person she deserved to be.
Wow this truly was a wonderful read, the perfect book to read on your holidays this year.
I immediately felt transported to the Hamptons with Honor riding along on the bicycle with a little cute basket, the big fab houses, I loved everything about this book including Honors rubbish jokes.
A fabulous story of how opposites attract!
If you need a perfect escapism read then this is for you!
A pleasure to read and review thank you for giving me the opportunity.
Another excellent book by one of my go to authors. Great locations and characters - loved how writing books featured heavily in the story. Would love to see this as a film too
This is my first novel by Isabelle Broom set in the beautiful and glamorous Hamptons. This is a heart-warming romance full of chemistry and a bit of humour. This is the perfect cosy romance to devour in the summer with two great leads and a fun plot.
"The Beach Holiday" is another engrossing read from Isabelle Broom and is set in the Hamptons on Long Island, New York. The story revolves around fame, both its advantages and constraints. Honor is the love child of a famous novelist (Jeffrey) and spends time with him every summer in the USA. She is striving to attain her ambition of becoming a published author in her own right, but seems to have writer's block. When the opportunity arises to spend the summer in the Hamptons with Jeff and his mentee Talullah, she jumps at the chance.
Cellan is a well known English actor based in the States who has been struggling with the pressures of fame, and has recently been in rehab for a drink problem. He is surrounded by a team of people who don't necessarily seem to have his best interests at heart.
This is a great summer read, and highly recommended.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.
Honor is spending a couple of weeks with her father.
The Beach Holiday is everything a reader wants in a transporting, escapist and romantic read. I so enjoyed heading to The Hamptons with Honor, although there were times when I rather wished this was a murder story with me as the murderer getting my hands on Honor’s father…
Indeed, I loathed JB and whilst Honor may come to understand him better and even forgive him for his actions, I won’t. I think it says something about the effective (and affecting) quality of Isabelle Broom’s writing that I had such a deep seated response!
Desperate for the approbation of her father JB, Honor is a seemingly straightforward character, but scratch below the surface and there is insecurity, a quick wit that provides much humour in the narrative, talent, loyalty and the capacity to feel deeply. I loved the way Isabelle Broom built the layers here, especially as she illustrates how little we truly know what others are thinking and feeling. We construct our own public narratives whether we are as ordinary as Honor or as glamorous as Cellan. There’s real insight and sensitivity in The Beach Holiday.
Cellan is a cracking hero because he isn’t simply mean and moody as so many romantic heroes are. Instead he’s multi-faceted, relatively well-balanced with a few demons of his own. His strand of the story felt all the more poignant and realistic given that there was a celebrity facing challenging trial by media as I read. The impact of media, of betrayal and of the way we all ‘own’ famous people is woven into The Beach Holiday in a way that entertains but feels poignant, relevant and modern too.
Exploring fame and the pressures and consequences that brings, The Beach Holiday affords a glimpse into a life of glamour that makes it perfect summer reading because the reader is treated to a world they are unlikely to encounter in real life. However, with books and writing as another pivotal story arc, reading The Beach Holiday also feels familiar and just like coming home too. I loved these elements.
The build up of sexual and romantic tension between Honor and Cellan is wonderful. It’s natural, and sizzles with expectation and anticipation whilst providing the catalyst for some really funny moments too. I laughed aloud on several occasions.
I found the plot fast paced and engaging, but as Honor feels about her own writing, it was getting to know and understand the people in The Beach Holiday that really gripped me. As they work through themes of family, trust, self-respect and confidence I felt there was succour as well as entertainment to be had.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Beach Holiday. It is just the story to escape into and see how the other half lives. It might just make you grateful for what you have rather than what you think you want, but you’ll need to read it to find out and it’s such a smashing book that I recommend you do!
I love Isabelle’s books! Honor & Cellans story was just perfect, great mix of character & loved the location summery vibes of The Hamptons - I am summer ready! 🤩📖
I really enjoyed the story. The characters were really well written and you felt like you could know them, the plot worked and the whole thing together kept you hooked in.
I really enjoyed this lovely summer read which is mainly set in The Hamptons USA. The story begins when Honor leaves her flat in Cambridge for her annual visit to her Father who lives in New York. Upon arrival, she discovers he has rented a house in The Hamptons so they decamp there. Honor hopes that the gorgeous beach location will give her the inspiration to write a novel that will be published just as her famous author Father has accomplished many times. When Honor literally collides with Cellan she does not recognise him as a famous movie star, but a spark is definitely lit between them but keeping their relationship from the media proves impossible with difficult consequences and hurdles to overcome. Honor and her Father have a rather strained relationship as he and her Mum are separated and Honor has always felt like a disappointment to him. I was hopeful throughout that they would resolve their problems and misunderstandings to unite as a Father and Daughter relationship should be, and at times this did happen but I felt Honor’s desperation to achieve this. My thanks to Net Galley and publishers Hodder & Stoughton for the ARC of this delightful novel.
I like Isabelle Broom.. I found this book hard to get into but you need to keep reading it gets better and better. Set in America. A daughter visits her famous father who is a writer and she just wants his approval on her writing. He has rented a house in The Hamptons and the story goes from there. Makes you realise being famous is not as you imagine . There are some funny bits . The main character Honor was interesting and she got her happy ever after.
The Beach Holiday is the latest novel from Isabelle Broom. This time we’re whisked away to the glamorous Hamptons with aspiring novelist Honor. After her father abandoned her and her boyfriend gave up on her, she feels she’s not good enough. She needs a new firm of inspiration and a trip to the Hamptons seems to be just what the doctor ordered as she begins yet another novel. A dream setting for her book and a chance encounter with a potential leading man could be just the inspiration she needs, as long as fact and fiction don’t cross over. I really enjoyed this book. It’s heartwarming and entertaining and I can definitely recommend it. I would rate this book 4.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Hodder & Stoughton and the author for the chance to review.
“Every good story needs a strong opening. Mine was the letter box.” From this strong opening, which made me smile, I enjoyed every moment of the time which I spent in the Hamptons with Honor and Cellan. I think that Honor and I would be good friends. She hates housework, would rather read instead. That sounds very reasonable to me! Would-be novelist Honor spends some time each year with her father usually in New York. They’ve always had quite a difficult relationship and he has been largely absent from her life. I have to say that he didn’t endear himself to me throughout the book. This summer, he invites her to join him at a beach house in the Hamptons, playground for the rich and famous. When Honor literally bumps into film star Cellan in the street, they soon form a bond despite moving in quite different worlds. Much of the conversation and quips between them made me smile a lot.
The problem with reading an Isabelle Broom book is that I always want to go to where she has set the book! Her books really make for escapist reading and I enjoy travel vicariously with her characters. The Hamptons with its huge beachfront villas and gorgeous beaches sounded so idyllic. A real glimpse into how the other half live!
If there’s one thing this book has made me certain of is that there’s no way I’d want to be famous with all the attention and lack of privacy that comes with it. And I certainly wouldn’t want to be dating a celebrity and under the scrutiny not just of the mainstream media but every Tom, Dick and Harry on social media. Poor Honor! When she met Cellan and their friendship began to grow, she had no real idea what she was letting herself in for. Even though she knew herself that who they were when they were just together themselves was different from the public persona – he an Oscar winning film star, she the daughter of a best selling author – it must have been such a shock to see how a relationship in the public eye would play out and how it had to be managed by publicists who didn’t always necessarily have their clients best interests at heart.
The Beach Holiday was just so easy to read, uplifting and such good fun! What more could you want from a beach read? Another fabulously entertaining read from Isabelle Broom. I can’t wait to see where she takes us next!
If you've been following my reviews for a while you'll know that I can't resist a book set in the Hamptons. A mis-spent youth watching every episode of Revenge has left me with a yearning to discover the sand dunes of the wealthy New Yorkers for myself. So, when I realised that Isabelle Broom's new book was set here I was in seventh heaven!
Honor lives in Cambridge, England. She loves her job in the student liaison offices of the university and lives in the flat above her Mum's bookshop. It is a nice life but Honor really wants to become an author. Like her Dad. She is the product of an ill fated romance and Honor didn't meet her Dad until she was eight. The world famous thriller writer lives in a fabulous apartment in New York and hosts his daughter for an awkward couple of weeks every summer.
When she arrives in New York for this year's visit she is thrilled to discover that they are going to spend the summer in the Hamptons. Hopefully it will be the inspiration that she needs to finally get that novel down on paper. Surely it is the perfect location to get away from it all and a great setting for the book. A chance meeting hands her the perfect leading man on a plate but she soon discovers how hard it can be to blur the lines between fact and fiction.
You know it's time for the summer holidays when the new Isabelle Broom arrives. She has the most immersive writing style that truly makes you feel like you are there in the story with them. You can feel the warmth of the sun on your face and the gritty sand between your toes. The characters all feel like friends that you want to get to know a little better. These books are the perfect blend of travel guide and engaging contemporary fiction with a healthy dose of romance!
Supplied by Hodder & Stoughton and Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
I thought The Beach Holiday was a different style of story to those I’ve read before from Isabelle Broome. For me, the setting didn’t play as big a part – it was all emotion, which I loved!
I couldn’t warm to Honor’s dad, putting himself centre stage more than once. I don’t care about his reasons and motivations. You’d still want to do your best. And it’s no good saying what you did you thought was for the best – the best for him maybe. Now I’ve got that out of the way …
Honor is such a fab character. She’s totally relatable and has a brilliant sense of humour. Through most of the story she’s living under her father’s shadow and trying to get his approval.
Talullah was an enigma. Being mentored by Honor’s dad’s, she’s in New York when Honor arrives and is the one who suggests that Honor goes to the Hamptons with them. I couldn’t figure out where she fit in and had my suspicions. Even with her backstory, I’m still not sure whether I like her very much.
OMG the love story is AMAZING.
After meeting Cellan, Honor experiences a different world. Protective of his private life, he finds it hard to trust others but lets his guard down with Honor. It was awesome to see her start to believe in herself.
I enjoyed the banter between them and loved how their relationship developed. Not so enamoured of the team around him though! There are some passionate scenes between them that felt authentic and brought a lot of heat to the story. With the interference from others, I wasn’t sure how it was going to work out.
I’ve felt betrayed and angry as well as full of love and happiness. Such a mixture of feelings 🙂
The Beach Holiday isn’t my favourite Isabelle Broom story but it is a fabulous love story. Definitely one to read this summer.
My Thanks to Netgalley and publishers Hodder and Stoughton for an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. I requested this because Isabelle Broom has long been one of my favourite authors of this genre and I have read all her novels. I was disappointed with the previous book and I’m afraid, even more so with this one, which is a pity since I was looking forward to it. Girl meets boy in a beautiful, famous setting. There really is little more to it than that. It’s very obvious that the author has been there and her descriptions of the place are realistic and occasionally beautiful, but as for the rest, it frequently drops to the banal and unbelievable. There are two main characters and a small cast of cardboard cutouts in the background. Topics such as celebrity status, the power of the press, and social media are covered. I’m afraid that I don’t care.
Written in the first person, it’s about emotions rather than actions and plot. The whole book is about the growing affair between the two main characters and the influence of outside forces and characters on that affair. Whilst this is one hundred percent escapist, there still have to be some elements one can believe in, but they were lacking here. The tale is reminiscent of stories in Women’s Own magazine that I used to read in my Mother’s copy as a very early teenager but with more explicit sex nearly sixty years on. Some may enjoy this, but I’m sorry, not for me.
Sometimes you just need an easy read - a well written bit of escapism to lose yourself in.
Isabelle Broom is definitely one of my authors for such a read and she does not disappoint with The Beach House.
When aspiring author Honor literally bumps into Oscar winning actor Cellan while visiting her father in the Hamptons there are immediate sparks. Writing an ‘average’ person meets Hollywood star story is pretty tricky to get right and feel realistic but the author certainly pulled it off for me.
The dialogue between them and the doubts they have about themselves and their relationship comes across as genuine and relatable while capturing that sizzling, simmering tension of early attraction perfectly.
The setting of The Hamptons is perfect and the descriptions so vivid you can almost feel the sand between your toes. Have to admit to a good half hour spent googling holidays there and dreaming….maybe one day!
On the flip side of the Hollywood romance in the glamorous Hamptons, the book also touches on the price of fame and the sheer awful cesspit that social media can be.
All in all though this is the perfect read for those lazy Summer days whether they be in the garden, on the beach or maybe even in the Hamptons.
Huge thanks to Hodder and Alainna Georgiou for my copy
Every year Honor spends a holiday with her Dad Staying in New York shouldn't be too bad! However, he's a top selling author and busy, too, So together they don't have much to do.
This year is different, there's someone else there And a home in The Hamptons they're going to share. Exploring Honor didn't expect to be knocked down Or for the man who did it to be well renown!
A new friend, a new team, a new chance, Their banter could be the start of romance. Whatever it proves inspirational, too, And gets Honor writing going anew.
Is this the time for her confidence and writing to flow? Keeping a diary will help her, too, you know. But there's also betrayal and mischief in store That'll test any chance for love they might explore.
A story of families, friendship and trust Where being true to yourself is a definite must. Learning to do the best for yourself and not others Is something that more than one discovers.
This contemporary romance involves celebrities who Find fame is not always a dream come true. For my complementary copy, I say thank you, As I share with you this, my honest review.
I am really starting to love this genre of books, normally an avid reader of thrillers/mysteries this genre feels light and refreshing.
This is my firsts novel by Isabelle Broom and I will be picking up more of her previous novels.
The Beach Holiday is set in the most beautiful place - The Hamptons. We meet main character Honour, who is just a fabulous character and really engaged me. She is a wannabe writer and she snaps up the chance of spending the summer at The Hamptons.
There she holidays with her very unlikeable father, she has always had an unusual relationship with her dad. Whilst on holiday she decides that The Hamptons would make a great backdrop for a novel and she is inspired to do so, along come Cellan and the scene is set for her write a some sort of romance novel.
I loved the characters in this novel and I would love to read about Honour again if the writer decides to write about her again. A perfect beach read, fantastic story line and I loved it.
Thanks to Isabelle Broom, Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me a copy of this lovely novel.
I've enjoyed a couple of novels by the author and was drawn to this by the Hamptons setting. Honor is an aspiring novelist with a challenging relationship with her largely absent father. When she gets the opportunity to spend a summer in the Hamptons with him she feels this is a chance to be inspired and finally write her novel. I absolutely loved the Hamptons setting and the author's real strength is evoking this sense of place. I felt that I was there with the characters and felt bereft when I finished the novel. I was less drawn to the characters of Honor and Cellan and much of their story and the characterisations did not quite ring true for me. However, this was still an enjoyable and escapist read. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC. 3.5 stars
Honor’s ambition is to be a writer, a successful writer. Her father is a mega successful author and she visits him in the New York, when he decides to spend some time in the Hamptons.
Honor wanting to spend time with her father, to get some validation on her writing, she is sadly pretty much left to entertain herself. Whilst out one day, Cellan crashes into her whilst she is riding a bike whilst rushing out of a store, little does she know that he is a major movie star….
This lovely romance looks at friendships and poses the question on how do you maintain a relationship with a celebrity, about the intrusion of the press and social media, but also about self confidence, having faith in yourself.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
This was a fabulous escapist read set in the glamorous Hamptons. Honor visits the father who has little to do with her every year in the hope she’ll one day make him proud. He’s a highly successful author and she’s eager to get published herself but he’s very derogatory about her writing style and genre of romance. When she unexpectedly befriends a famous actor she finds herself winning her fathers rare approval but she’s no idea at what cost.
This had a brilliant character in down to earth but incredibly insecure Honor along with a mix of characters that I loved and others I could truly dislike. The setting was gorgeous and the unlikely plot was the epitome of romance books and why they deserve far more credit than they get. Fabulously written this is a fantastic summer read as you would expect from Isabelle Broom. 9/10
A very easy, enjoyable, escapist summer read. Honor has a strained relationship with her dad - she longs to be a writer and her dad is a successful author and she always feels a disappointment to him - “none of my father’s novels ever had a sales trajectory line that did not go straight up” Honor decides enter a writing competition and visits her dad in America for some advice. She joins him on a beach holiday in the exclusive Hamptons and bumps into Oscar winning British movie star, Cellan. She has no idea how famous he is and a developing holiday romance starts. Both help each other to achieve their dreams and see their self-worth. Loved the insight into writing and how to get published and the hindrances of fame and fortune Thanks @isabellebroom @hodderbooks & @netgalley for the eARC
I was delighted to be chosen to play a part in the blog tour for this lovely book. I had a planned break to Menorca and took it along as a holiday read 🏝️
Honor is desperate to be a successful writer but is unwilling to ask the multi published, author father who abandoned her as a child for his help.
Then Honor gets an invitation from her dad to spend summer at the Hamptons.
Cellen is an award winning actor struggling to life the life of a celebrity who also holes up away from the city.
Their paths cross and this gives Honor the inspiration she’s been seeking for her novel.
This was the PERFECT holiday read and I binge read it in a day in the sun.
An easy to read, fun romance that me googling properties in the Hamptons (if only I had a spare few million💰)
Thanks to Isabelle Broom Alainna Hadjigeorgiou and Hodder books for this opportunity and my gifted copy
I thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the Hamptons with Honor, the hot guy she meets on her first day, and her father who she has a strained relationship with.
Honor just wants to make her successful novelist father proud, and she wants to be a writer herself, if only she could come up with a strong idea.
But its the time she spends with the Tom Hanks lookalike that really had my interest.
I loved the storyline, and all the twists it takes. Yes some I could see coming but the journey was so much fun it wasn't a problem.
I was thoroughly entertained by this enjoyable story that really was a perfect beach or pool read.
Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Ive read several Isabelle Broom books but unfortunately this one is way down my list. Its an easy to read beach read, but so predictable and cheesy, I've maybe just read too many books like this now. I liked the idea of the story, Honor, going to the Hamptons to find inspiration to write a book for a writing competition, however I absolutely detested her Dad, he was portrayed as such a horrid man, and how she could have a happy every after ending with him after everything that happened in the book and in fact from when she first met him was just not a believable storyline. The constant one-liners and jokes between the 2 main characters were tiring and not very funny and the very short side story when Honor goes to visit Tallulah just seemed pointless. It wasn't an unpleasant read, it just didn't grab me in any way.
This was a wonderful book - full of disappointment and expectations.
The initial premise that we know is that Honor lives in Cambridge, and discovers a competition to become a published author in a magazine.
This leads to her going to New York to visit her famous author father and try and live up to his expectations. Her father ends up taking her to the Hamptons as a writing trip for him and she ends up tagging along.
There is a series of events that happen due to Honor being a little clumsy, and a few incidents that she thinks is letting herself down, and shows she is a bit of a fool.
On the flipside, meeting a handsome stranger, who isn't all that he seems at the start, brings Honor out of her shell and shows that the expectations she is trying to live up to, she is not what she thinks, in her work or herself.
This is a great story of finding your real identity and becoming all you can be, and way more than you believe you can.
