The history of Europe in the 20th century is one of distressing event, uneasy interludes, and terrible destruction, but at the same time of proud and valiant attempts to defend and eventually to restore humane order to European civilization. This volume is organized chronologically around 4 key periods. This volume also has been designed with well-chosen and suggestive texts to illuminate larger themes and issues important at the introductory level.

An awesome run through of the first half of 20th century Europe, likely the most eventful for a long time, through writings and speeches. Most of the major thoughts of the day are carefully picked out, which helps me to follow the path of consciousness of the continent. Agreed with some, disagreed with others, was satisfied to see all the perspectives. I hope they do something for the latter half of the 1900s, maybe it's a bit early to include the 00's but the Euro breakup threats and Brexit sections would be oh so good.
