FALSE NOTES (aka Music When Sweet Voices Die) - VG
Yarbro, C.Q. - 2nd in series

Protagonist Charlie Spotted Moon is a Native American and SF lawyer. Each book gets a little darker, but it is a compelling series.

Re-read. Thoughts similar to those on Bad Medicine, plus, that there is a pretty much a sub-genre of 'murder in opera company' mysteries.

Reading it a 2nd time years later (2017). I see the things that "date" it - like lack of cell phones.
