This is a beloved childhood book, well worn and full of creases. I recently discovered in an old box. The illustrations bring back great memories of reading in my room. Who decided creepy fairy tales were appropriate for kids? I'm sure the tales are full of violence and all kinds of stereotypes. But I'm going to re-read these stories and try to remember my childhood impressions. It's a beautiful book, edited by a long time librarian in the NYC Public Library system.
This was my mama’s childhood fairytale book that she recently found and brought home. I remember hearing vivid stories about this book. Her memory of it, particularly the illustrations, painted such a crisp, beautiful picture and getting the chance to see it in person and read it and hold it in my hands was such a special experience. A wonderful collection of fairytales, made sweeter by my mama’s memories of it.
It's always interesting how different fairy tales become from book to book. I think I would consider these the older, more original version. Beautiful drawings in this old book.
