The Alliance of Worlds has decided that humans are to be annihilated as an example to anyone that discovers ancient alien technology, even though there is no proof against them. They think fifty thousand warships can do the job. Unfortunately, the humans are not cooperating with their plan, and one young human who has fallen in love will change everything.
A young boy born with unique psychic abilities.
An ancient alien artifact he accidentally discovers.
Now Earth is targeted for total annihilation by 50,000 warships.
In this epic story, Saxon Andrew takes us into the future and the lives of human and nonhuman characters, some we can easily relate to, and others who are a bit different. Along with a hearty dose of battles and spaceships, this is a story that offers humor and a tale of enduring love against the backdrop of galactic war on a grand scale.
Saxon Andrew is a former social worker with a degree in Psychology and Education from Mercer University. He has taught school, managed several sales organizations and owned his own business.
He has devoured science fiction since he first learned to read and his stories are the product of years of personal experience and exposure to the universes created by the genre’s great authors.
He lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife and two dogs who still appreciate his sense of humor after all these years. "Dogs are always ready to smile."
Impossible to finish this book. It is written in such a way that tangents lead in to clichés that lead in to complicated expositions that give nothing to the overall experience.
One star ratings are for books I just could not finish. Being the Authors first book, I could tolerate some of the writing idiosyncrasies, but the poor science killed it. Never mind the psychic powers, the "Coronado Solar Panel" just killed it. A floor mat sized solar panel able to produce more power than a square mile of conventional panels, and store excess efficiently too!
The solar output reaching the earth's surface is just over a kilowatt per square meter, under optimum conditions (sea level, and the equator, high noon during an equinox). Where conventional solar panels are only 20% efficient, even increasing that efficiency to 100% would not provide the power described.
Science fiction does need some speculation, loosely based on our understanding of physics, or even beyond that, but some things are just too much.
Badly written. The author uses constant monologues by various characters for exposition, and it feels very clunky and downright annoying after a while.
The characterisation and plot are overly simplistic even for a YA title. The protagonist is overpowered, creating no tension or real sense of challenge.
The technology is... magic, not only the main character's powers but the various weapons used.
Overall I felt that this book wasn't even at the level of pulp SF (which can be entertaining when in the mood).
The technology in this book is handled in a very simplistic fashion. Would have to say the same with regard to storyline/plot. Was too contrived and storybook for me.
That said, I oddly enjoyed it. Not enough to read any sequels that may exist, but not disappointed to have read this book.
Plot summary: a boy growing up learns that he has "special powers". He has mastered the art of not being seen. Simultaneously, Earth is being targeted for destruction by a couple of alien races. The two plot threads join up and proceed from there.
In this science fiction novel, a boy named Thomas Anglo Gardner, nicknamed Tag, has a series of intergalactic adventures. Mentioned early in the book is an alien species that resembles a cross between four-armed Kangaroos and gorillas, although as the following text mentions a few different alien species, it can be easy to forget which race is which. Even so, there are some amusing popular culture references that round out this recommended read.
This is a very good sci fi tale that starts off a little slow, but picks up steam fast and not a minute of action stops from about the 45% mark to the end. This is one of those sci fi tales I had a hard time putting down, and I enjoyed it. The author does a good job with the technology and dialogue, although he lost me a few times with some of the alien race names. I found myself dreaming about some of the technology and wishing I had it right here, right now.
As I type this review, the book is just 99 cents in the Kindle store - grab it now before the price goes up, as it is a dollar well spent!
You're left with a good conclusion, but obviously wanting to know what further develops in the storyline so I just purchased the second book in the series
Fun, intriguing, surprising. Great sci-fi and character drama.
Ever read authors who describe the charcters' thoughts as the characters misunderstand one another, falsely assume motives, and struggle through relationships? Well, this author's characters are Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christi, and Murray Lenister with some Isaac Asimov and Larry Niven mixed in. Highly intelligent, incisive reasoning fun to read. Those brilliant minds are reflective of Saxon Andrew's own, I think. But Andrew adds integrity and compassion to his story's characters that especially appeal to me. Hopefully, to you. A great literary find for me!
Hundreds of years in the future Earth is limited to a small portion of the universe by an alliance of worlds bent on keeping all races under control so they are never overturned. Children with special powers are urged to conceal the treat as others have disappeared without warning. The nearest race has a fear of earthlings so powerful they attacked earth when earth had no war ships at all. 200 years of peace have now been breached and earth has to fight back. Good read love the story line and where unexpected help comes from.
Tons of tech, oodles of psychic mayhem and masses of space warfare. The characters are loveable, the bad guys deplorable, and the story magnificent. Only a few minor foibles throughout the entire book but none of them detract from a well written and action packed Space Opera that is deserving of the name. Now to get the next book....
I love this book!! Science fiction books made me start reading in junior high. This book has action, aliens, and a love story too. I'm rooting for Tag , Danielle, all of their friends, Earth , and even Atlas. I'm going to buy the next book and find out what happens when the aliens come back.
This is unabashed space opera. The heroes are noble and the villains are nasty. Maybe not as nasty as Chlorians or Eddorians, but gee, who is? I found myself smiling as I read it. Our Hero could give Kimball Kinnison a run for his money.
There were a few grammatical errors and geography issues. The last 30% of the book seemed rushed. The author had a good imagination. Some of the story was a little too convenient. Slow down, take your time. You will do well if you research more thoroughly.
This is my first Saxon Andrew book and I can totally see why his books are so popular. The story was imaginative, intricate, and it kept me wanting to know what was around the corner. I don't usually read heavy on the tech/action books because I prefer story-driven books, and this was a really happy surprise. The tech and action didn't replace the story, they enhanced it.
From beginning to end, the character TAG kept me engrossed, and I don't know if it was intentional, but the subliminal messages stood out. The name of the bad guys, the Cainth, my mind's eye kept seeing "Can't" and every time they lost a skirmish, it was like saying, "You CAN do it. Think positive. Don't ever say you Can't, because you CAN."
Sci-fi...no, you're wrong. this is a fantasy book, warped in science. I enjoy read this book, its not too heavy. But you can't compare it science to something like, honor harrington series. MC is someone that have an incredible gift....set to save his princess by defeating the fragon (government) and than through growth skill, wit, and luck survive. He than found magical sword (a starship) than become a champion. the only thing that surprise me in this book is that MC found another love, not with the one that he first love.
It's been a very long time since I've given a book 5 stars, especially the first book in a series. But from the very first page to the very last I was hooked. I just hope the following books can live up to my expectations. If you looking for a quick and engaging sci-fi read this is the book for you.
Another good book. I listened to the Audible version of Love Conquers All. Saxon has done a better job with both the plot and dialog compared to the Psychic Beginnings. I'm a bit jaded with having superman as the Antagonist, but still enjoyed the book.
Do you like stories where tens of thousands of people die ensuring the survival of Human civilization, and one person gets all the attentions, gets all the cakes, eats them, then gets a lot more cakes and eats them too ? If so, this book is for you.
This is a good book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a fast paced action type of read. Good characters, plot, and story line. I am buying the second book as soon as I finish writing this review.
