A couple of interesting points were made, but senseless, irrational misogyny, completely only reinforced how bad overall it is.

If you know me, you'll know I've been obsessed with Black Sails for a year and a half now, so when I saw this book, I couldn't help but pick it up, and it's so excellent!!! This is not just biographies on pirates that have existed, while it certainly talks about their lives, it's very much comparing the different pirates, and the different impacts on the world - they're not all painted as violent monsters, because not all of them were... This book very specifically focuses on how pirates come to be, these misfits, this people that are marginalized by society, and want to create a better and safe place for them - this is how the book speaks of pirates, which Black Sails thesis as well, and it taught me points of history that I did not know before, especially when you're speaking of pirates from more recent centuries.
This is a great book if you're into pirates, just you know, still remember this was originally written in 1987!!!
