Between Bloode and Stone

Cursed long ago to check their growing power, vampires can only coexist in small groups. Yet despite their many conflicts, those Of the Bloode possess similar traits. All vampires, no matter where they came from, are male. They can go unnoticed by humans unless they wish otherwise, and they can’t survive sunlight.

Mormo, servant of the goddess Hecate, has created a small, new bloode clan at her behest. The six vampires he commands are rough, ill-disciplined, and mean, and they fail to follow orders on a daily basis. But they’re needed. Something big and bad is coming. Hecate, goddess of death, magic, and gateways, has a duty to guard the borders of the mortal world. She knows that without a strong force to contain the threat, chaos will come, destroying everything in its wake.

Hecate’s secret weapons are those Of the Bloode—vampires. Though they refuse to worship anything but themselves, she loves their wild ways. In order to battle gods and monsters and survive, they’ll need ferocity, inner strength, and something to fight for. Because there is nothing so dangerous as a predator who loves, and those Of the Bloode protect what’s theirs at all costs, in undeath and beyond.

And Varujan of the Night Bloode has just found the one female he can’t do without…

Had some interesting aspects of it but in the end wasn't my cup of tea. Didn't get invested in either the couple or the world building. Might read something else by Marie Harte though. Don't think I've READ any of her other books.

This was a bit slow starting out but it sucked me in as I got to know all the characters and wanting to see how they were going to conquer Varujan's father. Man did I despise that guy. Talk about evil! I felt like this was a bit unique approach to vampires and the many others in this paranormal world. I think there is more to learn, so I will definitely continue with the series. Also, the narrator was really good. This was an easy book to listen too if you like audiobooks.

A new vampire series with its own history. This is book one of a series and it didn’t have a cliffhanger. It’s a light mostly enjoyable read with somewhat calm story with some spicy scenes.
I liked it but didn’t love it. But if you’re a huge fan of vampires you’ll probably be satisfied.
I chose to listen to this book on audio and really liked the narrator Ellis Evans.

A new series begins with a new world of Vampires, Fae and battles of the gods. I’m always a little skeptical to begin a new paranormal series where the mythos is all new and I will have to stretch my mind to allow another origin story in. I have been a fan of Marie Harte for a long time now so I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and picked up this series to give it a go. The mythos of this world was one that took me a bit to get the hang of, but once I did I could say that I really enjoyed the story and look forward to more, however this first story was not as focused on the romance as I would love. The story begins with a band of unlikely brothers coming together under the rule of Hecate, Goddess of death and witchcraft, and her servant who will lead the group, Mormo. The strongest of the vampires in this group is Varujan aka “Varu” and he is a grumpy SOB and when he is faced with a mystery he can’t solve it only gets worse. Out on a mission Varu encounters a sexy but deadly female who carries a weapon that could change the entire course of his life and turn the tide in a battle that he wasn’t even aware was on the horizon. Fara has been on the run for what seems like centuries, but now she is on the ultimate mission to save her life, as well as her brother’s, and she believes the only way to accomplish her goal is to get a dangerous weapon into Varu’s hands. As these two enemies turned allies have to find a way to work together to wield the weapon against the most psychotic and sadistic vampire around, the emotional draw and sensual connection becomes more and more undeniable. But will giving into it lead them to a lifetime of love or will it open the door for their enemy to defeat them both and bring about disaster? This story was one that took me a bit to really get into to be honest, mostly because the world-building was a little bit confusing and difficult to wrap my brain around at first—though I will say had I read the glossary first it might have been better. That being said I am really looking forward to the next story in the series and finding out more about the other warriors in the Night Bloode clan and seeing them kick ass as they each find their own mates.

The lovers in this story are not the typical sunshine and roses lovers that some romances get to portray; Both Fara and Varu have traveled very dark paths to get where they are today and their personalities reflect the dangers and traumas they have experienced. Varu lived through the torture and sadistic fun of living under his father’s rule for millennia and that darkness has left a stain on him for sure. But under all of that he truly is a good male and one that finds love even when he doesn’t believe he is capable of it. He has moments of laughter, solidarity, sweetness, and caring along with the animalistic passion you’d expect from such a primal male. Fara has been on her own for a long time, left to care for her brother and protect him, but he is so unstable that sometimes the job is just too much for her. The darkness she has gone through has left her cynical about life, doubtful about men, but she knows that Varu is her only hope and that putting her faith in him is her only option. Watching these two fall in love was like watching two angry lions circling one another, trying to decide if they were going to tear one another limb from limb, or become mates that would last for their entire lifetimes. I loved seeing Varu open his heart as Fara showed him that not everyone will let him down or betray his trust and Fara had her own lessons to learn before she truly understood that the only hope they had was to open her heart to Varu. While the world-building and overall battle was certainly the focus of the plot for this first book, I am happy to say that this series is off to a great beginning and I am hoping the next one exceeds my expectations and is even more enlightening. Marie Harte is on her way to another stroke of genius with her Between the Shadows series and I am happy to be along for the ride.

This barely slides by as a three star. It is one of those books that just isn’t quite bad enough to totally pan, but also isn’t anywhere near good enough to praise. The writing is readable, but not particularly impressive. The plot is thin, but manages to stay stitched together. The characters are colorful, but not particularly well fleshed out. The romance ends in a HEA, but you don’t particularly feel it develop. The world exists, but only in so much as is actually necessary for each scene (no sense of a bigger world), etc. It’s not bad. It’s just not good either.

I liked Fara and her determination to save her self and her brother. I liked the brother a lot, actually, and the other side characters were a hoot. However, Varujan was just a jerk for far too long for me to come around and like him by the end. I also thought the villain was cartoonish and defeated far too easily in a rush at the end.

All in all, I might read the next book if I found it free. But I probably wouldn’t buy it.

I enjoyed the narration. It was good.
However I did not enjoy the story itself. There was a lot of details and history that was easy to get lost in and I found myself getting bored. I wish I liked this one better but it was not for me.

Sexy vampires? Check! Sexy Elves? Check! Enough steam to get you heated? Check! Check! Check! An intriguing power struggle between man and woman, another between leaders and followers and finally one between father and son all overlaying and intwining to make an incredibly creative story to delight and entertain for hours. I must say that the narrator does an outstanding job of mesmerizing the listener so they don't want to stop listening to the book until it is finished! This is my first book from this author and I absolutely look forward to more from her especially since this book leads you to believe that there will be more stories for these characters to come! If you like strong women, even stronger men and fabulously creative paranormal stories then this is a book that you should not miss!

4.25 stars--BETWEEN BLOODE AND STONE is the first instalment in Marie Harte’s contemporary, adult BETWEEN THE SHADOWS paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is vampire Varujan (Varu) of the Crimson Veil, and dusk elf/fae Faraine ‘Fara’ de Cloche Jherag’s story line.

Told from several third person perspectives including Fara and Varu, BETWEEN BLOODE AND STONE follows Faraine ‘Fara’ de Cloche Jherag as she is tasked with retrieving the remaining Bloode Stone, a stone thought to bring the ‘owner’ immense power but her brother Onvyr’s recent activity has stirred the ire of a local vampire clan, and placed a target on the sibling duo. Enter vampire Varujan of the Crimson Veil, and the vampire with whom Fara will fall in love. What ensues is the fated relationship between Fara and Varu, and the potential fall-out as a powerful vampire sire demands the return of Fara and Onvyr, and the Bloode Stone known to be in their possession.

Varujan is a direct descendant of the Primus, the original vampire, and as such is more powerful than most. The Bloode Stones, thought to be the tears of the Primus, call to the direct descendants, and the remaining Stone is calling to our story line hero but Fara needs to protect her brother from the wrath of a vampire master, and in this, our heroine finds herself battling between head and heart, between brother and mate, when the final battle ensues. Fara is the current holder of the final Bloode Stone, but its’ rightful owner is but a heartbeat away.

The relationship between Fara and Varu is an enemies to lovers in which Fara is determined to protect her brother but in doing so is pulled towards the aura of our story line hero. Varu believes vampires do not fall in love, and in this, believes his desire to mate is based on need and lust. The $ex scenes are intimate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting character including Varu’s housemates and fellow vampires: Khent, Rolf, Kraft, Orion, and Duncan, as well as magician Mormo, housekeeper Bella, and Fara’s brother and dark elf Onvyr. The requisite evil has a familiar face.

BETWEEN BLOODE AND STONE is a complicated, complex and detailed story line that introduces the players, the history, and the background of the history of vampires, and their fight for power and control. Marie Harte pulls together several supernatural entities including vampires, fae, elves, lycan, gods, goddesses, magir and elementals, and the reveal of ten tribes of vampires all descended from the vampire Primus. Some of the story line bears a striking familiarity and resemblance to other popular vampire / shifter series, and in this, I kept waiting for the appearance of certain characters ;) . The fast paced premise is entertaining and captivating; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are fun, powerful, energetic and charismatic.

A new series from Marie Harte? Count me in! I was really looking forward to this book, especially because it’s a Paranormal Romance. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a new series that focuses on vampires and so, I was thrilled that she chosen to create a new one with delicious heroes!

As expected, there’s quite a lot of worldbuilding in this book and since this is the first book of the series, that is kind of heavy in the beginning as we get to know the characters and world. I think it’s interesting, but I’m sure more of it will be revealed as more books come out.

I liked this book, but didn’t fall in love with it immediately. After warming up to it though, I think it has some potential. So I am looking forward to the other books in the series to see if it will be a good fit for me. So far though, I think Marie Harte does a good job of writing in so many different genres. She can really do it all.

I started off with an ARC of the audiobook and became so enthralled I had to immediately purchase the e-book. The description of the book does not do it justice and I wish more people would review this book so that it could become more popular. I need someone to talk to be about this book!

Do you like a slow burn that doesn't take forever for the couple to act on their passion? Do you like novels about Fae, Elves, Vampires, Witches, Gods, Lycan, and mystical animals? Do you like romance novels with super-steamy scenes leaving you asking for more? Do you enjoy action and twisting plots? Please read this book.

Fara is a dusk elf (Fae), with an affinity to the elements, tasked with finding bloode stones and returning them to the powerful vampire she is under the control of. Varu is a vampire serving a debt to a magician with several other vampires or otherworldly beings. This group of vampires is highly unusual because their species has been cursed to not comingle with one another or it ends in extreme bloodshed/death. Moru the magician has the ability to let the vampires work together and live under the same roof.

Fara runs into Varu (accidentally on purpose) to find that the bloode stone calls out to him. They take Fara captive along with her brother Onvyr (ah'n-veer) who is emotionally unstable after suffering years of torture. Onvyr has bouts of happiness and rage that flip back and forth with no explanation to the others living in the home. Onvyr can speak with animals and draw strength and speed from the gods when needed. Fara and Varu must work together to find the truth of the bloode stone while fighting their attraction to one another. The stone pulls them together leaving Varu to question what is and isn't real between them. Can a vampire actually fall in love when he has been taught for hundreds of years they cannot?

The ending is so unexpected I gasped. Don't worry there is a HAE and now on to the next one in the series. I promise this is a must read.

Do you floss?

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. A bunch of deadly predators being forced to work together for a goal they have no clue what is. A goddess is pulling strings and is keeping everything very close the vest although she could start her own line of nail polishes. A battle cat that shows up whenever it feels like talking.

This is a completely different take on paranormal worlds. Gods and Goddesses from different pantheons Fae, Greek and all others. It was a great mix of different pantheons for the different kind of paranormal creature. I did get a bit confused with the list of different tribes and how they fit into the Primus. Started to make more sense further into the book.

We have a vampire with daddy issues and an elf that can talk to stones. They bond over a stone that can talk and control and has a bit of an attitude. Ultimately they need to all work together to rid the world of evil. Now that we have completed book one and have our HEA with the world still waiting to burn to ground I can’t wait to read the second one and see who is going to fall and how hard.

New paranormal series by Ms. Harte captures my eye. Vampires and Fae mixing together always pull my attention. This first book starts out slow. Fair warning, the first few chapters may feel a bit disjointed as a reader tries to piece together what is going on. Ms. Harte dives straight into combat and vampire try to beat each other to death.

Love this new series startup…

As a new mythology, this vampire tale ignited my imagination. It takes a while to get to know Varujan but then again he’s not admitting even to himself his true nature. Faraine is a Dusk Elf, which is totally new to me but once it is explained she and her brother Onvyr are intriguing characters. Along with a goddess, magician, a battle cat, and too many other beings to mention all passing through the New Bloode mansion I felt immersed in this world. There is an overarching storyline that keeps going but I like that at least our intrepid couple resolves their portion of the tale with an HEA that is sigh worthy.

Ok, most of these stars are just because of the vampires around Varu and Fara. They stole the show every time they were on page. Still worth it.

I've enjoyed other books by Marie, but hadn't read anything from her in this genre. I wasn't fully prepared for the depth she gives to start this series, but was so glad this wasn't another run of the mill vampire romance. Mixing in other creatures/magic/gods & goddesses led to a lot of room for world building and storyline variants that I enjoyed getting more than I bargained for. I enjoyed Varu, and Fara I think was just shy of wanted to see in character development but I suspect more of that will come in the series. I definitely want my own battle-cat after reading this though. I'd give it another quarter to half star, but that's not an option.

This was unlike any Marie Harte book I have ever read, she opens up a whole new world of vampire mythology connected to gods and goddesses and how we look at the world. As we go through the book it takes a bit to figure out where the characters stand, how they are connected, and who they are. When we bounce between scenes it takes a while to figure out who the other characters are and how they fit into the story, but once we find out who they are the rest finally makes sense. Varu and Fara fit together and they need each other to defeat their common enemy, who also happens to be Varu's father.

Through the beginning of the book I was wondering if I was going to like the book, I wasn't sure where the story was taking me but I kept with it and I am glad I did. We get to see this hard wired vampire who was taught he can't love, fall in love and fall hard. We see the rest of the characters stand behind him even though its a vampire clan and they feel as though all they have is loyalty when in fact these characters are a family. This story has many twists and turns and I cannot wait to get to know the rest of these mysterious characters better.

Loved it!!! It was a tiny bit heavy going in the beginning, learning & understanding the history, lore and characters - but persevere, it is worth it!
A great book with interesting characters, a new take on vampire origins, a horrid bad guy and romance that wins the day.
Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Big thanks to Marie Harte, Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio arc in exchange for a review.

Fara, a dusk elf (who is masquerading as a human) is in possession of something that needs to stay out of someone else's hands. The blood stone. It calls to Varu. It takes her to him.
Varu, a vampire, thrown into a new clan with other vampires he wouldn't normally be civil with needs to know who the female is. What she is.

I'm giving this one 3 stars. Maybe 3.5 stars.
The narrator was decent. They were able to voice the characters well enough to distinguish each, the accents seemed well done enough to my rarely traveled ears.

There were a few STEAMY parts, that didn't really move the story along, just fluff (I don't mind a lil' fluff ;) so not a YA, very much a NA book.

The overall vampire clan demographics were confusing. They don't get along with this and that clan, somehow a magician (not entirely sure what he was) somehow brought them all together and now they don't fight.
The synopsis of the book doesn't really follow the story. The main character isn't even mentioned, Varu has a single mention in the synopsis and Hecate is barely part of the story.
I think it would have been less confusing if it was as though the whole Mormo thing was a side story and Varu and Fara were the story, cause that's what it is. The story IS Fara and Varu, Mormo is a secondary thing. Although, I assume this will likely come together in the rest of the series.

This is a new-to-me author that a friend of mine suggested I read. For a first in a new series, it wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. There was the typical confusion at first, TONS of info/names thrown at me, and clans/patriarchs/masters to keep track of. I think if there had been a glossary at the beginning of the different clans/animals, it'd have helped some. It's essentially dual POV, but it isn't clearly stated Fara/Varu. This was a bit slow starting out but it got better once I started getting the characters sorted and wanting to see how they were going to conquer Varujan's father.

I liked Fara's character. She was sweet, loyal, compassionate, and loving. I loved her protectiveness of her brother (whom I adored and hope he gets his own story).

Varu wasn't my fave. It took forever for him to come around, and I still am unsure if I feel a connection between him and Fara or if it was more the stone's doing. I did like his protectiveness and possessiveness of her though.

All in all, this was an ok read. Would I buy the next in the series? Probably not, not unless it was free.

OK this book is amazing. I got it via this Indie author TBR take over through TikTok.

First book I’m reading out of the books that I got.

This does not disappoint this is one of the best vampire books I’ve read a really really long time.

I like the mythology it feels rich and deep end like vampire lord that doesn’t feel like it is just the same thing continuously and completely.

I read and watch a lot of vampire stuff. Not as much of the even of the night which by the way for not following her need to be really should cause she’s awesome.

But still a lot and it was just so nice to read something different and fresh and Nick.

Couple tiny tiny tiny issues it’s me kind of confusing for not paying attention who’s talking on who’s on first because of how POV switches

Overall this is amazing and I’m so thrilled that I got this as an orc.

I’m thinking about buying it for my mom ☺️

And of course all opinions are mine alone.
But I recommend this book 4 stars a solid four stars

BETWEEN BLOODE AND WOLF by Marie Harte is book 4 of the Between the Shadows series but can be read as a stand-alone.

I don't read much paranormal/vampire/shifter books, but I love Marie Harte's contemporary romance so I thought I'd give this a try. I'm glad I did because this book has it all! A missing artifact—check. A lycan war—check. A hot vampire—check, check, check. Added to this, a sorcerer casting illegal death magic made for a real page-turner.

Berserker Riley Foster is sent to search for her pack’s stolen artifact, which is all in a day's work. But to complicate matters, she’s forced to work alongside a powerful vampire named Kraft. He's not just any old vampire, he's a brooding, off-the-charts sexy one.

As Kraft and Riley work to find the missing artifact, they must fight crazed vampires and lycans. Kraft's admiration for her courage and strength grows. He is also drawn to her beauty, and he's determined to claim her as his own.

This is a roller coaster ride of fantasy, suspense, and romance that I couldn't put down. I highly recommend this book.

I found this to be a relatively entertaining new vampire series. I liked the background history on the different vampires and their origins as well as the fae. I thought it had some originality within a genre where that's quite difficult.

I'm always game for a paranormal romance with vampires, werewolves, witches and more. So, this was completely in my wheelhouse. It took me a bit to connect to the main characters though. I think that was intentional since they are both a intentionally resistant to others as a protective mechanism. Of course, we do have the vampire who finds the woman whose blood is irresistible and thus so is she. That's a little typical of the genre, but I still fall prey to it myself every time. Overall, a satisfying storyline and strong start to a new series.

I chose to listen to the audiobook via NetGalley and found it to be quite enjoyable. The narrator was talented and kept me engrossed in the story. Narration can make or break an audiobook. Either it will pull you in or put you off. This narrator kept wanting to listen.

Vary is with kin he can't stand in payment of a blood debt. But when a stone and a fae enter his world can he grow to love?
Between Blood and Stone is the first in a new series by Marie Harte. I must admit the premise of this series is interesting. And Ms. Harte needs to give us quite a bit of background while building this world. I while I enjoyed meeting this group I will admit that it was a bit slow. But once it picked up it really picked up.
I enjoyed seeing Varu learn that vampires can feel emotions. And Fara was not nearly as sneaky as she thought she was. But together Varu and Fara were something special. Their journey was full of unexpected twists as they fought themselves and each other. Learning to trust was difficult for them both but would it happen too late to save them? Finding out was half the battle and the fun. I can't wait to see where Ms. Harte will take us next in this new world she is creating.

Between Bloode and Stone is the first book in the Between the Shawdows series by Marie Harte. I listened to the audiobook version and loved it!

This book starts off a little slow, while it sets the scene and creates a new world, and is so worth getting into! I loved absolutely loved the world the author created! Vampires, Fae, Hecate! What more could I ask for?!?

This story was masterfully woven and the narration by Ellis Evans was captivating! The intrigue, the romance, the battles! Wow!!!

I loved that this book ended with closure and still kept me wanting more! I can't wait to read what comes next!

Not impressed

So I guess I could call this a decent book. This is the first book in the series so as usual most of the book is spent explaining the story and less on the relationships that are beginning. It seemed as if towards the end of the book we start learning about your two MC's. Sometimes throughout the book things would move super slow to then super fast in a matter of one paragraph in between. Not gonna lie hating the ending, its almost as if the author had to rush the ending. Also I didn't like the idea of the gods throughout the book and not just one god but from all religions. That part didn't make sense to me. I skipped portions I got so bored. Not worth it to me.

A world of mythology and vampires

A pretty good start to a series.

Fara is a dusk elf trying to save her brother, a dark elf, from an evil, maniacal vampire patriarch aka leader. Varu is said evil, maniacal vampire patriarchs son paying off a blood debt. Hecate brings them together to save the world with their love.

There was a lot of world building. I was confused about the blood lines. The word patriarch was used repeatedly. Towards the end though it all played out well. I would recommend. I might continue the series. Unsure…. The vampires in the tribe were somewhat annoying. They might grow as characters.

A solid plot with interesting characters, good development, believable chemistry, and playful banter. I loved the premise and how the author crossed multiple belief systems and mythologies together. It wasn't a difficult story to follow by any means, but the names were a lot to keep up with.
I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator was splendid. His accents were enjoyable, and his inflection followed the context flawlessly. At times I forgot it was just one person reading.
The spice was minimal, but powerful.
I'd probably recommend this book to a friend. I hope I'll get around to finishing the series.
