This is a great informational book about volcanoes. This book contains new vocabulary words throughout it that allows the student to match the words to the definition. It also has a glossary in the back so the students can review the words they have read in the book.

Great introduction for kids to reading scientific information. There are lots of great teaching tools, such as vocabulary words and stories and pictures of real volcanoes. The presentation and writing style are engaging for children, making the information both fascinating and easy to understand.

I thought this was great. It gave the reader a lot of basic information about volcanoes and would appeal to children when they are learning about natural disasters. I know that I would have liked this as a kid and think that you could link this book to a lot of fun science projects.

I loved how simply everything was explained. It is perfect for children to understand and learn the basics about volcanoes. The pictures were perfect as well and illustrated the different types of volcanoes perfectly.

I would use this book as a mentor text to teach the writing trait of ideas because this text is very detailed and full of rich ideas about the ingredients, formation, and environmental consequences of volcanoes. This book provides concrete examples of how an informational text can explain ideas about a subject. The pictures of real volcanoes in this book can also teach students about the writing trait of presentation and how to use pictures as visual aids ot explain a subject.

Classroom Integration:
This book could be used in a language arts lesson that integrates science. Have students create their own informational texts, using this book as a guide.
