Even more than 30 years after his death, C.S. Lewis still remains widely read and extremely popular to both children and adults alike. His writings are imitated, quoted, studied, and revered. With a body of work spanning from science fiction to religious philosophy, he is considered by most scholars to be one of the greatest religious writers of the twentieth century and is often heralded as the "Theologian for Everyman," bringing struggles of faith and meaning to the forefront of American culture. But surprisingly, his life story has never been made into a documentary for American television. Now W Publishing Group is proud to introduce the biography of C.S. Lewis as the companion book to the first North American documentary ever produced on the life of C.S. Lewis.
This is a delightful coffee table book about the life and literary legacy of C S. Lewis. Reading it brought back rich memories of seeing places in England and Ireland associated with Lewis.
This book has been in our C.S. Lewis collection for years, and I've loved it just for the cover. This week, I finally read it - cover to cover- in one day. So interesting to hear from people who knew the creator of Narnia and so many other great works.
As a writer, I'm inspired - though I never hope to achieve anything so lofty. As a human being who is loved by God, I'm grateful for the life and example of a humble man.
C. S. Lewis wrote about magic, choice, and possibilities. Hope. In this book, we learn that a little girl who had evacuated to his home for safety when bombs were falling during WW II inspired him to write The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. She asked permission to climb inside a wardrobe, and, she asked if there was anything behind it. I am so grateful to that little girl for asking that question.
I’m just so intrigued by C. S. Lewis. He was an amazing writer, teacher and person. Very interesting read. Amazing to hear first-hand accounts from people who actually knew him, worked with him, loved and revered him.
A companion to a documentary, Duncan writes mostly about C.S. Lewis life, and a little about his literary legacy. A good introduction for those for whom Lewis is new.
This book intrigued me to read all of his books(I know that is a lot). C.S Lewis's life is fascinating, you feel so close to him by the end of the book. It was also cool to see how he meat his wife,it is really cool. The time it took him to write his books is amazing. He said in one of the parts, "Writing comes to just like thinking comes to me". I think that anyone who likes to read and has heard of C.S Lewis should read this book!
First of all, be advised, this book is basically a collection of remembrances by several people who knew C.S. Lewis, not a terribly in-depth biography. It was a pleasant read and there are nice photographs. I did not learn much here, but it was a good reminder that Lewis seemed like a decent guy in so many ways.
I so enjoyed learning more about C.S. Lewis and his life. This is a shorter biography than others published. Lewis had such a brilliant mind for his short lifespan - wish we could've indulged in more of his works. I am inspired to read more his works.
This was an excellent book that gave me the basic information on CS Lewis's life as I didn't know much about him. He was a complex and fascinating person who contributed a great deal the understanding of Christianity for many people.
Written like an oral history, the author strings together interviews of those who knew C.S. Lewis and C.S. Lewis scholars. This book will be appreciated by lovers of C.S. Lewis works.
