Seventeen-year-old Glory Templeton's blood holds the cure for a deadly pandemic-plague, and she embarks on a quest to save humanity. When evil forces conspire to stop her, three supernatural beings are assigned to be her guardians. Forbidden love, ancient secret societies, mysterious astronomical monuments, witches, angels, vampires, and demons all contribute to the high adventure that tests the character of this remarkable young woman. The legend of Glory begins!
Bestselling author Devin O’Branagan writes novels about uncommon heroes. Her genres include young adult urban fantasy, science fiction, paranormal thrillers, paranormal romance, romantic comedy, and erotic romance. She’s been published by Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Books, German publisher Heyne Verlag, Turkish publisher Dogan Egmont, and indie publisher Cornucopia Creations. Her books are available in print, eBook, and audio book formats.
I loved it! It was a quick, fast-paced story that literally left me breathless (in a good way)! Before starting the book, I was very curious as to how the author would be able to introduce and work a decent story with vampires, angels, witches and demons into 210 pages... she DID and did it wonderfully!
I was entertained by the story and I loved the charismatic central characters. Kaia - a witch (clairevoyant), Zane a cowboy who was turned into a vampire in the mid-1800's, and Dominic (oh boy... ), Glory's guardian angel, have been organized to help Glory (our heroine, human 17 year old girl) see that the cure (that has been injected into her) to the pandemic plague that is wiping out the earth's population gets to the right scientists before evil finds Glory and prevents the cure from being found out.
Of course, there is romance involved in this heady situation Glory has found herself in. One could only wish that Glory would/could share her guardian angel, Dominic... Hmmm....??? Or what about having Zane (cowboy vampire) as your protector??!! ;-)
There were many messages and little life lessons along the way that were not lost in the story.
Hallie (Glory's australian shepherd dog) had a substantial part in the story... I loved her role... it was very endearing.
You did an awesome job, Devin! I'm really looking forward to the next installment!
I was anxious to get this book since it has an Australian Shepherd in it and supernaturals too! It is a quick read and I didn't do much except read yesterday - finished around midnight. I really liked the heroine, Glory, who rose to the occasion after tragedy and was plunged into a world she didn't know existed. I won't say what supernaturals helped her in her quest to literally save humanity, because part of the fun of reading it was wondering what Dominic really was. There are vampires, witches with various talents, angels, demons...and I may be leaving something out. This is a fast paced book - kind of like watching 24 on television - about a specific adventure that brought these "people" together. Plenty of romance too - a bit of a triangle to make it interesting. Lots of characters to like and some to fear and hate. I am very much looking forward to the next book where I hope Glory finds her long lost sister and why she was taken as a child.
A word about Glory's Aussie, Hallie. I have had Aussies for decades and the author has done a very authentic job of bringing true Aussie character to life. I probably am very critical about this, and it worked!
When a deadly pandemic sweeps the world, Glory succumbs to it. Her mother though is a scientist and injects the last of the cure into her. She gets better but her mother tells her she has to run, she has to find the other scientists her mother worked with. They have gone into hiding because someone is after them. Someone doesn't want the sure for the plague to become common knowledge and will do anything they can to stop it. Glory sees her mother being kidnapped and ends up running so that she doesn't get caught or killed. Her mother told her that a priest will help her so now Glory has to get there without been seen.
Glory meets the priest and is assigned 3 supernatural guardians. Can a vampire, angel and witch help save Glory and the world?
This was such a surprise. The cover and blurb doesn't really give much away so I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading it. Well I'm so glad to say that I really enjoyed it.
Glory is an average teenager until her world is turned upside down. The plague is sweeping the world and everyone who contracts it dies. People are dying left and right and when her dad comes down with it she is devastated. Next thing Glory knows is that she is sick, she knows that her chance of survival is nill so when she eventually wakes up she is confused. Her mother tells her that she had to give her the last of the cure. From that second on, Glorys life is not her own. She ends up on the run with beings she didn't know existed and her dog, whom she never really took much notice of. Glory was an awesome heroine. She questions everything and has her, whoa is me, moments but still does whats needed of her. She is only 17 and is thrust into things she hasn't a clue how to handle, but handle them she does. She is strong, determined and an overall average girl!
The author brings 3 different supernatural beings to be Glorys Guardians and I really loved that element. Where else would you read about an Angel, a Witch and a Vampire working together to save humanity!! I loved the lore she through in as well. Never have I read a book with so much in it that works so well together. Apart from the supernatural element, we also have the religious element and demonic elements as well. It was fascinating.
Overall Glory was a pleasant surprise. It's a thrilling, fascinating and fantastical read. The book is centered on Glorys journey but each of the other characters have a bit of their story told. Glorys dog also stole some of the story, Hallelujah was awesome!! This book has a bot of everything in it to satisfy everyone. The author weaved such an amazing and somewhat realistic story that I flew through the pages. The pandemic is scary and made doubly so when we learn the truth behind it! I cant wait to dive into book 2 and see where Glorys journey takes us.
To say the least for being a book of only 210 pages Devin has packed this book with so many details that keep you turning page after page until you are finished. The main character Glory is a girl who the whole world depends on for a cure to a plague that has killed her father and is killing others. She is assigned to three very different people to keep her safe and get her to where she needs to be and eventually she develops feelings for two of them. Zane is an amazingly sexy cowboy who just so happens to be .... yes you guessed it a vampire. Then there is Dominic who at the begining is a very intense guy. He's an angel who is not impressed by the humans and the way they live but eventually finds his way. Kaia is a witch who has psychic sight and of course Glory's dog Hallie who belonged to her dad. These three amazingly different characters were sent to protect Glory because her task of getting her cure to the right people isn't easy when there are people who are trying to stop her and will do anything to stop them from finding the people Glory needs to find. All together this book is fun with a bit of sexiness(which I enjoyed) and thrill . It keeps you on edge wondering if they all make it and what happens next. I can't wait to read more. This book was amazing and I would tell anyone they should pick it up and give it a go. Devin has such a talent for taking you places you have never thought to go through her words. She has found herself a spot as one of my favorite authors. You can check out more on the story of Glory and the other amazing characters at http://www.glorylegend.com/ .
There’s a lot of love about Glory – both the character and the novel. You’d think that being young adult fantasy, it would lack some of the depth and darkness that her novels Threshold and Witch hunt delved into - but you would be mistaken. It’s just a bit more subtle. Good vs. evil; hope or hate for humanity; whether a dog can really save the human race – it’s all there.
The characters in Glory are fun, that’s what kept bringing me back to it whenever life forced me to put it down. Each man, woman, anthropomorphically flexible being, and canine have his or her own species-specific dilemmas, their own complete stories going on as an undercurrent to the main narrative, and I wanted to know more about all of them.
Another perk is that, in a day where “Team Vampire vs. Team Werewolf” stories abound, O’Branagan takes an…angelic twist that I find refreshing and charming. This is one battle in which I wouldn’t be able to choose a side.
I have to say that my favourite characters appeared right at the end, the lovely Goth Girls: Jinx, Jade, Jasmine, and Jezebel. These ladies kick all kinds of ass and I want to be their friend. Please?
Fine, well even if I’m not given that opportunity, then I can at least look forward to their return in the sequel to Glory – which is currently being on worked by Ms O’Branagan (permission to hop up and down with excitement)?
I wasn't sure what to expect, as I haven't read many books with supernatural beings in them, but it was a totally believable story with wonderful characters.
It was so good, I had trouble putting it down until I was finished.
O'Branagan has a lovely writing style that is immensely enjoyable to read.
This is such an interesting concept. I especially loved the mix of supernatural creatures that join in on the adventure with glory. Witches, vampires, angels, and dogs- oh my!
Glory is such an inherently good girl. She really cares about other people. She is so selfless, and it was really inspiring. This journey could not have been easy on her, but she never wavered- she never had a weak moment. That's what I liked the most about her. The love triangle in the story was just so-so for me. I liked both of the guys. That wasn't the problem. I just wanted at least one of them to give some sort of gesture for Glory. I mean she is such an awesome girl, I just wanted them to fight for her. Maybe that will happen in the next book. (Fingers crossed)
Zane and Dominic were both pretty cool, and I don't even know which one I like more. They were both "good guys"! Do you know how refreshing it is for a book to not pit good guy against the bad guy? I loved it! They are both really likable, and I am dying to find out more about Zane and Glory's connection and I'm dying to find out more about Dominic period. I think if I had to pick a side, I would say I'm marginally on team Dominic. But only by a little bit. I can't wait to see what is going to happen with the whole gang in the next book.
Overall, Glory was a really good read. The story is constantly moving and progressing, so as a reader you never get bored. It is really well written and the characters are all likable. I can't wait to read the next book, but I am really curious as to what the conflict in the next book is going to be. It should be interesting to see where Devin takes the books from here.
This is a first! This YA novel is self-published and I actually like it! As a book blogger, I am contacted often by authors who self-publish and want their books reviewed. Honestly, I rarely read them because the writing is so bad I can't finish the book. But O'Branagan's tale about Glory and her other "superhero" protectors was interesting. The book is little and short, but she manages to pack a lot of details in. The book is definitely plot driven, but it works.
A plague has descended on the world and Glory's dad dies. Her mom, a scientist, has developed a vaccine and a cure, but "they" don't want it out there--the population needs to decrease by a few billion first. With the help of a vampire, a dog, an angel, and a witch, Glory must find her missing mother and get the cure out to the rest of the world. The book has a sequel, so the problems aren't solved in this first book, but the cliffhanger makes you want to read more.
Glory By Devin O'Branagan Love, Hate, Life, Death, and Faith, these are words that we all take for granted every day, yet they seem to be what holds the fabric of the universe together. This book is about a young girl who finds that each one of those words are more than just words they are power. When Glory finds out that she is the cure for a deadly plague she is thrown into a world she only thought existed in the movies. With the help of some very unconventional friends she finds herself in a deadly race to save all of humanity. I found this book to be very enjoyable and well worth the read because it was filled with love, loss, and passion. It is not like any other book that I have read of this kind and should not be treated as such just because of the subject matter or characters in it. This book is all about the the power of Faith and should be approached that way.
Glory. What can I say? So many people compose their reviews by comparing books to other, existing works. I'm afraid I can't do that, the simple reason being Glory isn't like any other book I've read. Certainly, it has vampires, angels, witches and mystics, evil corporations and a dog in it; so do a thousand other stories, more than a few now sit on my bookshelves even as I write this.
But these are mere tools, pieces of the puzzle, marionettes which Ms. O'Branagan makes dance to her tune. Join her as she takes you on a journey through a world both startlingly different and disturbingly familiar. Be amazed, be thrilled, be pleased and be entertained. But also be saddened, shocked and even hurt, for these too are part of life.
Glory, the main character of the book Glory is a 17 year old. Her father is a painter, mom is a medical researcher. Glory has recently taken up photography and they own a Australian Sheppard named Hallelujiah (Hallie for short).
The book is written in the first person, and starts off with Glory taking care of her father, who has fallen ill with the same illness that has recently become a pandemic Plague, killing thousands (at least) of people. Within the first chapter, Glory becomes ill herself and ends up laying on the same bed as her father, with the dog in between them. She has a hazy memory of her mother coming home, injecting her with something, and after that things move very quickly.
Her mother is kidnapped, Glory and Hallie end up going into hiding and she seeks out the help of a person her mother has told her to contact. This first book of the series chronicles Glory's quest to find her mother's missing team/co-workers and to give them samples of her own blood, since her mother has made sure that she had the last surviving dose of the cure for the plague.
Helping her on her quest is of course, Hallie (who seems to be an extra special dog) and two seemingly teen boys and a young woman. They turn out to be members of other species (vampires, angels, witches...) and Glory learns lessons of acceptance and trust, while her guardians seem to be learning the same thing.
Glory and her new friends don't have it easy - they are put through one test after another, find themselves in danger more than once and each of them seems to have a personal crisis, as someone or some people who have a lot of power don't want them to succeed in bring Glory's blood to good use.
I enjoyed the story very much. Hallie the dog, was a pretty strong secondary character. The other characters were interesting - each had their own culture and way of thinking. The only thing that pulled me out of the story a bit, was Glory's almost too-formal-speech for a teen, and the extreme jealousy that the two men had over Glory. I understand that they were possible being played, and being an older more "jaded" person, I'm not that into the romancy, jealous behaviour of boys. I think a teen girl might have found this highly entertaining though.
Over all, I think this was a good story - I loved the angle of the pandemic with Glory's quest pushing her to her limits to get to the missing research team in one piece so that they could begin working on a cure for others. I also liked that not everything came easy to the crew. They went through some bad times, and suffered some losses.
Though there were some mush-gushy scenes (mushy to me), there was nothing extremely graphic in the sex department. Even the violence, was done with a light touch - it wouldn't be too much for a mature middle grade student to read.
There will be more novels with Glory's story coming in the future.
In the first page of Glory, we enter into a world full of different creatures and extraordinary communities along with the some unusual companions..
Glory is a teenager girl, unaware to the hidden world, who gets into a difficult situation without realizing. Soon, she finds herself trying to save too many people. She has to take this journey, along with some unfamiliar people, in order to do that. The book is actually a race, while their main obstacle is time. This time is running out as they are trying to save humanity.
I like the fact that we don't get any illusions, I appreciate that the author didn't waste any time; she quickly introduced us to a unique world, where some different creatures live in. The book includes a variety of characters, each represents a whole world. You get to know a lot of them, their personality and their lives in the magical world, which give the story a better aspect.
Glory is a girl I liked to admire, even if sometimes she is whining too much. Her world shatters down around her and she still seems to go get her goals. She doesn't try to be a brave, she knows she has to. She is a leader, caring and emotional. It is well seen in her relationship with her dog, as they take care of each other for the whole book. Although she expresses a lot of emotions toward her parents, I felt like her past was a lot more blurry than it was supposed to be. It'd have been great if we could have heard about her friends, her school and her memories.
With so many characters, came a lot of issues needed to be discussed. Since it's not possible to skip them, it makes a situation where the book contains all of them- it simply can't, so problems don't get the full development they need. While I believe the author dealt well with most of them, I would rather have seen less of them. In addition, the book was more about talking than acting. Reading a conversation, I wished I could know how they're acting, how they look like, what their faces were saying. Glory is surely the one to express feeling, but the other characters' body language should be saying a lot, too.
Feeling the danger and the pain around, I got to drive with Glory and the guys to save humanity from humanity. Dealing a lot of obstacles, Glory tries to stay in focus, fulfill her mission and to figure out what love actually is.
I really enjoyed the book and I'd love to read more of the author's works in the future. Glory's adventures are not over yet and I hope I'll get to travel with her one more time!
Seventeen year old Glory Templeton’s blood holds the cure for a deadly pandemic-plague and she embarks on a quest to save humanity. When evil forces conspire to stop her, three supernatural beings are assigned to be her guardians. Forbidden love, ancient secret societies, mysterious astronomical monuments, vampires, witches, angels and demons all contribute to the high adventure that tests the character of this remarkable young woman. The legend of Glory begins!
The book starts with a young girl names Glory by her father’s death bed. He is dying from the pan-plague which is killing off huge portions of the population. Glory catches the plague from her father while tending to him and her mother returns from work to find them both dying. Her mother, one of the scientists who are working on creating a vaccine, tells Glory that her team found the cure, but once a select few were given the vaccine the company she works for, Scorpio destroyed all remaining vaccine viles. . . except for one. She escaped with the one vile left and can only save one. After Glory is given the vaccine and now the worlds’ only hope for a cure, her mother sends her to see a priest who contacts the “Caretakers” and appoints three protectors for Glory. Zane a cowboy vampire, Aria a physic witch, and Dominic, Glory’s guardian angel are sent to protect her in her journey to locate the other scientists that worked with her mother so that they can create the antidote from her blood.
I really liked the idea of this book, there are a lot of great characters and ideas in it but it was too much for one book. At only a little over 200 pages the entire story is crammed in to read more like a Syfy movie then an actual book it might be based on. I don’t think the characters aren’t given enough time to develop and there isn’t much internal monologue. I do like the story itself and hope to read more about Glory in further books, but I just wish the story would have been spread out more and taken its time.
Re reading Glory again I fell in love with it. It is a quick, exciting book that has all the elements I love in a book, romance, mystery, paranormal creatures galore and hot guys I can fall in love with :) I read it really quickly and if I had of had the time to read it in one sitting I would have.
Feb 2012 Review
Glory was a quick, exciting book that I liked instanstly. It took me just a few days to read and I really liked the concept of the story. Once I finished reading it I wanted more! The main protangist in Glory is seventeen year old Glory Templeton who's blood holds the cure to a deadly panedemic plague and embarks on a journey to save humanity.Glory is a great female protangist and even though she is in danger from human and super natural beings she still tries to stay strong and complete her mission. She cares about the rest of humanity, not just herself.
One of the great points about Glory by Devin O Branagan is that on Glory's quest she is joinged by three supernatural guardians. Kind, independent, pretty, young witch Kaia, good-looking cowboy vampire, Zane and handsomely dark and mysterious angel. Dominic. Along the way we get to know about how each character ticks and how they became who they are all.
We once again like many YA books I think, is a love triangle between Glory, vampire Zane and angel Dominic. I really like love triangles and I really liked seeing how different Glory was with each guy. Passionate and overwhelming with Zane and an intense, caring love for Dominic. However one thing I wasnt sure about was how quickly and intense each relationship got but I suppose when I think about it I can understand the intensity in the situation they all find themselves.
Fianlly how can we forget about Hallie, Gloy's Australian Shepard dog. She is her faithful companion the whole way though the story which was great to see.
Overall I really enjoyed Glory. It has a great storyline, great characters and a great read. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
To say the least for being a book of only 210 pages Devin has packed this book with so many details that keep you turning page after page until you are finished. Glory's paranormal aspects include most of the usual suspects - vampires, angels, spirits, witches and hunters. These paranormal creatures are put into a storyline with a dystopian undercurrent. While it is its own unique series, it does have some commonalities with a couple other YA series. The series that immediately come to mind are Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires, Cate Tiernan's Sweep and Lisa Desrochers' Personal Demons.
In the synopsis, a mention towards Twilight is made. This reference, to be honest, concerned me greatly. Too many (bad) YA books use Twilight as a reference for their story so tried-and-true readers of Vampire YA fiction get a little uncomfortable about such books (and towards Twilight itself because of its vampiric shortcomings).
Glory isn't very heavy on its vampire or angel themes. While both characters play a major role, I felt that magick/witches played a much more central role in the story. That aside - the main Vampire character, Zane, is a little different from the average vampire (he can go out in daylight) and his personality is similar to that of Sam & Michael Glass in the Morganville Vampires series.
Overall, I enjoyed Glory immensely and found it to be a quick entertaining read. I am looking forward to the next book.
Glory Templeton is a pretty normal seventeen year old girl, who just wants to have fun and figure out what she's going to do with her life. Unfortunately for her, she's coming of age just at a time when a lethal pandemic is sweeping the world. Her mother happens to be one of the scientists who is working on finding a cure for the plague, so imagine her surprise when her mother tells her that her blood holds the only hope of saving humanity!
I read this book in one sitting, because I just couldn't bear not knowing what was going to happen. Glory is an interesting story that straddles the sci-fi/paranormal/urban fantasy line. Ms. O'Branagan did an amazing job of capturing the uncertainty and optimism that often go hand in hand with the age group this book centers on. Her characters seem like real people, with flaws, doubts, and fears just like anyone else. I really enjoyed this story, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. :-)
I really enjoyed this book. It grabs your attention right from the beginning and takes you on a journey full of heartbreak, tragedy, love and hope. The main Character Glory is on a mission to find the Scientists who are in hiding and her Mother that's been kidnapped by Scorpio Pharmaceuticals International. They are the only ones that can make an antidote for the public from Glory's blood. Glory's Mom has left her with some information to help her get her mission started and it teams her up with an unusual team of people including her Dad's dog Hallie. She deals with loss, heartache and love along the way. I think this is a great YA book, the violence was kept light and there was no foul language or strong sex scenes. Not all the problems were solved in the first book and it leaves off with a cliffhanger.
Glory was a Pandemic novel turned YA paranormal romance with angles, daemons, vampires and witches, evil corporations and a global conspiracy theory.
It was an interesting take and clever mash-up on the plethora of genres and included a peppering of deeper concepts about God and free will, faith, mortality and sacrifice for the greater good. Despite all that is going on in this book, I feel like it didn't over reach. Each character had depth, consistency and believability.
Sure there was a love tri-angle and an a little bit of teenage insta-love but at least a bit more believable than a lot of the other insta-love stories i have read.
Vampires, but not as we usually see them, witches, angels and a young girl, all there to save the world. Oh, and a brave dog. All against a group of scientists intent at destroying billions of men, women and children. A great story, wonderfully told, unforgettable characters, what more do you want? A sequel, of course!
I ended up DNFing this one about half way through. I just could not get into it for some reason. I did not identify with Glory at all. She was a bit immature for me. I also felt super insta-love not once but twice in this one and after that I just gave up. I hate to DNF and this book definitely had a great concept and a cool story line but ultimately it just was not for me! :(
I was hooked after the first few sentences. I knew the combination of an apocalyptic world, a fight between good and evil and being on the run to save someone would pull me in. Adding the paranormal world of witches and vampires and also guardian angels sealed the deal for me. Moving on to Pretty Sacrifices.
Loved this! So much, in fact, I'm going straight to the next in the series. Wonderful characters, very empathetic and interesting. The plot is fast-paced, but not overwhelming. Thank you for this epic work!
