It's hard to find books about animation that don't concentrate on the works of Disney and/or Warner Brothers. Thankfully, Bendazzi's "Cartoons" takes a holistic approach, providing a useful overview of major animators and animation directors from around the world throughout the 20th century. While his three-volume "Animation: A World History" covers vastly more ground, "Cartoons" can be more helpful as the reader won't get bogged down in long biographies or extensive filmographies, instead focusing on the most important creators and their most influential works.
