The notion of an indigenous African civilization that Iberian explorers wouldn't instantly torch with religious fervor is indeed lost on the popular mind, but the kingdoms of the western coasts as well as the transplanted pharaoic monuments of Nubia do merit discovery. Throw in a few archeologists' treks worthy of H. Rider Haggard.

Really enjoyed the section on Zimbabwe’s Great Enclosure! Will definitely be looking into that more.
