Losing My Virginity And Other Dumb Ideas

Rate this book
Kaveri, the protagonist of the novel, is a 29-year-old, who is soon turning 30. She is a single woman who is in search of her true love that has eluded her this far. She is an interpreter by profession and has mastered seven languages. She has read many books on men and how to land a date, yet she struggles to find a perfect partner. Her friend Aditi, who is quite experienced in terms of love and relationships, offers to help her by arranging dates for Kaveri. After a slew of unsuccessful dates, she does finally end up in a relationship, which is kind of ephemeral with the man, but true and eternal with her own self. The plot of the novel progressively moves from Kaveri being a lonely 30-year-old single woman, who is going through the roller coaster ride of a romantic relationship, to her discovering her own individuality.

Losing couple of hours of my life due to a dumb idea of reading this book...

Poor character development and boring story line nipped my interest of reading this in the bud. Still, it took an iron will to complete this awful book. It's never a good feeling to leave a book unfinished once I start it.

There is no actual substance in the book that makes you want keep reading it. Probably even the author was aware that there won't be any viva-voice or any other kind of publicity, hence the choice of the catchy title.

Now I know better to avoid her(Madhuri Banerjee) books altogether in the future...

The book knitted very closely in line with the story of any average middle class girl striving to become popular, do something extraordinary in life and above all a 30 yr old virgin who wants to get laid.

Not very extraordinary and a time pass read

The title itself is so catchy that anyone who has a glance of the book would be curious to read it. Just as I was. And I must say, the book had me glued to it right from the start. It's not as if it's a great piece of literature, neither is it in conventional terms a great intellectual pick. But this book would be relatable to so many 'virgin Indian women' in their late twenties or thirties, just like I am. Period. I liked this book because it felt like I was reading my own story. Something I'd do if i was 30, still unmarried and virgin and finding a lack of men who are intellectually stimulating.
Kaveri , the protagonist of this book, is probably like many other Indian women who are reaching 30, yet haven't 'done it' and feel like they're completely useless. And in the attempt to 'de-virginise' themselves (the word used by the author here), they end up dating men who have nothing in common with them. The book also states the fact that it's okay if our 'one great love' didn't really work out, because, hey, there will be many more you find to love and cherish.
Overall, a good read, especially amidst reading serious non-fiction, this book is like a splash of cool water on a dusty summer day. Thumbs up Madhuri Banerjee at your attempt in creating a desi 'Sex and the City'.

One of the worst book I ever read. The story is so cheap in content. The writer had just one line to say and for that she used 232 pages!!I don't know, how Penguine agrees to publish such book. I will not read Madhuri anymore.

I think it is high time "I wish I'd not read this" is added to the Bookshelves/Tag status.Seriously.
What a waste of time over someone's lack of ideas.

With a very conversational writing style, the book has a great beginning. The title is a catchy one and makes you pick up the book. Adventures of an Indian woman to lose her virginity... it was interesting.

I loved the first few pages. The way she describes about guys and how they didn't suit her taste was hilarious. Of course, a guy would hate that section but an independent woman who likes to have a standard when picking guys would love such a section.

The book went on a downhill then onwards. The whole thing with Arjun just seem very unreal and stupid. On one side, you're a very smart character and suddenly you become dumb? It happens in love but after a point it seems unreal. It just doesn't suit the character who I started following from the beginning of the book.

After the Arjun section, it was totally like WTF! What is happening in this book? What is she doing? You just wait for the book to get over then.

My 2 cents on Madhuri Banerjee’s book that’s in buzz

One of the afternoon, after heavy lunch, i was surfing the net for the Indian fiction. The first book, flipkart threw is this one. I googled about the author and found out that she’s a half bong like my twin daughters. Curious to know more about the work of a half bong, i decided to read it.

So I called up my librarian, librarywala.com to ask for the book. The lady picked up, I asked “ma’m can you check whether you have the book ‘Losing ….’” I couldn’t complete, I hung up. Instead I went to website and check, it wasn’t there.

I checked on amazon.com to read it on my Kindle

Actually I seldom write reviews for books, reason, I rarely read a book that is bad because I feels most of them are decent giving 3 stars at least, as I seriously consider the efforts of the writer. This book is one of the hundreds most worst boring books of all the time, not to mention may be on top of that list. I should have considered purchasing "Champak" from railway book store instead of this book (one of my dumb ideas). You will be entirely surprised to find the book completely deprived of a story with vague and under developed characters.

It is a book which we can read in our leisure time. Lots of fun, romance, breakups; everything described from Kaveri's perspective. Overall a very nice novel with very good narration.

Actual rating: 2.5 stars

This book does deserve 3 stars but the reason I am not giving it the same is because the book does not give you closure. It has an abrupt end (only if Madhuri could add one damn chapter at the end!!!).

A lot of people have given this book very poor ratings and I honestly believe that this isn't a bad book at all- it is all about your point of view when it comes to single women living in the big city.

So meet Kaveri, a single attractive woman who is now reaching her thirties.

Lisa Haydon has the closest features to Kaveri (including the long legs).
description

She is still a virgin and wants to have sex owing to the fact that she is going to turn thirty soon.

So when like most Indian women, who prefer having sex with their Great Love, our protagonist is now on the lookout for that one man who will have her heart.
But as fate has it, she kisses a lot of frogs till she gets her prince.

This story is a roller coaster ride with annotations and notes for women in search of love. It is a very light read, very much enjoyable and more like a Bollywood movie for the new-age.

I do not support people trashing the book here, because honestly, the plot and the idea behind the book is very much for the modern independent woman who is not tied down by societal rules.

When reading this book please give your traditional view points a back-seat and look at the world through Kaveri's eyes.

Conclusion:

This is a very light read and please do not take the book seriously. You will enjoy it with right POV!

Tip - Take this book up after reading a dark gruesome book (like The Butterfly Garden)

This book is a story of Kaveri who hit her 30s and still doesn't have a man in her life ,she is running behind her career first and prioritised that and she was person who believes in finish work before deadlines but now she is having a mid life crisis and ask her friend for suggestions to be in a relationship.

She met some guys through relatives suggestion and refused them because some were distant cousins and some were boring and ugly. Then she Arjun , from start things were good but soon revelation came that he is married and his marriage is in phase to broken soon but Aditi suggested not be in relationship with him , even if she want that life then it should be on her terms not his . Soon things show up and she breakaway from it. The she met Aaron, but soon he went away as things were professional and then she met a guy for reality show things were great but not her types plus she got the money. Then Arjun tries to comeback she refused because she doesn't want to complicate things for herself and finally her dream career is waiting for her in United States and she go for that and believe that destiny will get her a guy but till then enjoy.

Losing My Virginity and other Dumb Ideas explores the journey of a woman who meets some romantic inclated relationship after a long wait, only to get all her notions shattered and discover a 'new' her without the pressure of society standards

This is one of the books I was forced to read due to lack of any other option in a friend's home. Now, usually I cannot stand reading about other peoples lives, especially love stories as they have the same pattern. My reviews and ratings of the few that I have posted here will clearly show that.

This book was a refreshingly different perspective. One can resonate with the 'true love' the author ends up finding. It's mature, and makes me thing that all beautiful women may not have cotton candy for brains and all men... oh well... nothing changes there.

Absolutely crappy. I didn't have too many expectations when I picked up the book but it disappointed me in more ways than that. The writing is quite childish. The love scenes are written like how a 14 or 15 year old will talk about their love stories. There is no character development, in fact, the character gets worse. You start losing interest in the book right away since there's no plot to hold you.

The idea of a strong independent woman is great but this is absolutely not the way to write it.

Not recommended to anyone.

I was tortured and punished.

Anyways it was not the Author's fault. She made it clear in the first 10 pages how this book is going to be: A Soul-Sucking experience. I had this bad habit of completing the book I start.

The worst character development, the protagonist seems to be dumb and expected audience to be dumb too.

Oh God, I am not going to write reviews too.

Only a caution! Avoid this Author forever.

Losing My Virginity and Other Dumb Ideas..

Great expectation dashed down. It was boring affair.. it could have been better...

When we read one fiction we asume that their is going to be a story where we can get into , and feel the events and flow..
Here i not able to figure out what i am reading....

Worst Reading Experience..

More or so I suffered because I have a habit to finish a book.. Tossed directly to the 'pasti'.... very immature writing, grammatical errors, typos, no characters, no proper story, just proper sex scenes.. and aah even on that bar.. FAILS... Chetan Bhagat or Ravinder singh aces it.

This book is one of the Dumbest Mistake I made

I have read this book and I must say that this book was written and published before it's time. Even though I could relate to myself at many points. And it's nice how the writer has shaped the character. And I really like the climax and I felt connected through out

Day by day I am becoming fan of Madhuri Bannerjee, she explains general peoples feelings, emotions in a simple way, from a realistic viewpoint, down to earth and genuine... facts described in fiction as it is like an authentic description...

As title suggest it was a dumb idea to read this book. It is a total sex oriented book. Protagonist is not able to find true love untill her 30th birthday and it seems she is kind of desperate.
