A billionaire, a movie star, a secret crush. A Gilligan's Island re-run? No, just your typical high school reunion!
What could be worse for a former high school beauty queen, who never landed the only man she ever loved, than attending her 10-year high school reunion alone? Not much, according to textile designer Jane Louise Jones as she prepares to endure the weekend in her hometown, just south of nowhere in the rolling hills of Louisiana.
To make matters worse, Morgan Sherwood , the town boy-wonder who made good in a big way, arrives with his entourage in a stretch limo, and he's not a geeky kid any more. He's six feet of tanned, rippling muscles, and he plans to focus his high-powered brain and every seductive charm he possesses on the lovely Miss Jones.
With a former classmate intent on claiming the billionaire as husband number four, a Hollywood starlet who shows up to party with Morgan, and an old boyfriend intent on stealing Jane's affection, Morgan has more obstacles than he'd expected.
Throw in her grandmother and the rest of the blue-haired, matchmaking women of the Vernon Ladies Bridge Club, lots of southern charm, a ten-year old betrayal, and plenty of humor for a heartwarming—and heart throbbing—sexy romantic comedy that will leave you with a smile.
Joan Reeves is a New York Times and a USA Today bestselling author of Contemporary Romance. Her novels have been published in a half dozen languages, and her ebooks are available at most ebook sellers with audio book and print editions also available. Several of her books are available in French editions through her publisher in France.
Joan lives the philosophy that is the premise of all of her romance novels: "It's never too late to live happily ever after." She lives her happily ever after with her hero—her husband—in the Lone Star State.
When not writing romance—or nonfiction to share what she has learned in life—Joan divides her time between the hustle and bustle of Houston and a small house in the Texas Hill Country where she and her hero sit on the porch at night, look at the star-studded sky, and listen to the coyotes howl.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 This was a sweet, short read even if it was very predictable and nothing made it really stand out, but I still enjoyed it very much. There's a lot of miscommunication between our two main characters which takes a bit from the story in my opinion but not so much that you can't enjoy it. Overall this was a story that was fun and easy to read, perfect for a day at the beach or something like that. A good light and fluffy read.
***I received this book for free from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Jane stared at the plastic tag and said she refused to wear it. She wasn’t some boy crazy teen, or a desperate woman on the make. She was a successful business woman.Jane was a textile designer. So what if she wasn’t married. Jane was at her ten year HS reunion. Often Jane joked with her family she traveled through a time warp from NYC to her sleepy hometown in Vernon, Louisiana. In NYC she was J L Design in her hometown she was Jane Louise. Than her best friend from HS - Amber grabbed her arm and spun her around. She asked Jane if she was excited. . Jane had been following Amber’s lead since they were kids. Amber was the impulsive adventure and Jane was the impulsive adventure and Jane was the careful analyst. Amber put the tag on Jane and Jane just left it there. The reunion was a perfect chance to catch up with Amber.Only with Amber Jane confessed to her growing dissatisfaction with her life. Lately she thought about a home and children and not in a loft in NYC. Jane admitted she never knew how much she loved “home” until she left. Jane had shared everything with Amber since they were kids. Jane thought Amber would tell her if he-Morgan- was going to show up. Morgan was the most famous alumnus of the from that HS. He went out in the world and made millions.Another friend Felicia said she was looking for husband number three and pointing herself toward Morgan. Than Amber jumped in and asked if she forgot to tell Jane Morgan was coming to the reunion. Jane decided she would leave. Jane had just said she wasn’t impressed with Morgan when Morgan spoke behind her. Morgan had been Jane’s secret boyfriend in HS. Jane had never forgotten him or his kiss. Something had driven them apart in the past. Little does Jane know Morgan still had feelings for her just as she does for him. I enjoyed this book. It was a quick, easy, fun read with some drama thrown in. I thought Felicia was just to forward towards Morgan it annoyed me. I did find this predictable. At times I did get annoyed both with Jane and Morgan. I did like the pace and plot. I would have liked the book to be a little longer to show more of Morgan and Jane together. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.
This is a light and fun read. I'd never read this author before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I am a fan of small town romances, and quirky characters so Jane Jones appealed to me. Jane is a single New Yorker headed home to small town Louisiana for her high school reunion. There are several quirky characters, and of course there are the requisite high school reunion expected characters...the shallow and pretentious mean girl/boy etc. In fact many characters are a little bit cookie cutter and stereotypical, but this is kind of cotton candy, so it didn't really bother me. The main plot involves Jane and her high school secret boyfriend, Morgan. Morgan was a nerd in high school and he's grown up to be very rich and successful and of course, hunky. They parted ways in high school and he's always been the one that got away. Jane has convinced herself that she doesn't care, but who are we kidding? This is a romantic "comedy" so of course there are lots of clutzy misunderstandings and honestly, a few times I just wanted to smack both of them over the head. But overall, this is a quick and enjoyable read, perfect for a flight or a vacation read, or when you're having a bad day. I could definitely imagine the last part as a scene from a rom/com movie. A little silly, but cute. 3 1/2 stars.
I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is a short but fun story about Jane Jones going home for her ten year high school reunion. She really did not want to leave New York and her business, but her best friend has brought her back home to Louisiana. The one person she was told that was not going to be there of course shows up. That is Morgan Sherwood. He is now a very successful business man and has also helped out the town and the school. Even though the two of them liked each other during their senior year a third party came between them and is now still working at keeping them apart. They now must work at finding a way to be together or they will just have to move on to separate parts of the country. A funny but good story. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com
I received a free copy of Jane I'm Still Single in exchange for an honest review. The first thing I noticed was the cover of the book, and I couldn't wait to get started.
I enjoyed Morgan and Jane's story and their happy ending. Joan Reeves did a great job writing, but the plot was just "ok." There really wasn't anything that made this book stand out, except for some of the "one liners" shared between Morgan and Jane in the beginning of the story which I found very entertaining.
If you want a quick and easy book with no real surprises, then I'd recommend this book.
I enjoyed this story. At first, I thought the title was weird, but the reason behind it becomes clear from the first page. The characters were well described. The situations seemed realistic. The story had plenty of romance with sides of humor and drama. Most of the drama was caused by people eavesdropping or listening to the wrong people rather than talking directly to each other, but every romance must have some angst. I would read other stories set in this town just so I could get further adventures of the Bridge Club.
I loved this book. Guilted by her best friend, Jane returns to her hometown to attend her ten year high school reunion. Jane like most kids, Jane wanted out of the small rural town to make it, in the big city. The big city being New York and she did make it big. If you have ever gone to a reunion you know some things change and others stay the same. No spoilers, but this is a truly a delightful easy read.
DNF about page 60ish - I couldn't stomach the leading lady anymore, she just kept loudly blurting out nasty, bitchy stuff behind other people's backs, and her best friend is one of those sex crazed types who won't shut the hell up about 'getting it out of your system'.
What a difference ten years make. Jane Jones, an attractive twenty-eight year old woman comes home from her New York life to attend a reunion at her small town high school. Moving from Vernon, Louisiana to New York after high school to study art and was now a successful business woman. With no little trepidation she now returns to her hometown. This trepidation stems from the confrontation with her old classmates; one in particular, Morgan Sherwood. Morgan is Vernon’s iconic success hero. In the ten years since high school he had created a successful business and accumulated an impressive fortune. Most of the other classmates had moved on to different parts of the country with varying successes and failures. Someone had once said that you can’t turn back time and that once gone, you can’t go home anymore. Is it true? Can you rekindle the smoldering ambers of infatuation and recreate a new blaze of love and passion? These and many other questions are answered in this light romance. I would categorize this story as a women’s romance and would undoubtedly rate higher with female readers. Although the title may be suggestive of another book (Bridget Jones Diary), there is no comparison as they are both refreshingly different and unique. As a confirmed bibliomaniac I devour and enjoy books of many genres and although I’ve enjoyed this narrative I wouldn’t like to make a steady diet of it. This said I have no doubt that most female readers will consider this a gourmet treat.
This book would have been a solid 4/5 stars had it not been for the overwhelming amount of typos and grammar mistakes. The editor must have been asleep when they were supposed to work.
First of all, it's called "cookie" if you're eating it, not "cooky". Some areas might use it as a local slang, but it's not how Oxford's Dictionary spells it. The whole "cooky/cookie" thing made the first part of the book nearly impossible to get through, and I was considering giving up. Only thing that kept me going, was remembering how much I liked the other books I've read by this author.
Then there was some "flower/flour" mistakes, words missing, letters missing, too many letters in some words, and then words that didn't belong anywhere. These are the kinds of mistakes you find in a manuscript before the editor sits down to do their job, especially when it's this many. Had the editor done their job, this would have flowed much better and the reader wouldn't have been pulled out of the story every five minutes.
It's really sad that a sub-par work by an editor is ruining otherwise a very good book. Because Ms Reeves writing is tight and witty, and the main players do so many silly things you can't help but laugh. And I loved the ending where the heroines daddy gets to put the hero in jail. You know, just cause his daughter told him to. This book is cute and funny and witty and sweet - if you're able to overlook all the mistakes.
I found this book entirely predictable, and there's not a whole lot to make it stand out. Jane was the high school beauty that moved to New York City to go to art school. She's a textile designer, but her job is pretty meaningless in the context of the story- it's never really mentioned at all. Morgan was the scrawny high school geek, who went to California after graduation and made millions. They were secretly in love with each other in high school, but they went their separate ways with each feeling betrayed. At the ten year high school reunion, both Morgan and Jane are willing to believe the absolute worst about each other, even though they secretly in love. At some level, I just was so frustrated with all the miscommunication that was going on. Morgan overhears something Jane is saying, and he takes it out of context... so he sets things up to bring in his movie star arm-candy, and the cycle continues. They are both so busy doing things just to irk the other, I just wanted to scream that this could have all been cleared up ten years ago if you'd just TALKED to each other! I also found it bothersome that the reunion was a whole weekend of things to do. I was more interested in figuring out the logic of having such a big spectacle for just a ten year reunion... theoretically, this would be a yearly occurrence in the small town. I found my mind wandering to this sort of speculation, because the story was rather bland and predictable.
This story reminded me why I didn't go to my class reunion (well that and 3000 miles) and why I would kill my best friend if she ever did this to me.
Jane Jones is back home in Louisiana to attend her 10 year class reunion. Since graduating, she's built a prosperous design business in New York. The only thing missing in her life is someone to share it with. Although she doesn't want to admit it, she's still scarred by the broken relationship she had with her secret high school boyfriend.
So when gets to the 1st event to the reunion, she's presented with a name badge that announces that she's still single and she finds out her secret boyfriend will be attending the weekend festivities after all. She's even more put out when she discovers that her best friend is behind the awful name badge and knew Morgan Sherwood (secret high school boyfriend) was coming and never said anything to her.
What follows next is some comical events of Jane and Morgan trying to one up each other in a game where neither one of them really knows the rule. Throw in an ex-classmate trying to find herself husband #3 and Morgan's "girlfriend" and you've got a somewhat predictable story that was still fun and easy to read.
It's a great beach read or, if you're like me, while floating around in your pool with your kindle in a waterproof bag.
This entire book is about a simple misunderstanding between high school sweethearts that could easily have been resolved at any time. But the characters both harbored such resentment against the other that it was hard to imagine them together at all. I like books with substance that make me think, or that relate to me in some way, and this book does neither. The book made me feel agitated; I wanted to scream at them to get over their stupidity already!!! It was so frustrating reading about all the times they could have come clean and chose not to for the sake of prolonging the book (and prolonging the irritation). The characters were likable, and it was well written, but the plot centers around such a small obstacle that I was unable to truly enjoy it.
Cute story about Jane and Morgan who had a secret relationship in H.S and things happened to complicate that, which led to Morgan leaving after they graduated and them never speaking again. Meeting again at there ten year reunion brings to surface old feelings and steamy kisses. Things happened very fast in this novel, but thats why we read romances, for the fantasy. The secondary characters coupling was unnecessary and a little rushed, but still a very cute story!!
This was a cute little story about a woman who's come home for her high school reunion to realize she's still hung up on the boy who left her high and dry. He's made a mint since then, and is still hung up on her. There's a Big Lie in their past, that has to be ferreted out, and a Big Misunderstanding resulting from that evil eavesdropping, but it's still a cute story. I enjoyed it.
This was a very simple book. I enjoyed the characters, the love story, and the drama that went with it all. I would love to know what happens to the characters after the story wraps. I know they got their happily ever after, but they spent so much time overdramatizing everything that I didn't get to enjoy the happy moments as much.
I just discovered Joan Reeves and I have to say her sense of humor just tickles me. Her dialog is very witty and interesting. I liked the story. I liked pretty much everything about this book. I found a few other of her books listed and am going to check them out as well
I pick this book...well because it was $0.99 and I love having something new to read. I have now read all of this author's books. It had clever dialogue and a sweet sappy ending. The husband mocks, but I'm a sucker for a fun, not so racy romance. A nice easy summer read.
