Welcome back to Hope Street Church, where friendships are formed, fresh starts are encouraged, and mysteries are solved . . .

The Hope Street Community Theater is staging It’s a Wonderful Life as a fundraiser, and Cooper and the Bible study group are all taking part. They’ve also managed to land the help of a famous Broadway director who’s trying to clean up his image after a scandal, and he travels to Richmond along with his star actress and staff. But the director’s entourage epitomize the worst of theater personalities, with petty grievances and jealousies stirring up more drama off the stage than on. And when the assistant director is found murdered in her hotel suite, the list of possible suspects is longer than a red carpet.

Unwilling to stand by with a murderer in their midst, Cooper and her friends get to work ferreting out clues and surveilling the staff, including a dangerously inept set technician as well as the director’s current and former love interests. Despite inexplicable and terrifying stage “accidents” threatening to derail their investigation and the play, the intrepid amateur sleuths know the show must go on. Their only prayer is to set a trap and successfully catch a killer before it’s curtains for Cooper . . .

Methods of Malice is a fun read. It is the 7th book of the Hope Street Church Mysteries. The story takes place in Richmond, Virginia. There are 6 members in this study group. Cooper Lee, Trisha Tyler, Bryant Shelton, Quinton Enderly, Jake Lombardi and Savannah Knapp who is the leader of the Sunshine Bible group. They are putting on It's a Wonderful Life at the Hope Street Community Theatre for a fundraiser for the senior center. Trisha through her sorority sister, Laura Champagne, assistant to director, Simon Doyle to do their play.. He wanted to help with the play to get him back to the public's good graces after an affair with an actress. All the bible study group are in and working for the production, He arrives with his staff as well as actress Jasmine Ryan who he brought in for the lead. There are all the supporting characters that add to the story.

The rehearsals have mishaps that start the story on an adventure that leads to the death of Reginia McAllister, assistant director and Simon's ex-wife. The study group decides to find out who killed her. There is so much that is going on in the story that I will leave it to the reader to enjoy to the exciting climax. The story ends with the study group having their last meeting for the year with a prayer. There is throughout the story bible quotes at their meetings.

Thank you NetGalley and Beyond The Page Books Publishing for this ARC.

This is the first book I've read in this series and it is the seventh book. I thought it was interesting that a Bible Study Group solves murders - kind of surprising to me.

Here's the description:
"The Hope Street Community Theater is staging It’s a Wonderful Life as a fundraiser, and Cooper and the Bible study group are all taking part. Their only prayer is to set a trap and successfully catch a killer before it’s curtains for Cooper . ."

Cooper Lee is the ringleader in the investigation. I found this to be a good Christian cozy and I enjoyed it. It was easily read as a stand alone. Some of the characters were fun. I enjoyed the drama going on in the theater. I picked the book up because I love Ellery Adams books in general.

Thanks to Beyond the Page Publishing through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on March 14, 2023.

What a page-turner! I loved it!

I was so captivated by the characters and the mystery they found themselves involved with, I couldn’t read this book fast enough. The Sunrise Bible study group of Hope Street Church is performing in a community play to fund a new bus for the local senior center. A famous director is offering his talent to the production, bringing along his entourage. When one of the theater ensemble members is found deceased, all kinds of questions arise.

The sleuthing is intriguing. Between the plot twists and various possibilities to consider, I enjoyed trying to figure out the who-done-it solution. I especially loved the interaction of the characters as faithful friends and encouragers. With the developing romance between Cooper and Jon, I’m eager to find out about their future.

And with a chef and a caterer in the story, the foodie details are the icing on the cake…literally! I need a teatime break with a Magnolia Lee treat. Psst….there are recipes at the end of the book.

If you love a good mystery…the cozy type…with fascinating characters, you will also be captivated while reading Methods of Malice by Ellery Adams and Tina Radcliffe. I highly recommend this book!

Favorite quotes:
“We’re here to equip ourselves with the Word so that we can deal with the challenges of another week in the world.”
“This week, let our focus be prayer. … Allowing our prayers to overflow with joy as we focus on others instead of ourselves.”

Hmmm… this wasn’t my cuppa tea.

I do enjoy cosy mysteries and such, but this just fell flat on its face.

I did like the main character, but that’s about it.
The mystery was not intriguing, the resolution left me wanting some excitement and was so obvious it wasn’t fun.

The book kept mentioning Jessica Fletcher, which is heartwarming and nice, but they would also learned a thing or two form the aforementioned books and tv episodes.

Also it was heavy on Christianity but I suppose I should have gleaned that from this bunch being a bible study group.

Thank you for the ARC, NetGalley!

It’s so good to have this series back! I love Cooper and her friends from Bible Study and enjoy the short sections of scripture; the religion aspect is an important part in how they all came to be together and the lessons from the Bible are tied in nicely without being preachy. The mystery was well plotted and, though I figured out who did it early on (I seem to be getting better at this!), it did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. The real bonus of this series is the relationships between the characters and the way they support each other. I am so excited for the direction that Cooper’s life is taking and can’t wait to see how this changes things.

I received a copy from #NetGalley for an honest review.

I enjoyed revisiting Cooper and the Sunrise Bible study group with all its variety of amusing characters. The group can't resist pulling out their sleuthing skills when the fundraiser they are involved in, a production of It's a Wonderful Life, ends up with a murderer in their midst.

Cooper is smart with math and machinery but clueless when it comes to relationships, so it was great to see her and Jon move a bit closer to boyfriend girlfriend status. I love that he's a chef and constantly after her mom Maggie's recipes. It was fun to read all the food references and the recipes shared at the book's end. Grammy Lee is a hoot with her outspoken opinionated ways.

Methods of Malice is a clever mystery full of twists and turns that'll leave readers amused and guessing from one suspect to another while trying to solve the murder case. I hope we get to read more books in this series especially about Cooper and Jon.
I appreciate Beyond the Page Publishing via NetGalley making a copy of Methods of Malice available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.

A Christian Cozy mystery that is worth the time to get immersed in. I'll be the first to admit that I am not a deeply religious person and typically find that religious based books or series are not my cup of tea. However, this series is really well done and wraps scripture in without coming across as judgmental or preachy. The religion solidifies the group of friends and connects them in a way that makes their need to find the truth and get justice more believable. Ellery Adams happens to be a favorite author of mine so this series became another for me to devour and enjoy. The author writes believable characters, strong plots and fun twists while in this case wrapping it around the bible studies of the bible group that are the main characters. This is a Christian series that is done well and should allow most readers to enjoy whether religion is their cup of tea or not!

Thank you NetGalley and Beyond the Page Publishing for accepting my request to read and review Methods of Malice.

Too sweet for me. This read like a Hallmark Movie. I was disappointed from the beginning. I do think this would be a nice place to start for a young reader headed towards adult books.

There are biblical references and bible study is attended. There wasn't enough depth to the characters or story line for me. There was no swearing.

I would recommend for young readers. (2.5 stars)

Methods of Malice is the first book I’ve read in A Hope Street Church Mystery series by Tina Radcliffe and Ellery Adams.
I enjoyed the characters and despite the fact I began this series on the seventh book, the story was written so I connected with the characters, making it was easy to jump into this story.
The local community theater is performing It’s A Wonderful Life. A famous Broadway director and his people come to town to take charge of the play. The tension between the director and his people builds until the assistant director turns up dead. Besides digging into Scripture, Cooper Lee and the members of the Bible study dig into the murder, and look for clues.
In addition to pressure from the performance, there’s pressure to catch the killer before he, or she, strikes again.
Methods of Malice is a page turner and a delight.

An enjoyable visit with The Hope Street Bible study class. A perfect read to get you in the fall holiday spirit. We start out at Halloween time and end at Christmas. Thanksgiving is even represented for a few pages.

The Bible study group tries out for roles in the local production of It’s a Wonderful Life. A hot shot director as agreed to direct the play which has the group excited. Maybe if the play is successful enough the senior center can get the bus that will transport shut in’s to the place of worship. Unfortunately, the battle ax assistant to the director is murdered. Can Cooper solve the murder before joining Clarence Odbody in the heavenly sky?

A clean cozy mystery with faith and scripture sprinkled throughout.

While this is part of a series of Christian cozy mysteries, it could be read as a standalone novel. The faith element is woven in and isn't overpowering. Cooper is a likeable character, and you can't help but root for her. Jon is a good match for her. There are enough twists to keep the reader guessing. Fun characters, a solid mystery, and a hint of romance combine for a quick, enjoyable read.

Cooper and her friends found themselves entwined in a murder mystery that was captivating and intriguing. A Christian, cozy murder mystery that was exciting, intriguing, and captivating. Although the main character Cooper, was a little too naive, this book still had my attention until the end.

This isn’t my cup of tea. I’ve read and enjoyed series by Ellery Adams before, but this just isn’t cutting it for me. Apart from the fact it’s a Christian cosy, I’m struggling to connect to any of the characters (the problem with jumping into an already established series), and it’s not moving very quickly.

Everything feels a bit too Nice, even the dialogue, so I’m bowing out at 33%.

I’m obviously in a minority here, so there are plenty of folks who love this sub-genre. I just like things a bit more snappy.

The Sunshine Bible group is putting on a well-known play to raise funds for the local community center and have secured the help of a well-known director and his entourage. There is the expected friction, but the murder is unexpected. It's a cute story interspersed with Bible quotes and information about performances in little theatre.
Great worldbuilding and solid character development.

Cooper and her Bible Study get swept into a colorful web of mystery and murder when they join a production of It's a Wonderful Life.

An engaging read from the start with a full cast of well developed and distinct characters paired with a engrossing plot that kept me guessing. I loved this book from the minute I picked it up, catching up with Cooper and her friends as they work to unravel the murder while dealing with some larger than life personalities.

It had been a while since I read the last book, and I had no problem just jumping right in. There is a lot going on, but I had no troubles keeping it all straight. I liked the the interaction between the characters as well as the relationship between the sisters.

Overall, this was an engaging read, filled with mystery, faith, and humor. Highly recommend this wholesome and engaging cozy mystery!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Brought to you by OBS reviewer Andra

Ellery Adams is one of my go to favorite authors for cozy mysteries. At this point in time, I have read nine of her books from the following different series: Secret, Book & Scone Society, Antiques & Collectibles Mysteries, Supper Club Mysteries, Book Retreat Mysteries and the Hope Street Church Mystery series. And I am happy to report – that I have enjoyed all that I have read… especially this title, Methods of Malice.

The members of the Sunrise Bible study group have been cast in various roles for the Hope Street Community Theater’s performance of It’s a Wonderful Life. What is truly unique for this particular production is that the theater group has snagged a director from Broadway (who by the way is trying to expunge his bad reputation) along with his star actress and staff. One would hope that all goes smoothly (or at least as smoothly as little theater can) but of course – there are a series of accidents and a murder!

The gang from the bible study group decide (of course) that for the show to go on, they must help the police solve the crime. What ensues is an entertaining tale fraught with leads that lead no where and ongoing rehearsals. Numerous twists and turns and I for one, was thoroughly entertained…even chuckling a number of times (and yes – I know murder is no laughing matter).

What does happen is that after following, questioning, sleuthing…by every member of the Sunrise Bible study group… every possible suspect… they have varying degrees of success and solve the mystery (at almost the same time as the local police department). It was a fun journey which kept this reader entertained… and for a new reader – hopefully guessing until the end.☺

I do love that Methods of Malice is also more than just about solving a mystery…There is depth to the story in that we are brought into life altering decisions that Cooper must make to spread her wings and take over a local shop in town. I am glad that Cooper is believing in herself and her artistic talent. Can’t wait to see how the next part of her journey turns out. And the slow but steady advancement with respect to Cooper and Jon – about time! Though in all fairness – Jon is only her third boyfriend and with what happened this past year for Cooper (a broken engagement and having to cancel all kinds of wedding plans) – one can empathize with her in proceeding VERY slowly. Luckily for her, Jon is a very patient guy.

I should also note that I really liked the cover of the book, theater lights and all. Very engaging and colorful.

If you enjoy cozy mysteries with an entertaining cast of characters, even if you have not read the series from the start (and why not???), you can pick up Methods of Malice and step into the lives of the Sunrise Bible study group as they embark on not only little theater but also solving a murder. Ellery Adams did not disappoint with this entertaining addition to the Hope Street Church Mystery series.

Note: This series is a bit heavy on Christianity – though one should be able to infer that from the series title.

Methods of Malice by Ellery Adams and Tina Radcliffe is an interesting novel featuring the Sunrise Bible Study friends and a production of “It’s A Wonderful Life.” They had all been cast and it was exciting because famous Broadway director, Simon Doyle, was involved, as was Trish’s long-time friend, Laura Champagne, who was an Assistant Director. Doyle was here to help refurbish his reputation following a reputed affair with the married star of his last production. It was not always pleasant as Regina McAllister, the older of the two assistant directors and Doyle’s ex-wife, could be less than pleasant. The whole thing was stressful, except that half of the proceeds were going to the senior center. That made Cooper want to hang in. Cooper had lots going on: a job, a new boyfriend, the play, and making her birdhouses. All was moving along until Regina turned up dead. Of course, the Sunrise Bible Study had to investigate.

I like this series. The idea of the investigators being part of a bible study makes me smile, as do the birdhouses that Cooper makes and sells. It is a cozy, cozy mystery. Cooper is a good character; a young woman who is finally coming in to her own after years of being kind of a wallflower. She has a hot new boyfriend, an exciting future, and now there’s the play. It is so sad that it was marred by this death, although that did sell tickets. The mystery was a pretty good one, punctuated by mishaps and odd happenings at the theatre. The detective, although he probably wouldn’t admit it, relied on the Bible study group to gather information from places he couldn’t. It’s always a shame when people get hurt, and several people were hurt in this story, but it seemed like recompense for their own misdeeds. It was a good story.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Methods of Malice by Beyond The Page Publishing, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #BeyondThePagePublishing #TineRadcliffe #ElleryAdams #MethodsOfMalice

I cannot say enough good things about this book. I love Ellery Adams. Her books are always wonderful to curl up in bed and read. This is my first book in this series though and I was just blown away. I love how they mix scripture in with a cozy mystery. Using prayer and the Bible to solve murders? How did I not think of this before? I absolutely love it. There were so many elements that made this book come together so that it didn't come off as preachy or even campy as some books like this are want to do.

It came out just right. I am hugely impressed by the skill and the ability shown in this book. Even though this is my first time reading about Cooper and her buddies, it didn't feel like it. It was like jumping into something familiar and with ease. The world building was great, the individual stresses and problems that Cooper faced was nice to see. Everyone likes to think that if you're a Christian then life comes off so easily and it doesn't. Sometimes it makes it harder and I was happy to see that portrayed in this book.

Amazingly well written, all of the characters fully fleshed out, the mystery had me going in circles, and the way the group came together was fantastic. Everyone helped out, no one was left behind. I really liked that. I will definitely be reading these books from here on out.

I recommend this book a thousand percent. Thanks to Netgalley, the publishers, and to Ellery Adams for the ability to read and review this wonderful book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and completely honest.

The Hope Street Bible Study group is participating with the Holiday Hope Street Theater play It's a Wonderful Life to make some money to support the local Senior Center, hopefully earning enough to purchase a bus for the Senior Center. A well-known Broadway director has volunteered his services and is there with a leading lady, Jasmine Ryan, an Assistant Director, and technician, Michael Ospina. At one of the early rehearsals. the Assistant Director doesn't show up, and soon the police arrive to say she is dead in her hotel room. She had not been very pleasant to anyone, so if she was murdered, there were a lot of people who didn't like her. There appear to be a lot of problems between the various members of the group from Broadway. The Bible Study group are now quite familiar with murder inquiries, so they begin to investigate in spite of being told by police Detective Olson that he will do the investigating.

Cooper is sort of going out with local Chef Jon, and is getting ready to call him a boy friend. Cooper's sister is still picking out clothes for her, and her mother cooks wonderful snacks for the Bible group and others. Cooper is also considering a change of career, suggested by Jon's aunt, who has a shop which sells Cooper's bird houses. There are some unfortunate unexplained incidents in the theater, and of course, near the end of the book, Cooper manages to confront the killer.

This is a very good addition to the series.

The Hope Church Bible There’s more than just theatrical drama going on with this cozy, thank goodness, that the Hope Street bible study group is “likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind” (Philippians 2:2 KJV). Cooper Lee, artistic bird house creator, manager of one of the city’s largest office machine sales and repair companies, and now a new thespian. A production of It’s a Wonderful Life, directed by the notable, if somewhat notorious Broadway director, Simon Doyle and his touring company. Grammy Lee (not your typical Grammy, more of sassy Grammy), warns Cooper to stay away from the cad of a director, not that such a warning is needed, Copper has a guy, Chef Jon Eason, her not a boyfriend-boyfriend. As usual, it is a rather unfriendly character who is the victim and there is a cast of suspects in this stand-alone story that is part of a really good series. The bible group friends work together not only with their study of Philippians but also the mystery that is threatening to derail the much needed fundraiser. The story keeps you guessing as to the who and the why, to the point that you are guessing and then second guessing. On top of an entertaining story, you also get the recipes to some well described sweet treats, such as Pumpkin Bars and Banana Bars.

Methods of Malice by Ellery Adams and Tina Radcliffe is a delightful cozy mystery and is the seventh in the Hope Street Church Mystery series. I have not read the others in the series, but was able to keep up just fine. Cooper’s Sunrise Bible study group is helping with a production of It’s A Wonderful life to raise money for the local senior center. It all goes sideways when the assistant director is found murdered.

This was a great story that reminded me of a Hallmark Mystery Movie. I loved meeting the Sunrise Bible Study group and watching their interactions and witnessing their comradery. The small town setting and theater environment was delightful, and I was guessing on the mystery until the end. Jon and Cooper continue moving their friendship to something more and we watch different friends start new adventures in the book. There are delicious recipes at the end of the story from Cooper's mom, Maggie.

The story had a good mystery, engaging characters, and I loved the Hope Street Church community! I really enjoyed this Methods of Malice and highly recommend it.

It’s a happy day when we can meet up again with the Hope Street Church Bible Study group! Authors Tina Radcliffe and Ellery Adams team up again for book 7 in this wonderful series.
The local community theater is staging It’s a Wonderful Life, and Bible Study member Trish Tyler is in the thick of it. She’s also recruited everyone in the group to participate in some way, including our favorite copier-repairwoman, Cooper Lee.
A famous Broadway director and his team are on board, too. The usual theater drama occurs (pun intended), but when the assistant director turns up dead, Cooper and the gang find themselves on the case, whether Detective Olson wants them to be or not.
I so love how the different strengths of each Bible Study group member are shown, and how faith is intertwined in the story. I read this book lickety-split, and you will, too!
Plus, those familiar with previous books will remember Cooper’s mom, Maggie Lee, is the woman behind the delicious Magnolia’s Marvels. You’ll find some of her amazing recipes in this book, too!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.

Methods of Malice is my first time reading a Hope Street Church Mysteries book. I didn’t know what to expect being the 7th book in a series. I was able to follow the storyline. without any problems. First off, I love that the mysteries center around a Bible study group. I felt like I’d fit right in. Studying God’s word & solving murders. Absolutely perfect premise for me. All the characters were endearing. I can’t wait to read pervious & future books to see what this gang is up to next. It was a good mystery & you’ll find yourself switching whodunits throughout the story. I did find myself hungry reading this book. They talk a lot about food like really yummy good food. I wish we had a Magnolia’s Marvels in my town. Not to worry though, the authors have included recipes from some of these delectable treats in the back of the book. I’m definitely going to be trying some. All in all it was a clean, cute (can I call a murder mystery cute? lol), & quirky murder mystery that you’ll want to read all in one sitting. It was hard to put down. I can’t wait to read other mysteries in The Hope Street Church Mysteries series & hang out with The Sunrise Bible study gang again.

I love Ellery Adams books but this is the first Hope Street Church Mystery I have read. I like Cooper Lee and her bible study friends. I like that they are participating in performing the play “It’s a Wonderful Life”. I enjoyed the scenes with the friends at bible study and their study of Philippians. It gave me food for thought.
The murder was an interesting one. I enjoyed how Cooper and friends gathered information and put the pieces together.
I was a bit confused at first, because this was my first time picking up a book in the series. I eventually caught on to the rhythm and tempo of the happenings. This might be a series where it’s easiest to start at the beginning and read in order.
I would recommend this book to those who like cozy mysteries and like a Christian based theme. If you have a problem with faith being openly present and talked about in books you read, then try another cozy mystery instead. Ellery Adams has several other series to consider.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

The Hope Street Community Theater is staging It’s a Wonderful Life as a fundraiser, and Cooper and her Bible study group are all taking part. They’re also getting help from Simon, a famous Broadway director, and his entourage who bring their petty grievances and jealousies to the stage. The assistant director's murder further muddies the play. Cooper and her friends decide to solve the mystery, which puts them in danger. Will they find the killer or become the next victims?
I received a free copy from Netgalley in exchange for this honest review. But I didn't realize it's #7 in a series. I felt like I walked into the middle of a movie and had to play catch-up, which was confusing.
While there is talk of God, including scripture quotes, the characters are also human. I appreciate that this book isn't preachy or filled with perfect characters.
Cooper does display prejudice against her rich sister. Many times, she mentions her sister's wealth and spending habits with a tone of disdain.
The recipes from Magnolia Lee’s kitchen sound scrumptious!

So glad this series is experiencing a revival and I love the way Tina Radcliffe has captured the personalities of these friends and the bible study dynamics in general. And I love the way scriptures are seamlessly woven into the story.

Cooper and the gang are back doing good works and stumbling over bodies :-) There's a nice blend of humour and drama and these amateur sleuths have become quite competent. Also love the way they work with the police detective instead of against him. The mystery kept me guessing...I had about three prime suspects and kept dithering between them until I had my 'aha' moment.

Here's hoping there are more Hope Street Church mysteries in our future.

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Cris Dukehart. She's a recognizable voice in my cozy mystery 'reading' and I'm a fan. Sometimes I look forward to a familiar narrator as much as a fave author.

This is a beautifully written and heartfelt story about love, friendship, family and community. It has the Sunrise Bible Study group who are close knit group of friends who support and encourage each other. The group is involved in the Hope Street Community Theater putting on "It's A Wonderful life" to raise money for the Senior Community Center. I love how it shows everyone caring about where they live and wanting to volunteer and give back to the community they live in.

During rehearsals accidents start happening and then someone is murdered. Although they were told to stay out of it Cooper and her friends can't help but look for clues and try and figure out who the murder is. They want the show to go on.

This was like a breathe of fresh air to read during this time and gave you peace and hope in humanity.

Hope Street Church is very lively. Cooper is the main sleuth. One group, the Sunrise Bible Study group is preparing to put on a play. Their background research is It's a Wonderful life. The money collected is meant to help their senior center. The ones involved in this drama are the Sunrise Bible Study Group. The location is Virginia.

Putting on a play is exciting and contagious. Wearing vintage clothes for the play is enough to make an actor feel enthusiastic. The costumes might cut the stress. It is not long before a murder happens. It is very disconcerting to think a church member's mind has become nothing but a place for sick thoughts. Visiting Richmond to see the historical landmarks may erase a little bit of fear. Is it bad luck to have a murder take place in a theater? One thing is certain. No one will forget this play. There is already a detective on the scene.

Really enjoyed this cozy mystery. Even though this is book 7 in a series and I haven’t read any previous, I soon grew to love the characters and can’t wait to go back to the beginning.

I love a cozy mystery and adding in faith made it just perfect, I really appreciated that the characters were actioning what they were learning in the Bible studies throughout the story, I loved the relationships between the members of the Bible study, and the variety of characters.

Cozy mystery wise I like how we went on the journey to discovering the killer along with the characters, it wasn’t obvious from the beginning. There was lots of yummy food talk, and some recipes at the back of the book. Definitely recommend.

Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley UK for a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.
