An interesting albeit brief look into the basics of wine, including summaries of the different wine-producing regions and their specialties, grape types, and a brief summary of the wine production process. Also includes explanations of the words usage and language of the 'wine tasting' and some food pairing ideas for different wines. A nice introduction to wine for those with little to no knowledge of the drink's history, processes, and the components that make up a wine's quality. I found it enlightening as I have always been more of a casual wine drinker than an expert! ....Note...My favorite wine is sauvignon blanc, and I've yet to experience the 'cat pee' nose....But, there's a first for everything, I guess.
This is a short, easy reading book that covers basic wine information. I especially like the tour of countries and their wine producing regions. Some of the producing areas can be very confusing (France) if you jump in to far to fast. This book is just about right. Swallow your snobbish wine pride and read this well written guide to wines. Enjoy!
Knowing wine is a little more interesting than learning trivia, just like understanding baseball is a little more complex than being able to recite stats. For a much better intro to the subject, read "Fear of Wine" by Brenner.
I really enjoyed the brevity of this book, the trivia and the geography related to wine. This is a good addition to the library of someone developing a wine book collection. The varietals and pairings are great.
