Dear Mr. Lonely....Mandy Clayton never answered personal ads, but this was one she couldn't resist and now she was falling for a guy she'd never met.
Adam Gray was not interested in a mail-order romance, but he was willing to write some love letters for his friend. Then he had to go "check out" the bride to be. Off he went on an undercover job at Mandy's Bed and Breakfast in a small California beach town. Adam was a good guy who always played by the rules, but one look at Mandy and he couldn't help it - he wanted her for himself! He wasn't there to romance his best friend's fiancee. He knew that. It would be wrong... He knew that too.

Let's see. It had a predictable enough premise and I thought at the very beginning that I would be able to anticipate each move the author makes without much effort. Within the first three chapters the basic theme is set. A woman, Mandy, who runs a failing bed and breakfast answers an ad in Yokun Man at the prodding of her sister and begins a regular correspondence with a man called Jake, who claims to be a millionaire in search of a wife. Some months later, another man, an Adam Gray, arrives at her doorstep and charms his way into her life. He helps her with an unexpected surge in guests, cooks dinner, take her to a picnic in a vineyard and kisses and teases her till her head buzzes and her skin tingles at the sight of him. We are told just after he arrives at her B&B that Adam is a friend of Jake's and he was there to see whether Mandy lived up to the promise of her letters. She does. But the problem is that most of the letters Mandy exchanged with Jake were written by Adam, and now that he has finally met the girl he's been writing to for months, he realizes that he cannot let Jake have her- she's Adams. Now here another problem comes up. Adam can't commit to Mandy. He's going back to Yokun, to an oil rig, which has been his dream for many years. It's there he thinks he can find what his heart wants. When he finally gets it though, he realizes all that he lost when he let Mandy go.
So. I like this book a lot. 4 out of 5 stars is probably a bit much, but it's not so much the romance in the book that made me give the book 4 stars, but the way the author kept every chapter fresh. I couldn't predict every move she made. And I was happy to be wrong.
A quick simple read that I rather enjoyed. I didn't expect much from this story since it was a freebie on Amazon but it was featured and sounded interesting so I gave it a shot, especially with pretty good reviews from most readers.
I was pleasantly surprised. Had a good story that kept you interested about a woman running her own Bed & Breakfast and answering an advertisement based on a dare from her sister. Eventually it would change her life from having no prospects of men to two men interested in her. Obviously Adam was not meant to fall for her but it happened. I just loved how the author wrote out certain scenes in detail such as how a kiss just wasn't just a kiss or simple touch/nudge sent electricity flying. The tension between the two characters were felt off the page (technically from the screen since I read it from the kindle app lol) so it was enchanting and believable.
Found a couple of typos and errors which was disappointing and distracting. And it all just felt very long. The novel could have easily been wrapped up in less chapters and less pages than what was given. So it definitely felt dragged which made me take off a star. But it was still an enjoyable read about a light hearted romance. And even if it's classified as romance, don't expect a steamy scene. There was none. Just left to your imagination at the end. It mostly focused on the relationship between characters and the romance that they so desperately wanted but were to scared to indulge in.
The girl was DUMB...peeps keep reminding her about what's in her B&B brochure...you'd think SHE would remember putting in BABYSITTING...and have a Plan for that...
I have to say, I didn't even finish reading it...it was probably worth the $0 that I paid for it.
Both of the people just kept repeating things over and over...we got IT the first three times!!! He's doing it for his friend...and she has a broken heart...we GET it!!!
This was a quick read, only took a couple of hours. It's firmly in the romance genre and never goes beyond some really strong UST and a couple of kisses.
It's a cute premise but it's not a story that will change your life. And it doesn't need to be. This is the kind of book you read to escape. Curl up by the fire place and enjoy this tale of falling in love through letters, misunderstandings and lies, and a love too powerful to be denied.
This was an okay read. Below are some questions/comments I have about this story:
When Adam first arrives at the B & B and asks Mandy about the Yukon Magazine, why does she tell him that she doesn't read it? Seriously, it's like he knows she put an ad in it, so why would she not read it? Very stupid.
After Adam comes back from doing whatever at the beach, Mandy is in the bathroom still peeling the wallpaper off the walls. Why? She knows she has a guest. She knows said guest is in a room where this bathroom is the one he'll be using. Common sense would tell her that she should clean up her mess and make the bathroom presentable for when Adam returns.
Mandy going around in front of guests obviously not wearing a bra? When Adams helping her in the bathroom with the wallpaper and when she gets the guests with the baby. Just doesn't seem very professional to me.
Okay I know B & B's are the homier versions of motels, hence they have fewer rooms and whatnot. But Mandy's only has 2? How much money could you really be making? I mean there's only 2 rooms. And the times when she would say that she was full. IDK, but it just seemed funny to me.
I will only say this: 'A gallon jug of red wine.' ? Is it just me or does that sound like something a redneck would have?
When the married couple with Jeremy is visiting, the wife comments on how she hopes after her and her husband have been married for however long Mandy and Adam supposedly have, they'll still be having romantic dinners. Huh? So that makes it sound like you can only have a romantic dinner if you've been married for a while, right?
So after Mandy and Adam go to the pumpkin festival, they both get their faces painted. They end up kissing and no comment is made to the fact that they basically just got their faces done, but didn't smear or mess up either ones paint. But when Adam goes to 'brush a crumb' off the corner of Mandy's mouth, it 'send a cloud of glitter onto his hand.' ? How much glitter did the painter person use on her face?
AND AGAIN.... No too much later, they Mandy is rubbing her hands together and a 'shower of glitter ends up in her lap.' ? With that much glitter falling everywhere I would just imagine Mandy's face completely covered, and the same to Adam's face too.
Okay so Mandy is supposedly in love with Jack after all their writing back and forth to each other. Question: she knows he's looking for a wife and I assume he's never mentioned that he would leave the Yukon and move to the states to accomplish this. Would Mandy actually move to the Yukon and marry a complete stranger? I think not. Not really sure why she makes a big deal at he end when she finds out Jack plans on marrying someone else. This just doesn't make sense because yes he might tell her stuff in his letters, but how does she know any of it's true?
Mandy and Adam end up going out to eat after she gets the couple who have no luggage. Really? You would leave complete stranger at your place of business/home a lone? Stupid and very naive.
Why does Adam think that Jack has more of a right to Mandy than he does? I don't get that? Adam was the one who was writing to Mandy, mainly talking about his life experiences and whatnot. Yes, Jack started the ad but still. If Jack really wanted to know about Mandy, he should have go to see her himself.
Mandy mentions how Jack's personality really stands out to her in his letters. Yet after meeting Adam, nothing clicks in her brain? I mean he was the one that wrote the letters, he's been really nice and helpful to her but nothing....
How does Adam manage to pick up 2 couples plus their luggage in his car? I can't imagine he rented some huge car when it was just him.
After they find out some of the members of the double couple are vegetarians, they decide to make salad and pasta for them. In the end, there's this huge mess in the kitchen with all the pots and pans having been used and both Mandy and Adam filthy. Are salad and pasta that hard to make?
Before the above couples eat dinner they decide to take a nap, an hour later they eat dinner then go back to bed. I can't imagine dinner took very long, but they were able to go back to sleep that quickly?
So Mandy ends up feeling bad when Adam gets stuck having to sleep on the couch. Question: Why didn't Mandy and Laurie share Mandy's room, so Adam could have Laurie's bed? Common sense there.
Why was Mandy surprised that Jack was writing to other ladies? Did she really assume that he'd place an ad for looking for a wife and only respond to one writer? Stupid.
How old are any of these people? We know that Laurie is 2 years younger than Mandy but that's it.
Why did she think that Jack was willing to sacrifice for marriage? Again had he ever talked to her about coming to the states to visit or anything?
Why does Mandy tell Adam that she's only using him as a rebound because of Jack? Very stupid again. I mean it's not like she wasn't feeling a connection to him prior to finding out Jack planned on marrying someone else.
Why was Mandy so excited that Jack came to visit? Hello! The last she heard he was going to marry someone else. I can't imagine she would suddenly change the way she felt towards him after that last letter. Although Mandy is very naive and stupid, so I guess you never know.
Lastly, after I've written a short story worth of questions/comments, I ask how Mandy was stupid enough to believe that Adam didn't care about her? I mean come on! Mandy deserved a good smack for that one.
In the end, there wasn't nothing special about this story. I didn't like Mandy at all! She just annoyed me too much. I think Adam deserved someone a lot better than her too.
Unfortunately, this one didn't do it for me really. It was a pretty average read overall. Don't get me wrong, it was not a bad story, it just seemed kind of 'blah'. With a lot of redundancy. If I were to describe Lonely Millionaire in one word, that word would be 'stagnant' except for at the end, which was rushed.
There were some good things in the book, such as Adam (hot, charming, charismatic). Even though I didn't like her, Mandy was an okay character. She could be a bit pathetic at times, but she didn't fall into the TSTL category for me at least. The side characters were done perfectly. They were there, and made cameo appearances, but there wasn't whole chunks of story devoted to them. That really worked for me.
The tension between Mandy and Adam is certainly steamy. It would have been nice if they had had a love scene… even if it was fade to black. Overall this was an okay read. It was written well enough for me to keep turning the page. The plot was interesting and believable. It had some cutesy/giggly, funny moments. I'm happy that I read it, because it was fresh and lighthearted. I'd recommend it to those looking for a light comfort read, that are willing to suspend their disbelief for a little bit.
Slow but sweet romance in the style of a 70's Harlequin Presents...nothing exciting but sweet.

My Thoughts:
I won't say too much about this book...to me it was meh nothing new, nothing special, I don't need sex in every book I read but heck...there could have been a bit of heat...this plot has been done before..better.
1.5 stars from me and would like to see more originality

okay, half wrong. no steamy scene but a bit too much description of desire for my taste. I would still say it is a romance novel but on the tame side as far as that goes.
I was wrong! - "I am fairly certain this one is going to be sexually graphic. I am hoping not but after only a few chapters there is an awful lot of sexual tension... with 250 pages to go, I can see it only ending up one way. Most likely this one will go in the "I am not finishing it and won't ever finish it" pile."
I read through some reviews just to make sure it was safe to pick back up and even though there is sexual tension the reviewers have said there are no steamy scenes. Thank goodness cause I was enjoying this light hearted romance that is already very predictable. It's nice to read something that allows me to drift into another place without having to get too deep. So, I'm off to continue reading...
Omg what a sweet funny romantic story. I loved it. Adam was such a heartthrob. Funny, gorgeous, drop dead sexy, just scrumptious. These are the kinds of stories I really like. It had a nice story. Loved Elvis the bird. Omg I was cracking up with his Elvis songs. Seems that a toucan named Elvis would be saying, well Elvis songs. I know Laurie wasn't a main character but I was hoping she and Jack would end up together. I wasn't sure what to think of him at the beginning. He ended up redeeming himself in my eyes. Mandy and Adam make such a nice couple. I thought it was funny that her guests assumed they were married, and he just happily played along. He was just so damn sweet. Jack was too, in his own way. I just thought poor Jack tried too hard. All in all it was a delightful story.
This wasn't brilliant, it was a very average read. From the synposis I guessed it was going to be a light hearted feel good romantic read and it started off that way but it soon went down-hill after that.
I don't think it was necessarily the story either...but the format, grammer and typing errors on this was really bad and it really put me off reading it.... for example : " But it wasn't love. It couldn't be love. It had to be hist. And she could get over lust. " Now if it wasnt for the end part I wouldnt have known what that word was meant to be. It also kept hyphenating all sorts of words...for example "re-vealing" and "propel-ling". It was just annoying.
I really just didnt enjoy her writing style or the story in the end.
This is a light easy read. That tells the story of Mandy Clayton answering a personals ad from Lonely Millionaire. This was something that Mandy would never do, but she couldn't resist a dare from her sister. Now she finds herself falling in love with a man she has never met. Acting the part of Lonely Millionaire Adam Gray was not interested in a mail order romance, but he was willing to write some love letters for his friend. Then he had to go check out the bride to be. So off he went to Mandy's Bed & Breakfast in a small California beach town. But one look at Mandy and he knew he wanted her for himself.
It is a mild contemporary romance with no surprises. It has, though, its humorous moments with the funny dialogues but the scenario is not appealing to me and the whole pen pal story fits to adolescent ages and not the mature characters of the book. The fact that the story starts based on the fact that the heroine is already in love with her imaginary friend (although she doesn’t realize) seems naive the way it is given. The outcome is that I didn’t actually sympathize with the heroine because I think the reader didn’t have the chance to get acquainted with the growing feelings from the writing history between Mandy and Adam the months that preceded the start of the story.
I always enjoy a little fun read after being immersed in a deeper story, this book was perfect for that. The premise of a bed and breakfast owner becoming a pen pal on a dare was fun. Who wouldn't want to meet a lonely millionaire? The characters were nicely set up, but I felt the plot in the middle was a little too repetitive.
Once we realize the hang up Mandy and Jack encounter, the tension while remaining intense, doesn't really go anywhere. I enjoyed the playful scenes of visiting the pumpkin fair and the winery, but felt the pace was a bit rushed with some of the scenes.
Overall, a fun book to cuddle up with for a few hours of escape and romance.
So my biggest problem with this book is girl thinks she is writing to Jack, she is really writing to Adam and falls in love with him thought his letters. Adams comes to visit to scope her out and they fall in love in person, but Adam is just like no! She loves Jack....cause she loves the person who wrote the letters which is...Adam. I don't know. It doesn't make sense. I mean if Jack had written the letters then okay, but if you and I both write to someone they will be completely different as we are different people. It just annoyed me and like the whole book was based on the fact that Adam thinks she should get with Jack because she likes the letters Adam wrote.
This was a lovely story! I loved the way it all just seemed to flow together. The only thing i can see is that maybe there should have been a few more rooms in the B&B. Just having 2 even as a startup just seems a bit too small to be able to run a successful business. However, that aside, the story was really good. Having a beach setting is always a plus for me and the fact that Mandy isnt afraid to tackle anything on her own is great! Throwing her sister into the mix makes it fun and interesting. This was an easy read and just one of the kind of stories i throughly enjoy! I really liked the way the book ended also- even with Adam going back and forth... it was really good!
I recently purchashed this book on my Kindle for $0.00 You have to love free books ;)
I am a romance junkie and could read them all back to back.
The reason why this book only received three stars was for all the miss spelled words. Even though I knew what the author meant to say, it was quite annoying.
The story was great and I truly enjoyed it. I would actually love to see this turned into a trilogy. To keep up with Jack and her sister with their love lives. I would absolutely read them for sure!
I really enjoyed the premise of this book, however, there were a lot of spelling, grammar, and format mistakes in my Kindle copy, and it did start to take me away from the story a bit.
As far as the story, it follows typical romance novel plot points, but I love the idea of the ad and her B&B- give me a romance novel featuring a B&B and I will go for it every time. I didn't fall in love with the characters at all. In fact, I still feel like I barely know them. But for a quick read it did the job.
The story started out strongly and could have been a 5 star story had there been a bit more romance with Mandy and Adam and not so much angst! Yes a certain amount makes for a compelling story but once Adam checked out of the Inn, it seems the distance between them became distracting.
Literally and figuratively there were a lot of unfinished projects (wallpaper & mussels at half a bucket as well as M & A's story) and the end seemed rushed and incomplete. I enjoyed the premise and want to see Laurie and Jack get their own story.
I got this because it was a free book, and was pleasantly surprised! It had a few errors in it, but I think I received my version after a lot of cleaning up was done. After reading the first few pages, I didn't think I would like it much, but I soon changed my mind. I enjoyed the characters and the story. My only complaint would be that, after a book FILLED with anticipation, there was no sex scene! I can honestly say I felt a bit cheated there. :( Other than that, it was a great book!
Tifferz Take- I got this book of amazon and thought it sounded cute. Well I really, really liked it. It was well written the character development was great and it was a fun, romantic story. It is clean no sex. I think my favorite part was the fruit cake. It just made me laugh. So, if you want a great read. Pick this one up. I read it in an afternoon. It is great for a nice escape. This was my first book from this author and will not my be last.
I really enjoyed the idea of this book. I loved the characters and who the story developed. This manuscript could have benefited from editing before publishing. Some errors are expected but there were some major errors that made reading a bit difficult at times. But, errors aside I loved the concept of this book and how the characters developed in the story. I fell in love with Adam almost instantly.
Why do I read Mills and Boon books??? This was a particularly nausiating example, from the 80s. The research into the "hero's" job was hopeless...there were so many factual errors. The main characters were so irritating that I just wanted to slap them. The best two characters were Jack (who didn't get a girl) and the toucan! I finished the book as it counts towards my WBTC Challenge, since I got this free eBook from Amazon.
Mandy, accepted a dare from her sister to answer a personal ad in a magazine called Yukon Man. Little did she realize how much she was going to enjoy exchanging letters with Jack. Enter Adam, Jack's Best Friend. He is sent to check Mandy out, to see if she is "the one". From the moment she opens the door of Miramar Inn, the bed and breakfast Mandy owns, Adam struggles to remember why he is there. This book was entertaining from the begining to the end.
Light, sweet romance is all what I liked about this book. It was so predictable and I didn't expect much of it, though it was a perfect getaway and something cheerful to sink in after a long day.
It's one of those books that could be easily turned to a movie without leaving many details out. But still movies will never be as good as books.
It was also a freebie so that's why I actually gave it a shot.
Sweet love story, two people try to fight their obvious chemistry. The added pressure of trying to do the right thing and also not put themselves out there to prevent them from getting hurt. Adam was stubborn and didn't want to admit that he could change what he wanted in his life. Mandy was afraid to give herself a chance a life. Adam ended up giving the most and changing everything to keep her. She really didn't do much to deserve him.
So Mandy writes to jack, but its actually Adam replying. Adam visits her pretending not to know jack but he's does....bla bla bla a teeny bit confusing to start off with once you get past all that its actually quite a good romantic read. No sexy stuff in it just kissing and petty but this kind of book doesn't need all that anyway. I will look at some of the other books that the author writes as this one had a good storyline.
2.5 stars, but I feel compelled to round down on this one. The story was pleasant, but it just reads like every other dimestore romance. There really wasn't anything that stood out in this book other than the poor grammar and spell check. We've all come across books that needed better editing, but this one might be the most annoying.
