Un noir decente
Piuttosto originale questo noir parigino, per come è strutturato (senza eroi, senza detective se non in ruolo alquanto defilato, senza femme fatale, senza sparatorie) per la verosimiglianza dei personaggi e per gli ambienti abbastanza inconsueti (gallerie d’arte e sale da biliardo).
Termina un po’ in calando, proprio quando comincia a fare concessioni ai cliché del genere, ma per buona parte del suo breve (meno di 200 pagine) percorso si mantiene interessante e senza che il lettore sia assalito dalla noia del già visto.
In tal senso un particolare determinante (almeno per me) è che il protagonista sia un uomo qualunque che fa un mestiere qualunque.

Ok but not the dark savage satire of the modern art world. Not funny either so all in all either the author is just not that good or the translator slaughtered it. I suspect the former.

Искусство во всем.
Иногда попадаются мне такие детективы или триллеры, когда ты не пытаешься предугадать что будет дальше или кто убийца, когда ты просто принимаешь мир данный автором и с интересом наблюдаешь за происходящим. Если в самом начале я еще играла в игру "угадай что будет дальше", то с каждой страницей делала я все это не охотнее, а потом и вовсе перестала, потому что автор делал не то, что придумывала я и делал это интересно, так что не было смысла придумывать свое и что-то предугадывать, когда меня так радуют.
Героя, конечно Бенаквиста протащил по сюжету, как по терке. И мечты его лишил и чуть с ума не свел, но как приятно, что он дал ему новую мечту и возможность творить. Пусть не такую, какой он жил до страшного дня, когда на него страшная абстрактная статуя свалилась, но вдохновляющая его.
В рецензии принято писать краткое содержание книги, а как его кратко описать и все не заспойлерить я даже не представляю. Там же каждый кусочек пазла четко на своем месте и четко в нужное время. Мне поэтому книга и понравилась, что никто не бесил, лишнего времени на подумать себе не брал, а потом пятьдесят страниц не страдал вне темы книги. Здесь каждый поступок понятен, местами поступки могли быть и безумны, но в той обстановке с теми знаниями они не казались инородными.
В общем эту непростую историю с кучей преступлений про человека работавшего в галерее и мечтающего играть в бильярд как бог стоит прочитать. Она не закрученная, она внятная. Заодно можно много интересного про современное искусство узнать:)

Цікава книга із незвичайним сюжетом. Мистецтво, більярд, дивна крадіжка. Головний герой, який хотів перешкодити грабіжнику, позбавляється правої руки. Як тепер жити, якщо головна пристрасть життя – гра у більярд. Він вирішує розібратися у цій заплутаній справі, що знайти того, хто зробив із ним таке.
Легко читається книга, цікаво стежити за подіями аж до фіналу. Детектив вийшов незвичайним, таких раніше я не читала.
Знайомство з автором вважатиму вдалим.

Juin 2024. Je suis mitigée. Je ne peux pas dire que le personnage d’Antoine est particulièrement attachant. Ça se lit bien mais c’est décevant. C’est comme si l’intrigue tenait à pas grand chose au fond. La main coupée n’a été qu’un accident, tout comme l’acharnement d’Antoine à découvrir la raison du vol semble l’être aussi.
Il est vrai que souvent les romans policiers sont construits sur pas grand chose, j’imaginais plus de Benacquista je suppose.

Le policier n'est pas tout à fait mon genre préféré, mais le parallèle avec le monde de l'art visuel était intéressant.

Les descriptions de tableaux, sculptures et le technique de l'art sont intéressant mais je trouve l'histoire moyenne. On m'a dit que c'est drôle. Il était écrit en 1990.

Complex and abstruse. You need real determination to follow it.
As an Englishman one relies on the translator; assuming she is faithful, it shows Benacquista has a habit of assuming you're following him. He introduces new ideas assumptively, if you don't follow you lose; indeed it's a good idea to be ready for this because he isn't going to backtrack and update you.. You can imagine him saying "keep up man!"
Even the fact that a search is going on, that there is any element of revenge isn't something made obvious right away; one gets those through inference.
Whether any peace is achieved in the denouement, or maybe a little hope, is a matter for the reader. The proof of the pudding is often found in whether one reads another of his books. Better to read 'The Family' beforehand as it's little more 'black comedic', thus easier to enjoy and more likely to encourage one to read more of his..

Although I found the main character a bit foreign to me, for the most part I enjoyed this book. His decisions and life are not related to me, but they were suited to who he was as the writer intended. I was thoroughly surprised by the events early in the book that led the direction of the rest of the novel, and the rest of the book kept up a fairly lively energy. I think the pace could have been a bit more even, and the ending was a bit farcical, but the writing/translation were solid.
I have been enjoying these translations by Bitter Lemon Press, introducing me to different writers and situations.

Отличный триллер-детектив! Мне понравился нетривиальный сюжет и хитросплетение частей истории. Идея про убийственнве способности искусства -- сильная и оригинальная.
Кто-то из поклонников Бенаквиста сетует на то, что, мол, динамика развития событий несколько проседает в этом романе по сравнению с предыдущими детективами автора. Однако для меня "Три красных квадрата на чёрном фоне" -- первая книга французского романиста и она произвела на меня сильное впечатление, темп тоже показался вполне подходящим. Ведь в истории большое место уделяется переживаниям главного героя и их экспозиции.
Я получила истинное удовольствие от текста.

Query from Pale House re Goodreads hit me at the perfect moment; I've just finished a good book by French mystery author Tonino Benacquista, "Framed", 2006, trade paper, about the modern art world in Paris. Clever, stylish, concise, and very satisfying! Judging by cover comments, the author has acquired a rep for "black comedy" with violence, but I found this book much more than that; I admire the writer's close observation, deftly done without stuffing pages and story with unwanted detail, and the speed and lightness of a book with substance to it all the same. Highly recommended!

Ещё один отличный роман от Бенаквисты.
Интрига чуть более прозрачная, как оказалось, нежели в других его вещах, но основная ценность не в этом.
Замечательное описание внутреннего мира главного героя, да и людей вокруг него.
Современное искусство, правда, похоже, не сильно "вдохновляет" литератора, как-то жестко он с ним. Впрочем, может, это тоже игра...
Короче, рекомендую однозначно.

Un vol, un assaut, une mutilation, un mystère, une intrigue dans le mileu de la peinture moderne qui débute bien mais qui se perd au fil du temps dans une enquête digne des "Cahiers de l'Art". Prometteur donc mais baclé, avec une fin au lyrisme caricatural.

The blurb on the back of the book badges this as a black comedy but I did not find any humour in it at all. There are some sly digs at modern art but the story did not quite make sense to me. I have another one of the author's books to read next so I wonder what I will make of that one.
