I really enjoyed this book. It had several interesting twists with medieval knights, ghosts and reincarnation. The only thing that kept me from giving this five stars was the all too quick end. I really hate it when you have invested your time reading all the ups and downs of the story only to have it, literally, wrap up in one sentence. However, the characters were very likeable, the storyline was intriguing and thoughtful, it was jammed packed with emotion, nice sizzle and a great lead up to the second book.

This is my first book by this author and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one. But, first, I have to read the second book in this little series. I'm starting it now with great anticipation!

What an I say about this book, lovedit! Love that transcend time, Basil and Guy are ghosts who reside at Badger Manor not far from the ruins of Ashenwyck castle, Basil's home in life. Basil and Guy decide to introduce themselves to Elinor the new owner , the manor being inherited by her from her Grandmother.
Elinor and basil develop a love that transcends time and reincarnation , I do not want to give more details for fear it would allow me to spill to many spoilers . I found this story both heartwarming and wrenching at times but could not put it down.

The story opens with a battlefield scene... Many knights lose their lives fighting for England and the Black Prince, against an overwhelming French force.

Speed ahead in time: In the past, Elinor Hawthorne had sought to have ghostly experiences by visiting numerous "haunted" places to no avail. So... it was quite a shock for Elinor to encounter two ghosts, Basil Manneville and Guy Guiscard, both medieval knights, in the home that she has just inherited from her grandmother. Her grandmother had never shared with Elinor that her home was haunted! Her new home adjoins the grounds of Ashenwyck's ruins, Basil's heritage, and the two knights have grown accustomed to haunting the surrounding historical area. Elinor and Basil fall in love but Basil comes to realize that Elinor needs a normal life with a mortal man... He leaves... then Fate intervenes...

The story picks back up years later when they are both given another chance at love.

This was a beautiful tale of a love that transcends time and death. Ghost stories have always fascinated me and this one adds romance... WooHoo!

Bottomline: Highly recommended to anyone that loves a good historical romance, not-scary ghost stories, or time-traveling romances. I'm looking forward to reading Journey in Time, the 2nd book in this series!

Review by Bri: I’m all for paranormal novels. As an author of paranormal romance, reviewer, and all around lifetime reader, I love the genre as a whole. My usual reads are vampires, werewolves, witches, and fey. Mostly other worlds and the occasional set in modern times but with a whole other hierarchy in conjunction with present day.

Aside from paranormal I’m a big historical romance reader, Highlander, knights, the Regency period are some of my favorites. Never that I can remember have I read a novel that took ghosts, reincarnation, history, present day and romance and blended it into a novel of such quality.

I found myself pissed by the middle of the book because I did not want it to go that way. I was unsure of exactly how it should go, but I did not like what was happening. That’s fabulous thing though. Often times I can discover a plot way before the end. Additionally I was invested and still am in Elinor and Basil. Their love is something to revel in.

However, my truly favorite character of Guy. He’s a regular rake knight in shining armor. Lucky for me he gets his own book this month. Moreover, I’m hoping that I’ll get my hands on it soon.

A true must read.

School teacher Elinor Hawthorne inherits from her grandmother a house in Scotland. Soon enough, she begins to suspect something strange is going on in the house. Naturally, Elinor has common sense and doesn’t believe in ghosts — that is, until she sees them.

That’s right, not one but two: Basil Manneville and Guy Guiscard, medieval knights killed in battle against the French back in the 1300s.

Though both become her confidants, she begins to fall in love with Basil. Their love, however, becomes impossible, for how can a woman have a relationship with a man in spirit form? Thus, Basil leaves her.

However, in a turn of fate and one lifetime later, Basil is given a second chance to be with her. Will their love transcend time and will they finally be together?

I throughly enjoyed reading Heroes Live Forever. It is a compelling, well-written story that combines sweet romance, fantasy and time travel. A strong-headed, feisty heroine, knights in shining armor, humor, thrilling love scenes and a magnificent setting add the perfect sprinkle of spice to the recipe. This is a romantic tale that will delight fans of the genre. Recommended!

Heroes Live Forever (Heroes in Time) by Chris Karlsen is an excellent paranormal romance. A ghost story with a twist.

Elinor Hawthorne inherits a house the ghosts of two medieval knights haunt, Basil Manneville and Guy Guiscard. Basil is the man of her dreams, her knight in shining armor. She falls in love with him, and he with her, but what future can a human and a ghost share? Fast forward a lifetime and fate intervenes. Basil still in love with Elinor is told her spirit has returned to earth, and he is given another chance at life to find her.

From the first page to the last, this book captivated me. It had just enough surprising plot twists to keep me guessing. Most of the time, I can predict a novel’s plot twists, but not this time. Several surprising twists kept me up far too late at night more than once.

This story flows smoothly and is a fast read. The characters are interesting and at times funny. I especially liked Miranda and Guy. The story did have a bit more telling than I prefer; nevertheless, I highly recommend this book.

What a wonderful book. I found myself completely and utterly immersed in the world created by Chris Karlsen. I had my emotions tried again and again, feeling elated at times, broken at others, then complete by the end.

The characters were well developed. So much so, that I could hear their voices so clearly in my mind that I could have sworn Basil or Guy were in the same room with me. I fell in love with these characters. I bleed right along with them, felt their pain and sorrow, and finally their victory.

The setting was magnificent, and I will never again read a story about a knight in shining armor, but what I will think back on this story, because Heroes Live Forever.

And lastly, the weaving of such an intricate tale of passion, denial, love, betrayal, and finally acceptance, was brilliant, and I loved the way Chris Karlsen pulled it off.

Knights, reincarnation, sexy ghosts! My oh my! The story begins with two medieval knights who die in battle, their souls being unexceptionably intertwined. Skip to 1980. Elinor moves into her Grandmother house to find it occupied by the knight's ghosts. When a mortal falls in love with a ghost, it can't be good. Chris Karlsen is a debut author with a great voice! Her attention to detail and character development makes you not want to put it down and read through to the end. I visited her website and saw that this is a series! Alex's book is next. Can't wait to read all of them from this series!

Ms. Karlsen has developed a novel so complex it satisfies readers in almost any genre.

When Elinor Hawthorne inherits a house in 1980’s England, she doesn’t expect to inherit the ghosts of two medieval knights as well. Basil and Guy are fiercely loyal to their country and every woman’s dream man.

Paranormal Romance At the 30% mark, I was not emotionally connected to any of the characters and felt no compulsion to continue.

Having both Basil and Guy hanging around was offputting to me. With two gorgeous hunks lying about, there is nothing definitive about Basil's character to show why Elinor would fall for him. I grew tired of the way Elinor placed Guy on a pedestal of chivalry. This is the man, er...ghost, who admits to tupping (his word, not mine) anything in a skirt whilst alive, and who spied on Elinor in the bathroom, ugh!

Another thing that bothered me was Elinor's willingness to go out on a second and third date with a guy who kissed like a wet fish...again, ugh...

Finally, and I realize this will sound terribly nitpicking, but the author committed a pet peeve of mine, writing about a subject she has no personal knowledge of, with no research invested. Any horse owner knows that a horse would never want to pasture by itself, horses are herd animals after all.

Received book in exchange for an honest review.. I believe this will be my last ARC. It is evident that I am harder to please than the typical ARC reviewer. I do feel bad for giving low starred reviews to new authors, but Goodreads is, at its heart, meant to enhance the reader's experience, not the author's.

Adult only, a few bad words here and there, no intimate scenes as yet at the point I stopped reading, but a few kisses, which brings up another pet peeve, who wants to kiss a man with cold lips?

Let me start by saying that I am a fan of Chris'. I fell in love with her works when I read Golden Chariot... maybe it was the subject or simply the way she handled her characters- whatever it was. I was sold, hook, line, and sinker.

This book is completely different from those books. But that isn't a bad thing- it just shows that she has a good grasp on different subgenres within the romance genre.

I am a huge paranormal fan, this book seems to mix a lot in a way that works. I must admit, I probably wouldn't have picked up the book from the cover... I avoid "romance" covers like the plague. I can't handle the bodice ripper covers and the Fabios either. LOL. But that's just me.

I love this story. Chris has done a great job at crafting her characters in a way that you care. You really want to see how the story plays out and to see if a happily ever after is in the works- not all books end that way, ya know? Elinor and Basil are great characters that you really connect with.

The setting is great too! I think Chris has done a great job with this book! I definitely recommend it! And her other books too!

I really enjoyed Heroes Live Forever by Chris Karlsen. It starts out as a ghost story involving two medieval knights (I love all things medieval, so...yeah) and teacher Elinor, who inherits her grandmother's house where the ghosts reside. The friendship between Elinor and Guy was fun, and the love between Elinor and Basil bittersweet. Loved all the references to the 70s, especially Guys' comment on the Bee Gees. I don't want to spoil anything for new readers, but I didn't expect the twist that took them into, er, greener pastures, so to say. A blend of star-crossed lovers, ghost stories, humor, time travel, and second chances, I'd recommend Heroes Live Forever to anyone, and I'm looking forward to reading Journey in Time.

This is one of those books that I ran across for .99 and thought...well...looks interesting, cheap enough, why not...and I have to admit I was surprised. In one way this is the normal time travel story and in several other ways it takes off into a different direction. I have to admit I was a little worried about half way through when it seemed all the characters were dying off...(No...not a spoiler...) I kept asking myself how this could possibly end well. I'm always the sucker for the happy ending.

I have to admit, I liked the characters...I liked the story, I'm glad I stumbled across this and will certainly check out the next in the series, Journey in Time.

Great story, a bit melancholy, fabulous characters and actually rather believable.

This is a new author for me to try and I'm thrilled to bits that I have. I was thoroughly engrossed in the story and keen to discover just how where the author was going.

Karlsen creates characters and stories I believe in and make me want to root for.

I enjoyed the melancholy notes, too.

Heroes Love For Ever is a very well written book, an exciting page turner. I will recommend this book to others and have also read and liked Journey into Time. I didn't want either to end I got caught up into the lives of the characters as I'm sure Chris did as she was writing the book.
Have also read and loved Silk and Snifter of Death, they are just as exciting and page turning. Didn't want them to end either. Chris' short story Moonlight Serenade is loosely based on her father's life in the military during the second world war. I cried when I finished it it was so good and emotional.

An unusual scenario for a romance, or at least, one in which I've yet to encounter in my reading adventures. I must admit that I do read a lot of historical fiction especially medieval and renaissance, so my experience may be limited. Those are my special passion, and this wonderful romance has just enough medieval tint to leave me happily swept away for the entirety. There is a very unique mishmash of romance genres in this romantic tale, from the contemporariness of its primary setting to its supernatural elements of ghosts, angels, and reincarnation. A really fabulously, emotionally involved story of love, honor, loss, and rebirth. You don't want to miss the spellbinding talent of Chris Karlsen, and grab a few tissues before you start as well! But don't worry because laughter soon helps to dry the tears as well.

Wonderfully written!
Heroes Live Forever was a nice change to all the contemporary romance novels I’ve been reading.

I love all romance but I was in need of a change… This was it!

Heroes Live Forever is about a woman who lives with two ghosts. These aren’t your normal ghosts but two medieval knights who died in battle. Their story is not like any other story I’ve read before. It’s fresh and interesting. Basil And Guy are two ghosts who can come haunt me anytime!

There personalities are opposite but there both very sexy!

This is the first book in the series, the second is, Journey In Time. I’ve just started it and already know it’s going to be as good as the first!

This is a great book to what looks to be an even greater series:)

I went into this one not expecting much, and got a lot more than what I bargained for. It was quite entertaining, I loved the concept. I loved that it was well written and that I expanded my English vocabulary while reading it, it's the first time in a while that I've come accross words that I've never heard or seen before and I don't know the meaning of. As for the characters, I loved both versions of Elinor and Basil was quite the interesting dude. However, I'm a little bit more in love with Guy and I'm very looking forward to his story.

This one is definitely not just a ghost story, it has a lot more and I totally recommend it to paranormal romances or just romance lovers!

This is Book One of a boxed set. I am not a big fan of reincarnation where the person does not remember her/his previous lives. Loved the first part of the books but the second was not what I expected. Elinor was all but lost in the second part and the new setting just added to the disconnect from the previous story.
