Rate this book
For months, office worker Kevin Lawrence has carried a torch for Joey Goldman, head driver at the haulage company where they both work. One rainy night, Kevin slips and falls on a patch of motor oil and Joey is there to catch him.

Despite being damaged both emotionally and physically from previous relationships, Kevin is helplessly drawn to the dominant trucker. Joey’s muscles and rugged good looks means he never has trouble finding men to take to bed. But no man has managed to get under his skin ... until Kevin.

Life for Joey soon becomes complicated. He isn’t out to his family, but feels an increasing need to be Kevin’s Sir -- to love, protect and guide his submissive lover.

Can Joey and Kevin make the journey together, or will outside forces and internal fears cause them to travel in opposite directions?

I found the whole story melodramatic and the ending incredibly unsatisfying

Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.

Rating: 5/10

PROS:
- I’m a total sucker for stories about abused characters who finally meet someone who is strong and domineering but gentle at the same time.
- I’ve read quite a few books about someone discovering to his surprise that he’s submissive--usually when a Dom comes along and takes a liking to him. It was fun to read a story in which those roles were reversed: where it’s the sub who understands his nature and the Dom who’s just figuring things out.
- Joey’s mother made me cackle more than once. She’s constantly dropping in and pressing her Jewish faith onto her son. Sure, she’s annoying. But Hunt captures the annoyingness of such a person quite well.
- There are a number of expressions used throughout the book that I found odd and a little baffling, but in a good way. I’m not sure whether they’re common British sayings or phrases the author came up with himself, but they often made me chuckle. (My favorite is when Joey refers to using the restroom as “draining the lizard.”)

CONS:
- Saying that I found the ending “unsatisfying” doesn’t capture my feelings about it. I don’t want to include any outright spoilers, but I will say the following: at the end of the book, 1) the story veers off of its established path in a bad way; 2) one of the men makes a mistake that causes a lot of emotional pain for the other, and I didn’t see NEAR enough remorse over that; and 3) they decide in the final couple of pages that the original (HUGE) foundation for their relationship is no longer valid because of another recent development in their lives.
- (This is an extension of the point above, but it’s a big one, so I made it a separate bullet.) There’s not enough time devoted to resolving the main conflict. The whole story moves rather slowly in that it’s chapter after chapter of the men’s blissful relationship--sex scene here, shopping scene there, Joey being protective here, Kevin being adoring there--and then at the end, we get a single scene of resolution after a very emotionally hurtful conflict.
- The characters here do not live within the realm of reality. (Not as I know it, anyway.) Their actions are impulsive and melodramatic, and their emotions are roller-coaster-like: very high highs, and very low lows. Here’s a statement from the story that I think illustrates the entire book’s tendency to avoid logic in favor of convenience or drama (this happens immediately after the two men speak for essentially the first time ever): “As he travelled down the rain-swept streets, Joey realised he hadn’t asked where Kevin lived…he’d just have to take the man back to his place.”

Overall comments: I would have liked this okay if it had ended about three-quarters of the way through. The development at that point in the story unfortunately takes the focus off of the romance and causes a huge conflict that is ultimately resolved…but is not, in my opinion, resolved well.

I barely made it past the beginning of this book. There were many things that irritate me to no end and I had to force myself to push them aside. As much as I was annoyed, there were things that also kept me reading and bottom line, I liked this couple and I wanted to know what happened to them. There was sometimes overwhelming sappiness, sweetness and silliness. It toed the line closely but didn't cross it for me.

Joey was endearingly crude, crass and blunt. I connected with him perhaps the first three quarters of the book and then...not so much. It took me much longer to connect with Kevin and just when I was beginning to, he lost me again . At least he wasn't an annoying brat as well. What I did like about their behavior was that the characters acknowledged it themselves. Sort of like this is who and how we are and that's the way it is, I agreed and liked their honesty.

I don't remember the last book that swung between like and dislike as often as this one did. For all the complaining, I did enjoy the book for the most part. The things that got on my nerves are personal pet peeves more than anything. I'm glad I stuck with it.

My first impression of Trucker and Pup is that it isn’t a bad book. There are some really good parts of the story. However, there are a lot of throw away pieces as well. I think that there are a lot of people that would enjoy this story, I just wasn’t one of them.

The story is about Joey Goldman, a trucker, and Kevin Lawrence, a man who works in the office of the same trucking company. Joey and Kevin become a couple after Joey “rescues” Kevin from a rain storm. Joey is very dominate and Kevin is very submissive. I don’t mind dominate and submissive relationships in books but I did not like this one.

Kevin was a very experienced submissive. Not all of his past relationships had been good so he was skittish about starting a relationship with Joey. Joey had only played at being sexually dominate in the past and didn’t really understand what it meant to be a full time dominate. This is one of the things that I disliked about the story. I felt strongly that Joey needed to learn more about being a full time dominate instead of fumbling around. Joey was depicted as a very sensitive and caring man and I struggled with the fact that he never even mentioned searching out information or help. The other reason that this bothered me is because Kevin is very emotionally fragile. Kevin continually asked Joey for emotional support but Joey just wasn’t sure how to give it. I struggled with why Joey and Kevin didn’t seek some form of counseling.

There is also a storyline involving Joey’s sister and nephew. I could see immediately where it was going and I felt that the steps to achieve the end were weak. There could have been so much tension and drama wrought by these two characters but it kind of felt flat and the resolution was unsatisfying. I was actually left with more questions than answers regarding this subplot.

There was some good tension in the book. There were interesting family dynamics. There was a good relationship foundation started in the story but the HEA was very rushed. Also, Joey’s reconnecting with his Jewish heritage was interesting and gripping but went nowhere. Kevin’s friendship with Terry and Peter was wonderful and I wanted to understand the depth of their relationship. At one point in the book (I won’t say the specific moment because it is a spoiler), it appears that Kevin is more like Peter and Terry’s child or younger sibling but then the storyline is cut off in favor of speeding through the HEA.

In the end, the book felt like a series of really good short stories knitted together into a book. I think that the book would have benefited from removing some of the sex scenes and replacing them with the character building that was started. Drew Hunt has a strong perspective and his writing is good. I hope to have the opportunity to read some of Drew Hunt’s other books in the future.

This was strangely fascinating, despite being relentless about depicting unsavoury bodily functions. *cringe* In that sense it did not feel romantic. However, the romance itself definitely went all out on lovey-dovey stuff.

I didn’t see any attempts to be subtle, but oh does a lot of the premise play into some of my favourite tropes. (Well, the comfort thing rather than the neediness.)

In odd contrast to the heavy realism of the setting and in the details, this is pretty much insta-love and apparently a complete change of personality for Joey (which we don’t really see as it begins together with the story; there’s no “before” to compare to). The love seems to get serious and to a confessing stage in just about twenty-four hours. Very unexpected, given the general tone.
Seriously, the speed here was giving me whiplash. In the beginning it seemed like the romance would take its time to move into sex, but nope.
That was the first switch of gears, and then there’s forever love almost instantly. Whoa. Even as cute as some of their moments are (in a needy clingy kind of way) this felt surreal.

Oddly, it reminded me of some original fanfiction (is it still called fanfiction when it is not based on any fandom?) I read a while back.

The whole treating Kevin like a child or a dog is a bit… uh. But I suppose if this is what makes him happy, there’s no arguing. Plus it really helps that Joey is somewhat conflicted about how deeply Kevin is getting into the D/s. That bit felt convincing.

It’s weird when it comes to sexual terminology here. We have crass words, medically precise ones, and ludicrously purple prose – all mixed up together. Well, it does make for variety so that is something.

I don’t exactly know what the appeal is, but it’s definitely there – and just this side of wrong, too. Very interesting.

Near the end, during the crisis, things become truly heart-rending. Made me cry hard. I count that as an achievement.

In fact, it was only afterwards that something genuinely annoyed me.
I am not happy that the ending
That’s a huge deal, actually. After this amount of pain I needed more payoff than .

I might have loved this book, if it didn't make me laugh in the wrong way so much.

The main characters were great, I really liked them. My problem was mainly the author's writing style. I couldn't really deal with some of the word choices or the sentence structures. I was often pulled from the scene by "did he REALLY say that?!?" and especially some of the sex scenes were riddled with words that made me cackle. Maybe British guys really think like this, but...yeah. Just no.

Also, the ending disappointed me. When we finally got some major angsty drama, it was resolved in what seemed like a few pages. Sadly I really wanted a lot more.

The D/s-aspect of it was handled annoyingly. It seemed like the submissive party was submissive just because he was weak physically and had low self esteem and because of past experiences. There was very little of "I'm submissive because it turns me on and it's part of who I am" or at least it was overshadowed by the constant making sure everyone knew the "little guy" was truly a small, fragile person who needed the big strong dom-ish guy to look after him. Sometimes it worked, most of the time not.

BTW, when the "small guy's" height was told for the first time, I giggle-snorted. I immediately went "oh it's one of THOSE books..." and I was right. Meh.

If there would be a sequel to this, I'm torn between not bothering because of the writing style and really wanting to read it to see where the plot takes the characters.

Oh and the family connection, the women... Just...no. Stereotypical Jewish mother and stereotypical bitch of a sister. Just...no. I've seen these characters so many times they weren't funny, even when they were supposed to be. I could hardly be pissed off at the sister either, she was a cunt, but she was so one-dimensional I couldn't have cared less.

Anyway, it's an okay read if you're looking for a little kink-fill, some sweet mostly-insta-love and some British fun in your story. That's about it.

Wrong book for me, I shouldn't have ventured near it, sometimes its hard not to get sucked in by a great cover. The dominant/submissive part was where it failed so miserably. I know my limitations, next time I will read the reviews.

The reviews on this were either love it or hate it, so I had to check it out. I love it! Ok, Keven is a cryer, and Joey is a crude trucker so he thinks a lot about bowel movements and such, but I still love the story. LOL.

It kind of all works out in the end, and the resolution is kind of quick. It left me wondering what if things had not worked out?

This has been sitting on my shelf since 2011 and since I've made it a goal of mine to hit all these dust collectors this year. I figured it be a fast read since it was a freebie at the time. Didn't expect much...But...
Surprisingly, I enjoyed it.
Even though it had BDSM, something I'm not interested in. It tackled it in a way that I wasn't cringing.
Anyway, I like this one so much that since I had a crappy PDF copy of this story, I went and order the book and am looking for more from Drew Hunt to read.

Reviewed by Kristen: This story had its ups and downs for me.For me, it's quite clear that the author had fun writing this story and while it isn't a bad story I had a few issues with it, mainly the rushed ending.

Kevin is a very experienced submissive who hasn't had only good experiences in the past.I didn't like how whiny Kevin was. I understand that he has really low self-esteem, but this just wasn't for me. Joey, on the other hand, is an inexperienced dominant who is trying to give Kevin what he needs and there are light BDSM elements in the story.Throughout the story, Joey is struggling with whether he should come out and maybe lose his family, or stay in the closet and hide his relationship with Kevin.

There are quite a few other small stories interwoven in this book, which reads more like several shorter stories than one rather long one, but all in all it was a nice read.

Ugh...this was one of those books where the sub was a life-time victim...for me this almost ruins the submissive act because they are just so damn needy. "Oh Sir you are so strong"..."Oh Sir I don't deserve happiness/love/kindness/etc." I wanted to call a halt & get Kevin into therapy...his weeping & clingy wimpiness...argh.

Anyway, there are probably some good points if this is your kind of kink...mild puppy play...cock docking...lots of British-isms...'real' men who fart & share far too much detail about their bodily functions (I really don't want to read about every bowel motion & need to wee *eye roll*).

In a nutshell, I won't re-read this & I would have difficulty recommending it too.

This was the first time I have read this author. I guess the only negative thing that I could say about the book was that it was a bit long on the development of the relationship between the two characters. Also the end came way too quick. The last part of the book needed to be developed more. Beyond that i quit enjoyed the book. You can tell it is written from some one in England because many words are used that are not words we use here in the United States. It does have a bit of Sir/sub activity, but not enough to really even call it a bdsm book. This would be one to try if you have never read any bdsm. I will be reading more from this author.

This was a good book. I enjoyed getting to know the characters of Kevin and Joey. As a love story it was probably slow moving, but the patience that Joey gave Kevin was evident 'from the fall'. There was the slight twist with Joey's nephew, Simon, toward the end of the story which set off a strange turn of events both good and bad.

I will admit that I had trouble getting used to the dialogue of bloke, car park, and lorry. I don't regret reading this book, but I wish I had read more reviews and been prepared for certain things.

Honestly i do'nt get the pup fascination... seriously I am not gonna act like a dog for any man! But whatever floats their boat. The book overall was a good read, and if you like the BDSM roleplay as dogs.. this book is for u. I struggled with it, especially with the sexual act like a dog scenes...its just not my cup of tea. However the author did make me cry, which is rare!

I did not enjoy this book. I spent over 75 percent of it wondering when it was going to be over. It was so way over the top with drama, crying, character personalities and inappropriate word choices. It was painful to read in some ways. I couldn't connect with either MC.
