'Ellen Montgomery wants nothing more than to live her life on her terms. However when her Father catches her riding his favorite stallion astride and in her brothers breeches no less, he decides to send Ellen to Paris for some much needed polish before the London Season. Ellen is soon fascinated with the Lords she meets, but only one makes her blood burn in more ways than one!
Christopher Fairfax, the new Earl of Durham has sworn off women, they are nothing but trouble. But he soon finds himself intrigued by his best friend’s younger sister, a wild little hellion who won’t listen to reason and won’t stay out of his head.
Ellen and Christopher both find themselves courting danger when they find a common enemy in Lord Darby, a ruthless man wanted by the crown for murder. A man determined to gain Ellen’s hand and therefore her fortune in marriage by any means necessary. Ellen and Christopher must work together to stop him before it’s too late.' - This is the Amazon synopsis.

Here are some of my thoughts on this story... Ellen Montgomery is a lucky 19 year old girl because she comes from a loving well-to-do family with a father and brother that cares for her well-being. She is willful because she has been given the freedom to discover her own likes and dislikes, which is unusual for this historical European time period where women were family ornaments like any other possession in a titled and wealthy society. When a man is down on his luck he only had to marry a rich daughter, the Lord Darby (he is a Duke) is in that situation and has decided to take Ellen (without informing her of this) in marriage so that he can have her body and her large dowry.
Christopher Fairfax, the new Earl of Durham needs to get his mental problems together and help the perfect woman (Ellen) from the nasty clutches of Lord Darby. Chris has the benefit of being best friends with Ellen's brother and Ellen has strong feelings (lust?) for him from their first meeting.
I had a hard time getting into Ellen's POV, she is so silly and brainlessly reactionary that I wanted to slap her and lock her into her room. Chris is also a dumbass in his clumsy to an extreme courtship of Ellen, he is 34 years old whilst she is 19! The author could use the excuse that first love comes at any age and will strike anyone stupid. But Ellen is particularly idiotic in running off and riding alone in London, it is like she is begging for Darby to kidnap and forcibly marry her! Everyone knows that at that time it was terribly dangerous for well born women to travel alone in London, especially if you happen to have the largest dowry in the country. To make things worse they decide to let Darby kidnap Ellen to catch him making an illegal action, but seriously?! This is some crazy stupid Scooby Gang plan. There are kisses and allusions some pleasure, but Ellen stays a virgin through out the story.
The writing was good. The kindle formatting was AWFUL! Terrible reading experience and someone has to contact the publisher to fix the formatting because most sentences take three lines and are cut in awkward and inexplicable places. I almost had to stop reading the story because it was that BAD.

Hi y'all Anne here I have just had the intense pleasure of reading Courting Danger (Agents for the Crown) and this book was marvelous, dramatic, exciting, lovable, and beautiful. I absolutely mark this as one of my favorite books ever. I have read plenty of period pieces like Emma, Pride and Prejudice and many more, this book is right up there with them. The author did the time of the piece justice, the dresses were elegantly described along with the jewelery and settings for each fantastical ball that the lovely Ellen attended. The scenes painted are the things that form dreams, being dressed by your maid and having your hair just so, it puts you right there in the room smelling the lavender water perfume and seeing the glistening jewels adorning the young missus neck. This book makes men breathtaking and polite just as they were, when it was only proper to ask for a place on a dance card if a lady caught your attention. Christopher was taken with Ellen upon sight and while Ellen is young and feisty there is an obvious draw between the two. Second guesses and jealousy take the young love birds on an intimate journey of discovery, acceptance, and undeniable love. I can't even begin to do this story justice of describing the enticing way it is written, pulling you in and wrapping you in courting, balls, operas, moonlit garden walks and romance that makes you want to go back in time and get a piece for yourself.
Now every story has a twist but this one goes deep into the story and feeds the emotions of the characters sight unseen. Christopher discovers truths forgotten that only deepen his love and protectiveness over the beautiful and stubborn Ellen. While he wants to protect her he can't fathom dashing that fire in her that he adores so much that she haunts his dreams and occupies his every waking thought. I am absolutely in love with this story and the characters and can not wait for the second installment so that I can be taken away into a beautiful story with amazing characters. 5 out of 5 stars for Elizabeth A. Lance and her book Courting Danger (Agents for the Crown).

Courting Danger: Agents For the Crown by Elizabeth Anne Lance

3 Stars

Predominantly a period romance, Elizabeth Lance did throw a little intrigue into ‘Courting Danger’ book one of her Agents of the Crown series. When Ellen visited France with her aunt, she was totally smitten by her brother’s friend Christopher Fairfax. Unfortunately he was determined not to be taken in by any female he met on this trip and he saw Ellen as nothing more than an annoying flirt. Ellen, being quite forward for the time, approaches Christopher and asks him why he is treating her so harshly, and initially I did feel like it was a case of, ‘wanting what you can’t have’ when it came to her feelings for him.

I found it quite difficult to connect with either Ellen or Christopher.

Ellen because she was so selfish and annoying. She was way too boyish for this time period and her actions were rarely those befitting of a lady. She was like a pampered princess and I just didn’t like her, I wouldn’t make her my friend!

Christopher was grumpy and rude although he did become more acceptable during the story, my mind was kind of set into ‘eww he’s an ass’ mode, the first impression really did last!

Overall this was an interesting story though quite long winded and in parts over written. I think it may have been easier to enjoy had it been less wordy.

ONE THRILL SEEKING LANDSLIDE!!!
Splendid! Elizabeth pours it on thick, tasty and thrilling with this beautifully composed crème de la crème, rolling out one killer storyline and complex plot, ratcheting up the heat and magic, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Surprising happenstance and unsettling mishaps, swirl with the formidable trials and challenging tribulations, spinning alongside the deadly twists and wicked turns, putting our characters through their paces, testing them in ways they could have never imagined. Coiled, knotted and tightly woven, displaying the explosive ups and agonizing downs, grounding in it's simplicity and awe-inspiring in it's depth. Shenanigans, chaos and mayhem rule the roost displaying the drama, anxiety, intrigue, turmoil, secrets, underlying threats, danger, mounting suspense and unnerving situations along with a boatload of trouble while dodging nefarious deeds, you have one jaw dropping masterpiece. Crushing the boundaries and stretching the limits, displaying the strengths and weaknesses being weighed and balanced, propelling this jewel on-ward without a hitch, slamming it into overdrive, launching it into a tailspin with a eye-opening realization. The attraction and chemistry builds as each layer is peeled back exposing an intensely undeniable emotions, binding them to one another perfectly. The characters are complex and genuine with traits and qualities that add depth and realism that blend and flow, transforming into amazing personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions that feel as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Elizabeth, thanks for sharing this lil' fella with us.

What a wonderful story! I always look forward to one of Ms. Lance's books. She has such a fresh and creative way of telling a story and making it come alive with her writing. Her descriptions are so vivid that you really get a feel for the surroundings, the feelings of the characters, and what's happening in the scene. This book was no different. The storyline caught my attention from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. Just the right mix of mystery, intrigue, and romance. The characters were great and worked well together. Plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing. This is the first book in what looks to be an awesome series and I'm looking forward to reading the next one!

Ellen Montgomery is not a typical woman for this time period. She tries to live her life the way she wants it and not within the expectations of society. The final incident is when her Father finds her riding his favorite stallion astride rather than sidesaddle and wearing her brother's breeches instead of the cumbersome riding habit. Stunned at her forwardness, he sends Ellen to Paris for some toning down of her attitude before she embarrasses everyone during the next London Season. With a spirit like Ellen’s, however, she is not “brought to heel” but is rather fascinated with the Lords she meets. She is particularly drawn to Christopher Fairfax, the new Earl of Durham, who has unfortunately sworn off troublesome women.

Ellen and Christopher end up in danger when they encounter Lord Darby, a dangerous man wanted by the Crown for murder. Worse yet, Lord Darby wants Ellen’s hand to get at her fortune any way he can. Can the feisty Ellen and Christopher work together to stop him before he succeeds at his dastardly scheme?

Ellen and Christopher great characters.
I enjoyed this tale Christopher has gone with his friend Jonathon back to England from Egypt. Ellen has been sent to her aunt because she is a bit of a hellion. The attraction between Ellen and Christopher was there from the start but Ellen wants to determine her own life and Christopher does not want to fall in love. There is also an outside their own challenges in getting together there is a villain who is going to cause trouble. This tale has drama, danger, and high emotion. The characters were amazing and enjoyed seeing the growth in them. This was an excellent well-written piece that I am happy to recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Christopher and Ellen are both determined to live their life the way they want but when they meet everything changes. Even though they fight their attraction for each other fate intervenes as they end up working together to stop the dangerous man. This is a regency romance filled with drama, mystery, danger, suspense, intrigue and unexpected twists that had me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. I look forward to reading the rest of the Agents for the Crown series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Courting Danger: Agents for the Crown is a good historical romance. The characters are interesting and have great chemistry together. The storyline is entertaining, with a dangerous enemy, kidnapping, intrigue, and romance. There are also vivid descriptions of the dress and social activities of the period which are very well written.

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

I loved this Regency romance with great characters, romance and intrigue. She was 19 and a feisy redhead that liked to wear men's clothes to ride astride. Her father sent her to Paris to a finishing school, but it didn't do a lot of good. Then she went to Paris with her aunt and got to go to balls there and had 3 men interested in her. One was a duke that was bad. Another was a young man who cared for her, but she didn't care for him except as a friend. She fell for Christopher who had just become an Earl, but she didn't know it. There is a lot of intrigue, but the ending was great.

Oh Queen Lance I do love your skill in writing regency historicals <3 My book club (The Word Wenches) and I had the chance to meet Elizabeth Lance for our book club after reading her book. It was memorable to say the least and I can't wait to read more of her books and to sit and pick her brain again.

Ellen Montgomery is going to court to find a husband for herself. She dreams of a tall dark and handsome but doesn't realize that she is soon going to meet him. Christopher Fairfax has recently become the new Earl of Durham. Instead of heading straight home from Egypt he decides to join his friend Jonathan Montgomery in his home coming only to find out that Jonathan secretly wanted to play match maker and introduce him to Ellen. He tells Jonathan he doesn't want to take a wife and that no girl will catch his attention and to keep his title secret. Love at first sight strikes when their eyes meet across the ballroom floor and Ellen sees the face of the man who has been in her dreams. But the two have a lot to admit to themselves and obstacles to over come if they want a chance at being together. With Chris trying to piece together his memory from a broken tormenting time, he doesn't think he is capable of keeping Ellen safe or giving her what a husband should give. Ellen is a little sparkler and very spontaneous. She is also very quick to anger and to run away to cool off. Two completely different people who are trying desperately to contain themselves. And Chris isn't the only one showing interest in Ellen. She has a few other suitors who are hot on her heels one of which will not take no for answer.

I really enjoyed this story. I love the regency setting. I love historical. It's a secret shhhh lol. It dragged a short time in the beginning which took me for a snooze. I understand though that an entire series world was built upon what was in this first book so I'm okay with it. Like I said I love this time era so it wasn't so bad I couldn't endure it. The story gave me almost everything I wanted. With this being a YA novel I couldn't have the hanky panky my dirty little heart desired. Instead what I did get was a heart stuttering love story with a little petting here and there that kept the blood pumping. I'm really hoping to get closer to the other characters as I read the rest of the books. A little bird has whispered about one character in particular that my book club and I want to know more about :) Thanks Elizabeth for being an amazing down to earth author and for catering to our group. Lots of <3 lady!

I loved this book! I can't seem to get enough of Elizabeth A. Lance's writing I love it all! she is such a passionate and creative writer and you can see it in the telling of this historical tale. She brings her characters to life in a way that it feels like your not in the past but in a day to day present, everything seems such at ease and you live side by side the characters throughout it all.

The balls and gowns and of course the dashing gentleman in this one were wonderful and full of style and grace. I loved each of the characters! I really liked that Ellen was a bit of a spitfire and tended to go off on people when you lest expected it and that her and her friends would sit and gossip about the men kind of like women today would, admiring their backsides and such...lol

This tale had a bit of danger and mystery in it, without giving anything away I will say there is kidnappings, chases, strong tempers, violent outbursts, fist fights and much more! The villain keeps the book audience on it toes waiting for him to pounce!

The stolen kisses and romantic scenes where the best part though as the main characters were so in love! nothing better then the anticipation of being together, of the wait and wait that comes before marriage. Of course things are done a little differently now but the anticipation is still there none the less.

make sure to get your copy today! a great read for all the historical romance fans out there!

A wonderful and creative story with romance, match-making, mystery, and danger. This story will keep you captivated till the end. I love the characters she has created, and that part of the story takes place in France, the rest in England. The author, Elizabeth A. Lance has captured my attention with this first book in the Agents for the Crown series. I look forward to reading the remaining books in this series. I hope you will read this book, and discover this author's talent for writing, as I have.

The author has done her research in bringing this story to life in the fashions and having servants. One wonders if there weren’t more women like Ellen, wanting life on her terms, or rather to be free to riding a stallion in breeches. Knowing it was not at a gallop and feeling the winds and freedom. She finds her soul mate in Chris, a passion, and intrigue. Then there is another man who is set on greed to marry her fortune. Well done as was the narration which added to this story. I bought this eBook after interviewing the author. I'm normally not a fan of Regencies, but found that I could not put this down. Some slight errors with the formatting, but this can easily be remedied.

I found the characters engrossing, but felt that there was more to be developed with the two leads Ellen and Christopher. Vivid descriptions abound though.

The author obviously enjoys Regencies, and she definitely has a talent for it.

3.5 fun stars

I enjoyed reading Courting Danger.
I like reading about a spunky female character that likes to push the limits, especially in a regency. Granted pushing the limits in those times for an everyday girl is a little different than it is today.
I would call this a fun love story..but look out for the bad guys.

I am excited to see what happens with the rest of the folks in the story.

I love how the author weaves parts of English history into this unusual romance. Several of the characters were intelligent agents for the British government, hence the title "Agents for the Crown". The story had the right mix of romance and intrigue. The I look forward to reading more books from this series!

I was expecting a romantic thriller from the series title... so disappointing! Main characters were annoying and not “agents of the crown” so no action from them and the real agent was just a second character with little plot... sorry it was just boring

Got duped by the title

Was looking fwd to read a spy or some kind of agent's story but it turned up just another Marriage Mart story, a silly h and a confused H, love at the first sight but somehow they try to conceal their affection and yet trying to win each other heart eh? On the top of it there's a duke who destitute and needs money to improve his financial and think only the h can help his problem since apparently she is the ONLY one in ton that comes with a large dowry too many words to describe one simple thing. *yawning.
