Demons play tricks.

This fact has been pounded into eight-year-old Zevadiah Stoll’s head. When he’s tasked with his first solo hunt, he knows to be wary. He’ll either emerge victorious, or he’ll die.

But his target isn’t clear.

Zevadiah thinks the wolfish boy he discovers is a victim. He refuses to heed the signs: the boy’s feral nature, the cut on his cheek that heals before Zevadiah’s eyes. Zevadiah simply doesn’t want to kill the boy, and he doesn’t.

That decision changes his life forever.

Zevadiah isn’t the hunter he’s supposed to be, and memories of the boy haunt him fifteen years later. Their next meeting is inevitable. Zevadiah intends to free himself by whatever means necessary, but Fate has a different plan.

Hunter x Wolf is a gay (MM) paranormal romance with spice and that urban fantasy flair. Zevadiah is a human and a hunter with an ironically kind heart. Kenji is a fun-loving wolf shifter who’s sure to make you smile. And, of course, they’re Soulmates.

If you like your romance built on top of a world of magic and a healthy helping of action, then you’re in the right place.

Intended for readers 18+.

While By the Matchmaker Witch is a series, each book works as a standalone and will have an HEA. However, to avoid any spoilers, it would be best to read this series in order.

They are also an artist and animator, as well as a singer, songwriter, and voice actor. One day they swear they’re going to make their own video game, too.

If it involves creating, they are there.

They can also be seen cuddling their cat, reading, or playing video games.

You know what? I liked it. I enjoyed it. And I am even going to give it four stars because this low rating feels so unfair considering all the average reads that get four stars.

Fated mates done right is a hard thing to pull off, in the end - same goes for opening the book with a child's POV. Well, as much as an 8-year-old boy hunting werewolves could be considered a kid. In fact, this book had more than a few things that should or could have rubbed me the wrong way and it was instead handled so well. There's just enough of an instant connection to fit the genre, just enough plot not to overshadow the romance, just enough information to give you a fair idea of the world (without the annoying info-dumps so many books prefer) and just enough action to keep you moving.

It's no masterpiece but I would actually argue it is far from average... or maybe it just really fits my personal preferences, which is an accomplishment in itself, considering how many books get rejected within the first few pages.

Such a shame the rest of the books are all straight. I so dislike women struck dumb by handsome love interests I feel I'd rather not ruin this experience.

Recommend.

Hunter

This book turned out to be a pleasant surprise for me! It is actually good. Zevadiah and Kenji are the two main characters. Zevadiah Stoll comes from a family of demon hunters. They hunt shifters. One his first hunt at eight years old, Zevadiah saves Kenzie from a feral wolf shifter. Kenji heals from the attack and Zevadiah is supposed to kill him as well but he scares him away. Fifteen years pass and Zevadiah still hunts but he does not kill indiscriminately. Kenji is working to make sure shifters are safe. But the two men meet again where they met first time. The two men have feelings for each other but Zevadiah still has to overcome his upbringing and Kenji must reign in his enthusiasm over having met Zevadiah and getting to know him. There is an evil that is after both men. But only working together can they overcome it.

I DNF around 75%

The only way I can really explain what was wrong was a total lack of depth, the characters, events and over all story just lack depth.
There was no real world building, all we know about the world is that it exists and there’s humans and shifters and witches. We get a brief “story” about the main character’s ancestors but that’s it.
Things happen to the MC and he just goes “well that’s how it is now, I will never be the same because I’ve made a decision” like legit one of the narrated passages was exactly that.

It just felt very shallow over all. I think the idea/ premise if the story has potential it just needs to be fleshed out more.

I surprisingly liked this a lot! Actually we’ll fleshed out story and decent length! Fated mates is sometimes very “cliche” but I actually liked this one the author had some nice twists and takes on things which added just a bit of “different” to the book - I really liked that! Also I feel like the past and future element was pretty cool! I could follow it well and it keeps you guessing and wondering about the plot and certain characters!

I liked the writing style and the flow of the story was good, I finished it in one day! <3

Fantastic Read

This was a very different take on human/shifter fated mates, and I really loved it. I admired the author’s style of writing and the story she told with it. Kenji and Zevadiah’s story is unique among other shifter stories I’ve read, and this fact makes the story stronger.

I’m hoping/assuming there will be a Book 2? Seems like a cliffhanger to me, and when it appears, I’ll devour it like I did this book!

2.5 stars-- It was just starting to get interesting when it ended, and it's implied the next book in the series doesn't follow this couple. I wanted to know this couple better and see them taking the hunter family down.

good but

It felt unfinished like there should be a part 2 because we don’t get to see how the stoll family gets taken down.
