I like that authors and publishers are using the Kindle as a resource to collect shorter works by popular writers like James W. Hall, creator of the long running and well-crafted Thorn series. Each of the stories in this collection previously appeared in other crime collections, such as Miami Noir, Florida being Hall's usual setting. In this collection, only the last, the title story, falls short of the mark. The opener, The Crack, is a distrubing tale of voyeurism, and all that follow are equally dark, entertaining and twisty, as well as representative of Hall's style.

this one took my by surprise - i was absolutely blown away and finished this off in just one night. this collection of short stories, my first readings of james w. hall, will certainly not be my last. twisted, violent, vulgar and blackly ironic these disturbing stories of south florida are most certainly my cup of tea.

James W. Hall is not one of those writers that always produces good work. There was not an interesting story among the seven in this book.
