*4.5* This was such a delightful little novella!

She was a fire in his blood. He didn’t know what he’d do without her.

Historical age gap m/f romance
Younger man, older woman
She’s a widow
He is a known rake
Sweet, sensual, no drama
Slightly OTT ending with a fairytale HEA

Julia (31) married a man much older than her when she was 19. A year after he passes, she decides to take a lover, and has her eyes set on an old friend.

Garrett (26) has known Julia since he was 14. Now that he is older, and well-versed in the pleasures of the flesh, he is looking to settle down and find a wife.

Julia has heard the rumors of Garrett’s prowess, and doubts he would be interested in her, but she is willing to take the chance. Little does she know that he has been keeping his eye on her as well.

When they both admit what they want, it was high intensity sexual attraction and intimacy.

It was enough to stare into his eyes and feel his body moving within hers. She’d never been so utterly connected with someone. The moment was fraught with intimacy, and she almost wanted to weep from the intensity.

I did not want this story to end.

“Your mind,” he murmured, his deep voice washing over her, making her skin hum. Oh, she could drown in the sound of his voice. It rippled and flowed like smooth honey, and she wondered what she might do if he whispered wicked things in her ear with that voice.

She liked that word. Fucking. It was indecent. Wicked and deliciously wrong.

This was a cute little novella. For me, 3.5 stars means it's worth a read, but it would be something I might borrow instead of buy myself. Full disclosure: a romance novella has to be absolutely fantastic for it to get a really good rating for me. With such limited space, the author really has to work to give me some type of satisfying character / relationship development.

This is my first Karen Erickson read and I was definitely interested enough to want to browse through her other works. She's a good writer and there was some nice chemistry between Julia and Garrett. It was a little hotter and more modern in terms of the sex conversation, and the plot does revolve around them wanting to start a purely sexual relationship with one another and then both falling in love. Nonetheless, this did not read like a romantica/erotica and I would not classify it as such. The relationship begins as a lust-based one, though there is mutual respect and liking from the beginning, and because it's a novella most of what we is their sexual relationship, however it still does fill the erotica checklist and is relatively tame in comparison.

As a rule, I hate instant-attraction lust-based one-night-stand romances (especially for HRs) - unless they're romantica/erotica - but here I didn't have as much of a problem with it. Neither Garrett nor Julia "plays games" (not really enough pages for that, but anyway ;-) and Julia's vulnerability and unfulfilled desires feel very authentic. They both come off as mature adults, which was a nice change from some of the recent romances I've read. I loved it when Garrett started to get possessive of her and that when he confronts her with his feelings, she doesn't pull a ploy of making something up to put him off, but rather tells him the real reasons she thinks that they would not suit: she's older than him, she probably can't have children, etc. Again, great show of maturity.

What was missing for me was a fuller picture. I wanted more of the background on Julia and Garrett's previous relationship as family friends and wanted more of their individual character history. Because it's so short and everything happens so quickly, I didn't feel like we ever really got to know them as individuals.

{ Bottom Line }
Not a must-read by any means, but a pleasant story if you have an hour to fill. I liked it for what it was and think the author has talent; am hoping she has some longer works already published that I can enjoy.

Delightful, sensual, scandalous…for that time period...younger man, older women romp! Garrett Walker, Earl of Bedingfield, has known Lady Julia Renwick since he was a young man. Now at 26, he would be the ultimate catch of any young debutante, but he has his sights set on the 31 year old widow and she’s got her eye on him. Julia offers him a proposal of a two week tryst as her lover, but once he gets a taste of her, Garrett wants forever! Julia has never experienced such erotic intimacy, uncomfortable at first; she then embraces Garrett and his sexuality, whenever and wherever she can! It was delicious! When he declares his love for her, oh my, it was like something out of a fairytale and set my heart a flutter!! What a joy to read!

Will there be a book for Sir Reginald? I certainly hope so, he was an admirable man!

At 31 years old and a widow, the Dowager Lady Renwick has never been able to indulge in satisfying bed sport. Her deceased husband was much older than she was, and let’s just say he was no master of the sensual arts. Finally out of mourning, she decides that it’s time for her to indulge in an affair — and who better to do it with than the incredibly sexy Garrett Walker, a known rake who is also every matchmaking mama’s dream?

Garrett enters into the affair knowing that Lady Julia is only a temporary amusement. What he didn’t expect, however, was her beautiful responsiveness and his own possessive pride in teaching her about carnal enjoyment. In a very short time, he realizes that not only does he not want his affair to end the Season, but that he also can’t imagine spending his life with anyone other than Julia.

Sometimes you just need a good historical novella, and this story came to me at the perfect time. While I of course enjoy longer works, I did feel that this was just the right length for the story that needed to be told. The chemistry between Julia and Garrett was wonderful, and I’ve always been a fan of the “affair that turns to love” plot line. The chemistry was wonderful, the love scenes were very well done, and while their relationship progressed very quickly, I never doubted their feelings for one another.

Recommended for fans of widows daring to be scandalous, young rakes blindsided by love, and a sweetly romantic Grand Gesture.

A very enthusiastic 4/5 Stars.

This was a lovely little romantic story, provided by netgalley.

The plot is pretty self-explanatory, and it's really an enjoyable romp with two nice people. We do get to know the hero and heroine, but we don't get much in the way of character-development. Having said that, the changes in their outlook fits well, and there is nothing jarring about the story or how it ends.

It's moderately steamy, and probably would have benefitted from a bit more smut IMO, but it held my attention and it was a nice read.

3 stars. "I liked it".

By now, if you're one of my blog followers, you already know my weak spot for older woman/younger man stories. You all know that I've basically `robbed the cradle' as it were, by marrying a young man that's twelve years my junior, and that I'm enjoying every minute of our life together. And because of that, it came as no surprise to me how easily I identified with Lady Julia Renwick. Here she is, at thirty-one and a widow that most of her married life suppressed her sexuality. Her husband was older than she and her passionate nature had been subdued by his proper lovemaking. As this story opens, she finally makes the decision to take a lover. This decision wasn't made lightly. She even has a man in mind.

Garrett Walker, the Earl of Bedingfield is twenty-six years old, and he's known Julia since he was fourteen. His father was friends with her husband and they belonged to the same circles. He watched her from afar and liked her very much. He respected her and now that she's widowed, he wants her as his lover. His desire for her is overwhelming and all-consuming for him to wait, so he sets out to seduce her.

As these two passionate people come together for a one Season's liaison, we're treated to a very hot and sensual romance that is too short. I wanted this to keep going, and going and going!

I loved this strong and determined woman. She acknowledges who and what she is. She has no grand illusions about this `affair of the lust' and she is more than ready to experience the passion only Garrett can give her.

Oh, and now I come to Garrett! From the moment he asks Julia to dance with him, I just knew I'd like this rascal! He doesn't give a rat's ass of what society thinks of him. He is arrogant, handsome, and sought after by a bevy of beauties, married and unmarried. He wants none, but Lady Julia. Every scene written with them just sparkles and sizzles! From the garden scene, then the carriage scene and their bedroom scene, I just enjoyed it all. The end of their story just made me cry. How cool was this Dude! I'm not spoiling it for you when I tell you I shed happy tears at the way they get their HEA! Karen Erickson wrote a very erotic romance that melted my heart and gave me a hero to remember for a long, long time. So the long and short of it is this: Lady Julia Renwick and Garrett Walker were putty in the hands of Karen Erickson who has managed a perfect balance between romance and erotica with this short yet still sweet and heartwarming story.

Widowed Lady Julia Renwick longs to experience the passion so lacking in her marriage to her late husband, a much older man. She contemplates taking a lover for the remaining two weeks of the season but there is only one man who stirs her, an old family friend, the handsome and charismatic Garrett, Earl of Bedingfield. But why would such a man, who could have any woman he pleased, be tempted by an older woman such as herself?

Julia is unaware that Garrett has watched and desired her for months and when she plucks up the courage to ask him to be her lover, he willingly accepts. What should have been only a temporary, no strings attached affair becomes something far deeper for Garrett as he watches Julia blossom into a radiant, charming and passionate woman. He soon realises he has fallen hopelessly in love with Julia but persuading her to become his countess will take more than mere words!

I was immediately captivated by this story and the interesting older woman/younger man theme. Julia is adorable and when she asks Garrett to be her lover, I love her nervous babbling, which reveals all her insecurities:

"I know you have other interests, other things you should be doing, such as searching for a proper wife. And I know I'm older than you, and you probably don't find me that attractive, and perhaps you just kissed me due to some odd, impulsive behaviour-----"

It is delightful to see how the time spent with Garrett gradually transforms her from a shy, insecure, inexperienced woman into a radiant, confident and passionate one. What woman wouldn't blossom under the attentions of someone like Garrett? He's not only gorgeous, charming and virile but also thoughtful and kind. I love the fact that he wants Julia so badly:

She was a fire in his blood. He didn't know what he'd do without her.

There is real chemistry between Julia and Garrett and their feelings always seem natural. I felt Ms Erickson made the development of their feelings for each other from pure lust to something far more profound very believable. For instance, Julia's thoughts suggest something far deeper here than mere physical sex:

It was enough to stare into his eyes and feel his body moving within hers. She'd never been so utterly connected to someone. The moment was fraught with intimacy, and she almost wanted to weep from the intensity.

The fact that they spent time talking, sharing their dreams, laughing, teasing and simply kissing all suggested a depth to the relationship making falling in love seem natural.

As you would expect with an erotic short story, the love scenes are steamy but never crude and Ms Erickson manages to tailor them perfectly, many scenes being implied rather than actually shown. This means the detailed love scenes have more of an impact and do help to move the story forward. My favourite is the carriage scene and I love Julia's reactions:

She'd never done anything like this before. Her husband had only made love to her in a bed while lying on top of her. This...this was shocking. Exciting. Thrilling.

I applaud Ms Erickson for giving me the chance to experience one of the most romantic final scenes I have read in a long time. To say any more would spoil it but it is certainly sigh-worthy!

If you are looking for a short story to curl up with on a rainy evening, I can certainly recommend LESSONS IN INDISCRETION. I am definitely anticipating reading the second novella in this series, Her Christmas Pleasure.

Originally reviewed on Romancing the Darkside:

An enticing, sensual historical romance!

Lady Julia Renwick is a widow, who after mourning her late husband for three years is ready to have another man in her life, even if it comes in the form of a discreet, casual fling. Julia has her eyes set on the available and handsome Garrett, Earl of Bedingfield, a man five years her junior with plenty of women to choose from and who also happens to be a family friend. When she finds herself all alone with Garrett at a nightly function, Julia wastes no time in propositioning the charming Earl into sharing her bed until the end of the season.

To her surprise, Garrett reveals his interest in Julia and willingly accepts to be her lover; he finds her intoxicating and jumps at the chance to have her. Both Julia and Garrett think they understand the rules of the game but over the course of a few weeks, everything changes. While Julia tries to come to terms with the end of the season and ending their affair, Garrett refuses to renounce the woman who has awakened emotions new to him and will stop at nothing to make his feelings known.

I'm a huge fan of historical romance and this short and sensual novella is no exception! It's usual for the man to pursue the woman in these stories, but here we have Julia who's an older woman who knows what she wants and goes for it in a time which strictly forbids this attitude in a woman...you've got to love that! Garrett is a suave and sexy bachelor with experience and an impulsive sexuality that will leave you sighing. Their encounters heat up the pages but it's the moments where they exchange personal stories with each other I found most charming. Julia and Garrett have undeniable chemistry and although their relationship develops quickly, it doesn't feel rushed or questionable.

Lessons In Indiscretion is a sexy and scandalous read for those who love daring women and lustful rakes!

This was a short historical romance provided to me via NetGalley. Lady Julia is a widow and after just coming out of mourning, has her eyes set on taking a lover. Not just any lover will do for Julia as she has her eyes set on one particularly dashing Lord; Lord Garrett Bedingfield. Lady Julia is nervous to approach him with the offer of being her lover for the remainder of the season, but, unbeknownst to her, Lord Bedingfield has had his eye on her for quite some time. Only after being convinced she's mourned properly does Garrett feel he can finally approach Lady Julia.
What starts out as a typical no strings attached sexual relationship, quickly turns into something much deeper.
This story was pretty predictible and had all of the usual points that "sex-only" relationships have. Normally, I am quite a fan of reading stories that are strictly about sex, especially if it's nice and steamy, but sadly, even the sex in this was not something to write home about. I am a new fan of historical romance and one of the things that really turned me on to historicals is all the "history" throughout the novels. This, unfortunately, lacked a real sense of historical for me as well.
Two stars, and that's being generous.

For a very quick book, I actually enjoyed this one very much. The chemistry between Garrett and Julia was hot! Although one small complaint about this book would be that it way too short! If only the author had lengthen the story and gave the couple the development that they deserved, it could have been a great historical/erotica romance novel. It's not to say that i did not "love" this book. I really liked it and Julie kind of broke my heart too because she firmly believed that she wasn't good enough for Garrett. Their romance was actually hard to believe at first... but I had to give credit to Julia/Garrett for the fact that she had known him since he was 14 years old. They had time for their relationship to grow? I'm not sure, but either way, it worked. Even if she was five years older than him.

Anywho, very intriguing quick read and I would actually be interested in reading more from this author. The scenes between the hero and heroine was extremely well-done and I loved the sensuality of it. Not to mention that Garrett talks pretty dirty... for someone from the peer. Overall, 4/5 stars!

This is my very first story by Karen Erickson and it wont be my last.

Lessons in Indiscretion is only 58 pages, but gives you a taste of everything you want when it comes to romance. You can easily read this story in one sitting and not feel that there should have been more.I am not a big erotica romance lover and to be honest I am not sure if this story was erotica, but if it was I am happy that Erickson did not go to over board when it came to the sexy scenes. It was just right.

Garrett was one super smoking hot character. From the very beginning the little conversation Garrett and Julia have, you immediately fall in love with him. I also really liked Julia. She was very shy and naive when it came to certain things, but she decided that life was to short and she needed to take a chance. That is exactly what she did when it came to Garrett. She took a chance and got exactly what she wanted and more.

I really liked this short story. I am now on the hunt for more stories by Karen Erickson.

5 out of 5 stars!

Lessons in Indiscretion is the first of the Merry Widows series put out by Carina Press. This one is a very quick read, coming in at 18,000 words. Sometimes I don't know why I torture myself reading novellas. I always want to know more about the characters. I enjoyed Julia and Garrett's story. They were great characters. This one had a nice twist, Julia is the "older woman" by 5 years. Back in their time, what a scandal that would have made. I recommend this one if you want a quick escape. The story is well written with steamy and sensual love scenes.

A delightful historical novella set in the 19th century and with just two weeks left in the London Season, Lady Julia propositions Garrick, Earl of Bedingfield. They commence a fast and furious affair they have agreed will only last until the season ends. But just those first few encounters change Lady Julia from a frumpy and not-very-glamorous widow to one who is sought out by numerous suitors. Now Garrick is left to decide what will be his response to this eventuality. Ms Erickson has written a novella that may be a quick read but which is so well done that the story doesn't suffer because of the brevity of the format. Very enjoyable and well-worth reading. One of the best historical novellas I have read recently.

A nice steamy novel that would have been so much better if it had been longer. I do so love a nice naughty carriage scene.

The one downside is the heroine has a typical stereotypical ho hum, my first husband never gave me good sex and I had to lie back and think of England for the two minutes. But then she meets the scandalous, walking orgasmic hero and she's more than willing to have him show her what she has missed most her life. And it lasts much more than just two minutes with too many "O's" to count.

Fast read with some steamy bits.

Another hot novella, but set in a Regency period.

Karen Erikson is another of my favourite erotica writers and this novella was a delight to read – I gobbled it up. Widow Julia is fresh out of mourning her much older late husband and sets her heart on an affair with the dashing (and younger) Earl of Bedingfield. She doesn’t realise he’s been attracted to her since his teenage years and is only to happy to have a dalliance.

De-lish-ous :-)

Shorter than I expected but still well worth the read. I'm amazed by how much story and (well written) erotica was packed into this sweet little novella. If you're in the mood for a classic spicy romance but don't have much time, this is a good bet.

Lessons in Discretion is the first erotic novella in The Merry Widows trilogy. It’s a sensual and scandalous romp.

Lessons in Discretion: Garrett & Julia: 5- stars

Widowed Lady Julia Renwick is only thirty-one years old but thinks she’s too old for a lusty suitor five years her junior. However, contemplating taking a lover for the remaining two weeks of the season, she considers him a suitable experience and dives in on the affair.

Garrett Walker is the perfect catch for any one of the Season’s debutantes but he has no interest in the maidens vying for his attention.

Garrett and Julia’s chemistry felt genuine and playful. The depth of their friendship grew as they spent time talking, sharing their dreams, laughing, teasing, and eating together. Their sexy times were explosive. It was such a natural connection.

I highly recommend this novella. Good start to the series.

Lessons in Indiscretion by Karen Erickson
* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Lady Julia Renwick is lonely and she sets out to do something about it. She has been eyeing Garrett Walker, the Earl of Bedingfield and decides it’s time to finally approach him with her request. To her amazement, he is happy to help her out of her predicament.

Garrett Walker has known Julia since he was a young boy. He enjoys her company and takes matters into his own hands when he asks her to dance. Little did he know that it was going to lead to an all consuming affair with her that he might cost him his heart?

Julia may be a widow but she is still young enough to want/need someone to love her. She doesn’t have any money or family to offer a dowry so she sets out to find a few moments of stolen passion. She isn’t looking for love, just someone to help ease her loneliness. She is a strong female character, aware of her place in society but she’s not willing to let society dictate her life. I like that about her.

Garrett surprises everyone, including himself, when he asks Julia to dance with him. He doesn’t mind giving them something to talk about. He is sought after by all of the eligible females but they can’t hold a candle to Lady Julia. He is a handsome, confident bachelor that is more than happy to oblige Julia’s request. He didn’t anticipate losing his heart to her.

The carriage scene was very naughty and I loved every minute of it. The characters are very hot together while still complementing each other. I love how they stole secret moments at some of the biggest events of the season and no one figured out what was going on. It’s amazing how they were able to keep their affair a secret until the end.

I loved the ending; it was probably my favorite part of the book. When he asked her to be “his countess” I melted. It shows that he not only have they been having blazing hot sex, they have taken the time to get to know each other too. He realizes her hang-up is that she doesn’t think she’s good enough to be the Countess of Bedingfield.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and give Lessons in Indiscretion 4 Flaming Hearts.

LESSONS IN INDISCRETION is a short read at only 18,000 words. It’s a pretty straightforward, well-written story. If you read the back cover blurb it covers pretty much what happens in the story, no more no less. Julia has recently just come out of mourning and is feeling alone, she also has a major crush on Garrett, the Earl of Bedingfield, the son of her much older husband’s best friend. Garrett is known for his amorous encounters and Julia hopes that he would see fit to take her for a lover for the reminder of the season. In two weeks everyone will have left London for their country homes and she will be left alone. Garrett who has always had a sort of a crush on Julia agrees and they have an amorous encounter.

After this encounter is where LESSONS IN INDISCRETION lost me. While their encounter was steamy and sexy, I found myself wanting a little more after that. At first I tried to say it was because LESSONS IN INDISCRETION was such a short story. I wanted to use that as an excuse for not getting emotionally invested into Julia and Garrett, but then I recalled other short stories that had engaged my emotions and left me wanting more. I didn’t get that feeling with LESSONS IN INDISCRETION. There are several things that are hinted that are not explored and I felt that they could’ve been even within the confines of the limited word count. Julia is scared about pursuing a deeper relationship with Garrett because she is older, she hasn’t had a child with her older husband, and that she is poor. Garrett has some issues with developing a deeper relationship with Julia because of lessons he had learned from his father. I would have enjoyed LESSONS IN INDESCRETION more if Julia and Garrett had a deep conversation about these issues. As it stood, it was my impression that the only reason Garrett and Julia wanted something deeper is because the sex was great. There were hints of more, but I wished those hints were explored more.

Despite my issues with LESSONS IN INDISCRETION it is a well written, steamy story that just wasn’t about sex. For the great price, I’d recommend giving it a try. I’d be interested in reading a longer story by this author.

Sexy, audacious younger man tempts a lonely widow. This isn’t a battle of wills, this is a sweet yet spicy story of an affair that leads to deeper attachment. Lady Julia Renwick is portrayed as a nice lady who wants some hot love action and is willing to take risk to attain it. The younger man, the Earl of Bedingfield, is a well-done rakish sort with sensitive, caring side who gives her a gentle push into temptation. The whole story is imbued with a good historical feel. Julia’s actions and thoughts are believable for a widow of her time; she doesn’t come across as anachronistic in her manner. The way the affair transpires was also believable and suited the times.

Ms. Erickson’s writing clear and deep in character perspective and sounds historical without being flowery, awkward or wordy. The love scenes are sexily written and infused with plenty of emotion right from the start. Their attraction is instant, steady and overt. The sex happens early and there is no conflict over it. Julia and Bedingfield want the affair and do not hide it from each other. There’s mild tension over Bedingfield’s vast sexual expertise and Julia’s relative lack of experience. Later some conflict arises over Julia’s doubts and insecurities about the age difference. These conflicts are worked out in a way that is believable and satisfying.

It is a light, straightforward love affair story that turns into a HEA. A very enjoyable quick and sexy read with just the right touch of romance.

An enjoyable read ;)

This is one thing f those sweet sweet books that's cones along that you definitely Do Not Hate, but it doesn't really inspire your love really either... While I definitely would love q Garrett in My life ! Neither he or the very sweet Julia didn't really do much for me either, like cotton candy the story went down smooth and sweet but did not leave me wanting more.... Like one reviewer I read liked was the absence of game playing and coyness and abundance of honesty, and I to appreciated that as well...
I abhor game playing ( unless they both know and agree to doing just that and then it's only enjoyable if it's well written the chemistry between the characters is good ) and I deeply dislike lack of honesty between my characters and all the times miscommunication or lack there of is used as a plot device to sting out a story with mistakes and differences that could have been done without or avoided all together if the characters had taken 5 minutes and just talked honestly with each other, and while I appreciated the honesty and like the plot it's never really moved me or became a story I could put down...
While I would recommend the story as a pleasurable way to spend some time I do feel strongly it should be much cheaper.
Either . 99 cents to a $1.99 unlike the $2.99 I believe I paid for it..
No offense but I've bought much cheaper books that not only had 4/5 times the length/pages but were better reads..

Julia and Garrett have known each other since she was a newly married 19 year old and he 14. Now, 31 and widowed, Julia finds herself contemplating a tryst with the oh so handsome Garrett the last two weeks of the season. She finds him very attractive and he’s been paying attention to her at the ton events, so she figures now is her chance for a little excitement before everyone leaves London for their country estates and she’s left all alone.

Garrett only wants one woman and that’s Julia. When she suggests their affair, he figures he’s gotten what he wants. But with the season about to come to a close and their number of days together about to end, Garrett realizes he can’t go without having Julia with him, always. The trick is going to be convincing her she’s worth it to be with him.

This is a very, very quick read. Although it wasn’t bad, I felt like I was missing something (for those who may not have read any of my other novella reviews, I think this is a problem on my part, since I keep expecting to get more). I needed something about Julia and Garrett’s history. Why did she feel unworthy? What did Garrett see when he spied on his father and Julia’s husband? (I have an idea and would explain why she never conceived).

Not bad overall, but I really wanted more.

Lessons in Indiscretion, by Karen Erickson. The story is set in the Regency period, but this is certainly not an old-fashioned Regency! Widowed Lady Julia has decided to take a lover, and has set her sights on a younger man, the Earl of Bedingfield, who has been a family friend since he was 14. Now he is 26, and her husband is dead and she is out of her widow's weeds. While Lady Julia nearly scandalizes herself by her desire for the younger earl, she is surprised to discover that he is just as interested in a liaison with her! She believes that, due to the difference in their ages and stations (he is very wealthy, she is not) that he will be tired of her in a short period of time. He, of course, being the hero, finds himself enchanted and surprised by his possessiveness. Their secret affair brings out the sparkle that she never had, and other men find her both interesting and desirable.

I wanted the story to be longer. There just wasn't enough of it. Everything happened in less than 50 pages. One lunch and it was over . I could have stood just a little more plot. But for something to while away an hour, it was good fun.

Lessons in Indiscretion by Karen Erickson is a highly entertaining and sensual story. Despite the fact that it is a historical romance, it is not boring. No, it is far from boring. In fact it was told in such a bold way that I have no doubt that the people who lives in the regency era would have toss and turn in their graves if they knew that their era has been fictionalized in such a way.

Lesson in Indiscretion is highly arousing and I highly recommend it to those who have not much time to read. The book is not particularly lengthy and rather short for a historical romance. Perfect for a lazy afternoon read.

I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. I received an ARC of this book from Carina Press via Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review for it and I was not compensated in any ways for this.

Lessons In Indiscretion is a hot little historical short story. It features Lady Julia, a widow who wants to have an affair with a younger man. Garrett is happy to indulge her desires. The two become lovers, and Garrett helps Julia come out of her shell, both sexually and emotionally. Julia doesn’t think the two of them can have any kind of future, since she is 5 years his senior. But their passion transcends their reservations.

The story is only about 54 pages, which will keep you from getting too emotionally invested in the characters. But it was a fun, sexy romp with a happy ending. I enjoyed it. Almost 4 stars.

Normally, I don't care for short stories or short novellas but Lessons in Indiscretion is well done! Ms. Erickson managed to give the reader a glimpse of Regency England and what was expected of a wife of those times. Now that she is a widow, the heroine decides to enjoy herself and possibly discreetly take a lover while she is still young enough. She picks someone she has known for a long time who is also very attracted to her. What follows is a short story of their falling in love and their HEA. A lovely historical short story and I look forward to the rest of the Merry Widow series. I just hope the rest of the stories in the series will be longer.
