I'm a sucker for a good friends to lovers story. I especially love them if they're a second chance romance.
James and Connor were best friends when they were kids. Connor was the popular football player and James (aka Jamie then) was the smart kid who wasn’t overly popular. They were as thick as thieves until James kissed Connor, Connor bolted, and James disappeared without even saying goodbye. The reasons for all of that come out in the book.
Now it’s fifteen years later and James is back in Chester Falls with Kris and Charlie for Tom’s shop’s grand pre-opening. Connor’s not there which is concerning because he knows how important this night is to Tom. All this happened at the end of the last book, along with there being a break-in at Connor’s place and nobody knowing where Connor was. Because of their past, James is fairly certain he knows exactly where Connor is and he’s not wrong.
The reader is taken back in time to see where they began. Thankfully (because I HATE flashbacks in books) it was just enough to show how they knew each other and a little bit of their childhood friendship.
We knew something was up with these guys in How to Catch a Prince. We just didn't know what. When they reconnect Connor starts feeling all kinds of things he's never felt for a man before. James, on the other hand, has always considered Connor his first love.
A few of my faves from the other books are in this quite a bit - Kris, Charlie, and Tom, to name three.
A not-so-favorite (Rory) is also in it but thankfully not for long. It was just enough to throw out a little to make the reader interested in his story. Honestly, it would take A LOT for me to like Rory even a little bit.
The story was good. I enjoyed watching James and Connor come together. And I can't forget Miss Bubbles, Connor's pet turtle. She was good comic relief.
I think this series just keeps getting better. This one had adventure with the romance as someone was stalking and trying to hurt Connor. The mystery was easily solved, but it still added a little excitement to the story. What I really enjoy about these stories is the sweetness of the romance.
I liked the story but I found two names / surnames typos annoying: the main character with wrong surname and a secondary character with a wrong name ....
Ana Ashley have in a short time become one of my insta buys and I don't think that I have ever rated one of her books lover than 4 stars. With that said, this is probably my least favorite of her books. I still like it, just not as much as I've like her other books. It's me, not the book.
I have a problem with violence. I really have. And this had quite a lot of that. Like seriously. A lot. Neither am I a fan of bisexual awakening. Or gfy, or what you want to call it. This one had that too. Ooops. What I do like is Anas writing. She is fantastic with words. And building worlds. Chester Falls are a fantastic place and I just want to live there with all the crazy people living there. Conor and James chemistry was off the charts. They were made for each other and it was so obvious for the reader. At times I wanted to scream at my kindle for them just getting to it. I loved that we got to hear a little from the previous couples in the series. The epilogue is absolutely swoon worthy. And the turtle. The turtle was amazing. I asked my husband if we could get a turtle but he said no. Sad face.
Throughly enjoyed this friends to lovers book. Loved James, the big (and he really was) bodyguard to the Prince in book 1. He had a surprise back story that I wasn't expecting. I really felt for Connor with the situation he was in but he dealt with falling for his friend (and his attraction to a man for the first time) in a mature way. Great to catch up with all the other couples. And excellent narration.
James and Connor are made for each other, plain and simple. From best friends to strangers to friends to lovers their journey was exactly how it was meant to happen for these two.
I love the falling in love with your bodyguard trope especially when it’s mixed with a second chance as well.
James protected Connor with everything he could and boy did he. This was a wild ride and I can’t wait to read the other books in the series.
I am absolutely in love with this series. The history between Connor and James was so sweet and the chemistry was amazing. I love friends to lovers, second chance romances and this book didn't disappoint me. And all the couples from the other books are still there, specially Tom, my cutie. An that insane turtle stole the show I can't wait to read Rory's story
How to Catch a Bodyguard is never third book in the Chester Falls series by Ana Ashley. This book is about Connor and James. I really liked their story. It was sweet, sexy and very well written. I really like this series!
Like the others this was also a fast paced, angsty, quick story. This one had a little more steam than the previous books. They really were a sweet couple with great chemistry. Though unlike the previous ones this is sort of a 2nd chance romance with plenty of resistance so it didnt have that instalove feel. I can't say that I instantly loved the characters cause they frustrated me til more of their history was revealed. I really grew to love the characters though. Even the love affair betweeen the dog and the turtle was cute lol. I really loved this story and listened to it all at once. I left off half a star cause like I said stubborn men frustrate me but the cause behind their resistance was heartbreaking and made sense to me in the end. I couldn't judge them too harshly even if it was somewhat angsty. I also really enjoyed the subplot that was very interesting with a little suspense.
So much drama, quite a bit of angst, former best friends reunited after 15 years — easily the best in the series so far! Loved how closely connected this story was with the previous ones, picking up right near the end of book 2 and how much the characters of the previous stories were present in this one, with Connor being Charlie’s brother and also friends with Tom and Wren, and James being Kris’ head of security and close friend. I also love me a second chance, friends to lovers romance, and this one definitely was both! There was lots of mutual pining for each other, a spiteful someone out to hurt one of the characters, and an overprotective, tiny turtle repeatedly trying to injure the other. I laughed a lot, and thoroughly adored this book!
"How to Catch a Bodyguard" is the third volume of "Chester Falls" written by Ana Ashley. I must admit that this is one of the installments that I have been waiting for impatiently since I read the first part of the series. Why? Because already then the author suggested some interesting pairs to us, and starting from that time we've really wanted to learn their stories. And in "How to Catch a Bodyguard" Ana Ashley tells us one of them. As we could easily guess when reading "How to Catch a Prince", Connor and James share a common past, as the author didn't even try to hide this information from us. But did I expect the events from the said past that were revealed in this volume? No. And what about the story we read, the present of the novel? I think it wasn't easy to predict the plot of this volume. And thanks to this fact, we read "How to Catch a Bodyguard" with undying interest, and this is undoubtedly the most important thing when it comes to the plot of any novel.
Another advantage of "How to Catch a Bodyguard" are the characters. As I've mentioned, they were introduced to us in the series earlier, thanks to which starting the adventure with this volume some readers already know them to some extent and have the opportunity to fall in love with them faster. However, there's no doubt that the author made sure that people who haven't read previous volumes don't feel bad about it when reading this book. Everyone has the opportunity to meet and fall in love with James and Connor on many levels, because they are built taking into account who they were in the past, who they are at the beginning of the novel and how they change as their history unfolds. But what I think their biggest advantage is is that both James and Connor are different than we initially believe, and so in some respects they surprise us.
Another thing I want to write about is love, which is in the air starting from the first page of the novel to the very end. I really liked the fact that the author managed to create this unique vibe of love, which does not have to be described at all, as we can feel it. Believe me, these feelings are just there. Imagine the smell of perfume in the air that follows a person. This is how in "How to Catch a Bodyguard" Ana Ashley builds this love is in the air motif, this unique vibe of love. It is there, just like that.
To sum up, "How to Catch a Bodyguard" is a really nice and worth reading novel. It is interesting, funny and serious at the same time, sweet, but with elements of drama. I simply love the book!

„How to Catch a Bodyguard” jest trzecim tomem „Chester Falls” autorstwa Any Ashley. Dlaczego? Albowiem już wtedy autorka podsunęła nam pewne interesujące pary, których historie naprawdę chcieliśmy poznać. I oto w „How to Catch a Bodyguard” Ana Ashley opowiada nam jedną z nich.
Inną z zalet „How to Catch a Bodyguard” są bohaterowie.
Właśnie w taki sposób w „How to Catch a Bodyguard” w powietrzu unosi się miłość. Ona tam jest, po prostu jest.
Podsumowując, „How to Catch a Bodyguard” to naprawdę fajna powieść, po którą warto sięgnąć.
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted the audio file of this book. This is book 3 in the Chester Falls series, I have not read or listened to books one or two, and I did not feel like I was missing anything by not doing so. I have been fortunate to get audio copies of both of those books though, so I WILL be listening to them in due course. Since James arrived back in Chester Falls a year ago, Connor has been having a bad time. Now someone is trying to kill and reconnecting with James brings up so much hurt that Connor felt when James left. Will reconnecting also bring back the feelings he had before that fateful day? Ana Ashley is a new to me author, although I have some of her alter ego books. Nick Hudson is also a new to me narrator, and the two together blew me away! So many layers and subplots, so many secrets from these two, at one point I wasn’t sure which way was up! Hudson gets across how much James missed Connor all this time, how much he LOVED Connor. Hudson gets across how much hurt Connor carried all this time, since James just upped and left after he did what he did. He gets across how Connor really feels about James, even if Connor doesn’t quite know himself yet. Both Connor and James have a say, in the first person, and in present tense. My least favourite way to READ a book. To listen? Fast becoming my favourite especially with such excellent narration! It wasn’t clear who was doing what they were doing to Connor, and I loved not being able to see that until it was revealed. Love being kept on my toes. The star of the show is not Ashley or Hudson, not even James or Connor, but Bubbles, Connor’s turtle! That little madam must have been Houdini in another life, she really must, the amount of times she gets out her tank! I will be listening to How To Catch A Prince, and How To Catch A Rival in due course. I look forward to doing things backwards, knowing what’s to come! 5 stars for the narration 5 stars for the book 5 stars overall **same worded review will appear elsewhere**
How to Catch a Bodyguard is the third book in the Chester Falls series and can be read as a standalone, but I highly suggest reading the first two books first for maximum enjoyment.
Connor hasn’t had a great year. He’s dumped his girlfriend, gone through the wringer at work, and is still trying to come to terms with the fact that his best friend in high school has suddenly reappeared after disappearing without a word years ago. James has his own secrets, especially about what happened back in high school when he was yanked from Connor’s life without a word, but right now his focus is on the here and now, especially since someone with malicious intent has started targeting Connor. These two men have a lot of baggage they have to unpack, but with the simmering attraction and desire that they hold for each other just under the surface, they have no choice but to air out all the dirty laundry.
The third book in the series still has the Hallmark romance charm of the first two books, but there’s definitely way more action and suspense. James and Connor find themselves in dangerous situations where the wrong move can cost them their lives. Ana Ashley definitely packs in some thrills without skimping on the fluff and romance, which I love so much.
Nick Hudson narrates this audiobook, and like the first and second book, does an amazing job. Nick has a lovely voice that’s perfect for Chester Falls. He keeps the character voices consistent from book to book and it is very easy to follow along in the story. I also liked the energy and enthusiasm Nick puts into his performance. It made the book really entertaining to listen to and I really enjoyed it.
I definitely recommend this book and the entire Chester Falls series so far.
I am so enjoying this series! We first met Connor and James in the first book of this series and Connor was a side character in How to Catch a Rival. Connor was so full of angst in book one. He and James were head to head at one point in that book due to troubles caused by CeeCee, Connor's girlfriend. Ever since then, he seems to be just existing, until James comes back into his life. When we find out the have a past, which included a brief, if not startling kiss, the story goes from there. We are lead through a story of unrequited love, let down and a chance at love again. I love in this day and age, that sexual preference isn't black and white, in the case of Connor who never had a sexual attraction to a male or even an idea that he was "gay" or "bi". Why do there have to be labels for who we love or find attraction? In this case Connor is awakened to feelings he never knew and it is a slow easy going love story, not always smooth sailing, but then again, what love story is? James is always aware of his feelings for Connor, but has put it on the back burner for years while trying to figure out his own life, which led to him becoming the stateside bodyguard for Kris and Charlie. I love how her stories unfold, interconnecting characters from previous books, and in this case a brief meeting of Brad in book in 'Prince', brings him into the mix that we didn't see coming. I sooo love Mary ... and Olly! She full of love and he full of wisdom. Everyone in these books contributes to the main story soo well. And then there is Bubbles and Donnie... do they get a book, lol? Can't wait to read the next, but think I will back track to another side couple, Tristan and Ben!
𝑰𝒍 𝒎𝒊𝒐 𝒄𝒖𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒏 𝒔𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒃𝒃𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒊 𝒂𝒍 𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒐 𝒄𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒓. .
I am truly enjoying my time in Chester Falls. Several couples are already together, and now it’s Connor and James’ turn. I was introduced to the characters in the first book and it was clear there was something more than friendship, although neither was willing to admit it. James is tasked with protecting Kris, the prince of Lidovia. He takes his job seriously, but while visiting Chester Falls, something bad happens to Connor and James is right there to step in.
And take over.
Which Connor truly doesn’t appreciate. Them living in close quarters while the mystery is solved? Not Connor’s idea of fun. But it does mean he gets to spend more time with his brother Charlie who is Kris’ partner. They spend a good time in Lidovia but manage to come back to Chester Falls as the town will always be part of their hearts.
The mystery is a decent one, to be sure, but it is the development of the relationship between Connor and James that really drew me in. Once school boy friends, Connor kissed James and literally the next day James disappeared. Connor has spent the intervening years believing he was somehow the reason for all this, but it turns out there was another explanation. Once all is revealed, it makes more sense.
These men are meant to be together and, happily, they wound up that way.
I have said this before, but Nick Hudson is perfect for this series. He differentiates the characters well and maintains those voices even though there are now a whole pile of men. The next audio is already out so I’m heading that way next.
How to Catch a Bodyguard is the third book in the Chester Falls series. The series consists of interconnected standalones but you can read them in any order. This one was the first one in the series I had read and I followed it just fine. You will definitely have better context if you read them in order, though (and it's slightly spoilery if you read them out of order, but not enough to really hamper your reading or enjoyment of the book).
This story focuses on Connor and James, teenage BFFs who were separated when James’ mother unexpectedly picked up and moved away with James, without giving James a chance to explain or say goodbye to Connor. Of course, this coincided with an ill-timed kiss that sent Connor running away in sexual confusion, and then the two never had a chance to clear the air in the intervening years.
Connor and James are now reunited - although apparently there was a prior meeting a year before which took place in Book 1, and did not go so well. James is a bodyguard, and although detailed as head of security for Prince Kris, who is engaged to Connor’s brother, he ends up protecting Connor when a stalker threatens Connor’s life. There’s angst, drama, suspense, action, steamy scenes, hurt/comfort, bisexual awakening, and some great family dynamics, all rolled up in a neat package with two really hot (and very tall!) MCs who are so obviously in love, but need some help finding their way back to each other. Connor’s absolutely adorable pet turtle-with-an-attitude is a bonus! Highly recommend this book, and the whole series.
