Blooming Apocalypse

Rate this book
An Action-Packed LitRPG Apocalypse!

The elves took everything. Following a bloodied slaughter of her whole race, and struggling to stay alive, she had no choice but to survive on her own. That was until the world changed. Her entire planet; a whole cluster was introduced to the vast universe by The System, or perhaps God. A universe filled with endless beings and civilizations that fought for power and dominance.

After the integration, Blair finds herself in a forest surrounded by unknown beasts, peril lurking, alone. Alone and with nothing but the mentality to survive, she will have to get stronger in this new unforgiving world of numbers and power.

With nothing but the capability to get stronger, her distant dreams of revenge might just become a reality.

weaponization of flowers, an interesting concept.

For a first time author, this is an OK story. The emcee not so much. She is stubborn makes a lot of silly mistakes and is too headstrong. Maybe in the next book I will grow to like her. The other issue is spatial rings that don’t hold enough equipment or cause weight, I don’t think so. Items and equipment that are put in Spacial rings are in a different dimension so things that are put in them should not weigh anything. some of the flashbacks are a little bit jarring because you’re not sure where you’re at in the story. The story is intriguing, and the weaponization of flowers is very unique. Will read the next book.

Help me read more books

Well, I had high hopes for this one. It started out well, but then I think the author got tied up in the details. The story wasn't a bad one, it just went off the rails too many times during it's telling.
The circumstances at the end of the book are completely different though, so perhaps the next book will be more on target, and maybe it will be more story, and less meaningless destruction/violence.
Nothing against meaningless destruction/violence, they certainly have their places in stories, but this story devolved into page after page of nothing useful. Parts were brilliant, but parts were useless as well. However, if you can struggle through, the story ends up being fairly well done, just with a lot of extraneous nonsense. I'll probably read the next book in the series, and hopefully it will focus on more interesting topics, redeeming this one a bit, since it seems like it will be a building centric story, and I love building stories.

Meh wierd

Definitely not your typical system apocalypse. I enjoyed the flow of the book and even following the primary MC. However the whole system is weird. Some of the concepts that the system is trying to introduce Are unusual and Difficult. And much of the terminology used to describe it is insufficient. I enjoyed all the battles and the fighting which were pretty straightforward for the most part but the metaphysical, By the end of the book, left me quite confused. Not sure if I can handle another book With this dark and confusing overshadow. They just wasn't enough descriptions Of the overall adventure To make it seem why any of the effort by the characters was worthwhile. When I walk away from this book, it's less to me about what I do know and more about what I don't know. Good battles though. And I liked the modifiable magic and self made skills. Only redeeming factor in my opinion.

If you like LitRPG and aren’t too worried about execution you should like this. I will continue reading at least the next one.

The best that can be said for this novel is that it’s going for something unique and interesting in the space, and actually mostly succeeds. Honestly I think it probably has a four or five star potential there.

Unfortunately the execution is terrible. The prose is stilted, redundant, and rambling. Our main character is written as a person undergoing a crisis but doesn’t evolve at all mentally. We’re constantly bombarded with annoying interludes. The system is terribly mushy. Our system assistant is a disaster. There are occasionally adjacent sentences that don’t appear to have anything to do with each other. The dues ex machina is actually baked into the story.

Decent plot, utterly terrible mechanics

Blair's a conflicted character who, while driven, is not all that smart. She's reactionary and pointlessly combative. Fortunately, she tends to pay the price for being so stupid.

Unfortunately, readers pay the price in watching her utterly screw her build in a way that doesn't end up mattering because stats don't actually drive damage potential. In fact, the stats barely matter outside of flavor text like someone not being able to keep up while walking. People just do things and the stats and skills barely reflect this. Skills don't even have formal prerequisites and are, again, not at all affected by stats.

There are also other characters but they don't actually matter besides slowing down the plot in a couple chapters.

Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy for an honest review. Sadly this is a DNF for me. I’m giving three stars because it wasn’t awful or poorly written it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I can’t really put my finger on what made this book such chore to read. I thought the initial premise and having a non human MC was extremely interesting however it didn’t really do anything special with it. The unrealized potential always scratched at the back of my brain. The system was disjointed and random which is something I never enjoy. This lead to very little interest in the character leveling. I enjoyed this book had side characters but I didn’t get overly invested. The writing is solid and it mostly steers clear of LitRPG tropes but I just couldn’t find the motivation to finish.

This is not for everyone.

This is about a confused child, she would be about seventeen I human terms, who survived by chance. She has no drive and no direction. She is reactive and meandering. If you find this annoying, this is a two star book. I will say the narrative fits the character perfectly, it all makes sense given her fragile state. The one issue is how situational everything is. The balance I the system is nonsensical. Everything is obviously occurring for plot reasons. The side characters are flat and there just to drive the story.

This is one of the most exciting LitRPG books I’ve ever read. The only thing preventing this from being a 5-star read is that it really needs to be edited. That being said, Azrie’s writing flows fantastically in spite of the shaky grammar and awkward sentence structures. It’s easy to forget that this is 600 pages long, because the plot is literally non-stop action and adventure. The characters aren’t 100% likeable, but that didn’t matter much to me in the end. It was massively enjoyable, and I’m very much looking forward to reading book 2.

Needs… Polishing

Desperately needs polishing.
I’ve never seen a book with so many mistakes in all my hundreds of books.
But, the mistakes are generally consistent and not… strictly the result of a complete lack of comprehension of English as a language.

If the Author reads this (Unlikely though it is):
You need to fix yours “in” & “on” usage… seem to have them mixed up…

That’s it though. Beyond that, decent enough book.
Definite Primal Hunter (Zogarth) vibes.

KU Review

Interesting entry. At times the MC can be frustratingly naive and stubborn to the point I want to yell and shake some common sense into her like she was my own wayward child. I guess if an author can evoke such emotion, they are doing something right.

General disclaimer: I want to be clear in that I do not factor cost into any review and as such, this is simply a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis.

enjoyable

Great story, world building, and characters. Blair and her mana assistant are pretty good together: her sour and grouchy and serious nature vs annoying likability. I was a little confused by during her battle with worm and ant guardians, and didn’t quite understand everything about her patron and her prophecy, but I sort of figured it out.

nice start

enjoyed the book, will be reading the next one. the percent stats seemed wrong in the beginning but i didn’t double check. the prophecy part was a bit confusing. she didnt want to be under someones thumb but then made an allegiance anyway to two different people. a champion and a mentee/mentor. seems contradictory

An acceptable story

This story was only OK. The main character is a bit simple. She does not have a lot of emotional depth. Hopefully, she’ll gain more substance in later books. For fans of the primal hunter, this is a bit of a knock off.

Poor writing and unlikable protagonist

Aaaaand that’s a wrap for me. The protagonist is a simple-minded jerk and the writing leaves a lot to be desired. Lots of grammar issues and wrong words used. The system is confusing and not well defined.

I love this book. Great and interesting plot. Fresh and different characters.

My only complaints was some spelling errors and it needs a good going through by an editor or a few good beta readers to fix a few things. Really wanted to give it 5 stars!!!

I can not wait to read book 2.

Pretty interesting

This was a pretty good story. I liked Blair for the most part though she's prone to a little self pity from time to time and the plot so far has been interesting enough to keep me engaged.

Editor Needed

Grammar and sentence structure are pretty bad. It was sufficiently distracting that I unfortunately found the book to be unreadable.

Not too bad, but I didn't like the set-up, the system, or even the main character. The psyche was off and just didn't seem realistic.
