Rate this book
Azazel arrives at Jason's community calling herself Joan, with no memory of who she is or what they've shared together. But Jason recognizes her, and once he realizes his powers of persuasion work on her now, he's willing to do anything to keep her with him, no matter how macabre or immoral.

Kieran wanted to use the grimoire to purge Azazel's powers, but instead he's transferred them to himself, along with her memories. When he discovers the Order of the Fly wants to use him to control the world, he sets off to find Azazel, determined to return her powers and memory so that she can stop the OF's attempt at world domination.

Kieran wanted to eradicate Azazel's destructive magic but accidentally stole her powers and memories instead. Azazel doesn't remember who she is but she can feel Jason's power calling out to her. Jason has established a compound and is brainwashing his followers to feel nothing but happiness and tranquility. Reunited with Azazel once again he is determined to keep her close even if it means influencing her mind. This is the fifth book in the Jason and Azazel series and the second book in the Jason and Azazel: Apocalypse trilogy.

Between The Heaves Of Storm is a post-apocalyptic story with paranormal elements. This story takes place about a year after the last book ended. It's a light read with lots of drama and violence.

Joan is the name Azazel has chosen for herself after not being able to recall anything about her former life. Joan's narrative is devoid of Azazel's established personality and is kind of a throwback to her naive romantic obsession from the first book. Her chapters give a better sense of who Jason has become while he reanalyzes their relationship in depth. Jason gets a lot more character development and has some personal breakthroughs that were a long time coming.

I usually get bored with stories that incorporate amnesia but this one keeps it interesting by adding a twist and an additional narrative viewpoint. Kieran is frustrated with having all of Azazel's memories and he's trying to find her so he can return them but he isn't sure if he should also return her powers. His chapters offer a different perspective on Azazel's magic, her personality, and her relationships with Jason and Kieran.

World building was good. Jason's compound has its own culture, values and customs that were interesting to read. It was kind of reminiscent of Jonestown but Jason's magical abilities and his struggle to maintain order gives it a different type of darkness. Kieran's viewpoint shows more of the post-apocalyptic world and society while also demonstrating how powerful magic has become throughout the world.

The ending presents an ironic twist and I'm curious to see its repercussions.

What?! Seriously?! Seriously? The whole amnesia thing?! COME ON! As I've said before: transparent plot devices. It's like a soap opera. Aside from that um, just, I can't even. Jasontown? The whole thing reminded me of Jonestown, which is I'm sure what she was the point. And it's funny because while I was reading this I saw the movie "Ruby Sparks" (which was very good by the way)and it sort of has a similar theme. Jason can control everyone but he isn't satisfied controlling her because he wants Azazel to be Azazel. He wants advice and comfort from her, but when he has control over her he is just providing it to himself. For a while he realizes that and settles for it but it slowly drives him mad and he realizes that he needs to let her go to be free. And then of course after all he's done to her NOW she wants him back?! What?! Ugh and Kieran! Such a bastard. On the one hand I sort of understand why he did what he did to Azazel, on the other hand I sort of hate him and what he becomes and him and Eve! Ugh Eve! If I wasn't sure in the first book of the second trilogy that this series has sort of jumped the shark this cemented it. Do I still want to know how this will all end? You betcha.

V.C. Chambers is one of those authors that can take over your mind with a few words. I actually had no idea that there was gonna be another Jason & Azazel book so imagine my delight when looking at books on amazon this came up :-) My husband about had a heart~attack when I used the one~click on Amazon so I could download it (it bounced his account). Anyways I just had to have it.... It did'nt dissapoint. Through every one of these books I have always wanted Jason & Azazel together - Yeah, the last one made me wanna scream at times - I have never been a fan of Kieran, not too sure why except maybe Azazel is tougher than him. Needless to say Between the Heaves of Storm was 100% worth my husbands wrath, LOL

V.J. Chambers has completed another great story for her famous characters Azael and Jason. At first it was a bit hard to catch up to what was happening, but once I caught up I really got into the story and could not stop reading. It is hard for me because I want Zaza and Jason to be together, so the ending was kind of disappointing for me and now I have to wait until the next book comes out to find out what happens. Overall though a really good additon to the series.

Jason and Azazel never cease to amaze me. Just when you think they are done with one another something pulls them together. Who wouldve thought CAmeron was going to turn back up??!! What a crazy path this book took towards end! Definately one of the best in the series so far.
