Η Μέλοντι ανέλαβε με πολλές επιφυλάξεις τα νέα της καθήκοντα. Όχι γιατί είχε πρόβλημα με τη φροντίδα των παιδιών, αλλά γιατί δεν ήξερε αν θα τα έβγαζε πέρα με τον πατέρα τους. Ο Έμετ ήταν ένας άντρας που κάθε γυναίκα θα τον ήθελε δικό της. Και ο ίδιος δεν προσπαθούσε να κρύψει τον πόθο του για εκείνη. Γιατί τότε, παρά την αμοιβαία έλξη που υπήρχε ανάμεσά τους, τα πήγαιναν σαν το σκύλο με τη γάτα;

Is it too late to call social services for three kids who in 1993 are being raised by a bitter, neglectful father after their selfish mother left them for another man? The bitter, neglectful father also does the rodeo circuit because it's fun, pays a lot of money, and keeps him away from his kids who remind him of his wife and failed marriage. The bitter neglectful father hates the virgin heroine (who is the sister of the man his wife ran away with), but he has to rely on her to take care of his kids when he lands in the hospital with a severe concussion.
I guess I'll have to chalk up his subsequent behavior to the head injury, because suddenly he finds himself attracted to heroine. He also decides he needs to move his kids to DianaPalmerville so he can manage a ranch there instead of following the rodeo. He even starts to rethink his decision to bar their mother from seeing her children - but that's a bridge too far until the eldest runs away.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. The kids were rude and rudderless and the eldest thought nothing of losing the heroine's cat while they were staying with her. The hero makes things worse by marrying the heroine without clearing the air about their mother or making them feel secure. Threats of military school? Really, dad of the year? You're impossible and I don't see what the heroine saw in you at all except you're taller than she is in heels.
*sigh*
They get their happy ending when the heroine uses her brown belt in something to kick and karate chop the men menacing the eldest boy - earning his respect. The hero already knows he has a doormat who is 15 years younger than him and willing to put up with his temper and poor parenting.
The selfish mother (who turned her runaway kid away on the phone) finally comes to visit a couple of months later. She's now pregnant with the family she wants not the one she walked out on. Gross.

I should have known. Why? Overall GR rating is a 3.98, but GR Friends AND StMargret, who knows all things DP, poor thing - StM not DP, rated it 1 star.
Awards go for numerous and creepy sex scenes and some of the worst parenting ever. The H and his hairy chest are besotted with the heroine and her breasts and he proves it by smarmy sneering and leering.
The H is a horrible father, teetering between laughing at his bratty children’s antics then coming down like bag of bricks. His awfulness is exceeded by his ex-wife who ran away and remarried (the heroine’s brother incidentally) and hasn’t seen them in over a year, but everyone knows how loving she is because of her sweet voice. Yuck.
DP did a good job with the eldest son and head demon spawn's inner turmoil and fear, but when that's the best part of the story you have bad romance.
I don't know why I do this to myself. Unrealistic characterizations all around. Plus not as concrete as I like my stories to be. Got this in a trilogy at the UBS and I was bored I guess.
I did not like this book. She was given a raw deal with him. She is going to have all the work and none of the joy of having her own family because he has 3 already. I hated that! Even his ex wife who left her own kids get to have more and the heroine is left without anything but the leftovers from the ex. I have only read this book once and I would not even reread it.
Once again, I found the story too short for any real development of feelings between the characters. What made it seem especially unrealistic was how how Melody loved Guy after the way he treated her. Love doesn't just come that deeply, or that intensely that fast.
I did not look at reviews before reading this. I really should have looked at Stmargarets review first. I went into this blind. It has been a few months since I have read a DP book, and since I am in Yellowstone withdrawals I thought it might be good to look into one of the LTT books I hadn’t read.
🛑SPOILERS ABOUND IN THIS REVIEW, BUT HONESTLY THERE ISN’T MUCH TO SPOIL!🛑
Well this looks promising…enemies to lovers story. Let all that delicious tortured angst begin….
Emmett and Melody start exchanging barbs in the office of mutual cousin Logan…… Hmm, ok well it is early on in the book…..Uh oh, the H has a rodeo accident and the h takes the kids while he is in the hospital…he stays with her at her small apartment overnight…they exchange looks and a kiss(hmm, where is the anger in that?) He leaves to go back to San Antonio. Meanwhile, Tom Walker comes to visit the office. Yep, I see where this is going…he is going to be a decoy om and get the H all hot and bothered full of jealousy…
Ok I guess not…Oh look the H is relocating with his 3 children to Jacobsville. The h has been on his mind. He goes to the office and invites her to dinner. Uh oh, things at dinner get these 2 off track…finally…OOh he says a couple of things…it is time for a really good angst moment….
He takes the h to her door. She sees a man in pain. She invites him in for coffee. They talk. They make out…WTH this is where you two are supposed to give up on this relationship for a bit, not embrace it.
Now he is inviting her to the ranch. They are making googly eyes at each other. He wants her real bad. She is a virgin. He marries her, and there is no trauma with the wedding night. In fact she is the best he ever had, and he has never felt anything like the emotions he feels for the h. It is the first time and the last time he will ever be in love….
Ok here is some Q and A time
Q: Wasn’t the H married before, he has 3 kids? A: Yes, yes he was. Funny thing here…his dad was dead, his mom committed suicide and while he was at university he met Adele. Adele was kind. He was lonely. She liked sex. So he married her. Q: So Adele really loved him to marry him and have 3 kids huh? A: Well, no not really. You see Adele just couldn’t come up with a reason to say no when the H asked her to marry him(I guess telling him you don’t love him wasn’t a good enough reason) Plus, our H is pretty commanding, so she really couldn’t get out of the proposal. Q: So, how long has Adele been dead? A: What? She isn’t dead. Wow, I skipped a whole bunch here. You see Melody, the h, helped her brother Randy run off with Adele in the middle of the night. It seems Adele and Randy are each other’s lobsters. Anyhoo, that is why the H and his oldest son were so anti-Melody. Since she assisted the 2 lovers. Q: Hmm, so who gets the kids the most or is it shared custody? A: You must be joking. The H might not have loved his wife, but she definitely hurt his pride. When she up and left him to marry the h’s brother he told Adele she was not to have any contact with the children. So, for the last 2 years she has been in connubial bliss and the H takes on rodeo after rodeo so he doesn’t have to spend time with his kids…the kids that he wants but doesn’t want the ex to have. Q: Can you clarify all the relationships again? A: Of course…Adele the ex is married to Randy who is the brother of the h. This made the h the step-aunt to the H’s 3 children. However, she is now married to the H, which has elevated her status to step mom. I don’t think the h and the ex will be sharing any bedtime stories, nor will the brother in laws. Because that is just ew! Q: It sounds very amicable. Is the ex a little jealous that the h will be in her kids lives all the time? A: Nah, she is already knocked up by her new husband. In fact she is excited that the pressure has been taken off of her to be an involved mom…her 3 kids with the H are a handful, and lets face it they weren’t created from undying love but more out of the H’s want to have a family. Q: Did you find any humor in the book? A: Well, the h and H have loud sex, so one morning the kids commented on the loud country music that was being played at night to cover up sounds…especially the wailing. Q: Was there anything in this book that is reminiscent of other DP LTT books? A: Ok, so the H is hairy, it is in Jacobsville, the h is young and a virgin but surprisingly she is voluptuous, (no small breasts here!), she suffers from esteem issues. So, yes there are some familiar traits in the book. Q: Do you believe in the HEA? A: Yes, I do for a DP hero, Emmett was very in tune with his feelings for the H. If she dies first, he will die within a week of her. Q: Ok, so in your opinion what was the most ridiculous part of the book? A: This may surprise you, but the fact that the 8 year old kids were excited about Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street was pretty unbelievable. I mean this was written in the 1990’s. Heck, I was raised in the 70’s. We had 3 channels! I still preferred playing with toys over watching Sesame Street or Mr. Rogers. Q: Ok, last question…..What do you regret most about reading this story? A: Well, I regret not reading reviews ahead of time, because I really needed my DP fix and this did not satisfy. But I think I regret that DP did not include Alastair the cat in more situations. I think I would have really liked his adventures more so then the kids. Look, I get why the kids were messed up and hopefully the h will get them some counseling. The kids however, were not all that captivating. Then, not only is the 8 year old watching Mr. Rogers, but she must have figured out HBO late at night since at the breakfast table she boldly asked about the h and H having babies. She saw how it was done in a movie….
I think that is enough snark out of me….now I need to find a more traditional DP book or reread an old one.
Oh someone save me from this dumb mission I set myself.
This book is awful the H is awful and all the kids are awful the poor h stuck with this nightmare for the rest of her life plus he’s going to tie her down with another kid despite not being able to look after the ones he’s got.
H’s ex wife ran off with the h’s brother leaving her kids behind and it’s 2 year later and he is still angry at h for enabling them. (H never loved ex wife he just wanted her and a family so he basically bulldozed her into marriage and 3 kids in quick succession and she then falls in love with h brother and she’s off for a new life)
This book is already awful for that alone but the H just swans around rodeo’s and let’s the kids do whatever the hell they want with no boundaries and despite not being able to lol after them himself allows them no contact with their mother out of nothing but spite. Why she didn’t get a lawyer is anyones guess.
The h is always awful to h when the see each other and the kids take their Q From him but despite this the younger 2 like her anyway.
When the H gets concussion he Shanghai’s the h into looking after them and the older boy is so bad he deliberately lets her cat escape our of pure malice. She’s devastated and knows what he’s done but doesn’t call him out.
H decides after this he quite fancies the h he needs money so he leaves his ranch to work on a future H’s ranch in Jacobsville and the kids can cause chaos somewhere else. He’s also realised parenting is hard and he can’t really be bothered so as 2 out of 3 of his kids like her so he will marry the h because she makes him aroused and he will just ship the other kid off to military school if he doesn’t toe the line.
As you can imagine this doesn’t go down well so when the cat goes missing again and he gets blamed he phones his mum and asks if he can come and live with her. She’s like nah I’ve got a new kid on the way maybe later so he runs away.
There’s a big reunion when they track him down and h used her karate skills on an assailant and calls him her son. All of a sudden she cool and all is forgiven including the ex and her husband for HEA.
The eldest kid Guy is a prime candidate to meet Maggie from Maggies Dad for their own HEA in the next generation of thr LTT series they will have some amazing notes to compare on fathers of the year!

A little bit confusing at first. Mostly because Emmett hated Melody all of a sudden and that hate turns into love and I think it's kind of funny. But I liked the element of children in this story. So cute. Too bad the story went too soon so it's not really my favorite.
Great book by Diana Palmer Emmett tough as nails can't resist the pull that Melody Cartman has on him. He tries to resist her because he was scorn from a woman but once she opens his eyes that it wasn't her fault what happened to him he started seeing her in a different light. The kid's loved her the two younger ones at least no the older one until he finds himself in trouble these two where made for each other
Her books have been around forever! This romance was first published back in the 90s. Hero even drives a bronco lol. There’s plenty of plot holes and insta love between these two but I think what I like so much is how funny the dialogue is. The kids and heroine Melody were quite funny. There seem to be tension with hero and ex wife but it probably would have made sense to read these in order. I would definitely read more by this author, even ranch/country isn’t my favorite setting. This book is unapologetically a Texas book, like cattle ranch and all.

This is a cute story about letting go of the past, forgiveness, and love. It's one of the few romance books I've read where children don't magically disappear because the adults want intimacy, which really makes it believable. The hero and heroine both make mistakes, but have the best of intentions and work to overcome their issues. The very end made me laugh too.
I felt like this was a slightly more modern DP. H wasnt quite an arse and he only occasionally smoked ;) There was a large age diff - h was 20 and H was in his 30s - seemed like late 30s. And boy did we get hit over the head about her being young. Calling her 'little one' constantly, plenty of emphasis on her virginity and his protectiveness. I liked that she wasn't a doormat; in fact, she seemed much more mature than he gave her credit for.
I'm happy that Emmet did get his own story. Cause he and his children were funny as heck in Case of the Missing Secretary. Also by the magnificent Diana Palmer.
Not for me. I don't really like stories with hero being a single father. This one turned out to not be so bad, the ending was sweet with how devoted the hero was to heroine, I just didn't like all the other stuff.
The family tree with hero, his ex-wife, her new husband (heroine's brother) and the heroine is complicated. How babies of each couple will be related to everyone is just ALOT to take in and fathom the years to come.
Heroine is the stepmom to heroes kids but also their aunt because her brother is married to the kids mom. She'll be aunt to her brothers kids but then that's the kids half sibling also their cousin. Plus once she has kids her husband's ex-wife will be her children's aunt. Then even weirder will be hero being uncle to his ex-wifes new children. Such a weird dynamic.
Hero wasn't such a great guy before heroine came into his life though. He was always working rodeos and didn't really know his kids, and after the divorce constantly introducing woman to his children by bringing them there to sleep with for a night. He kept their mother away from them, refused to let her see them or even talk to them, so they thought she didn't love them anymore. Maybe she didn't if it took her 2 months to finally go see them after she was finally allowed to. Np.

I can understand those who had problems with this book...anyone who has been through family problems, either as a child or as a parent, might identify too much with the characters to be comfortable with the story. I enjoyed the story even though I had a difficult time comprehending how Emmett jumped from jerk to Mr. Wonderful in the story. Guess a knock on the head can work wonders. There is also a spot where a cat is turned loose by a vengeful child...spoiler alert - it is returned. This publisher is notorious for renaming and republishing every so many years. Knowing I his I am cautious and read the samples...if it sounds familiar, I pass. The other downside to the author is by dragging up early works - a reader gets a poor opinion of the writer’s skill...the sample at the end of this work is a key example of this. After reading it, there is no way I would pick up that novel or others - if I were not a fan of Diana’s current novels. I think I have read high school stories with better skills than the sample exhibited. Diana should really object to it being attached to this story. In closing, I would recommend this book, but not if you have past family issues - it might hit too close to home.
Melody & Emmett were introduced in a previous book. He hates her because she helped her brother run off with Emmett's wife. She's terrified of him because he's big, gruff and hates her.
He's got three terrors of children. Somehow he got custody. Seems his ex didn't exactly fight for them. The kids are hellions and split their time between wreaking havoc and watching tv. Sometimes they stop to eat. For some reason the two youngest take to Melody - mostly because she feeds them and lets them watch an "educational television station".
Emmett hits his head which seems to knock some sense into him.
There's some lusting. Some "don't be afraid, your breasts are awesome and they're supposed to do that" - it is DP Virginville, after all.
The reader also gets, in no particular order: a wedding, a runaway cat, a runaway boy, a pregnant ex, and a kick in the balls.
The reader also gets a brief discussion about birth control. Emmett wants to use condoms. Melody prefers the pill. This is a rare Jacobsville book that doesn't end in the heroine pregnant.
Long, Tall Texans : Donavon and Emmett is by Diana Palmer. This is a two book set in one book. Diana Palmer uses her adjectives to a good use in writing these books. She makes you feel like you are right there with them on the ranch. In Donovan, Donovan knows Fay York was going to be trouble as soon as she walked into the bar. She was completely out of her comfort zone. However, he couldn’t let her get into trouble, he escorted her out of the bar and drove her around. Eventually, he brought her back to her car and made sure she drove home. Her uncle is handling her trust so until she is twenty-one, she must now live on her own. She gets a job at the feedlot where she sees a lot of Donovan. Then it seems her inheritance was lost by her own father, although her uncle tries to keep what he could of it for her. Now, she is indeed destitute. Can Donovan help her or will she not let him?
In Emmett, Emmett is a single father of three who still rides the rodeo circuit to be able to keep his ranch. He knows they need a stricter hand; but he can’t seem to do it. He finds himself attracted to his ex -wife’s sister, Melody. Can anything good come from that?
This is really a sequel to The Case of the Missing Secretary. Emmett and his kids are introduced there and are much more interesting than the leads, and much, much funnier. They aren't nearly as funny here, since this is about healing the family after Emmett's divorce, particularly the oldest child, Guy, who believes all the post-divorce cliches and leads his siblings in creative forms of acting out. Unfortunately for him, his siblings love the new woman in his father's life, the tall, curvaceous sister of their stepfather he used to blame for his wife's leaving him. The romance is fast and strange, to put it mildly. Palmer has a tendency to match young virgins with men ten to fifteen years older. Does she know this is a cornerstone of abuse cases? It just seems creepy. Granted, Melody is more mature than Emmett, but she becomes the stepmother to three school-age children (we're never told anything specific about them, which is also strange) at the age of twenty.
I did enjoy this book but I think overall I wanted more. Emmett and Melody are not friends because Melody’s brother ran off with Emmett’s wife and Melody either knew about it happening or helped them get run away together. That specific part wasn’t really expanded on. I would have liked to know to what extent Melody was involved.
Over time though Melody helps Emmett see that his wife wouldn’t have left him if she really loved him and he realised he never really loved her. He wanted her but didn’t love her. He slowly starts to form a connection with Melody and they get married.
There is also the subplot of the kids that Emmett has, they are unruly and 2 of them loved Melody while the eldest, Guy hates her. He does something really cruel and I don’t know…I didn’t feel like it was really resolved all the way. I just felt like we needed more. I can’t really explain it.
All that being said, it was still a great read.

Emmett Deverell can't imagine remarrying after his previous wife left him for who he thought was a friend. But then he meets the sister of the man who stole his wife and he's beginning to rethink his plan to remain an embittered ex-husband. He actually needs Melody to help with his three kids, who have become ruffians when he's ignored them. How else to get his attention than being bad? Which has only worked part of the time.
Melody is a lot more innocent than Emmett re: things romantic, but she loves his kids (two of them, anyway) and that helps to bring her along. But will the tenuous relationship they've developed survive the news that Emmett's ex-wife is now pregnant with yet another child? And how can he tell his kids about that?
Urgh... kids! This book is full of awful, awful kids. Two of them are the 'wacky highjinx' variety who get into all kinds of 'comedy' scrapes, and one of them is a complete and utter shit who tries to kill the cat and stamps about the place screaming 'I hate you!'
Does anybody like bratty, asshole, shitty kids in romance? The entire drama/conflict of the plot revolves around a horrible little boy, our H and H are just sort of window dressing who fall in love and get married without anything actually happening for them.
I honestly spent the whole book, right up until the last gasp, waiting for the trademark 'H misunderstands h and is mean to her' trope to happen, but nooope. This book is entirely devoted to snotty, gross, kids.
