Amber Kell has made a career out of daydreaming. It has been a lifelong habit she practices diligently as shown by her complete lack of focus on anything not related to her fantasy world building.

When she told her husband what she wanted to do with her life he told her to go have fun.

During those seconds she isn't writing she remembers she has children who humor her with games of 'what if' and let her drag them to foreign lands to gather inspiration. Her youngest confided in her that he wants to write because he longs for a website and an author name—two things apparently necessary to be a proper writer.

Despite her husband's insistence she doesn't drink enough to be a true literary genius she continues to spin stories of people falling happily in love and staying that way.

She is thwarted during the day by a traffic jam of cats on the stairway and a puppy who insists on walks, but she bravely perseveres..

She also writes under the name Mikela Q. Chase

I liked this one a lot at first but by the end the inconsistencies and unanswered questions just made me not enjoy it

What I love about Amber Kell's books is that they are like watching a wacky sitcom.

This one was about James and Lou. James is a 23 year old man with horrible rhuematoid arthritis. His father hates shifters and James loves them so James escapes and moves to a town full of shifters. it's the same town from books #1 and #2.

James and the sheriff Lou, who's a bear shifter, have been eyeing each other since James rolled into town. James thinks no one would want him because he's almost crippled, addicted to the pain drugs his father makes for him and too scrawny. Lou wants James no matter what.

Getting into the story would kind of ruin the whole thing for someone who hasn't read it. So, I'll say this: There's a bear shifter who randomly shifts and ends up naked, a lion shifter who randomly shifts and ends up naked, an evil organization (muahahahaha) that experiments on shifters, lots of ripping people apart (literally), lots of blood that comes with the ripping apart of people, and the return of that crazy lion pride and it's lone wolf.

Dear Amber Kell,

I really hope the next pride story will be about the cute little fox shifter and Dennis. I need a hint. Please, just a little hint.

It was sweet, I liked how the relationship was building, Lou was so damn sweet all nervous and gentle around James, And James was endearing, even thought he had a little self-esteem issues he wasn't as scared to love as other characters, then all the thing with his family, it was good, but i had some issues with this one thought.

The first time Lou and James are together supposedly James is still in pain to be standing up fucking Lou, i would have buy it if James was laying down and Lou was mounting him, but not as Amber put it.

I enjoyed the pace of the first half but once James wakes for the second time in the facility after being kidnapped, it lost it, like suddenly Amber realized that she didn't had enough pages to write everything she wanted, and so everything felt compressed and rushed from there, five or six characters were introduced almost at the same time and no explanation about why/how all the doors in the facility were unlocked.

And a lot of human people died and they just shrug it, i mean, i know most of them were bad people, but some might have been employees lied into believe shifters were bad and stuff, and in the end is like if they were just disposable, I kind of understand now how these people think shifters are cold bastards.

and the bad girl was very stupid in the end, why did she went to confront James father when he was around two shifters who could easily protect him?, why didn't she wait until he was alone or take with her some tranquilizer doses to put Lou & James out first?

So yeah, i enjoyed it, but it wasn't as good as the first two books.

I was looking forward to Lou and James' story since book one. Although I love Lou and James was okay, this one was a little bit of a let down for me. The story was slow and dragged at times, which is saying a lot given how short these books are. The relationship development (overall) between Lou and James was lacking and, when it did happen, abrupt. On the plus side, I did like the father-son dynamic between James and his dad.

Bottom line: lackluster.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

The big Bear of a Sheriff finally gets his story and I think if you have read the series you probably figured out who his mate was destined to be. Before too much can happen though Lou will have to help his man figure a few things out.

James is crippled with pain and can barely walk some days. I think out of all the mates we have met so far he is my favourite for his sheer tenacity. What he thinks of as a lifelong illness may be something else entirely and why does the small town full of shifters call to him when his father is so against them.

There is clearly more going on than meets the eye and Lou and James are determined to find out who is behind it all and try to put a stop to it before it’s too late for James.

I actually liked this one the best of all three. This is a very straight-forward bite-size increment shifter series, but this story went a little bit deeper. Instead of a simple outside threat, there were a few more plot twists and I found not only James' illness a nice change to the series, but the particular reason for his affliction. It was more interesting and seemed to have a bit more meat behind the story. Much more enjoyable.

My Favourite of the series so far.
I really liked Lou the protective bear shifter and James his mate. I felt for James and his chronic pain with the Rheumatoid arthritis.
Its hard to discuss this one without giving away the storyline, but it was an enjoyable read. I did find the dad’s girlfriend storyline a bit out of left field but just went with it.

These books have a slightly different mythology than your run-of-the-mill 'Forever Mates' style SHIFTER M/M ROM.

Meh. Non-sensical, overdramatic. Too many questions too little answers

If it takes a reader 5 seconds to figure out the "Arthritis", why the main hero is so stupid? If shifters were a secret and he didn't know about them it might be believable. Now his father is shifter hater, gives him pills for his "Arthritis" which is unique and all. What, he never went to a doctor? Sure parents are the best doctors. No need for specialists. No need for a second opinion either.

I don't remember if fated mates is a known thing or no. If it's known, our sheriff is one stupid shifter. Got my answer. He is stupid. Why to even have the instinct to recognize your mate if you are too stupid to figure it out.

Are coincidences really necessary? Overdosing just after being asked out on a date.

Sure spoil all the mystery to everyone in the first pages. Wouldn't it be more interesting to not have it explained in one paragraph?

And some questions sound strange. "Did you want..." used for asking about the future, present. I've never seen this.

That's completely insane. Does "People against werekin" sound like an outreach program, a way to get werekin's attention to humans? It has word against. Maybe my English is worse than I think. That's completely stupid. Not one person thinks that this isn't a hate organization. Apparently, only it's founder. I think this makes the top 10 in stupidity.

After years of misunderstanding his fathers view towards shifters all is resolved in one conversation. Didn't they talk before? I guess living together never gave them opportunity for a chat.

A romance of gigantic proportions, A Prideless Man brings readers back into the world of shifters where you will meet James, a man who lives every day in pain that has a supernatural cause and Lou, a Kodiak bear shifter who is also sheriff. Bring the two together and throw in the black market and you have a paranormal romance to delight the senses.

These characters were briefly introduced in previous books in the series and they finally get to have their own story. The plot was well thought out; the story flowed well and will keep you reading all the way through. It's a short, quick read. Like many shorter novellas and stories, this book could have been expanded. However, unlike some short stories that leave you with unanswered questions or wishing there was more to the story because of lack of detail, this book provides a well-rounded story that ties everything up neatly in a satisfying package.

Many of the books coming out today are filled with lots of sex and just enough plot to connect the intimate scenes. It was a joy to read a shorter book that had plenty of plot and used romantic, erotic encounters to heighten the story and bind the two main characters together.

This is book three in the series. Town sheriff and bear shifter Lou finds himself attracted to human James who takes a lot of medication for arthritis. When he accidentally overdoses on his super strong meds, it's discovered that he's actually a shifter and it seems his father who runs an anti-shifter organization has been giving him drugs since he was a child to restrict shifting. Now James has to deal with being a shifter and finding himself mated to Lou and it seems his father's organization is a lot more sinister than he was led to believe. Once he confronts his father they get to the heart of the matter and James is kidnapped by the bad guys to be an experiment. It was what it was. It was kind of interesting that James was physically handicapped by his chronic pain (even if once he figures out he's a shifter he's cured). I'm not sure if I was happy the father was not the bad guy so as not to fit the cliche, or whether I was disappointed because it was rather anti-climactic once they talked. Can't please me huh? This one had a bit more story going for it than the last one so it was an improvement.

If you have read any of Amber Kell’s books, especially the others in the series, then you know what to expect of her writing style. If you don’t like that kind of writing don’t read it.

This isn’t the best written, plotted, and detailed, with great characters books out there. Amber Kell’s books are more about enjoyment. This is light read with fun characters and a guaranteed HEA.

Lou is the Sherriff and he has been interested in James for a while now. James believes his life is too much for anyone else to handle. He is in constant pain that is BARELY control by his medication. Lou won’t take no for an answer where his mate is concerned.

I enjoyed the characters and the read. This is not a deep read nor is it the best writing. The plot line is simple and easy to follow, predictable. The characters are a bit shallow. The overall read is a simple and fun read. This is a read to have when the day has been hard and you need a pick me up that is easy.

Amber Kell's stories are quickie read for me. While some feels like repetitive, but it's nice for in-between lengthier books.

This one, is one of most enjoyable stories of her. The charm came from both the MCs. A bear-shifter sherrif, who yawn and cannot look at the other person when nervous? That is just adorable! I love the idea of a bear shifter, definitely a different take than the usual wolf or feline species. I want to hug Lou since I imagine him being so fuzzy :). James, his mate, is also adorable when he is in his lion form *grin*

Not sure about the quick turn of James's father. I guess I am not expecting his reason to be that of trying to protect his son (I'm so ready to hate him because of what he does to James, it's a throwing me off the loop a bit). But I guess it's nice to know that after everything, James still has his family.

I just read this story this morning. I tell you what I wasn't let down. I never am with Amber Kell stories. Everyone always says they are to short but how can you complain when there are so many of them AND I think it's WONDERFUL that you still run into the same people from the other stories. You surely can't say that about a lot of series that you read. So I would like to say WONDERFUL story as always and I can't wait to read more.

I enjoyed reading this. I read the previous two books in the series and this is, so far, the best of the three for me, though I am disappointed that it was short. The two main characters were very easy to like and it would have been great to have spent more time with them. The bear-shifter possessed strength, vitality, physicality, and sensuality, combined with a sense of humor and a nurturing streak.

Sweet Bear shifter and Sheriff meets his mate.....

This installment sees Lou and Adrian get together but it's more about Adrian's back story, his Father and PAW than the MC's relationship ship. With one scene of making love and, from memory, no declarations of love this was my least favourite in this series.

Nice story! Another series that has me addicted. James as a lion was really adorable ^^
Although after reading this book I've still got one question: What happened to his mother? How could she abandon her mate???

Lou the bear shifter is adorable. James has been in pain and under a huge misconception his whole life. The two are so cute together, but it did feel like there were a lot of unanswered questions. Who is the crazy coyote? Where is James mom? Dennis sister? Who were shifters sold to? Etc.

This one is definitely my favorite so far. James was adorable and finding the solution for his life of pain was great. Louis the bear shifter was just plain sweet and gentle until he got angry and then, watch out. Together these two were wonderful.

I loved how beautifully Lou and James meshed together, and finding out what was causing James's pain was definitely unexpected. This is the best one so far, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next one.
