SISTER OF THE BRIDE is book 2.5 in the Fool's Gold series. A quick novella, only 77 pages long but one that had me giggling out loud with almost every page. Katie needs a date for her sister's wedding. Her sister, Courtney is marrying Katie's ex fiancé, Alex and Katie knows this is going to be the longest four days of her life. Her mother won't stop nagging her until Katie has a date for the wedding. Katie finally agrees to let her set her up with her moms best friends son, Howie. Ugghh, his name is Howie and all Katie can remember when she met him nice was that he was a nerd and mean to her.
Well, when Katie is finally reintroduced to Howie she learns he goes by his middle name, Jackson and he has really changed. His is a hot gorgeous guy now and Katie is instantly attracted to him. Sparks are going to fly if she can keep him away from her aunt who has a habit of going after unavailable men! SISTER OF THE BRIDE is a great addition to this funny series and I'm excited to continue with it. All of the characters are so funny, well except for Katie's sister who was pretty much Bridezilla! Katie's family is hysterical and I hope to read about them again in future books. Susan Mallery knows how to hook her readers from the very first page and never lets them go.
I LOVE Susan Mallery and I love her books. With that being said. I enjoyed reading this short story. And despite the fact that this book is a work of fiction, one can only hope love arrives just in time when we desperately seeking for it and longing for it. That's basically what every woman wants and Susan Mallery knows exactly how to write it. Kinda wish she was the author of "my" love life. In "Sister Of The Bride" Katie's sister is marrying her ex. The very guy she stole from her own sister about a year ago. But I must say Katie handled that gracefully because if my sister stole my boyfriend she would have received a lot more than just a boyfriend. Just saying. LOL. So days before the wedding, Katie's mom keeps harassing her about finding a date so that the family won't have anything to say about her being dateless. So just to please her mom, she lets her set her up with her mom's best friend's son. Not knowing what to expect, Katie braced herself for a nightmare but was delivered a beautiful dream. Her date turned out to have blossomed through out the years and he was a HUNK. As they face obstacle after the other during the wedding, the true question was. Will the chemistry between them two continue past the wedding festivities? Will you can only find out by reading the book. You won't be disappointed. It's a lovely short story and here's a catch ladies. It's free at border's I believe for a few more days. So hurry up and grab the ebook edition while you can. Because this book is definitely a Good Choice for Reading =D Here's the link to get her free ebook of "Sister Of The Bride" To hurry because it's only for a limited time. http://www.borders.com/online/store/T...
Katie McCormick's ex-boyfriend is marrying her sister. When her mother insists on setting her up with her best friend's son, Katie reluctantly agrees even though she remembers hating Howie as a kid. But the Howie who turns up is nothing like she remembers and soon they can't keep their hands off each other.
A sweet and sexy second chances romance. Katie and Jackson make a charming couple and their chemistry is fantastic. My one regret is that Katie didn't punch her obnoxious sister in the nose.
Qısa və olduqca əyləncəli bir kitab idi. Baş qatmaq üçün oxuya bilərsiniz, kitab çoxuna boş gələ bilər ancaq fikrimcə qısa olması və hadisələrin uzanmaması yaxşı idi
I'm Glad My Siblings Are Brothers Katie McCormick knows all about the concept of adding insult to injury. Not only is her spoiled younger sister marrying Katie's ex-boyfriend in a four day event that is destined to make her stomach turn, but her mother is pushing her into accepting a date for the interminably long weekend with the son of her mother's best friend. Howie. They'd met once when Katie was thirteen and Howie about sixteen and the scrawny, nerdy brainiac didn't exactly endear himself to her. Her mother, though, is intent to torture her...though she's couched it in concern for hard family questions about her still-single status.
Howard Jackson Kent, who goes by Jackson now, is equally disdainful of the idea when his mother pushes onto him the idea of accompanying Katie as her date. He remembers their one meeting years ago. Katie intimidated the heck out of him and threatened to beat him up. It was a less than auspicious beginning that he had no intention of seeing go any further. Nobody, however, can manipulate like a mother, and he reluctantly agreed as he girded himself for a weekend of torture.
When they meet again, however, it's blatantly clear to both that the years have been kind. Katie's turned into a real cutie and Jackson's the definition of eye candy. As they get reacquainted and find out they have quite a lot in common, a new friendship and sparks of attraction fly fast and hard. Maybe their mothers weren't such horrible tyrants after all. And maybe it's true...love is really always in the last place you look.
I had a pretty good idea very early into this novella that I wasn't going to be as happy with it as I'd hoped. Katie's sister not only stole her boyfriend, but is marrying him a year later. That's just skanky. And while Katie is now over it, I couldn't help but genuinely loathe her sister for that...and for every single scene she was in. The spoiled, petulant witch needed to have her bouquet stuck somewhere far less pleasant, let me tell you.
But the story isn't about her sister. It's about Katie and Jackson. They were fine characters, though a little two dimensional. There's not a lot of time to develop characters in short novellas such as this, though, so I'm pretty forgiving about that. I'm less forgiving about the cliched aspects of the plot (five minutes in and I knew exactly when I'd see Katie and her ex come face to face), and as a reader, I hate romances that shove strangers together and have them falling in love and getting engaged days after meeting (or, as in this case, re-meeting). I'm all for Happily Ever After, don't get me wrong, but it's so hard to maintain a suspension of disbelief in those cases. It didn't work for me at all.
The wedding festivities were, admittedly, over the top with the hijinks, but there was also plenty of humor there and I did appreciate how Jackson handled some of Katie's less than pleasant relatives and a few dicey situations. In fact, I don't have any complaints about either of them as characters and am forgiving of most of the constraints that the novella-length story put on the plot. It was the overall concept of the plot, the wretched sister from hell, and the completely implausible culmination of their weekend that I didn't like.
Katie and Jackson. An unwanted blind date turns into insta love. So like the blurb says, Katie's ex and her sister get a case of insta love... while he's still dating Katie. Now the love birds have created the wedding from hell complete with a bridezilla... and Katie has a front row seat. Not that she cares, except for the pity looks everyone gives her. So maybe being talked into a blind date with her childhood nemesis isn't such a bad thing? Better than showing up single to the wedding right? But wonder of wonders, Jackson (AKA Howie) has changed into a hunk, and she's improved too. They hit it off immediately but wedding chaos surrounds them and all they can do is ride the craziness together. OW stuff isn't a big deal It's a cute and a fun, nicely paced read. Sure it's kinda insta love, but it was nicely done so that I wasn't bothered by it.
Short and sweet. Perfect for an afternoon in the sun or an evening with a glass of wine.
Mallery returns readers to Fool’s Gold with a hot & fast paced romance that oozes emotion and realism. She draws readers into her tale, allowing them to experience it alongside the readers. Mixing comedy with the difficulties of being the only single female at a family wedding, Mallery created a fantastic tale that I could not only relate to, but that I could barely put down.
The sister in this story was perfect in her self-centred annoyingness. She was a definite counterpoint to the caring nature of our heroine. She also served to highlight the goodness & hero qualities of the male lead. As easily as Jackson and Katie could have held their own in a full length novel, their whirlwind romance was perfect for this novella. The dynamic between the two was off the charts.
Sometimes a novella is just the thing. Mallery has definitely proven that with this one.
Rating: 5 Stars!! Review: This was My First time reading a Romance Novel by Susan so i wasnt sure what to expect but i have to say i really enjoyed this one more then i thought i would.
The Characters were fun and enjoyable to read about. Isabel and Dan were definating my favorites not just because they were the main characters but because i loved learning about the history of Marriage in Native American Culture which was facinating to read.
The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like i was actually in Washington State while reading especially when the scenery was described.
Overall a Wonderfully Written Romance!! Can't wait to read more by Susan in the future!!
I was intrigued by the set-up for this story in Chasing Perfect: Katie is forced to agree to spend a four day wedding with the geeky boy she hated as a girl. The fact that as soon as they meet, they discover they're both great-looking now and really like each other was a bit of a letdown, with the conflict for the story, what there is of it, mostly coming from wacky wedding high-jinks. But it was a likeable short read.
I love Susan Wiggs, but I think I loved the Lakeshore Chronicles so much that I can't give this one a fair shake. Too short for as much character depth as I'd like. But, overall a very good story. I enjoyed it.
Trying to find a way to let my goodreads friends know that SISTER OF THE BRIDE, my story in the SUMMER BRIDES anthology, is available as a free download this week only at Borders! Hope this is an okay way to spread the word.
-short -not so bad writing style, but it's mostly dialogue -cliché character with no depth. very one dimensional. -loved the dialogues between howie and ... i forgot her name. edit : It's katie* -story simplistic. very straight forward, no suspense whatsoever
Rating: 5 Stars!! Review: This was only the 3rd Contemporary Romance I've read by Susan so I kind of knew what to expect but I have to say I wish this book had been longer only because I felt it ended too quickly.
The Characters were fun and enjoyable to read about. Katie was def my favorite. Didn't care for her mom much she came off as pushy.
The Setting was beautifully described which made me feel like I was actually in the book while reading especially when the scenery was described.
Overall a Good Contemporary Romance. Can't wait to read more by Susan in the future!!
This is one of the funniest, most capativing, romantic, and sweetest book, I ever read. The entire story was quite intriguing and unpredictable. The author did an an excellent job, by using humor, to show how to elevate stress during unpleasant and difficult times.
When Katie McCormick finds out that her sister is marrying her ex, she finally agrees to a setup for the big day. To her surprise, Jackson is a catch. But when wedding catastrophe ensues, will their sparks fizzle or ignite into flames?
Sister of the Bride is a very short sweet read. Katie is briefly mentioned in Chasing Perfect when Charity's new friends have a girls night in and Katie is getting drunk as he sister is marrying her ex.
Katie and Jackson's Mother are best friends and are determined to try and set them up together. Katie and Jackson first met when Katie was 13 and Jackson 16, long story short they didn't get on and Katie threatened to beat Jackson up. Fast forward to now and Katie and Jackson have been trying to avoid there Mother's match making ways but Katie can't take the pressure anymore with her sister's big day looming much too close and finally lets her Mother set her up with Jackson. But they've both changed and not only do they instantly like each other there's chemistry. The rest of the book is four days worth of wedding humour and Jackson and Katie getting acquainted, (in every sense of the word) and falling in love.
A lovely short read that reminds me why I liked Susan Mallery in the first place.
I always hated such plot. Whereby sister who snatch your boyfriend away. And kept pointing out about your shortcoming and jealous of her scenes. This book totally fulfill that area. But luckily for that, the ending comes out good for me. Cos the mc in the book have their happy ending. As for the family members, I think I wanna puke. I mean having a bitch sister, a bitch aunt and those family members who only know how to point out Katie's flaw endlessly. I dunno why she would want to attend such event. As for her ex, Alex, he's another asshole. Sorry for the language but I just couldn't put it off this remark. Lol....... TBH, I'm glad Katie manage to have her HEA with Jackson. And TBH, I was hoping that her sister wedding will turn out disastrously.. ^_^
Quick, fast, fun, free read! What's not to love? I got this a while back but only just now read it because I never read Pia's book, Chasing Perfect, and just got a copy at the UBS. Not interested in her story just yet but couldn't pass up on this one.
Her sister is a mean bitc&, btw, and does NOT deserve what she got...gorgeous wedding, happiness, etc.
The heroine, however, is FANTASTIC. The hero is SEXY AS HADE*. I believe in their HEA and LOVED that he, unintentionally, SHOWED UP THE BRIDE AT HER OWN WEDDING BY PROPOSING!!
Yes!

Katie's sister is marrying Katie's ex-boyfriend and Katie desperately needs a date for the wedding. Katie's mother sets up a date with her best friend's nerdy son, Howie. But it turns out Howie is no longer a nerd. He now goes by his middle name, Jackson, and he is every woman's dream. Katie and Jackson hit it off immediately. They seem to be the only sane people at what promises to be the wedding from hell.
This is a cute love at first (or second) sight short story. Katie's mother was very funny. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
For me, this story was lacking depth. It was a bit too vanilla with the sister of the bride kindling a romance with her blind date. Her blind date is the nerd turned hunk who is now a millionaire. Heard that one before? To top it off, the spoiled selfish sister and the douche bag groom were all a bit cliche. I think that I need more character development and plot, so I think this will be my last from this author.
This novella was a really cute story. I loved how the two moms had been trying to get Katie and Jackson (aka Howie) together for years. The first time that they met, they were both in their teens and it was not a very auspicious meeting. Needless to say, their renewed acquaintance sent sparks flying, in a good way.
Over-the-top crazy families usually both me with their outrageousness - but not this time. This time the family was an excellent and enjoyable complication to this love story. I also LOVED the hero and heroine. Both a little self-concious. So cute.
