Utilizes photographs, maps, and intensive examinations of archaeological findings to reconstruct the historical and archaeological foundations of British society and culture before the Conquest in 1066
Anglo-Saxon England by Jennifer Laing and Lloyd Laing is interesting history book, but the style of the writing wasn't quite for me. There were certain things I was looking forward to reading when it came to those early kings and royalty, but it just wasn't there.
As the blurb states, covers the time from A.D. 400 to approximately 1200. A leaned and complete little book. There are black & white photos on nearly every page, though most are enigmas, at least to me. Written in 1979, re-published in 1982. A book I could put down, and yet it was mildly interesting.
Really, probably 3.5 stars. Disappointing because this is the one I most looked forward to in the series. Not terrible but would've liked to have read of more if the early kings.
