The Nasty Vamp

Rate this book
All I wanted was to be a normal, ordinary girl whose biggest worry was what to wear to her twenty-first birthday party. I needed for a few hours to forget about my mother’s murder and the monsters that inhabit the night. With all my heart I wished for a little romance, for a man who could make me forget the bloodshed and death. I longed for a prince charming who would sweep me off my feet and kiss me under the stars. Then fate kicked me in the teeth and granted my wish.

My perfect prince charming turned out to be a vampire.

I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for thirty-one years and to keep insanity at bay, I took up writing. Not to worry. The insanity isn’t catching – much. Other than the addiction to chocolate and the twitch in my left eye, I’m good. I just finished, Stilettoes and Gunpowder book #3 in the Gemma Stone series.

THIS Holy-Shizzles-Messed-Up-Crazy-Ass-Mother-Chuckling of a read had me on the floor with tears in my eyes, laughing my ass off!

It was so hectic and had your mind running around and around. For this novel... this chaos suited it well.
Bunny and Ian deserve the hell out of each other. A crazy romance between a crazy but hot ass couple!

My god, all the ramblings, actions and plain shit going on in this book would leave anyone hanging on for dear life. No one can ever get bored with a read like this! Yes at times it may be silly but you would have to continue just to see what other crazy shit happens!

People, I read this a LONG time ago (2011) and I am still chuckling over everything that happened in this novel. This is a nice care-free read that helps you relax after those hard, emotional and dark reads.

You are in for one wild ride. Seriously, get your goggles on because you're going on a rollercoaster!

An old guy in a white Toyota gaped at me, his car careened wildly across two lanes of traffic before slamming into a parked Mercedes. Smoke poured from the engine compartment.
What was wrong with these people? You’d think they’d never seen a naked lady on a motorcycle before.

I really enjoy Gail's books. This one is set in contemporary times with vamps & werewolves and lots of magic.

Our heroine, is one smart mouthed kick ass vamp slayer with an extremely dysfunctional family who are all in the business to one degree or another. Most of whom wouldn't mind if she died in the line of duty.

Ian McGregor, master vamp, steals Bunny's virginity on her 21st birthday and she retaliates by blowing up his cars for the next few years.

There is a prophecy about Bunny that everyone seems to know about but her and so numerous vamps are after her to steal her power. Ian most of all because he wants her for his own, as opposed to the others who just want her power before killing her.

Bunny has done the local pack a favour and been made one of them, and she has also done a favour for the local crime boss. So 2 more groups of people that end up chasing her around Las Vegas and variously kidnapping and assisting her to escape rogue vamps and handing her over to Ian, against her will.

Lots of energy and fast twists and turns before we get to the HEA. Just a couple of continuity probs stopped this from being a 5 star read for me.

Looking forward to Gail's next book.

Bunny was supposed to be a hunter but on her twenty-first birthday she gets drunk and gives her virginity and power to master vamp Ian McGregor, so she blows up his cars. She keeps blowing up his cars and he keeps hunting her. Bunny is part of a prophecy that she does not know about, but everyone else sure does. Now there are master vampires after her, zombie like creatures, a crime boss and her crazy dysfunctional family to deal with. Bunny was a kick ass heroine; she was sarcastic and always managed to get herself into trouble. Most of the time it’s her fault, but sometimes stuff just kinda happens to her. I loved this book, it was fast paced and it didn't slow down one bit. The writing was great; the scenes were descriptive, colorful and full of humor. Gotta love a scene with a drunken nun type vampire, a vampire hunter and a policeman apologizing to his superiors for throwing said vampire in a trash can, which he didn't really do, while the vampire has maggots in her hair. My only complaint is I really wanted the book to be longer, I really would have liked to see Bunny and her first interaction with Ian not just be told about it. Beyond that loved the book and recommend it to anybody looking for a fast paced humorous read.

From the moment I started this book I had the sensation of having awakened in a carnival fun house. No clue how I got there but I was having fun. It’s a rare treat to just have fun with a book without working too hard to understand what’s going on and what’s being withheld. Was Nasty Vamp perfect? No. But it was a blast. Ms. Koger had me laughing out loud and unable to put the Kindle down.

This is a tough one to describe. If you are a serious vamp aficionado you will be disappointed. This book makes mayhem of all paranormal Alpha males including werewolves, sorcerers, and dragons alongside the vamps. Ms. Kroger drops the reader into the middle of our heroine Bunny aka Ann’s life. Bunny narrates the story with whiplash sass and lightening speed. Ian, our hero, is an Master vampire with more powers than he has a right to. He is also a Highlander but no brogue. If he had one, I would be on my third re-read for certain. He does wear a kilt and has a very big sword…that’s all I’m saying. Bunny met Ian on her 21st birthday when she was drunk and feeling frisky. He bedded her and stole her slayer powers. She has been getting ongoing revenge on him by blowing up his priceless car collection. Without her slayer powers, she is trained to be an Alfred which is something like a second for a slayer. She is not happy at all with this turn of events. Ian is trying to capture Bunny and punish her for his cars and to make her his love slave. We meet Ian when Bunny walks into a trap at a night club. Ian’s sees through her disguise and makes a move she did not expect…

‘Crap. My disguise was a bust. I ducked into the crowd and flinched as a tremendous power flared to life. Ian’s commanding voice rocketed through my skull. “Sleep”.
To my stunned horror, everyone in the club collapsed. If I wasn’t immune to vampire mind control, my goose would definitely be cooked. I dropped to the floor and feigned unconsciousness.'

Suffice to say, Bunny never does what I expect. I loved that aspect of her character. Bunny’s cousin, Bambi was priceless. She is a vampire slayer that makes the chick from Clueless look like a Mensa candidate. Bunny introduces us to Bambi in an early scene…

‘My jaw dropped when I finally saw her. Unfreakin’ believable. Bambi, the wannabe fashion queen, strutted down the walkway in a skintight, black leather cat suit. The plunging neckline barely contained her girls. Did I mention that she wears a double D cup? Any sudden movement and those puppies were popping out. The vamps would probably enjoy the show right up to the point where they start gnawing on her neck.'

There is an endless list of characters but another honorable mention has to go to the werewolf pack leader – Ben St. Croix. Hot. Hot. Hot. The entire book takes place over a few days and Bunny is running from a multitude of villains thanks to a prophecy and a $5 million bounty Ian put on her head.

Here is the difficulty with this book. Ms. Koger provides very little context for more than half of the characters. Bunny just plows through the situations and skims over her relationships. It’s a novella but damn, it could have used a little more meat in this area. It is the first book so a character popping in and out with little context was frustrating. I’m not gonna lie about that. There were a few typos and grammatical errors as well. It’s erotica but not over the top – more shock value than hotness. With all this said, nothing became a deal breaker. I am giving this novella four stars just for the entertainment value alone. I recommend this book to anyone that loves a good laugh and can go with the flow even if it’s a little bumpy at times.

Have you ever been curious about a book that looked so tragically bad, you just had to read it?

Did you ever then discover it was so much worse than you’d originally thought that you start wishing you could go back and unmake time itself so that you would never have set eyes upon or heard of such a travesty?

This is one of those books.

Confession time.

Sometimes, seeing the terrible covers or book descriptions on KB’s Babbling About Books & More WTFery posts prompts me to investigate the WTFery for myself. I admit it, I am drawn to terrible books and movies. (Have you seen Thankskilling? A low-budget D-grade cinematic masterpiece, I tell you!) I’m also drawn to just about anything featuring vampires. So, with a title like THE NASTY VAMP, well… After spotting this on KB’s blog, I just had to check it out. Could it really be as bad as the title implied?

This thinly veiled Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanfic was chock full of spelling, grammar, and continuity errors, ridiculous situations (nekkid Mary Sue heroine riding a motorcycle down the Las Vegas strip? Wut.), and sometimes just plain gross stuff (drugged non-consensual sex in front of a room full of witnesses followed by almost-tentacle pr0n. Wut.). This was not cool. Not cool at all.

Okay here is a clue...I purchased the book yesterday evening and was done by 11:30pm!!!! This book was one of my favorites. It smacks of great characters that leave you laughing. The plot took a few turns I didn't anticipate, which I love that I can't say who has done what, early in the novel. I must say, I was surprised by the outcome of the "villain". Quirky but worked for the story! What made the best impression on me was how sexy the book was without the every other page being about wham bamm! The conversations between Bunny and Ian was smart, witty and sexy. Sometimes a little goes such a long way! I would love to read a story for Kane and Isobel.
Hooray for Gail Koger! Always puts out something more than worth my penny! Enjoyed every page turned!

I thought nothing could replace my favorite book "Just My Luck", but I do believe it has been bumped from the #1 spot by "The Nasty Vamp". Between the fast pace funny storyline to the entertaining and slightly insane characters it never got boring. So far I have read it three times and haven't tired of it yet. I would reccomend this book as well as "Just My Luck" and "The Warlords Comeuppance" by this author to anyone who is looking for a story that is sure to make you laugh. Believe me if you purchase this book you will not be disappointed :)

Loved this book. I read it over one night and I ended up having to cover my face with a pillow to smother my giggles. I was afraid I would wake someone up due to giggling so loudly. I have read all your books and I hope there are more to come. Love dominant men and snarky women.

“You belong to me. Never forget that.”

Well ?

It's another sexy-slayer-chick-meet-an-arrogance-hot-shmexy-alpha-master-vampire-complete-with-non-stop-actions-from-the-very-beginning-and-ended-with-bond-by-fate-together.

I must admit that its hard for me not to compare this story with the legendary hot-vampire-couple Cat and Bones from Night Hunters series.

I know its not fair but I can't avoid it while I read this story.
All the actions, the stubbornness, etc ~ reminds me of Cat and Bones.

But even it reminds me of that legendary couple, I do really enjoying reading this book.
I can't stop giggling with the dialogues banter between Ian and his trouble-maker-soon-to-be-mate, Ann.

Or with Ben the alpha wolf pack...
The peckers comparing...
lol...
I can't stop smiling while read it.

Overall, the story quite entertaining and short, but I must underline that I "hate" the heroine act at some part, its annoyed me enuf.
But seems its so typical for authors in this genre to make the heroine lil bit annoyed while they hero act like over-protective-alpha wannabes, right ?
It's always good formula to combine this stuff into story.

REVIEW:
The book was overall alright and I liked the characters. Lots of funny sayings in the book like: "colored me surprised" and "Ohmigod". There was romance but mostly action every time Bunny was kidnapped. Nice read.

Okay...I think I'm gonna throw up. You really think having your romantic interest force your heroine to be his mate is not only acceptable but sexy? Were you drunk when you wrote that? Because I don't think I've ever been this nauseated about a book before. Ah but then he drugs her and proceeds to have sex with her. Much better. Rape anyone? Oh but a very nasty vampire wanted her and it was done for her protection so I guess that makes it okay...and he calls her sweetling. All is forgiven then.
More action...That woman sure knows how to attract trouble! Crazy battles. The bad guys are defeated. She's suddenly in love with her mate and they live happily ever after. Awww. I am so not recommending this to anyone! The only reason this book even gets a two star rating is because the writing is awesome. Great visuals and great world building.

Reviewed for Confessions from Romaholics
After Ann Dragos aka Bunny loses her virginity to Ian McGregor, the man she thought her prince charming, she discovers that he is an eight-hundred year old master vampire with magical abilities who takes her slayer powers and almost takes her life too.

Later, when she blows up one of Ian’s garages full of expensive antique automobiles, her Uncle Fester takes her to a witch who puts on her the Amalfi Medallion to protect her from Ian. Her aunt sends her to the University of Alfred, where she will learn how to protect the vampire slayers.

Love this book. Bunny was a great character to read about. She was smart, witty, independant, a excellent fighter and she had a bit of a attitude. Put her with a nasty vamp who wants to control and posess her, a head werewolf who wants her to stay out of trouble, a dysfunctional family who's more likely going to get her killed than protect her and lets not forget the many master vamps and socerer's who want her dead. The only thing I was disappointed about was the fact that Gail kind of just gave a summary of how they all got to that point. It would have been alot better if she started the night night Bunny meet Ian and he took her powers instead of giving the basic's of what happened. But yall don't get me wrong, this story story is hilarious, witty and definetely a must read.

Every disastrous occurrence seems to start with the phrase "you fucking bitch!!!!!" and we are off a paranormal wild ride. I love sitcoms and this would make a very funny show. Lots of slapstick and a very entertaining storyline.

Bunny is wildcat with a great sense of humor. Bunny is also a loveable down to earth character. The supporting characters are.... well..... real characters just as spirited, vivacious and funny as bunny. The heat factor is so so but it is a book which does not take itself too seriously.

I found this to be a laugh a minute ridiculously delightful story. What a riot!!!!

The Nasty Vamp would have got 5 stars if it had not been so rushed! It's hilarious and had me giggling on almost every page. However, it's too short and has too much information crammed into it. Bunny is definitely my kind of kickass heroine, she's stubborn, brave and has no regard for authority! And Ian MacGregor is swoonworthy as a highland vamp! The Nasty Vamp is a 5 star novel squeezed into a 4 star novella, but highly recommended!

Really enjoyed this one. Sitting down to read a koger always has me laughing out loud and wondering what new mess the heroine will get into and the best part she usually gets herself out to with a little assistance she is very rarely "saved " by the alpha male. Ahh but what males they are!
