Flash! The Associated Press Covers the World edited by Vincent Alabiso (Harry N. Abrams, Inc. 1998) (070.435) (3758).

This book was published to mark the 150th anniversary of the Associated Press in 1998. It features iconic photos and a couple of essays about the history of the AP.

The sole criteria for selecting the photos included herein appears to have been that the subject or event was deemed particularly noteworthy by the Associated Press editors. They had quite a pool from which to select these images; when this volume was published in 1998, the AP had won the Pulitzer Prize for photography 43 times!

Here’s the most amazing piece of trivia that I gleaned from this selection: the first Associated Press correspondent to die in the line of duty was a guy named Mark Kellogg. He died because he was riding with Custer and the 7th Cavalry at Little Bighorn.

Now THAT’S cool!

I purchased a used PB copy in good condition for $0.25 from McKay’s Books on 6/1/22.

My rating: 7/10, finished 4/5/23 (3758).
