I’m unemployed and down to my last dollar—thank you, stranger, who bought my coffee when my card was declined this morning. If that wasn’t bad enough, I just T-boned the truck belonging to the guy I was meeting on a first date.
Ethan Hellman, small-town sweetheart with a secret, and an instant—unbelievable—love for me despite the condition of his truck.
It’s not that I don’t believe in love per se. It’s just that I’ve done the calculations—it won’t happen to me. And especially not now when I’m bouncing off rock bottom with the bruises to prove it.
But Ethan doesn’t seem to care about all that. He offers me a job, a place to live…and a rock on my finger. I just have to turn my back on my career, pretend to be giddy in love, and be the face of his new company. His constant sunshine makes me grumpy. It’s also kind of addicting. So I agree to his terms and find myself living a life I don’t recognize.
Things are going surprisingly well when someone from my past reappears offering a similar lifeline. I’ll have to make some tough decisions that just don’t compute in my logical brain.
Ethan may have fallen first, but I’m afraid I’ve fallen harder.

Ace, Blaze, Callan, and Daxon who?? Step aside all you older Hellman brothers, there’s a new brother to swoon over and his name is Dirty Boy Ethan. *heart eyes*
My goodness, I knew Ethan was a big sweetheart from the previous books, but little did I know he’s a deliciously dirty-talking sweetheart. I already knew I’d love him, but finally reading his story, getting inside his head, and hearing his thoughts and feeling his happiness? Utterly. Smitten. I fell hard for the dirty boy.
The meet-cute between Ethan and Andi was absolutely adorable. They’re both a little quirky in their own way, and when you put them together, they just work. And it’s delightful. Watching these two together put so many smiles on my face and put hearts in my eyes quite often.
In addition to being caring and kind and protective, Ethan can also be patient. He has to be if he wants to get the girl. Because Andi definitely needs time to process the chaos currently happening in her life. She’s needs to think things over and work through some things.
With Falling First Hell, Marika did what she does best. She combined humor, heart, fun and lovable characters, and all sorts of goodness to make this a highly enjoyable and entertaining read.
Auburn Hill is one of those places I wish was really on the map. And I want so badly for the characters to be real. And I definitely want to be friends with all of them. Am I sad this book is the last of the series? Yes. Such bitter sweetness. But am I ecstatic that a new spin-off series will be starting soon? HELL YES.
If you’ve read and loved the other books in this series, I have no doubt you’ll enjoy this one.
Rating: 3.45 6.9 (CAWPILE) Liked - Enjoyed reading even though Andi became more annoying with time. While I like Ethan, I found him too sweet and forgiving to be remotely believable as a real character in a real-world setting.
Most memorable lines Just because my life was crumbling like a cookie in the fist of a sugar-addicted toddler
They only keep you on because you’re a kiss-ass. Have fun smelling like shit.
Before I knew it, there was a mess of bath bombs both on the floorboard of my truck and exiting my truck, like little round soldiers heading for freedom post-haste.
The couple had been married for seventy-four years with no children to give their belongings to. I figured a ring that outlasted wars, famines, and the stress of everyday life was a special one indeed.
So you lied to make people you used to know have a good opinion while the lie made the person you say you love feel like shit.
My shoulders rolled back, and I felt like Wonder Woman when bullets harmlessly bounce off of her.
We finally have Ethan Hellman's story in Falling First Hell by Marika Ray, and what a story for the youngest Hellman brother. We have seen him throughout this series as the one who helps his older brothers when needed but now we have his crazy love story with Andi from how they meet, to a work proposal to possibly something more. Ethan is a guy that goes all in and gives everything with his whole heart. Andi is a smart woman but needs a little encouragement to jump into the craziness that Ethan is providing. And then to watch these two together is something special and fun and very loving. Hopefully their cars will last until the end of days. The overall best part of their story is we are back in Auburn Hill with Ethan's family and all of the wonderful characters we love from this town by Marika Ray.
Grumpy, socially awkward nerd-girl finds her cinnamon roll hero hottie? Sign me up. Because I’m definitely hoping that I can channel her success into my own life. Everything about Andi resonated with me; she was so easy for me to connect with. And Ethan is such a sweetie, he might just be my new gold standard for book boyfriend material. I loved these two together so much. Between their antics and that of their friends and families I spent most of this book laughing my backside off. I hate that we’ve come to the end of the Hellman brothers’ series, but my fingers are crossed that we’ll see lots of cameo appearances in future books. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.
Nice guys may finish last, but they can also make you fall the hardest. Trust me when I say that your heart doesn't stand a chance against Ethan and once you add in Andi? Stick a fork in you because you are done. These two had me basking in all the feels as they tugged at my heartstrings and tickled my funny bone. It is impossible not to laugh out loud as you read this book, but your heart is also going to wickedly ache for Andi. I'm super bummed to say goodbye to this series but I'd be lying if I didn't admit to how excited I am to dive in and enjoy what comes next. This is my freely posted, impartial review.
That last Hellman brother finally gets his story, and he is by far the sweetest! Sometimes stories about fake fiancées can all blur and read the same, but this one was different. It was for a great reason (I won’t spoil how), and how their mutual attraction was there from day one, helped them blur those lines quickly. This story was effing hawt, funny, and just a smidge of angst (not too much). Ethan and Andi learn how to heal and grow together.
I highly recommend this book, as well as all the other Hellman siblings stories.
I received an advanced copy of this fabulous story. This review is of my own opinion.
When Ethan meets Andi he was enchanted by her and wasn’t about to deterred even when they got into a fender bender before their first date. He knows that she is everything he wants and more and is patient and understanding until she realizes it as well.
Andi is going through a difficult time in her life both personally and professionally so she doesn’t see herself the way that Ethan does. What she views as weaknesses only makes Ethan adore her more as he shows her she is perfect just the way she is.
This story had the perfect mix of humor and romance. The characters are captivating, the storyline entertaining and it was great to catch up with the other Hellman’s as well.
3 stars I liked Ethan throughout his brothers’ books. He took a lot of ribbing from his brothers with grace. And he was insightful. Therapist insightful. Here, I don’t know, he’s not the same. He’s like a teen girl drama llama. He deserved a better book. And Andi is cute in a nerdy girl shy way, but she’s really over the top. And her mother, more so. I liked it. I’m sorry to see the series over. But this was not the best finale I’ve read.
I’ve waited for five books for sweet Ethan to get his HEA and Marika Ray did not disappoint!
Falling First Hell (Hellman Brothers Book 5) is the final book in the Hellman Brothers Series. It can be read as a standalone, but then you would be missing out on all of the HEAs and hilarity that the rest of the Hellman brothers and the small town of Auburn Hill provide.
Ethan and Andi are a dream couple. Their story is sweet, funny, hot and one that each of us can find something to relate to in. From the moment they meet, it is clear that Ethan and Andi are meant to be together. They each possess what the other needs to make them whole.
Ethan is the youngest of the Hellman brothers and the official “good guy” of the group. Underneath that handyman hotness is a man who falls fast and hard. He knows the moment he meets his asparagus that he needs to know everything about her. He also needs her as a cover for his secret business. He devises a plan to keep her close and to make her believe in the future he sees for them.
Andi is the grumpy, nerdy, introvert. Left homeless, jobless and hopeless, she buys into Ethan’s plan to be the face of his company. A string of relationships with “snoozers” has left her lacking in self-esteem and with a belief that love is not in the cards for her. While she sees her quirkiness as off-putting, it is the thing Ethan loves the most about her. Will she allow the love of a “good man” to help her develop her self-confidence and see herself as others do?
Thank you Marika for creating a Hell we would all love to visit. I will truly miss the characters you brought to life and will truly miss the brother’s group text threads, which provided some of the best humorous highlights.
I look forward to my journey down the Highway to Hell toward Blueball.
I loved, loved Ethan and Andi’s happy-grump, forced proximity, love at first sight, heart warming romance with a side of healing. And the meet cute - oh my goodness - adorkable - clearly being dressed as an asparagus spouting asparagus facts would not usually be reason to fall in love, unless you’re Ethan and Andi. Ethan is the last of the five Hellman brothers to be single. He’s a handyman but he also has a secret side hustle. Andi is at a low point in her life, jobless, homeless and relationshipless, when she meets Ethan. He is the sunshine to her grumpiness. Understanding that Andi is the love of his life, he quickly gives her a job, a place to stay, and agrees to be her fake fiancée all to give himself time to woo her. The journey to their HEA is so very heart warming and swoony. This entire story made me happy except for the brief breakup scene. I especially loved the way Ethan gently, lovingly, and beautifully helped Andi come out of her self-imposed prison, begin to shine and helped her to discover her own awesomeness. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. It will give you all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering through sweet moments, steamy scenes, laughs, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, and all the wonderful heart squeezing love. I wish there were more Hellman brothers to get HEAs but I am glad there will be similar shenanigans and love in a Blueball series.

Falling fast - the youngest Hellman brother. Loved it. This is the final book of the Hellman brothers series. A funny encounter at a baseball game have Ethan Hellman and Andi meeting in unusual circumstances. Unable to exchange names Ethan reaches out the only way he can to try and find the mysterious disappearing woman. When their next encounter starts in disaster Ethan by then is smitten and offers an unusual proposition to Andi to keep her by his side. Sparks fly, awkwardness too as they learn to navigate their lives together. With two “hands on” families and a loyal best friend helping along the way they can surely work through all that comes their way. A really enjoyable story that was sweet, funny, steamy at times, with lots of banter along the way. I loved the characters and the storyline. I’ve only recently started reading / listening to Marika’s Hell books and I’ve loved every one of them. An enjoyable audiobook, both narrators were great together making this audiobook so easy to listen to. I received a copy of this audiobook for my honest review.
“Why must one start their day off with a smile. Isn’t it enough to just start your day?”
Seriously though?! I’m not a morning person and I definitely don’t wake up with a smile 😆
Andi Higgs has it bad, unemployed with no job prospects in sight she has no choice but to go back home. Until Ethan Hellman comes along! Ethan, youngest Hellman brother, all sunshine and a complete romantic. He offers Andi an opportunity she can’t refuse. He figured they can help each other out while he makes sure that she falls for him like he has fallen for her. The thing with Ethan is when he falls, he falls fast and hard.
This was the perfect ending to the series. Ethan is the youngest and the least grumpiest of them all, perfectly rounds up these Hellman brothers from Hell. And Andi is the perfect addition to the Hellman women. Smart, witty and her own brand of quirky. Love that Ethan is the sunshine one and Andi is the grumpy one.
Definitely going to miss the lovable townspeople of Auburn Hill.
The last Hellman brother finds his match…in a very interesting way! Ethan is the baby of the family; the “sunshine boy”, as momma Nikki calls him. So it only makes sense that he be matched with a kinda grumpy woman. One with a “resting Andi face”…that line lit me up. Andi is not the happy smiler that Ethan is, but he likes her as is. Which she doesn’t quite understand but appreciates anyway. I’ve loved this series from the start, but Ethan and Andi are definitely my favorite. Grumpy/sunshine is my go-to trope for the past year, so I think I’m an expert on them . While so many others are written with a grumpy male and sunny female, Marika Ray turned that frown completely around and I loved it. I possibly resemble it a bit, too. While I’m sad the boys are all married off, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Auburn Hell, I mean, Hill. And that turns my own frown upside down as well.
Okay, these two...I know them! Ethan is a dream guy, or a unicorn, because I’m not sure anyone this dreamy and perfect exists. And Andi – she is just adorable! She needs to work on her self esteem but I understand her.
It’s a really fun book. From the start, with Ethan dressed up (you need to read it to get the full effect), the laughs just keep on coming. But there is so much heart, too. I loved how close the Hellmans are and even when they are pains (to one another), they still stick together. Loved Ethan’s mom, Nikki, too.
Reading how Ethan takes care with Andi and her feelings? Perfect! How he tries to make her fall in love with him? Hilarious! And Andi standing up for Ethan? It will get you right in the feels! Loved these two!
Disappointed. The sex scenes were great, loved the last one with the torn dress but the story itself was a let down. I was excited for Ethan’s story too and while I appreciate having the reverse grump who I definitely resonated with I just felt the story was flat. This is the third book where they end up living together. It was just same old same old. I also hate the fake engagement trope. Upon meeting all the brothers in the first book I could have sworn the order of likeness would have been Ethan, Callan, Blaze, Ace, Daxon but after reading them all the order (by character not necessarily their story) is Callan, Blaze, Ethan, Daxon, Ace. By story: Blaze, Callan & Daxon tied, Ethan & Ace tied.
Ethan’s book is the last book in the Hellman Brothers series. It could be read on its own, but the characters from previous books make frequent appearances in this one so it’s even better as part of a series.
I love the Ethan was really sweet, that Andi was a little bit geeky and self conscious but also smart, and that there was personal growth on both sides over the course of the story. I also appreciated that when the inevitable relationship challenges appear, that they worked them out relatively quickly.
I received a copy of the book at my request and read it in KU. The opinions here are my own.
This may be the last of the Hellman Brothers series, but it’s not the last book I’ll read by Marika Ray. She has so many books still to read from this small town and I’ll be reading all of them. This book is centered around Ethan, the youngest of the triplets, and his love for Andi. He falls hard and fast. Andi, on the hand, lacks confidence in herself, so we know there’s going to be some angst because of that. I loved getting to catch up with the other Hellman brothers and their significant others. Grab your copy and see what happens in this delightful read.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again, even louder for those in the back: there's not a single Marika Ray book on earth that won't make you laugh, cry, want to better yourself, and adopt a random pet, at one point or another. I don't know how she does it, I don't know how she constantly outdoes herself and continues to write these characters who resonate with me more and more with every chapter of every book I read. It's almost as if she's writing them for me, like she knows exactly what I need to read and how I need to hear it for it to sink in. She's a magician, and I love her for it! See y'all on another page!
"So the last Hellman brother falls, and in a spectacular way. Ethan and Andi have several meet-cutes but their attraction was instantaneous. This story is sweet and hot but quirky too and so damn entertaining Ethan, the happy -go -lucky brother of the bunch, finds love at first sight at a ball game. Andi the grumpy programmer isn't looking for love in her life.
Watching this couple grow both individually and together cements that they are perfect for one another. We get to visit with the other Hellman couples and mom, Nikki along with Auburn Hill favorites. Loved their story"
This book was actually really cute. I like that the way that Ethan and Andi met was a little unconventional, but things still turned out good for them. Major points for Ethan and his use of Taylor Swift song titles...I think that was one of my favorite parts!! Their relationship was adorable, and I think that I'm really starting to like the grumpy/sunshine trope. I'm looking forward to see what else Marika has in her back list.
Like all of Mrs. Ray's novels, this one is fantastically hilarious. I love the banter between all the characters and seeing the main couple Andi and Ethan bloom into their future together. Whelp, it was great! I highly recommend this book and the entire Hell series. Can't wait to see what happens in the next town over we're heading to next.
I knew I would like Ethan! He was a sweet as I expected him to be and I loved the two of them together! Loved this reversed Grumpy-Sunshine version. I could relate a lot to Andi although I’ve no idea about coding. I’m a little sad that he was the last Hellman brother and I’m really sad to leave this special town. Great book.
I loved Ethan, he was such a sweetheart. He was perfect for Andi and helped her gain self confidence. It was a fun visit to Auburn Hill to see. The last of the Hellman brothers find the one.
I love the relationships between the brothers, their significant others, their mom and the quirky townspeople.
It's fun to read this book. Despite Andi's grumpy and dry personality, Ethan accepted her just as she is. Even finding Andi's antics adorable. Andi's socially awkward, has a very dry humor, but smart. Ethan, being the youngest, had a hard time placing himself in his family.
He falls first. Good guy finishes first. She's the geeky computer nerd. They meet by accident, literally. She's broke, no job, no place to live when they crash into each other. He offers a job, place to live, and more. Final Hellman brother Ethan, gets his happy ever after.
Ethan Hellman last of the brothers still single. After a crash he meets the girl of his dreams. Mia is desperate and about to move home crashes into Ethan’s truck. Read their story
I loved Ethan and Andi, their first meeting was one for the books. Ethan, I just loved him he fell fast and hard. Andi, I feel you girl been there done that but hold on with both hands and feet!!!! Loved it.
