Do I regret just diving into book 8 without going through 1-7? Nope, not one bit.

Heart of Atlantis was one of those books that I definitely chose to listen to for a challenge. It was a short audio and it helped me fill a task. Fortunately for me, it was an enjoyable audio. Even if I kept zoning in and out due to my Mucinex (#flu).

In it, you will meet Alaric, Jack, and Quinn. Ya know how I hate love triangles? Still do. Jack was so full of himself and for some reason thought that Quinn should just be his and his alone. Well okay, it's time to find some realistic goals buddy. Mostly because I was allllll about Alaric and Quinn. They are just so cute and I was loving the whole alpha side on Alaric.

Quinn was an okay character for me. She didn't annoy me so much.. but she also didn't wow me. She sometimes seemed like a badass in her own way but other than that she was just an okay character. I liked her enough - she just wasn't my absolute favorite MC.

Overall, I may or may not dive into books 1-7 lol

Genelde en çok beklenen karakterler hayal kırıklığı olur ama Alaric'in hikayesinde yaşamadım bunu. Serinin diğer kitapları ile aynı çizgide ve düzeydeydi 😆

Well that was a great ride! I can see why Day has a legion of fans for the Warriors of Poseidon series.

And for those who say that Quinn is annoying and unlikable? I'm going to say, quite horribly I'm afraid - suck it up! Personally, I love a heroine that is tough, sarcastic and will do anything she needs to do in order to survive (while secretly dying inside). We need them to counter the ultra-sweet, innocent heroines who also have their place.

So Quinn, honey? *mwah* Love you almost as much as Evy *ducks to avoid being pummeled by Evangeline*

Now to do justice to all these characters who've been waiting a long time for this wrap-up...and for the fans who have patiently waited for this particular love story. I'll do my very best for y'all...

Poseidon’s High Priest finally has his book! Readers have been interested in Alaric since he was introduced to the books early in the series. As a man who is devoted and stays true to his words, his loyalty is earned, not freely given. But the spunky rebel leader named Quinn shows just how worthy she is of his love through her actions and her words.

When Jack, a shifter who is also Quinn’s best friend is badly injured, Quinn asks Alaric to help him before his lifeforce is fully drained. Alaric knows he will do anything for Quinn, but he has always harbored some hostility and jealously towards Jack because of his closeness with Quinn. What will happen when he heals Jack? Will he lose the one woman he has loved to him?

HEART OF ATLANTIS brings readers back into a world that is brimming with mythology and history. Vast in its intensely complicated worldbuilding, Day has already created and cemented this unique world throughout the series and in this book, she really plays around with it. Readers are thrust into exotic locales filled with danger and intrigue. This book felt larger than life and I love that that sense of epic grandness was played up.

In terms of the romance, I was a little conflicted. Many readers will whoop with joy when they find out that Quinn and Alaric do end up together because Day has so expertly teased us with them in the past. However, I do think the author took those feelings of excitement for granted a little bit. Most of the book centers on the fact that Alaric has a vow of celibacy. If he gives in, there is a great possibility that he could lose his magic. As the main conflict in the relationship, I wished that Day had really spent more time on the romance and building that relationship more, rather than making it about whether they will or will not do it to risk his loss of powers.

I liked that Day played up the importance of Quinn’s relationship with Jack. It just added another layer of the story that fit will with the characters and the storyline. This series has developed well over the course of its run and I think readers will be excited to finally read about Alaric and Quinn. Their story is long due.

When this series came out I can remember how much I loved them. I'd read them as soon and they hit the shelves. I'm not sure what happened with Heart of Atlantis. That's a lie, I knew exactly what happened, I waiting so long for this story and I was worried how it would turn out.

So I did what I do with series ending books, leave them on the shelve and move on. It's crazy I know. But for some reason I usually have to work myself up to them.

As you can see I finally did that with Heart of Atlantis. Part of the reason why is because she has a new series out called Poseidon's Warriors out and next year she has a bunch coming out for it. I don't want to get behind again.

I'm so glad that I read this. From the first page I remembered why I enjoy her books so much. Since this series has started we were taunted with the relationship between Quinn and Alaric, let's not forget about Jack. He too had a stake in what happened between these two.

For Jack he'd like nothing better then for Quinn to love him and only him. Some things aren't meant to be. Even if it shouldn't have worked Alaric and Quinn do.

The ending of this series and their story works perfect with the series. Once I did start the story I wanted, no, needed to know what happens. I love Alaric, he doesn't know it but he's so funny. He's a straight out alpha who wants to wrap Quinn in a blanket and lock her away to keep her safe. He's willing to take out anyone and everyone to do that.

Sigh!

Of course you can't keep a woman like Quinn locked away. She's been so use to doing for herself that it's hard to rely on anyone other then Jack.

If you haven't yet read this series do yourself a favor and get it. Each story is well written and wrapped in mythology. Let's not forget..romance. I'm so happy that I finally broke down and read Heart of Atlantis. Now on to what's next!

It seems like I’ve waited forever for Alaric and Quinn’s story. Every series has a couple who readers want to see get their HEA and who will follow the series to the end to see them get it. Alaric and Quinn are that couple for The Warriors of Poseidon series by Alyssa Day. Heart of Atlantis is the eighth book in a series that saw its’ first book released in 2007. That’s five years I’ve been waiting, so needless to say I had high expectations going into this book.

Quinn is the leader of the rebels, who have fought the vampires and especially Anubisa, the vampire goddess, for years. These rebels have aligned themselves with the Atlantians and Quinn’s sister Riley has mated with the Crown Prince Conlan and will soon be the new Queen. Since the very beginning Quinn and Alaric, the High Priest of Atlantis have been circling each other and their attraction. These two have grown to love each other, but because of Alaric’s vow of celibacy and both of their duties they have always known they cannot be together. Alaric believes that if he chooses love and sex over his commitments as priest he will lose his powers and not be able to aid Atlantis in her battle with her enemies and the introduction to the world when Atlantis finally rises from her watery grave. Over the last several books, the entire cast of characters have been looking for the jewels that make up the trident and give it its’ power. Until the trident is reunited with all the jewels Atlantis cannot rise.

The final stone has been located, but it’s in the hands of a man who is calling himself the rightful king of Atlantis and who has announced the identity of Quinn as the rebel leader to all the world. Now every enemy that Quinn has ever had knows exactly who she is and what she looks like. Alaric has decided that he doesn’t care about anything else but his love and desire for Quinn and will protect her from the world. With the addition of this new foe the stakes are higher as now Atlantis has a finite amount of time before the dome protecting it from the sea collapses and kills every citizen.

I have mixed feelings about this story. While I enjoyed the battle over evil and seeing the ending to the story arc, I don’t think the action scenes or dialogue flowed as well as previous books. Alaric and Quinn travel all over the world, back and forth through portals and are separated and reunited again and again… there is just so much going on. They are fighting enemies on many different fronts, Alaric is using extreme power to stabilize the dome over Atlantis, and all the while they are trying to figure out what to do about their feelings for each other. In the midst of this all the characters we’ve known and loved make reappearances to help in the epic battle at the conclusion of the story. I did love seeing everyone gathered together again and was glad Ms. Day brought them back so they get the chance to finally defeat their enemies. I wish we could have had more resolution with Jack, at the end he just kind of walks off and I wonder if we will see him again in another series. I hope so.

Alaric and Quinn finally get together, FINALLY, but their sex scenes just didn’t thrill me like I wanted them to. I’ve been waiting for epic, swoon worthy love scenes and just don’t feel like I got them. Maybe my expectations were too high going in, but I needed this love story to be on a grand scale because these two characters are bold, gutsy and bigger than life. Alaric has always been a pretty intense and serious character so I really didn’t get the humor he started showing all of a sudden. When he and Quinn become soul melded it’s like his personality changed, it was weird for me.

I did enjoy this story, just not as much as I expected I would, but I’m glad I stuck with this series to the end. Final Grade: C+

Favorite Quote:

”You can’t protect me from the monsters, Alaric,” she said quietly.

His laughter was dark and somehow terrifying, even to Quinn, who lived her life pretending to fear nothing.

“Protect you? I would drown the entire world for you, and laugh as every single living being on it died. I’m the monster, Quinn. Better you find a way to protect yourself from me, because I am the high priest of blood and battle, and the lord of death and destruction. I will never, ever let you go.”

Read my review on Got Ficton? book blog

This is a bittersweet book for me, and it’s really hard to review. Alyssa Day’s Warriors of Poseidon series is one of my very first PNR series, one of my all-time favorites, and the only series I’ve kept up with since I started reading like I do now.

The end of a series is so sad, but so much was happy about this one. The last couple chapters were fantastic.

I’ll admit I actually have never liked Quinn. I’ve never found her someone I wanted to know more about since I didn’t like her. But then I read her story, and realized why I didn’t like her. Her personality seemed tough and fairly rude, but she sort of reminds me of Princess Leia from Star Wars. She’s a rebel leader, she’s always got a plan and a back-up plan, and she’s pretty bad ass. I was able to appreciate how she felt about herself a bit more, and I was able to understand her character better. It turns out I actually kinda like Quinn.

Alaric has always been a pretty scary dude, but in a hot way. This book just cemented how crazy cool his character is. I don’t think I was expecting to like the two of them as a couple as much as I did, but wow! They really work well together.

We can’t talk about this book without talking about Jack. I mean, it’s Jack and Alaric on the cover, not Alaric and Quinn, did you notice that? Jack has been Quinn’s best friend and partner for years. They have been through so much, and you can’t just throw away that kind of connection because you meet someone new. In the last book, Jack was injured and shifted to his tiger form to survive, but survival wasn’t in the cards. . .until Quinn begged Alaric to heal him. But Alaric was only able to heal part of Jack—the tiger part. So when this book starts, Jack is still tiger, and shows no signs of changing back to his human self. Alaric has vowed to help him because he matters to Quinn, therefore he matters to Alaric.

Alaric and Quinn finally get to spend a lot of time alone together, which is what we’ve all been waiting for! But Quinn tends to stick to her rebel leader personality and go off half-cocked. I like how she didn’t change who she was, but I sometimes wanted to shake her and remind her that it’s okay to think things through, especially when there’s a new threat, and an old enemy both in the picture. But Alaric and Quinn together was worth the wait. So many years, the two were apart, and when they are together, they’ll find out they’re stronger, and they can be so much more than they can apart.

This installment of The Warriors of Poseidon was satisfying and intense with a lovely end to the series, however, this isn’t the end of Jack.

It is always a bittersweet moment when an author ends a series, add that to the fact that you have known that the series was going to end for a year.. a year!! And patiently, ok not so patiently, waited for it's release. Knowing that you will say goodbye to some favorite characters.. so very excited and yet worried. Worried that the author would blow it, would miss that climactic moment.. that the book wouldn't live up to the hype.. With her series ending book, Heart of Atlantis, Alyssa Day reaches in and grabs all of those emotions and wrings us out!

We all fell head long in love with the Warriors in their very first book.. Conlan and Ven... Justice (ooooo Justice), Brennan, Alexios, Bastian, Denal and yes even Christophe.. what incredible warriors they are.. add in a sexy shapeshifter or two, an honest Vampire fighting for good and you have a group of Alpha males like never before.. But the entire time we were falling for these characters, in the back of our minds, we were thinking.. what about Alaric? We all knew he was the darkest, the deepest, the most powerful, the most compelling character of them all and in true Alaric fashion he came out swinging.. giving us way more than we could possibly imagine!

Alaric, High Priest of Poseidon, has spent 500 years serving his god. Accepting all the responsibilities and requirements, even accepting the fact that as High Priest he must take a vow of celibacy or he would loose his power.. He held strong when he was called the bogeyman of Atlantis.. the most feared man of Atlantis.. He served his High Prince, His friend as best he could.. never swerving, never faltering.. until one day a bedraggled human female rocked his world.. And yet even then he put duty, honor, service, country first.. and then he snapped....

Quinn Dawson, leader of the rebel forces.. one woman who just about everyone wanted to kill.. The protector of the human race.. the one woman wrecking crew, knew she would probably die trying to save humanity. Was even ready for it until her sister met this guy..

Alaric and Quinn do not disappoint.. they sizzle and snap, their story has the power only such incredible characters could carry off and the promise has been fulfilled. They ride the eye of the hurricane, holding electricity in their hands. These two valiant hearts still have a long way to go. Even once Alaric has declared never to leave Quinn again (as he did in the end of Vampire in Atlantis) even when he tries to denounce his god, his people, his position.. in the end he knows that the only way to be truly his own man and to have a life with Quinn is to leave the eye and enter the storm.

There is so much going on in this book.. secrets and surprises. Alyssa has given us a true gift.. every time I decided that I had it figured out, she would toss in a new loop.. and oh the ride was wonderful. Yes, Yes, I know.. I am gushing.. but I seriously LOVED this book.. I am already irked at Amazon and Goodreads because they don't have a 6th star.. shoot they need a 10th!! This story was heartbreaking, it was enchanting, it was poignant and yes it was oh so wonderful. And Alyssa does it all without forgetting her trademark humor.. In the darkest moments of despair a light would come on when a simple quirky response would pop out.. Smart Ass Quinn.. but the best is when Alaric starts spouting his witty repartees or better yet when Con tries using current slang, talk about hit or miss.

For all you Warrior fans.. If you haven't read this book yet.. you seriously need to. If this is your first book in the series, you can still read it.. as is.. it stands alone beautifully BUT.. I suggest that you read the series because while it can stand alone, it stands ever so much better when added to the entire package. Just like Alaric.

Ride the wave of Atlantis's Heart..

Was this suppose to be the last book in the series? I really hope not. What about Denial? He never got his own book, or Jack come on!! Maybe a spin off? The ending seemed like maybe there could be one about the Atlantis children.Overall I was pretty good. I wasn't too disappointed with how things went down with Aleric and Quinn. In fact there were many times that had me on the edge of my seat.Aleric did go from brooding and scary to making jokes and almost being carefree. But then when he was like that it was mostly with Quinn. Man I just loved when he growled and became fiercely protective. Yum!

Favorite Quote: “Remember what I said, Quinn. I will kill them all. “

Alaric, Poseidon’s dark and seductive High Priest, has sacrificed everything to serve Poseidon and Atlantis and to ensure Atlantis rises as the prophecy has proclaimed. He knows that this is why he can never give in to the turbulent passion he feels for rebel leader, Quinn. When her best friend and second in command, Jack, is fatally wounded in battle, Alaric throws caution to the wind and makes Quinn a promise. He will see that Jack lives, no matter the cost to him or his heart.

Readers of this series have waited a LIFETIME for this final installment of Alyssa Day’s seductive, action packed, thrilling Warriors of Poseidon series. Heart Of Atlantis gives us what we have all wanted since book one-Alaric and Quinn’s story. Alaric and Quinn have danced upon the sharp knife edge of desire since their first meeting. Both tied by the bonds of their loyalty and duties, they know that the best thing for them both (and the world) is to deny what they want most-each other. When the Poseidon’s Pride is stolen and attempts are made to use it, causing devastating natural catastrophes, Alaric and Quinn will have to once again put their chemistry on hold and save world. However, this time around, Alaric’s and Quinn’s passion may be the only thing that saves them all, if they are brave enough accept it.

This series is a well-plotted paranormal romance with strong storylines and dynamic, personable characters who have more than held their own throughout this exciting journey. Hearts Of Atlantis is filled with taut suspense, delicious betrayal, and dangerous antagonists. Two of the series strongest characters drive this story and we are swept away in an emotional battle for control of Atlantis and the world. Ms. Day takes the legends of Atlantis and mixes it with new lore to produce a stunning fantasy world that first starts in Atlantis Rising and continues its dark and dangerous journey to this final installment. Instead of being overburdened by overwrought interpretation and world building at the sacrifice of story, or being heavy on story but leaving the world largely undefined, Hearts Of Atlantis brings the ongoing arc to a sharp pinnacle, leaving us a wide view of the yawning chasm before pushing us in head first. It has all the right notes and carries us roaring to the very end. The world building is a perfect blend of seductive romance, nonstop action, realistic main characters, secondary characters, and intriguing betrayal. Well thought out and fast paced, it offers readers a satisfying conclusion to the arc for the main characters by resolving two very important conflicts-one that threatens the lives of Alaric and Quinn and one that threatens their hearts.

I have loved Quinn from our first meeting. Leader of the North American Rebel Alliance and Riley’s and Erin’s sister, she has suffered greatly through life; yet she manages to remain strong and never appears a victim. Though she only popped in and out of each installment as needed, she maintained a viable presence that remained long after her scenes were done. Her clever mind and even more clever wit kept us entertained as she and Alaric traded quips and barbs; hiding behind sarcasm as she tries to keep her feelings hidden. Her feelings for him scare her. She has lost so much in her life; she doesn’t trust the good to stick around.

We witness a different side of Alaric in this story. Throughout the series, he has been steadily growing colder and harsher. Hard decisions made towards those he had come to care about, has left him empty. Here, we learn his back story and the real reasons he has denied his feelings for Quinn. We begin to see a different side to him as he and Quinn spend more time together. Playful, funny, and happy.

“You are so frustrating,” she shouted at him, kicking more water on him. “Why couldn’t you find some other tough rebel chick to drive out of her mind? Why did it have to be me?”
He shoved his dripping wet hair out of his face and, relief finally overwhelmed him, grinned up at her. “World bending kisses,” he smugly reminded her.

The chemistry between Alaric and Quinn has been apparent from the beginning; a slow burning fire that is becoming an unstoppable inferno. It is a physical entity that is felt with every word, glance, and scene we get from them. I found myself completely engrossed in their story. The sexual tension is FINALLY addressed in some wonderfully explict steamy smexy scenes that had me cheering and re reading. When Alaric lets go…Alaric let’s GO! *whew*

“I have decided to spend the rest of my life giving you orgasms in various beautiful settings, all over the world…”
“Mine,“ he said, kissing his way up her body and then lifting her on top of him…MINE!”

An all star cast of characters continues to shine as each plays an important part in the story. Old and new characters blend together as they race towards final battle. Previous storylines are resolved and questions laid to rest. The portal (or glorified elevator) is back and once again provides comic relief.

All in all Hearts In Atlantis was a satisfying read in every way. An exciting ride that brings about a satisfying conclusion to a world that I did not want to end. Fortunately for us, Ms. Day is releasing a new series-The League Of The Black Swan with the first installment-The Cursed-releasing in May 2013. Two notes of contention were Jack’s storyline and the ending. Jack wasn’t as prevalent as I thought he would be in here. He is buried beneath the main conflict and the romantic storyline. I also felt the ending was rushed and it left me with a vague feeling that this may not be the last time we visit this world. Regardless, Day’s Warriors Of Poseidon series is perfect for those lovers of PNR who enjoy strong characters, fantastic world building, and steamy romance.

I do not recommend reading the books in this series as stand alones. Even though each one has a resolvable main conflict, the arc and characters bleed over into each book and you miss much by not starting at the beginning.

What a ride :-)
That was great.
I did feel the last few chapters were a little rushed, and maybe the author would have liked to have slowed down a bit, but publishing had other ideas, I don't know.
But it was an epic ride. And one I have waited for, ever since Alaric and Quinn met. It was well worth the wait.
And for all the warriors to be in This book was a great way to end the series. (yes I know Denal needs his story told)
And the wedding at the end :-) didn't expect it to be THAT grand a scale.
Only trouble I have now ........
Do I start the series again, or dive back into Heart of Atlantis ? Decisions decisions x

Alyssa Day's "Warriors of Poseidon" series concludes with its eighth and final book, 'Heart of Atlantis', which is undoubtedly the most intense of the series. Quinn, the sister of Riley, is the leader of the Resistance, and Alaric, Poseidon's High Priest, has shared a palpable chemistry with her since their first meeting. However, Quinn feels that her soul is stained due to all she has had to do to fight against the villains, and Alaric believes that he cannot break his vow of celibacy to his god. The introduction of a new demon hybrid and the reappearance of Anubis create a tug-of-war situation. With no communication or support from Poseidon, all of it culminates in a thrilling conclusion to an excellent series.

Alaric has been in love with Quinn since the first time he healed her, but as the high priest of Poseidon he has sworn an oath of celibacy. He will lose his magic if he breaks it. Atlantis and the warriors need his magic too much to make him risk it, but he is getting to the point where he no longer cares. He loves Quinn and he wants her.
When Jack almost dies in a brutal fight with vampires and evil shape shifters, something breaks inside Quinn. Serai and Alaric manage to heal his tiger side, but are not sure his human side will ever come back to her. She doesn’t care, she just wants Jack to live. To give them all some time to heal, Alaric takes them to Mount Fiji, where his old mentor has made a new living for himself, and where they will be safe. At least for a little while. They are so tired of all the fighting and the deaths.
Quinn has been just as much in love with Alaric for all this time, as he has been with her. She knows he is just not for her, he belongs to Poseidon and to Atlantis. But this stolen time away together is just what she needs to get her head back on again. She grieves for Jack, who is like the big brother she never had, and tries to make him come back to her, but the tiger doesn’t shift back to the man. Still, he seems to understand everything she tells him.
When Quinn finds out what could happen to Alaric if they make love, she is horrified! They need his magic in this fight, Atlantis needs it. She cannot be so selfish as to take that risk, no matter how much she wants him.
And now there is this new threat, a stranger claiming to be the King of Atlantis, and he has stolen the most powerful jewel from Poseidon’s scepter, which has only recently been found in Greece. They need it to bring Atlantis back to the surface. And he wants Quinn to come to him. Giving the world her name and her face as the leader of the rebels, and ruining her anonymity for ever. What does he want with her? Alaric is furious, and wants to destroy him for putting Quinn in danger like that. And what about his claim to be Atlantean? He is handling the jewel, something no one but Poseidon or his high priest should be able to do. Something is very wrong about his magic.

Poseidon doesn’t answer their calls, the portal is acting strange and abducting people, leaving them stranded in Atlantis, what is Alaric to do? Risking the soul meld with Quinn could amp his power up 10 times, making him the most powerful high priest in history. But for that, he needs to be together with Quinn first! And he will risk everything he has spent centuries fighting for, to get to her and keep her safe. If Quinn dies, everyone on earth will die with her when his rage will make the oceans boil over!

As stated, the book was well worth the wait, and I finished it in record time. I will savour it slowly again in a few days just to make sure I did not miss a fun detail somewhere.
I loved it, finally Quinn and Alaric’s book. Alaric tries to keep Quinn save, but she is not one to run from a fight, she is one to run towards one, to be in the thick of things. She has no magic to fight with, she is an empath, but she knows how to use a gun or a knife or whatever comes in handy. She will stand besides Alaric, never hide behind him.
And of course Alaric loves her for that, although it drives him crazy that she won’t let him protect her. After all those centuries of serving Poseidon and Atlantis, when he never asked for or wanted the position of high priest, he wants one woman for his own, and damn the consequences.

Catching up with all the other warriors and their mates and their lives was great. At the end of the book, some important things have been accomplished, some threads tied off, but the war is not over. And I cannot but have to wait for more in the next book in the spin off series.

If you haven’t yet started reading this series, but you love series about warriors, brotherhood, magic, weapons, evil, and finding love at last, you really should try this series. And now you know it has an end to it as well, so 8 books is not that much to catch up with. Go for it!

My Rating: 3 stars: Liked it, but I had some issues - recommend (B)

*NOTE* This review contains spoilers from the first seven books in this series.

I have been waiting for this story since the very first Warriors of Poseidon book, Atlantis Rising. Ms. Day has been building the case for our heroes, Alaric and Quinn, from the very start. They’ve had a lot to overcome, including the long-held belief that the High Priest of Atlantis must remain celibate, a war between vampires and human kind, and Quinn’s near-death experiences. I mention all of this to you because my expectations ran high going into this story! Not to mention, Heart of Atlantis is the final book in Ms. Day’s series about the hardened warriors of Atlantis. If you are like me, you always hate to see a series you love end, but sometimes, it needs to happen.

I hate to start my reviews on a negative note, but I feel I need to just put it out there... I was disappointed with Heart of Atlantis. The book itself is good; however, the Alaric/Quinn story line just didn’t have the emotional punch I anticipated and hoped for. One of the problems I had is that this book jumps right into the middle of the pre-existing storyline, so much so, that Heart of Atlantis felt like a continuation of Vampire in Atlantis and not it’s own book. There was no “set up,” or “getting to know you” phase at the beginning of the book. And since it’s been 1.5 years since that last story, I had forgotten much of what I read. Maybe if I’d reread Vampire in Atlantis, I’d have enjoyed this one more.

With that on the table, I will say that there were a lot of good parts in Heart of Atlantis. Alaric and Quinn do FINALLY give into their long-burning desires. Although the pair didn’t have the emotional intensity of earlier books, they shared passionate kisses and tender moments. I loved the scene when Alaric tells Quinn that he is the monster she should be afraid of - his confession of his need and desire for her is intense. As the story progresses, they open to each other more and more until they can reach the point to attempt the soul-meld, which is one of my favorite scenes in the book.

While the romance was underwhelming for much of the book, the storyline with Ptolemy Reborn and the warriors, long-time nemesis, the vampire queen Anubisa was entertaining. The mysterious Ptolemy had nefarious plans and seemed pretty unstoppable, which kept my heart racing. I enjoyed watching the plot unfold and trying to figure out what was going on. The final battle between good and evil was also well played and exciting.

Finally, there were some lovely reunion scenes throughout the story, and primarily at the end of the book. It was a nice was to bring closure to the series. Although some of it was a little bit hokey, it was mostly sweet and satisfying for long-time readers. I also enjoyed the way in which Ms. Day ended the book.

Overall I feel let down by Heart of Atlantis. I think because I had built it up so much in my mind, it just couldn't meet my expectations. The emotional component of what made Quinn and Alaric so explosive in the preceding books was missing in this, their story. The book began in the midst of intense actions without giving the reader any buildup. I wanted and needed more time with Quinn and Alaric when they weren't already in the midst of war and experiencing such strong emotions.

In the end, Heart of Atlantis is a MUST read for fans of Ms. Day’s wonderful series. Hopefully you will find what you are looking for in this, the final tale from Atlantis.

Alaric has been Poseidon's High Priest for over 500 years. It's a very, very powerful job, with one tremendous drawback--the High Priest has to be celibate. As bad as that sounds, he managed to get used to it, well sort of used to it, by walling himself off from his emotions. (It turns out you really can channel all that energy into power, at least if you're a Warrior of Poseidon!)

Then Prince Conlan brought home his human bride, Riley, and Alaric met Riley's sister Quinn, the leader of the human resistance against the vampires. Quinn was his soulmate, but as the High Priest, Alaric couldn't claim her.

Que up 7, count 'em 7 books of angst for Alaric and Quinn, while all the other Warriors found their soulmates. Even the one who was cursed not to feel any emotions at all! Talk about torture...

Heart of Atlantis is Alaric and Quinn's chance at a happy ever after. But, since there is a very real fear that if Alaric gives in to the temptation that Quinn represents, he'll lose his power, their HEA is wrapped up in the resolution of the series.

They need to find the final stone for Poseidon's trident, and Atlantis must rise from the depths of the oceans to take its place among the nations of the world.

Of course, there are obstacles. Not just their old enemy Anubisa, queen of the vampires, but there's a new guy on the block. He calls himself Ptolemy Reborn, and he outs the Atlanteans before they are ready, and exposes Quinn as the leader of the resistance. But the good guys don't know who he is or even what he is. He's not vampire, and he's not demon. So where did he come from and why does he care about their squabbles and their gods?

Meanwhile, Quinn's best friend, Jack, has retreated to his tiger form and refuses, or is unable, to turn human again.

Can this universe be saved? Before the dome over Atlantis cracks completely and everyone drowns?

Escape Rating B-: This wasn't quite as much fun as I hoped it would be when I saw that Day was wrapping up the series. The individual stories have been tons of fun, but there were too many plot threads in the air for this last book, and the story felt scattered.

Ptolemy Reborn's origins came out of nowhere. His obsession with Quinn, and with this world, was never fully explained. It would have made more sense plot-wise if Anubisa were the driving force again, or at least one of her kind. His cannon was a little too loose, in more ways than one.

Alaric and Quinn spend the whole story running all over the place and debating whether they should or shouldn't. Then they get interrupted just as they're about to make love. It's funny the first time, maybe the second, then it gets annoying. Also, they're adults and they never seem to have a rational discussion about the elephant (maybe that should be pod of whales) in the room. And when they finally do manage to consummate their relationship, what should be the epic love scene of all time gets rather short shrift.

It was great to have all the Warriors come back to Atlantis for the final raising of the continent. That was cool. What was not cool was the way that Jack just walked off alone at the end, alone and lonely. I need to know that there's someone for him in the future.

Cool Climaxing Wrap-up

It's hard to believe Alaric the High Priest of Atlantis finally gets his story of happiness with Quinn the Rebel leader which brings about the wrap up of several unfinished scenarios from each cliff hanger endings of the past 7 books in the series.

The book had several major climaxes to include Alaric and Quinn's HEA, the Rise of Atlantis, the ending of Anubisa the Goddess of Chaos and Night, the breaking of the High Priest sacred vows after Five centuries of being celibate, and the future of the Atlantean stance in the new world.

I have to say that I was glad this book brought many endings but it was a little rough getting into in the beginning but by the middle of the story it got more interesting and won me over to giving it a 4 star.

The connection between Alaric and Quinn wasn't quite there for me in the beginning which made it hard for me to believe Alaric's dedication to wanting Quinn as his life time mate. The erotic scenes were mild compared to the other books and if I hadn't of read the previous books to know their past I wouldn't of believed the connection at all. However, the story's other up ending scenarios involving the paranormal world building within this series out weighed their romance and made the story worth the 4 stars.

The author did an excellent job bringing back the past characters together again and to me it was the best part of the story and humorous at times. As always though the author has a great way of writing the intense warring scenes and that alone kept me glued to the book. Here is one scene where I wish I could of been one of Poseidon's warriors and took part in the scene.

"Good-bye, Anubisa," Conlan said. "You are done. This is for my mother, and for seven long, wasted years." With that Conlan pushed Alaric to the side and plunged his sword into Anubisa's heart.
"This is for my mother, and for the lifetime I missed with my brothers," Justice said, and he plunged his sword into her neck.
"This is for all of our family over the last five thousand years who suffered because you didn't know how to take rejection," Ven said, and he shoved his dagger into her gut.

Ok, so you are thrilled like me right, thinking "The Witch is Dead!" and that should do the trick in ending her, well guess again - LOL I'm not going to tell you what happens so you have to read the book to see how her end comes - Hint, lets just put it this way the Trident rules - LOL.

The added evil spawn Ptolemy was the perfect demon that I loved seeing destroyed, his actions kept the story intense and exciting as well and his ending was truly electrifying.

The ending was perfect as of course Poseidon has the last word or should I say plan for the future concerning Alaric, Quinn, and all future Atlantean race - LOL

Great Read!

It was a long wait for the last book in the Warriors of Posedion series. Alaric has been waiting in agony for his happily ever after and I have waited in pain to see him finally happy. Throw in the cliffhanger from the last book of what happens to Jack, and I was on pins and needles waiting for this book.

Alaric is the High Priest of Atlantis, with a lot of responsibility that comes with it. We learn that he was kind of forced into this position, which really honked me off. Due to another priest going kind of crazy when his wife dies, the elders have made sure all future priests are celibate. So over the course of the previous seven books we had watch Alaric love Quinn, but not be able to do anything about it except protect her.

Quinn is the sister of the Queen of Atlantis, Riley, from the first book. In the first book Alaric saves Quinn’s life and the two have been connected, but neither able to act upon their feelings. Quinn also was kidnapped in a previous book by vampires and tortured. Throw in the fact that in battle, her best friend and tiger shifter, Jack, is mortally wounded, Quinn just hasn’t had the greatest time.
I am kind of struggling with this review mostly because I felt the story was kind of slapped together. At about the halfway point I thought we were almost done with the book only to have one more crisis come on. It continued to be like this several times. It felt like the author was ready for the series to end but just didn’t know how to wrap it all up nice and neat.

Quinn and Jack have to fight another dimensional being who claims to be an Atlantean prince. Then there is still the queen vampire from beyond even Hell that just won’t die. Throw in a ragtag group of orphans and Atlantis rising. It just felt disjointed from page one.

So while I wanted to say I enjoyed the ending to a series I adored, I just can’t. It left me feeling like I could have just missed this book and been happy. I wanted so much more for Alaric that what was dealt him. And Quinn just led a plainly horrible life that any woman would need therapy after. While this should have made a kick-ass female, it didn’t elevate that high for me.

You do have to have read the series to understand some of the other characters, but at times you didn’t have to have read anything as new evil was added to the evil already in play. I wish I could recommend this, but unless you are invested in the series, I say move on and read the first books which have such promise.

"Heart of Atlantis" by Alyssa Day. Book 8 (final) of the Warriors of Poseidon series.

It's about time! If you have (or haven't) read this series, the characters of Alaric and Quinn have been denying their feelings for each other since the very first book! FINALLY they get a happily ever after and what an adventure they get to have along the way.

Alaric, the High Priest of Atlantis, has wanted Quinn since the first time he met her and healed her from a gunshot wound. But as High Priest, he has been sworn to celibacy for almost 500 years! If he breaks his vow, he will lose all his magical powers given to him by Poseidon. Resisting Quinn is the hardest thing he's ever had to do but Atlantis is depending on him to find the last jewel, Poseidon's Pride, to be reunited with the Trident so that Atlantis may rise to the surface and join the human world once again.

Quinn has been the leader of the rebellion for many years and has done some really awful things just to survive. When she met Alaric, there was no denying the attraction between them, but there was just no way they could be together. He would lose all his powers if they did. But now, new information has surfaced. High Priests can be intimate and even get married and they will not lose their powers. But which information is correct? The Elders and their talk of celibacy or this new information? Should Alaric and Quinn take the chance at him maybe losing his powers when Atlantis needs him the most?

I really enjoyed this book! The romantic storyline between Alaric and Quinn was excellent, filled with sexual tension and a lot of "I want you but we can't" moments. Some humourous moments are found throughout the book as well. A lot of action. Great emotional scenes between Alaric and Quinn as well. At one point I thought the book was over, everyone was happy, but then I noticed that I still had 25% more of the book to read! I thought, what else could possibly happen to these people? Well, quite a lot happens in the last 25% of the book!

A very exciting ending to a very excellent series! I definitely recommend reading it.

It is finally Alaric and Quinn’s turn and I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally read their story!

Alaric is the high priest of Poseidon, taking a vow of celibacy and receiving great power in return for his priest hood role. Alaric realizes early on that Quinn, sister to the future Queen of Atlantis, is his mate but he does everything in his power to keep his distance until now.

Deciding he’s sacrificed enough for Poseidon he relinquishes his responsibilities to Atlantis and vows to never leave Quinn’s side. Both Quinn and Alaric have led a lonely life and experiences that have left them hurting. They must come together in time to save their families and all the inhabitants above and below the ocean.

Trouble is all around...There is a glitch in the new spirit of the portal. Jack is stuck as a tiger. A new dark magic user rises claiming to be the heir to Atlantis and the rightful king. This new false king also has the last stone of the trident and is obsessed with Quinn. To top it off the “vampire goddess” has returned.

All the warriors must reunite. All the powers must come together to help them pull Atlantis through their newest challenges.

Heart of Atlantis was a fabulously written, fantastic ride into this brilliant world of Alyssa Day. It was wonderful for so many aspects of this story to finally having closure. This is definitely a prized addition to this superb series!

First paragraph: Prologue

The wilderness near Sedona, Arizona, just past twilight

Alaric, sword at the ready, stepped into the path of the oncoming vampire and struck its head from its body before it had a chance to get anywhere near Quinn.

A very thrilling and satisfying conclusion to the Warriors of Atlantis series, I am glad that author Day waited until the very end to give us Alaric and Quinn's story. Yes, Alaric is conceited and arrogant, more and more so over the course of the series, and Quinn is so 'woe-is-me, I have the weight of the rebel world on my shoulders' self-pitying that she can be downright annoying at times. But once the story really started, these character defects got swept away in their amazing story.

A few minor glitches: You would think, after years of planning to raise Atlantis to the surface of the waters, that the leaders in charge would have thought about how to protect Atlantis above water, now that was exposed to their enemies.

The tiger Jack angle was a bit overdone. As was the surfer Portal guy. Duuude. Otherwise, an amazing book.

Amazing read, although it had a "the end" kinda feeling to it...
Was this the last book? I just love this series and I would be really sad to find out this was the last installment. I would definitely keep reading books about this great story-line.

I've been waiting for so long for Alaric and Quinn’s story that I was ecstatic for finally being able to start this installment. Alaric was my favorite character since I started with the series and I needed to read his book and finally see him happy. Quinn was a great heroine and everything I wanted for Alaric. The plot developed smoothly and everything ended just as I wanted it to be.

I'm not giving 5 stars to this book because it kinda started getting a bit corny and silly at the end. Sometimes too many FOREVER AND EVER AND EVEEEER can be a little bit annoying. In this case, I got sick of reading how happy ever after they would be. Apart from that, it was a great story with a lovely romance and characters I will definitely miss.

Finally we get to read Alaric and Quinn's story! Fans of this series have waited long enough to read about these two. The book was not a disappointment. It did start out a bit slowly but it picked up pretty early on in the story.

There were some very intense moments in this story and some super sweet moments in the story. Quinn and Alaric together were very hot and very loving to each other...once Quinn finally admitted she loved Alaric. She thought because of her past that she was "ruined" as she called herself in a previous book. She wasn't "ruined" because of what she had to do to survive. She is tough and good hearted. I'm glad that she finally got her own HEA.

Good ending to this series. Honestly, it's been awhile since I read the rest of the series so I didn't recall all of the details of the other books but it didn't take anything away from the story.

With a sad heart I’m going to have to DNF this title and this breaks my heart. I’ve been reading the Warrior of Poseidon for years and loved every book. Sadly this one has not done it for me. I fought my way to about 40% and I just have no desire to pick it back up. I’m not sure if it’s just been too long between books and I’ve read too many books between and now I can barely remember what happened leading up to this one, or it’s just become predictable and a bit on the stale side. Quinn’s whole worry about whether or not he’ll lose his power feels fake and it takes up a chunk of the plot. The “bad guy” not so interesting. It’s all kind of ehh.. The most interesting character is the portal girl that is now mortal. Maybe I’ll pick this one back up if I feel a burning desire to find out how it ends but at this point it’s going down and staying down.

I've been a fan of the Atlantean series for a long time so when I found out Alaric was finally getting his book I was overjoyed. Yes, we already knew his lady-love was Quinn, but they had so many obstacles to overcome it seemed impossible for them to actually be together. Alyssa did an awesome job of making their story interesting. I loved how all of the warriors were taken back to Atlantis for the final battles.
The ending was also perfect, many loose ends tied up. Though I would like to know more about Jack and sense he may wind up with his own book in the future. Great series, great book!

I can't understand why she has waited so loooong to release this one. I have been waiting since she brought Aleric and Quinn into the very first book. I will say that I now have time to re-read them all and get the story lines all straightened out and where the go in my head. I'm look forward to December.
