Letter Late Than Never

Can a hot paramedic resuscitate this mail woman’s flatlining spirit of adventure?

Gwen Elsmere fell in love with Sebastian Kirkwood when she was sixteen, but a dead frog stole her chance to land the guy of her daydreams. Ten years later, when Gwen makes a desperate 9-1-1 call, Sebastian re-enters her life as the first paramedic on the scene. Unfortunately, she’s smeared in blood, and he’s engaged to another woman. The awkward rescue is far from the passionate reunion she’d secretly hoped for. Still, Gwen’s brief transformation from postal worker to neighborhood hero has her reevaluating her cautious nature.

If she can save a woman’s life, why can’t she change her own?

As Gwen challenges herself with adventures, big and small, she discovers an unlikely sidekick in her former crush. Sebastian reveals glimpses of the goofy teenager who first made her swoon, but there are shadows behind his eyes she wants to shine a light on. When Gwen discovers the sexy EMT is not as spoken for as everyone in Green Valley believes, she dares to hope for a second chance to risk her heart. But even as a chemist cat, drag queens, and glitter beards reward her new outgoing nature, secrets, pain, and fear threaten to snuff out her courageous spirit.

Gwen will have to decide if Sebastian and she are better late than never or better never together.

‘Letter Late Than Never’ is a full-length contemporary romance and can be read as a standalone. Book #3 in the Green Valley Heroes series, Green Valley Chronicles, Penny Reid Book Universe.

We're back in Green Valley with a paramedic and a mail carrier and I am HERE FOR IT. Seriously, I like this place. There's just so much going on.

So. Gwen and Sebastian. A horrible incident with frogs (long story!) had Gwen miss her chance in high school to ask Sebastian out. They grew up and grew apart and that probably would have been that. Except, Sebastian's back in Green Valley and the very sight of him still makes her heart go pitter-patter. Too bad he's engaged and this thing can never go anywhere, right?

Welllll...turns out Sebastian's slightly less than engaged. In fact, he's not engaged at all. Sure, everybody thinks he is (including his not-fiancé's parents), but he's not. Really. So while he's technically free and clear to date Gwen, the good people of GV aren't so aware. Which causes a few issues. Some of which came about because Gwen was trying to protect her heart. NO WORRIES, though! These two figure things out eventually and get where they need to be.

Anywho. A fun weekend trip, a show featuring some fantastic drag queens, glitter, steamy kisses, and a second chance at coupledom for the paramedic and the mail carrier. *thumbs up*

SO GOOD!!!! 🥵😍🥰 Letter Late than Never, Lauren Connolly’s recent addition to the Green Valley Heroes series is part of the Penny Reid Winston Universe! I’ve only read the first Winston Brothers book so far (Truth or Beard), but this book serves as a standalone with several cameos from the beloved locals.

Gwen is a mail carrier for Green Valley, and Sebastian is a paramedic. They’ve both had feelings for each other since high school, but a biology class frog-tastrophe got in the way of Gwen making her big move and she’s been avoiding him ever since. Seeing each other again takes them right back to their bantering ways, as well as brings back old feelings. Both Gwen and Sebastian are at a crossroads in grieving their past paths while figuring out what the future holds for each of them.

I loved this story from beginning to end. Sebastian is a top-tier book boyfriend – he cares so much about the people around him, definitely to a fault when it comes to ending his engagement to his ex-fiance Elaine. Gwen also has to learn to trust people in her life after losing her grandmother. The spice in this book had my cheeks blazing (the consent - “Tell me to stop… before I can’t” I mean PHEW how hot is that?!) and was so emotional. The excerpts from the letters and postcards at the beginning of each chapter added some extra love to the story along the way. And, to top it all off – Sebastian is a cat daddy. Say less, amirite?

Thank you @laurenconnollyromance for the eARC – all opinions are my own.

First time reading author. The writing was decent. I was just so incredibly bored. Nothing caught my interest. I kept putting it down and starting a new book. I think I read 3 books from the time I started to the time I finished.

It was way too long and drawn out. Not enough meat. I did enjoy Sebastian’s brother and the drag Queen show. Their time in Nashville was probably the most entertaining.

The hero was a little weak for me. He’s engaged to his fiancé (technically) for the majority of the book. He lets her dictate when she wants to let her parents, etc. know they called the wedding off. Then him and Gwen finally get together and he wants to keep her a secret.

I also liked Gwen’s brother. His postcards at the beginning of each chapter were fun. I wouldn’t mind a book for him. But please let it be more entertaining and fast paced. And shorter!

I wouldn’t recommend this one.

Letter Late Than Never is a great addition to the Smartypants Romance/Green Valley world. Gwen and Sebastian didn't get together in high school after a frog incident, but now they have a second chance.

I really loved the dual POV here. It was nice getting to see each of them through the others eyes as their relationship developed and they spent time together. There're some great banter and fun moments that really showed how well matched the two of them are.

Lauren's writing is engaging and easy to read, and I was hooked from the very beginning of the story. I can't wait to read more of her books. The audiobook is also worth a listen. It has really nice dual narration.

Thank you to Smartypants Romance and the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

Sebastian comes back to town and Gwen can't help the return of the feelings she had for him as a teen. He's off limits though and engaged to his high school sweetheart. In an attempt to become more adventurous, Gwen can't stop running into Sebastian every where she goes.
The beginning was so strong - loved the small town setting, the cameos from other smartypants books I've read, the fun roadtrip - but it petered out and I didn't enjoy the second half as much as I wanted to. I struggled with both of their lack of willingness to pursue a relationship, Gwen's blaming/insistence on Sebastian returning to his ex, and his refusal to officially break it off with his ex.
Thanks to the author for the advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.

Never a good sign when I'm more invested in finding the next nonsensical reference to flamingos in the belly (I guess the authors attempt at finding a cutesy alternative to butterflies?) than the actual romance.

DNF 41% - I started a stopped a dozen times but the main characters were boring and the story was far to slow paced for my liking.

I love the series, but this was a miss for me.

This was an endearingly sweet, heartfelt, and thoroughly enjoyable read. I love most visits to Green Valley via Penny Reid’s guest authors, but this latest installment by Lauren Connolly was so perfect. Filled with so much mutual pining and small town charm, I smiled almost the entire way through Sebastian and Gwen’s story. I also loved how well Lauren incorporated encounters with familiar Green Valley characters in ways that felt effortless rather than superfluous or unnatural as I’ve found in some previous guest author books in the Penny Reid universe.

If you like friends-to-lovers, second chance romance, and a small town setting, this hits every mark.

This was as adorable and funny as it is hearing Fuck a Fuck from a beautiful postal worker. So cute when she squeaks the first word and the next one is way too low. Very believable I loved this story - so smart and well written.

don’t stop!

This book! I have been laughing out loud and blushing like crazy and squealing and ahhh.
Oh, this book!
The postcards cracked me up.
I highlighted a whole page of the book because it make me laugh so much.
Sebastian is just a such a darling and he helps highlight vulnerability in men and there are some clear important points. But they come with humor.
Gwen, again she has vulnerabilities and as is human nature doesn’t always react in the right way to things. But together they are sweet and adorable and what I would give for a love like theirs.
Such a well written lovely book that I would recommend to friends (not family because the smut is on fire and to know my mother is reading that is just not ok…😂)

This was a wonderful addition to the Green Valley Heroes series in the SmartyPants Romance Universe. It had some of the best banter and silly situations that I love in a rom-com. Not to mention the random tidbits here and there, like about male duck genitalia, something that once I learned about I could never get out of my head again.

Both of our main characters had such hilarious personalities and also great family members and friends that added to this world perfectly as well. I loved Sebastian’s brother that they visited in Nashville. His sister was a great addition to the story, at times totally moving the plot along, and the meet up with his parents when Gwen was buying stuff at their store and Sebastian had the kitten in the story was cute as well. Gwen also had a funny brother, his basically life-long grudge about missing out on a piece of pie was hilarious. We also got a lot of little walk-on time with beloved Green Valley characters too.

For the most part all of the characters’ issues fell into place and fit the puzzle perfectly to come to the right solution. The ending of one chapter at the end though was a perfect way to keep me on my toes, with a misleading bit of a cliffhanger, fade out before starting the next chapter. I was a little irritated with Gwen thinking Sebastian might actually be getting back with his ex after all they’d talked about. But I do really like the way they worked it out in the end.

The narrators for this story were great, both made their characters come alive. Highly recommend this one and look forward to reading more by this author in the future!

loved it

I loved Sebastian and Gwen. There was so much depth in both of these characters. Both have been through something that has changed them and not really for the better. I like how it was the female suffering the most . Most of the time in books it’s the female looking to the male for comfort but not here . I enjoyed that about this book . For me this book is a must read.

How is this a romance if he refuses to break up with his ex yet keeps flirting with the fmc and gets jealous over her. then when they finally get together he wants to keep her a secret
Am i missing something ?
It wasn't a total flop the vibe of the small town was actually amazing and the 2 stars if for that alone because the characters especially the fmc were very dull

5/5🎧 1.5/5🌶️

Be still my younger self’s poor lil heart. The empathy for these pining MCs is strong. Gwen has an adventurous heart. Gwen longs to pursue grand adventures dreamed, but not yet realized. Sebastian Kirkwood is another symbol of unfulfilled dreams and Gwen’s one who got away. Fate divided the once best friends…or was it frogs. I loved this hot EMT and kind-hearted mail carrier love story! Gwen and Sebastian are delightful as they rekindle their friendship and admit their lingering feelings. The pining, the hijinks, the drag show, the postcard chapter breaks, I was here for ALL of it! I was cracking up at Gwen’s adorkable, totally relatable awkwardness. Sebastian’s kindness was swoon-worthy and his fierce loyalty was admirable. I cheered hard when these two finally got together in this slow-burn, friends-to-lovers, endearing romance.

Ryan Lee Dunlap and Amanda Stribling were amazing as Sebastian and Gwen! I have been a big fan of Amanda’s work for a while now and I adored her performance of Gwen’s quirky, lovably awkward, sweet as pie character. Ryan has skyrocketed to the top of my favorite narrator list recently, and Sebastian is my favorite character he’s voiced to-date. Gwen and Bass are two of the most down-to-earth, compassionate, adorable characters I’ve read. If you like small-town, swoony, relatable, spicy romance, check out Letter Late Than Never! It was my first book by Lauren Connolly, but it certainly won’t be my last.

Gwen missed her chance with Sebastian in high school. Ten years later, hot paramedic Sebastian is back in Green Valley. Could everyone’s favorite mail carrier Gwen have a second chance with her dream man?

I really enjoyed my first book by Lauren Connolly. Letter Late Than Never is part of the Green Valley Heroes series set in the Penny Reid universe. It's book three but a complete standalone.

I loved the mutual pining of these high school friends who never told each of their feelings. Well, Gwen had planned to, but there was the whole unfortunate incident with dead frogs. 😔 I was definitely cheering for these two as they re-established their friendship and then finally acted on their feelings.

While this small-town romance is full of subtle humor and some steam, it touches on some serious topics like grief and anxiety too. These topics are seamlessly weaved into the story giving it a depth that I appreciated. Gwen and Sebastian are genuinely good people facing real and relatable life challenges.

Letter Late Than Never is also full of wonderful side characters. I loved Sebastian’s siblings, Kennedy and Cameron. They were there to give him support and a nudge in the right direction when needed. And Sebastian’s relationship with Cameron was so heartwarming.

If you’re looking for a feel-good romance that will make you smile while you read, Letter Late Than Never is for you.

I received a gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️

Gwen and Sebastian's story is an amazing addition to the Green Valley world and I wish it never had to end! It's incredibly sweet and funny, but also really pulled at the heartstrings more than a few times, and you can't help but root for both Gwen and Seb as they deal with some serious and heartbreaking issues such as anxiety and loss of a grandparent.

So often the main characters in romance books are of the "opposites attract" trope, but in this one I felt like Gwen and Seb were very similar, both sunshine/sunshine, and I really loved that change of pace for me. I thought that they were just perfect for each other regardless, and although everything works out for the best, I felt so sad that maybe they would've been together since high school if things had worked out differently. Those darn frogs!! There were times when I felt like I should be frustrated with Seb, but I just couldn't even find it in myself to be upset because he is just so sweet with the very best of intentions.

One of the best things about these Green Valley books is reconnecting with some of my favorite characters, and by favorite I mean Cletus Winston, so I sure did appreciate the funny little snippets I got to see of him! Green Valley feels like another home to me and always leaves me with all the happy feels, and the story of the town's mail carrier and paramedic was no different!

Letter Late Than Never is book three in the Green Valley Heroes series, though it can be read as a standalone. There are a lot of Green Valley cameos though so that might get a little weird if you are not already very familiar with this world.

This is a friends to lovers romance about Gwen and Sebastian, who liked each other in high school but the timing wasn’t right. They meet again as adults, and start having feelings for each other all over again, only Sebastian is involved with another woman. Or is he?

It was a lot of fun, despite some serious issues it retained a lighthearted feel. The writing was easy breezy and engaging, and I loved the side characters, especially Sebastian’s siblings. There is good pining, good mental health rep, and I loved the detail about Sebastian wearing pink and his reason why.

I really loved the first two in the series and unfortunately this one didn’t quite measure up for me. Sebastian wasn’t as strong of a leading man for me as the first two, in fact I was kind of annoyed with him the whole time for putting both himself and Gwen in the situation they were in. The constant Green Valley references distracted from the plot. I enjoy a cameo or two but it seemed like the author was trying to cram as many in as they could.

Overall it was a good read, just not my favorite.

Wow! Once I started, could not put it down.
I absolutely LOVED this story.
From the minute I started reading I could not put it down.
Stayed up till 3am to finish it, even the next day this story has stayed with me.
For me, these were characters that I could relate to and could imagine myself in their shoes at times.
Did I tell you I loved it…. This book really did touch me.

The story was so beautifully written, funny, heartbreaking, feelings of hope, despair, some sexy times and love all in one package.
Centring around Green Valley Tennesse, home of postwoman Gwen Elsmere and hunky bearded paramedic Sebastian Kirkwood.
Sebastian, a man with a heart of gold who truly cares and will stand by you when needed. Placing himself in an awkward position to do what he thinks is the right thing even if it’s detrimental to him. Attracted to Gwen.
Gwen, single, loved by the townspeople, a gorgeous human being inside and out, has had a crush on Sebastian since grade and high school. Her one chance of asking Sebastian out years ago was thwarted and she has never forgotten it.
Aargh, for the what if’s.
This is the story of their chance at happiness, if they can just sort their lives out.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

We head back to Green Valley, my most favorite place, for the next book in the Green Valley Heroes Series. Lauren Connelly is a new to me author and I really enjoyed her writing style and this book.

Gwen is the local mail carrier, hasn’t ventured too far away from home but is looking for a new adventure. She’s had a secret crush on the local paramedic for years but knows it can’t go any further because of his engagement. Kicking herself over and over for the last chance at telling him how she feels.

Sebastian - swoony Sebastian - he’s is so charming, kind and never wants to hurt anyone’s feelings. His kindness has him in a bit of a mess right now, there are secrets that are keeping him from acting on a crush with the local mail carrier.

I adore these two characters and their comfort level with one another. They are easy going, great humans but the secrets are keeping them from being honest with one another. Once the truth comes out, they share their feelings for one another and begin to trust…it’s turns into an epic romance filled with adventures.

Letter Late than Never by Lauren Connolly

I seriously loved this book. I am not sure if it was because it was a high crush. Or whether it was the fact that Gwen was so awkward. Or the fact that the hero was so swoony. Okay, maybe all of the above.

Also, this is the first book I have read where the hero or heroine is a mail person. And I loved this aspect. Oh and one of my favorite scenes was at a drag show. So there is that. Gwen and Sebastian were friends in high school. She had the biggest crush and planned on inviting him to a dance. A missed day in school and someone beat her too it. And now, Sebastian is engaged and back in Green Valley. But where is his fiancé?

I adore the back and forth with the hero and heroine. I really just can’t love Sebastian has the hero. He is beyond sweet and so precious to her. Thank you Lauren Connolly for the ARC. It was a top book for me!

This was a wonderful, sweet read!

Gwen Elsmere and Sebastian Kirkwood haven't seen one another in ten years. They were once high school biology buddies. There was mutual attraction but nothing ever came of their friendship. Now, he's back in Green Valley and they can't stop thinking about each other. However, things are not so simple.

Gwen and Sebastian had my heart! The longing between them made me yearn. I adored awkward, quirky Gwen. I swooned over gorgeous Sebastian who was crazy over Gwen. This was a perfect story about two perfectly-matched people. Loved it!

19.01.25: Did a re-read of this one and loved it just as much as the first time! I forgot how sexy these two were, but definitely remembered that they were made for each other!

4.5 🌟s! I loved this second chance romance! A frog accident kept them apart in high school, but nothing is going to keep these two away from each other now, Even the misconception that Sebastian is still engaged to his high school sweetheart.

This is zero parts a love triangle though, Sebastian only has eyes for Gwen. I love that this was dual POV because I could not get enough of the mutual pining. These two were just the best and their banter totally made me laugh. Loved that they were so supportive of each other and neither had to hide parts of them that they thought others might not understand.

Loved LGBTQ+ rep with Sebastian and his ode to pink and the positive mental health messages. The spice was spot on with Connolly’s ability to make consent sexy!

Looking forward to more!

I received this from the amazing Smartypants. It was such a great listen.

It's about Gwen and Sebastian. I hope I'm spelling it right, lol. I listened to the audiobook! And they were great narrators. He had a great southern accent and her voice was unique. And southern.

Gwen and Sebastian have known each other from high school. There was a little flirtation going around but circumstances changed and they haven't interacted in years. Years. Both are really great characters. I felt a lot for Gwen (acne and missed opportunities? 😢) who's been living a quiet life in their hometown.

When Sebastians situation changes though, what's going to happen? Will things stay the same?

Loved the sibling relationships, the kitten, AND the turn around that Gwen made for herself!
