The author of COWBOY KID and the illustrator of OWL BABIES offer a gentle read-aloud about trying out one’s independence.
Squeak has a good idea—he’s going outside. But to be on the safe side, he’ll need just a few things—like mittens, a jacket, a scarf, a hat, a raincoat, warm pants, extra socks, and an umbrella. Will Squeak ever be ready to go out? This encouraging story about venturing out on one’s own is gently told by author Max Eilenberg, with delightful illustrations by Patrick Benson.
Cute, but for me it was not a must-read-to-the-kids story. I think a child would enjoy it on their own. I did like the pictures. And the whole build-up was good. I just thought the ending didn't flow, even if it was what I'd hoped would happen and wrapped everything up into cute. But it wasn't bad. I just don't know if I'd be able to pull it off in a storytime. But for a toddler storytime? No, I don't agree with that. The toddler might be able to sit for it when it's a lap-read. But I think this one is better for preschool.
Cute bedtime book from the Library. The kids liked the garden page & B said that’s a village I’d like to live in. The details of the illustrations are adorable, E really liked the art.
This is an entertaining story that celebrates preparation and imagination. Squeak wants to go on a journey and wants to have everything he'll need. The narrative is humorous and the colorful illustrations complement the story nicely.
I doubt our girls would enjoy this book - I think they'd consider it too babyish for them. But I liked it.
I love elephants and the illustrations of Squeak and his family are adorable. Squeak decides he wants to go outside by himself, but each time he gets to the door, he thinks of something he just might need and has to go back inside and get it.
