I Can Do It Myself is a picture book written by Emily Perl Kingsley. This book has not won any awards but it is a useful book. This book is intended for ages 2-5 which is preschool through kindergarten.
This book teaches children how to do a variety of different things all by themselves. Some examples include: brushing you teeth, making your bed, tying your shoes, getting dressed, cleaning your room etc. This book also teaches children how be independent and that they need to try different things all by themsleves.
I rated this book with five stars because it teaches children a lesson that is important to learn as they are growing up and start becoming more independent. The illistrations in the book are coloful and feature characters from both Seseme Street and the Muppets. The plot of this book is encouraging and once children are finished listening to the book it makes them want to get up and try things all by themselves. I think that every teacher teaching kindergarten and preschool should read this to their students just like i will if I teach that age group in the future. I may even figure out a game or activity to go along with the lesson.
This book was about being independent. It illustrated members of Sesame Street doing activities on their own like putting their things away, making their bed and pouring their own juice. It depicted some characters demonstrating self dressing skills like buttoning their clothes and putting on their shoes. As well as taking care of their community by watering plants. It showed characters practicing gross motor skills by riding a tricycle. It depicted fine motor skills with the characters writing their name on the chalkboard. It also showed some characters exhibiting household responsibilities such as setting the table. It had great examples of self care and good hygiene by showing characters combing their hair and brushing their teeth on their own. This book was well illustrated and exciting to follow along to see what else each Sesame Street character can do on their own. This is a great book to promote self autonomy for young children. I would recommend this book for teachers and caregivers as well as occupational therapists.
Good book for guiding children in their journey of independence and self confidence. The muppets show That they can comb their hair, button buttons, put their toys away etc.
An all time favorite that led to my very first sentence over 30 years ago. This is now out of print but I found it on #Thriftbooks and got it to read to my Goddaughter who is also starting to do things herself.
A nice share of a favorite childhood memory. This Christmas I am sharing copies of my favorite childhood novels with the children in my life because reading is a lifetime of adventure.
I absolutely love this book because you have those kids that are so determined to be independent, like my nephew. He constantly was saying I can do it by myself. So this book was great since it showed all the different things that kids can do themselves. Like buttoning their jacket, making their bed and so forth. I often tell my son when he says he can't do things that he can do it all by himself.
This book shows the routines children go through on a daily basis. In this book everyday actions come to light through the characters on Sesame Street. The television show inspired this book to help children with reading and self-help. The Muppets from Sesame Street are the main characters through the book. I feel like having well known characters that have been helping kids learn for a long time is a great way to make sure
Being the first book read to me as a kid, I have been a huge fan of the great inspiration behind the words. The reader is giving the kids encouragement to do it themselves. While encouraging kids to do it themselves they are providing them with ways on how to complete the actions. These childhood milestones are very important to kick start a child’s ability to do things on their own.
The texts are very simple, small and bold. On the other hand the illustrations are very overpowering on each page. Teaching the kids to learn through pictures and not just through the words. The illustrations of cartoons in this book bring a lot of warmth to each one of the characters. The background has very little color and is faded so there is more attention drawn to each one of the actions that the characters are doing. There are brighter colors that make up the characters to attract attention there.
Easy to memorize, and since everyone loves Muppets (or they SHOULD) then it doesn't get too tedious to read this nightly.
A short book, the different things the inhabitants of Sesame Street can do by themselves (writing a name, riding a "bike", getting dressed, brushing teeth). Cute is the name of the game, and this is pre-Elmo days, so he isn't bursting onto each page talking in third person. This book has a vintage feel, and a "gentle" feel. A good quiet book, but not a story.
This is the first book my daughter read all alone. My baby brother also read this book to my mom several times a day when we were young. I just feel it is really a book that leads your child on the right path to being independent. Great read!
I like this book because it shows the routines children go through on a daily basis, can do by themselves like getting dressed, brushing teeth, and riding bike. This is a great book to read to children who are at that stage of trying to do everything themselves.
This was the first book I was ever able to "read". I was 4 years old. I recently found it at the Friends of the Library used book sale and picked it up for my daughter. She loves it too.
