As a young girl with a writer for a mom and three brothers, I lived in the imaginary world of books and movies like Anne of Greene Gables and Indiana Jones. Most of the time I was writing and acting out my own stories with Harrison Ford as my hero. Not too shabby for a seven year old!

I’m a lover of Europe who at twenty got the wild notion to buy an around-the-world plane ticket. For six months I circled the globe on my own, traveling to Singapore, Australia, living and studying in Italy, learning about ancient cultures in Egypt, floating down the Nile, watching animals on safari in Kenya, scuba diving in Tahiti and having a blast. I graduated with honors from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in History.

I now live in South Jordan, Utah, with my husband, two children and three step-children, with whom I dearly love. If I’m not writing romances or young adult stories, I’m reading or out running. A few years ago I had the privilege of running the Boston Marathon.

There were a few good things but way too many bad or even worse.
Among the good things, some dialogues sounded just right and very lively. I really liked the meeting of two former friends of a deceased firefighter around a gala and marathon set up by a charity for firefighters with cancer.
Not let's talk about not so great things. Characterization was rather poor. The hero looked like hastily sketched, and like many other former womanizer hunky muscled firefighter - there was nothing really special in him to make him stand out. The heroine was even worse: valedictorian but lacking professionalism (ie unable to receive properly a client, etc.), highly insecure, supposedly independent though living on her trust fund, intelligent but having had a crush on her childhood friend until 27 years old preventing her from starting any other relationship and being still a virgin at 28 yo because of that (ugh!), not caring about riches but changing the fresh flowers in her office every day (better change the florist in my opinion) and having put there very expensive furniture and art, including a 20.000 dollars desk, I'll stop there but I could find more inconsistencies building a totally fake and unrealistic persona.
And then there's the plot, filled with gaping holes. When and how did the H/h fall in love with each other, was the hero really attracted to her before she lost weight or not, when did her parents get an epiphany regarding their poor relationship with their daughter, did the H/h have sex before their wedding, was the heroine still a virgin at 28, how come she ended up being targeted by the villains... The suspense plot could have been original, except there were several more than stupid things without which the plot would not have worked. It also seemed more than obvious than there was no realism in the legal environment used there and not even much pragmatism (ie. the lawyer being the one to bring the green card to former illegal immigrant, undercover in a seedy bar, the DA being given the FBI plans...)
Last thing and I'll stop my ranting. I hate it when there's some name or brand dropping that's incorrect. For her birthday, she received a nice turquoise-blue box (looks like the Tiffany's robin egg's blue box), except it was a Cartier watch inside (which should have been red with gold filigrane). Maybe that was another crime for her super rich Senator's father, he did not even buy the genuine watch for his daughter and settled for a cheap fake...

It just didn't felt real. Everything was so stiff and unnatural. The conversations were a little bit ridiculous at times and just so very unnatural. Nobody talks like that.
And the way they developed feelings felt ridiculous. Just felt off and forced.

I really liked this story, but there just wasn't anything truely amazing about it.

I really liked how the emotions were displayed. They were very real and I could connect with how they were both feeling. She worried he only liked her now because she lost weight and he worried he would always be second best to Tim.

Both CJ and Natasha loved their friend Tim, but they never discovered each other until his death pulled them together.

When Natasha's pro bono law work for Illegal Aliens causes threats against her life, CJ will do anything to insure her safety.

Which leads to another part I really liked about this book. You actually got to see their relationship form and continue. Most the time they don't get together until the end, but these two get engaged and meet his family together. I enjoyed reading about that.

It doesn't take long for the danger to find her and once again they both fight to stay alive for the other.

Good read. Sorry if this isn't a normal review for me, it's 12:30 am where I'm at....time for bed.

Reading this book I channeled my five year old niece Jane, shaking my head and saying loudly "No, No, No." And at page 98 I gave up.

A friend of mine recently told me that you should never read a book where the main character is in the same profession as you unless the author also is a member of that profession. This book provides ample proof for that axiom. As a lawyer, there was just so much wrong with this book that I could not continue reading it. It's not worth laying everything out because if you're not a lawyer you might not care. Heck, even lawyers who've not practiced immigration law may not be as troubled.

I picked this book up because I wanted to try Harlequin's American Romance series, but did not want to read about cowboys. I like firemen. Firemen are hot. But if the heroine is a lawyer . . No, No, No.

Very good it hated to put it Down :) the CJ liking Benny (forgot real name lol) all along for like two years and not doing anything about it because she had an unfulfilled crush on Tim......was very farfetched to me....Tim never liked Benny like that and CJ moving in and being like I like Benny would have not been a crime in my opinion....but anyways!! Still liked it

I tried, really, I tried but by page 100 I just could not take it anymore. The heroine got on my nerves so bad I just couldn't finish this book. After page 100 I gave up reading & skimmed through the rest of the book. I was seriously not impressed.

This book was written by my great dear friend Dominique. It is a fun, clean romance novel with a great story line, some good current topics are addressed, and the characters are easy to care about.
