I love the background story! Hearing how Bethany got through this situation with God was inspirational! She was always confident in God’s plan for her, and never doubted that it would all work out in the end; she never lost her faith in Jesus! ❤️

I am currently reading the book Soul Surfer by: Bethany Hamilton. I think this book is a really inspiring story. I like how she goes into a lot of detail because its paints a picture in my head of what she is doing. This story is about a girl named Bethany and she is a pro surfer.

Splash! As she went in to the ocean, she swam out into the sea to catch a really big wave and when she looked in the water there was a shark swimming up… before you knew it Bethany’s arm was gone. The thing I like most about her is that she didn’t give up, she kept on trying even though it was very hard and she pushed through it. Now she encourages kids with a disabilities or those with amputations to follow their dreams and don’t give up.

I can relate to this book because one time I was being bullied by someone and I had to stand up for my self and push through even though it was hard

Bethany Hamilton thought everything was normal until her whole world was flipped upside down. Growing up in Hawaii there was no surprise to grow up in the water. Her whole family loved the ocean. She started surfing at a very young age and fell in love. She grew up with the same passion, she participated in races with the ruthless sport and won many of the times. One day, she skipped school went surfing to ride the huge waves with family friends and her best friend. She went out into the water with jewelry that attracted a huge shark. The shark came up out of the water and bit her arm clean off. She was screamed in shock and passed out from the pain. Alana her best friend notices and went to go help her. They were all in shock and paddled to a reef. Her friend swam to shore and broke into the car to call 911. At the time, Bethany’s father was about to get knee surgery when they had to cancel because they needed the room. This is when the dad found out about the accident. She was rushed to the hospital and barely made it. She kept passing out because of loss of blood. When she finally woke up she could still feel her arm even though it wasn’t there. When she went home the whole town was very supportive and everyone knew. She hated the paparazzi and all of the attention. She persevered and wanted to continue her passion so her father made her a custom surfboard. She ended up becoming a worldwide inspiration and a professional surfer.

I would recommend this book to someone who likes autobiographies and touching stories. I think this book is for anyone 3rd grade and up.

I would definitely give the book Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton, a 5/5 star rating. It is a great book about overcoming your challenges and being the best that you can be. It’s a book for young adults. The book is truly inspiring, it shows that working hard and reaching for your goals is how you get somewhere in life. Bethany’s strength and determination is very inspirational following her message: Adversity can be overcome with optimism, having faith will lead to success. This story tells of an intense shark attack that came out of nowhere. Bethany remembers seeing the grey figure moving towards her, witnessing a jerk at her arm, then watching the blue water around turn red with her blood. Bethany’s belief in the christan church comes up a lot, including quotes, and references to the bible. Bethany, only being 13 year old at the time, explains her story to people world wide. Then later on, signs to surf professionally, even with her disability. The I read included pictures of Bethany and her journey through this life changing challenge. I feel like after reading the book, you can find yourself grateful for what you have, and don’t take anything for granted, but also making you feel like you can push through your own challenges using faith and determination in yourself. Reading the book will definitely change your life forever. I 100% recommended reading for yourself, and your family.

In the book "Soul Surfer" by Bethany Hamilton it is a biography about her life surfing. Bethany was just surfing with her brothers and best friend when something terrible happens. Bethany was only 13 years old and was in a horrible shark attack. The shark had bit off her left arm. She says "it's funny-you would think having your arm bitten off would really hurt." She also handled the situation well Alana says. Alana was also with her when Bethany was attacked. Alana was Bethany's best friend. Alana said Bethnays reaction was saying "I just got attacked by a shark." When she got back to shore she was taken to the hospital. Bethanny lost about 35% of blood from her body. It takes 40% of blood lose for you to die. She was a miracle but would she be able to surf again. That's what went through her mind. After a couple of days later she went back home. About 2 weeks later she tried to surf again. She wasn't used to it and it was too hard for her, so her dad made her a board that would help her balance better because now she only had one arm. Her dad made surfboards before so that's why he knew how to make it. After she practiced over and over again she finally got back to her great ways of surfing. Now she does professional surfing. Bethany is a very strong woman for going back into the ocean after her horrible attack.

Soul Surfer by Outreach publishing is about a girl named Beathany Hamilton. She was surfing with her friends when she got bit by a shark, and her surf board had a giant bit in it. She was in the hospital for several weeks until she got a fake arm witch she thought would help her but she hated it and it kinda hurt her arm. She also couldn't surf with the fake arm either. Bethany loved to cook and make food for her family but ever since the incident she couldn't do much. Later that year she started surfing again! After that she started competing again. She kept falling and she finally won!

I loved this book because it had lots of action and exciting part. my favorite part in Soul Surfer was when she finally started surfing again witch made me really happy and excited because the doctors even told here parents she might die but now she is surfing again that blows my mind.

I recommend this book to all ages because its not every scary for the little ones but still has lots if action for adults and teens. Overall this book was amazing.

Bethany Hamilton is an inspiration to all. In the story Soul Surfer written by Bethany Hamilton, it is an inspiring true story about a girl named Bethany. Bethany gets into a shark attack when she was just a teen and and loses her arm. Now Bethany comes back to tell her horrific story of what happened and her battle to get back in the water. You hear this autobiography told from Bethany’s point of view. Bethany lives for surfing and not even the loss of her arm keeps her from returning to the sport she loves. Throughout this entire story, you learn about Bethany’s family, her strong faith, and her goal of getting back into the water as soon as possible. I would really recommend this book to readers who love true stories told from their point of view, following people's journey through difficult parts of their lives, and happy endings.
This story is told straight from Bethany’s perspective, which is what I love the most about this book. Because Bethany wrote this story, you hear all of her thoughts that she was thinking as everything went down on the beautiful Halloween morning in the water. She tells the story from the first time she learned to surf, to a few years after the accident and how she healed from the accident. In the beginning of the book, Bethany tells you exactly what she was thinking just as the shark dug its teeth into her arm. She says, “Please, God, help me. God, let me get to the beach” (Hamilton 73). From reading this story, I learned that Bethany was really into her faith. Even before the attack, she went to church every Sunday, and even attended youth group and went on mission trips to help others. By saying this one quote over and over again, Bethany really believes that his helped her stay alive. Bethany shares another thought that occurred after the attack. From the moment she left the hospital for the first time, to the entire time she was on bed rest in her home, Bethany constantly talked about the possibility of surfing again. Her parents and friends privately thought her surfing days were over but Bethany says, “Only my brother Timmy knew nothing could keep me out of the water” (176). She shares that nothing could stop her from doing the sport she loves. Once Bethany convinced her parents that she was going to surf again, her parents supported her the whole time.
Soul Surfer takes you through Bethany’s difficult journey of her life as she struggles to get back to how she was before the attack. In order to succeed, you normally fail multiple times. This is what Bethany learns as she started her life back up from the big attack. After Bethany lost her arm, she couldn’t do many things herself. From tying her hair back to cutting an apple, Bethany couldn’t do anything. The second Bethany found out that she was released from the hospital for the first time since the attack, all she wanted to do was go home. She said, “I felt like I was being sprung from jail! But then I was told that I could leave the hospital but I couldn’t go home” (112). There were dozens of reporters camped outside Bethany’s house just waiting to interview her the moment she returned home. Because Bethany couldn’t return home, she went to the the second place closest to home, her best friends house. Bethany struggled getting back into her old life, but once she did she got used to it.
My favorite part about reading this book was the ending. Although the professional surfer lost her arm, that was definitely not stopping her from surfing. Bethany goes back to talking about her faith with Jesus Christ and how she thinks he has a plan for everyone. Her plan was to have a very happy and meaningful life in spite of the shark biting her arm. One of the things Bethany says is, “My plans to be a professional surfer got hit pretty hard on that Halloween morning. It was my own personal tornado. […] I had a lot of cleaning up to do. Often, it was scary or trying. And I won’t lie to you: in some ways it still is” (206). Bethany ends this book on a very positive note that really stays with you for the rest of your life. She teaches you to never give up, no matter how many times you have to try. The last line in the book says, “I’m proud to be part of God’s plans, and I hope, in some small way, this surfer girl from Hawaii can make Him proud, too” (210). I think this is quote was a very powerful thing for Bethany to say, and it really shows you how strong her faith really is.
Although I would recommend this book to many people, this book is not for everyone. I started reading this book because I really wanted to hear about Bethany’s attack and her recovery story. Almost this entire book talks about those things, however, it does talk a lot about surfing. Bethany tells a lot of little surfing stories and uses surfing terms. This shouldn’t stop you from reading this book if you don’t mind learning a little about surfing.
As a conclusion, Soul Surfer is a very inspiring book where you learn a lot about Bethany’s life and her recovery from her big shark attack. This book makes you feel like you are on the journey with Bethany and her fight to the way she was. I love this book and would really recommend it to readers who love true stories told from their point of view, following people's journey through difficult parts of their lives, and happy endings. Soul Surfer is a true story of faith, family, and fighting to get back on the board.

The book soul surfers definitely has its ups and downs. I indeed enjoyed the plot and story, but I didn't like the word choice. The word choice was very kiddish, as the book seems like it was partially written by a 5th grader. I also think that there were a lot of non-important parts of the story. It took up a lot of the book and didn't end up making a difference to the story. Her personality was very clear. As she thought very highly of herself.

Soul Surfer is an novel about Bethany Hamilton. Bethany Hamilton is a professional surfer who survived a shark attack in 2003 in which her left arm was bitten off. This book really shows that no matter what Christ will always be with you. That Jesus always has a plan. I would recommend the book to anyone but especially to those who like inspirational stories.

This book was very interesting, because it was about a girl who loved surfing. She got her arm bitten off by a shark, but yet she still wants to go surf. She has one arm, and now has to find ways to only use one arm. She wants to surf again, but is she going to be able to with one arm?

I am currently reading Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton. The his book is about a girl Bethany who gets her arm bitten off by a shark. So far the book has been pretty good. It introduced most of the people involved and is telling a back story. It is taking a little longer than I thought to get interesting but it's getting there. They give you the story of her life before the attack and then I imagine they will tell you about her life after the attack which will be a lot different. You might be able to relate to this book if you had a life changing event happen. Like if you play a soccer and then have to get surgery on your leg that will definitely affect part of your life.

Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton is a Non- fiction book filled with faith and family. It definitely involves a great deal of confidence as well. It is also a very inspiring book. I have enjoyed reading this book because it was abased on a true story. It was based on a girl’s life and what happened to her and how her life changed after a shark bit her arm off. The author definitely added their prospective and definitely explained what was going on in her life with a great deal of details. Bethany added so many details that you can visualize every event that happened. I find this book very enjoyable to read because it has action, sadness and involves a great deal of faithfulness. The book will make you want to be there for Bethany in every single moment and defend her also help her out. I love this book even more because I admire Bethany because even though her arm was bitten off by a shark she still tries to do the same things she could have done when she had two arms. She wants to be treated as a normal girls and finds ways to do something she wants to do. I believe anyone from 11 and older can read this book. I would recommend this book to anyone from 11 and older that loves suspense to a book and loves when books have specific details.
Bethany Hamilton who loses her arm in a shark attack. She was one day surfing the sport that she loves the best and a shark bit her arm off while she was surfing. Bethany’s arm and was never seen again. She didn’t scream, she just lied there, in shock. After that, her life was changed forever. Bethany could not have done the things she could have done with two arms. Many people treated different just because she lost an arm. Bethany had a passionate about surfing and didn’t just want to let it go just like that. Bethany kept surfing and started to practice. She later on got better and better nothing stood in front of her trying to stop her. Imagine having something taken away from you and you have the power not to keep doing what you love the best, Bethany definitely had a harsh moment. Although it did change her life completely by having friends ignore her she stood strong and ignored them as well but that would never have stopped her from going towards her goal: pro surfer.

The book Soul Surfer is about Bethany Hamilton. Bethany lives in Hawaii with her wonderful family. One day when Bethany and her best friend Alana go surfing like they do everyday. Everything was normal until a huge shark comes along and bites off Bethany’s left arm. The rest of the book is about her family’s strong faith in God, and getting Bethany back on the waves. The main characters in the book are Bethany, her Family and Alana. Bethany was only 13 years old when the shark attack happened. Bethany is a very determined and hardworking for being so young. Bethany’s Family consist of her Mom, Dad, two older brothers and her dog. Alana is Bethany’s best friend, they have known each other since they can remember. They both are now professional surfers. The mood of the book is very inspiring, but the mood changed a lot, from depressing to inspirational.

Three things that I really liked about the book were, how I got to see the perspective of many different characters. Seeing the different perspectives was very interesting. I also liked the journal like entries. It split the book up differently than other books. Third, I liked how inspirational the book was it shows that strength in God is so important. One thing i did not like about the book was how it did not follow chronological order.

Anyone who loves inspirational , faithful and likes to hear a wonderful story, should love this book. If you like sci-fi, dark and scary books, this is definitely not the book for you. Overall I felt that this book kept a consistent uplifting feeling. I love this book and would read it over and over again. It was a great book and you should definitely read it.

This book is one of my all time favorites. It has a lot of great values. This book is about a 12 year old girl named Bethany Hamilton. She loves to surf, and were better place to live then on the coast of Kauai, Hawaii. She has 2 brothers and loves them to death. She has grown up surfing her whole life and doesn’t know what she would do without it. On one particular day though, she went surfing with her best friend Alana and her family. They were headed to a place on the North Shore called “Tunnels Beach.” They had only been surfing for about 30 minutes, when Bethany was attacked by a Tiger Shark.

I really enjoyed the movie but the book really got me hooked. The movie I think really did a great job and showing the expressions and feelings of the Hamilton family at the time of the attack. But they never really elaborated on the important details. When the attack happened there were actually many spectators along the beach. But in the movie it only talks about Alana and her family being there.

I definitely would recommend this book. I think it is very inspiring and quite touching as well. The characters are real life ever day people. They really did a good job at bring them alive in the book. I really enjoyed the words and quotes that the author involved in the book. I would recommend this to all ages. It is so good!

After reading the book soul surfer, it did not meet my expectation, but in a good way. I enjoyed the book, although it is much different to what I do usually read, I really did like it and felt good as I was reading it.
I didn’t expect the book to be as calm as it was; throughout the book it was very neutral, the whole way.

Because she has many events of surfing competition, there isn’t much thriller or excitement in the book, and if there was it wouldn’t have been obvious because the book always refers back to bit in her life. Although I did like seeing the photos because it reminded me I was reading an autobiography and even though it didn’t have many exciting moment it was easy to read and calming. I really did like the way she described the incident though I think the way she wrote the whole book gave me an insight on her personality which I really enjoyed.

Overall this book was new and I didn’t know what to expect, but after reading it I feel I will try similar books to this and see how I like them. Even though the book didn’t intrigue me whilst I was reading it gave me a nice feeling. I did like this book not in the way I thought I would but I did and I hope I will be reading more of these types of books.

This book takes place off the coast of either Hawaii or California. The main character is Bethany Hamilton, she is 16 years old and loves to surf. When she was surfing one time she got attacked by a shark and lost her arm. She made a pretty incredible recovery, read the book to find out what happens. The theme of this book is faith and to never give up. " I'm living proof there's no such thing as handicap- it's only in your head"(138). This quote shows how Bethany never gave up. Most people would ask "why me" but Bethany never asked that because she knew God saved her life for a reason and has something better in store for her. Instead of giving up she decided to come back stronger mentally and physically then before. This book reminded me of a professional NBA player named Derrick Rose because last season he tore is ACL. Instead of giving up basketball he put his injury behind him and took a season off to get stronger and better. He could have easily just gave up basketball that second but he wanted to be a role model to other and had a passion for basketball.

1. This Book was very fantastic, its had a great moral or teaching. This book was also very sad at some parts. You could possibly have many mixed emotions. It also a little confusing at times.
2. I can relate to this book because when she got her arm bit off by a shark it took awhile to get a little used to having 1 lim, "bethany" the girl felt as if she didnt fit in because of this, feeling unwanted and out of place.
3.I would recommend this book to many people,it has a great meaning, never a dull moment, always much suspense. And many people can relate to this. It teaches you to not worry what others think an be bold.
4.Conflict-the conflict is fighting for her life an also her surfing life, to ever be normal again.
Climax-the climax of the story is definetley when bethany gets stromg an well enough to surf again, an also gets to surf in reginals. Its so great to see someone come from so down low to fulfilling their dreams again.

I thought that this book is super inspirational. I feel that it shows how you should never give up. I can relate to this. Recently, we went on an ice skating trip and had a lot of fun. I was teaching people how to skate and was telling them to never give up because you will fall. The next time I went ice skating, I fell and hurt my thigh. I still ice skate and it shows that you should never give up no matter what happens. Betnhany's injury was way worse than mine, but she never quit, and neither did I. I love the way she shows how even though she was very afraid, she never stopped believing in herself and that she was going to be okay. Some people say that because of her hope, she made it through surgery alive, with very slim chances of living.I hope to one day be as much of an inspiration with my music as Bethany is.

1. I decided to read this book because, since i have watched the movie I decided to read the book, and i love it.
2. I love this book because through everything that happens to her she doesnt want to stop, and she chases after her dream and doesnt let anything stop her. Also because this is a true story and she has inspired so many people to never give up because you never know until you try.
3.Something i learnt from this book is that since i love to play sports, if anyone tells me i cant do something i will never give up trying and will chase after my dream until i reach my goal.
4. A character in this book is Bethany Hamilton she interested me because i love how she didnt let anything stop her and that this event actually happened and didnt let anything stop her . It is without a doubt that she has inspired so many people
