I've had this book for years and constantly use it for reference, look up things, pass along information from it, and recommend the book to others who are pursuing some part of what is considered part of homesteading. I like that the different subjects are presented by their natural timing in the year. The author's experiences gained and knowledge learned through him and his family living on their own productive homestead is invaluable and presently plainly. This is a great addition to the library of anyone wanting to live in a more self-sufficient manner, learn how to produce their own foods, and learn what is like to have a busy and productive homestead.
Despite the fact that this book is obviously dated, I enjoyed it very much. I felt the gardening and food gathering sections were as timely now, as they were when this book was written. Many other sections were applicable to today's technology as well. I would love to see another book by this author written now, years later, telling us if the homestead life was still working for him and his family.
