Here we go with the biscuits. I read Beloved before I started my DP project, so I recognized all the brothers' names from the biscuit-obsessed Hart family. I didn't realize I needed to read Christmas Cowboy before this one, so I'll go back and remedy that - but lordy - the biscuits. They are not that hard to make, people.
Okay, back to the story. This is a May/December-be-mean-to- your-housekeeper story. Hero is mean because he hasn't had sex since his fiance told him he was too old for her.
There is a 16 year gap in ages and hero is hiding behind that to obscure his wild attraction to the heroine. Heroine has lead a sheltered life on the rodeo circuit (how?) and now that her footloose and fancy-free father is dead, she wants to put down roots - literally. Her fondest hope is to study horticulture and grow roses.
She is also attracted to the hero, but knows better than to push him. Their push/pull relationship was fun to read about once the hero got over his temper tantrum when the heroine baked him a birthday cake.
He actually *explains* why he hates birthday cakes. (His abusive mother pushed his face in one and then beat him on his birthday then locked him in his room for his father to whip him again later in the day. ) He also makes it up to the heroine by giving her a sapphire pendant.
He is a big softy and can I say DP's writing has improved since the early books? Her characterization is so much better - there is a logic/motivation to the hero's actions that she had a hard time showing in her earlier works.
I won't belabor the plot, but just know the hero has a pet python that wraps itself around the heroine until the hero can coax him to release her. Then the hero kills a rattlesnake that is about to attack the heroine by throwing a knife and cutting it in half.
Paging Doctor Freud . . .
DP even gives a wink to this symbolism by having the hero describe how a "pretty neighbor" (sequel bait?) who studied psychology analyzed him. It's all tongue in check and surprisingly meta for DP.
The brothers trick the hero into marrying the heroine after he gets drunk and finds himself in the heroine's bed the next morning. The heroine goes along with it - because the hero isn't getting any younger and those roses won't plant themselves - but it backfires for the black moment. The hero storms off after realizing she was still a virgin and he didn't take advantage of her. Heroine decides she's tired of waiting around for the hero and she leaves without a note.
She gets a job as a pastry chef in a St. Louis restaurant. She's doing well, but is lonely. Hero tracks her down for a grovel and a declaration of love. HEA.

For some reason, the stars aren't showing. This was a 3 star.
The hairy-chested hero has been celibate for about a million years since his old fiancee dumped him for a younger man. Three years younger.
He’s a little gruff with the sweet young thang of a heroine who’s in the kitchen baking biscuits and even crosses into mean territory when he pitches a fit about his birthday cake, but by Diana Palmer standards he is a pussy cat. He even talks about his FEELINGS!
“I’ve been pretty bitter. I haven’t wanted my heart twisted out of my chest again. Then, she came along.”
He nodded in the general direction of the kitchen. “With her curly red hair and big blue eyes and that pert little boyish figure.” He shook his head as if to clear the image from it. “Damn it, I ache just looking at her!” He whirled. “I’ve got to get her out of here before I do something about it!”
He makes the much younger and very virginal heroine buy some new clothes so he can ignore her. Shockins, a local swain asks her out. Betrayal.
Sandy picked her up early for the dance in his low-slung used red Corvette.
Cag was nearby and he watched them with cold eyes, so eaten up with jealousy that he could hardly bear it. She was wearing their dress, to top it all, the blue dress he’d helped her pick out when he’d taken her shopping. How could she wear it for that city dude?
Honestly, are you a DP hero?
Diana, are you okay? Your hero doesn't seem up to the regular cruel comments and slut-shaming antics your standard issue humongous and hairy heroes indulge in. And no other woman on his arm to throw in the heroine's face? Really? Something is not right. Is there something wrong with this one?
Callaghan’s biscuit eating, interfering brothers manipulate them into a marriage and there we go. He’s mean. So mean she shows him.
For a while.
Diana Palmer’s world is so simple and kind of sweet.
Not my favorite Diana Palmer book, but still better than most of what I’ve picked up lately. 🤷🏼♀️😅
There’s some good damsel in distress and bulldozery moments in here. All the throw-back thinking makes a fun read for me. So much of this would never make it to the page now. It’s really a pity. 🤷🏼♀️🤣
Bottom Line? It made for a pleasant evening read but nothing super amazing here. It’s missing the typical OW drama angst. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️
- no cheating or sharing - no OW drama - OM drama - no dubcon - h is a 22-yr old virgin - H is 38 and experienced but has been celibate for several years - no condoms
Callaghan's Bride (Diana Palmer) "He was fighting a raging arousal that had shocked him senseless. Tess was beginning to have a very noticeable effect on him, and he was quite sorry that he'd insisted on bringing her here." ========== "You don't like me." "Liking doesn't have anything to do with this." ========== "What do you expect, you scrawny little redhead, that the sight of you maddens me with such passion that I'm likely to ravish you on the floor? You don't even have a woman's body yet!" ========== "Listen, redhead, I love you!"
I gave this book two stars just for the Hart brothers mania for biscuits. They were kinda cute.
Let's meet the H/h: Callaghan is a broody and silent man who doesn't want any sort of relationship. Tess is the new housekeeper and BISCUIT-MAKER who is scared to death of Cag for half the book, then discovers that under all those glares and frowns there's just a man scared of hurting again and so after ups and downs they have their HEA.
Actually the story wasn't so bad, I just couldn't stand the main characters. I encounter this problem in every Diana Palmer's book (with a few exceptions). I keep reading her books hoping to find an enjoyable couple and more often than not I'm disappointed.
Callaghan is an asshole. I never felt the need to reach into the book and strangle him, so I guess he wasn't too much bad. He was cold, incapable of expressing his feelings and sending confusing signals. He kisses her, then mocks her, then he feels bad and starts all over again. I can forgive him because in his fucked-up way he thought he was doing the right thing.
Tess. Ah... I have no words. Is she for real? At twenty-two she isn't exactly a child. Ok, she is naive and innocent, but her level of naiveness borders on stupidity. She doesn't know anything of the facts of life, she is totally clueless. She nearly faints whe Cag speaks the WORD. Yeah, he says BRA in her presence, isn't it unbelievable? I just couldn't buy it.
But what really gives me the creeps about this book (and the majority of the others) is the closed mentality.
The heroine is quite always a virgin. Now there's nothing wrong with this and I totally respect her choice. What I can't stand is the fact the the author makes it look like an unforgivable sin, a you-will-burn-in-hell kind of sin. If God forbid a woman sleeps with a man outside of marriage she is labeled a whore, but for the man there's nothing wrong. A man has his needs after all. Right. It makes me grit my teeth. <"These days, most girls don't care what they do and they're clued up about how to take care of themselves. It makes it rough for the few of us who don't think it's decent to behave that way. Men seem to expect a girl to give out on the first date and they get mad when she won't." He traced a cut on his chaps. "So you stopped going out." She nodded. "It seemed the best way."> Tess and Cag. WTF??? I don't comment on the decent part. As for the rest, not every man gets mad and even if he did just cut your losses and move on. There's no need for all this drama. Seriously.
"Can't we go home?" She made the word sound soft, mysterious, enticing. He'd lived in houses all his life. She made him want a home. But it wasn't a thing he was going to admit just yet, even to himself.
I said I'd never read another DP novel again. Well I broke down and read one more but mostly it was because I got it for free and for some odd reason thought that maybe this would be a little better. Well it really wasn't.
Although not as bad as some of the previous DP novels I've read it still wasn't good.
Cag was jerk, Tess was a doormat, and the brothers were idiots.
Cag would insult, taunt, and be just plain rude to Tess. He flipped out over a birthday cake, throwing it at the wall. He'd kiss Tess, then ignore her and be cold to her and then he'd wonder why she would avoid him. He was so back and forth I was wondering if he was bipolar.
Why Tess would be attracted Cag I have no idea. The guy kept calling her a child (she's 22, he's 38), he talks to her like she's an idiot (which she kind of is for falling for him), but none of these things would make me swoon, in fact they would ensure this guy had zero chance with me. The fact that Tess never stood up to Cag and called him on his crap annoyed me. The fact that she stayed there after all his insults just made me want to bash my head against the wall.
The brothers were actually more irriating than anyone. First one of the brothers saw Tess shaking after her encounter with Cag and the cake, and instead of calling Cag out for his crappy behavior he explained it away. Cag would never lay a violent hand on you, he's always been like that. So it's perfectly ok to flip out like a crazy person because that's just their way? Then they continue to make excuses for his behavior, it got me worried that if Cag ever physically abused Tess they'd explain that away too. And finally the last irritating thing, after Cag
This time I absolutely mean it, no more Diana Palmer books, this one is going in the trash bin.
kakak beradik Hart terkenal doyan biskuit tp ga ada 1pun yg pinter membuatnya jadilah mereka selalu memburu orang yg pintar membuat biskuit.
Tess, si mungil yg baru aja bekerja di keluarga Hart sangat pandai membuat biskuit. kayaknya kerjaan Tess tiap saat buatin biskuit ya wakakakakaka
callaghan, terkenal pendiam & muram. si tess takut2 suka ma callaghan. nah si callghan ini punya piaran ular pyton lhooo (yyg dinamain herman a ampun kagak salah tuh piaraaan ko ular mbok ya yg wajar2 aja kayak anjing or apa gitu pake dikasih nama lain...)
si callaghan walo keliatan cuek & galak amat ma tess tapi sebenarnya dia memperhatikan tess (diem2 tentunya) buktinya pernah tess waktu nganterin makanan eh kepatuk ular lgs cag pucat
duh novel ini samar2 doank kuingat... yg ku ingat si tess yg yatim piatu akhirnya mendapat warisan jadi dia pindah dari jacobsville (sekalian ngindarin si callaghan tentunya - hal yg buat ray & leo ngambek berat ma si cag karena gara2 dia tess pergi akhirnya mereka ga bisa makan biskuit enak buatan tess lagi wakakakakaka ada2 aja) tess pengen jadi chef tapi trnyt semua renca tess tak berjalan sesuai rencana
seingatku tar akhirnya callaghan nyusul tess deh....trus dibawa pulang trus akhirnya eh ada bedroom segala *wink wink* kejadian terulang si ray & leo nylonong masuk nemuin cag & tess ber 2 diranjang langsung tanpa ba bib u be bo maksa cag nikahin tess (katanya sih demi kehormatan tess suit suit)
dasar emang si ray & leo iseng kagak karuan belum kena batunya tuh
Callaghan was very mean and nasty towards Tess, DP showed how innocent Tess was, Tess was genuinely a nice young girl, No matter how mean Callaghan was, he never broke Tess’s sprite. In the end little Miss sweet and innocent made him stop the world to get her back. He want running to her. When he find her she was handling her business all by her sweet little innocent self. I loved this book, I loved both and H/h.
Number 3 in the Hart brothers saga(otherwise known as the biscuit brothers) I read this within the last year, but for some reason it was not rated or reviewed by me or even marked as read. I did not realize at the time that this was part of a bigger series. A couple of months ago I read Corrigan’s story from a 2nd hand book I bought. He was the first of the brothers to marry. Then Simon is married in book 2 (Beloved) Anyhoo, on this Father’s Day weekend I decided to plow through the whole series(even reading this one again) in order. That means I have 4 reviews to write. Or do I???hmm🤔 Actually StMargarets leaves fantastic reviews for DP’s books, so down below is a link to her review. One thing I like about this series, is that I get to see our previous couples. Don’t forget to click on the link. Stmargarets provides great checklists to make you laugh out loud.
This is the last book I needed to read in the Hart brothers series of the Long Tall Texans stories. Callaghan (Cag) Hart doesn't have a steady woman and he won't get one as long as he insist on keeping his pet python and demanding that any woman that enters his life be able to make biscuits.
Tess Brady hates the snake but can make great biscuits. She's the new housekeeper and like most women in the Hart men's lives, has secrets. She is also very drawn to Cag. He knows it and he feels the same way but he's not interested in marriage and Tess appears to sweet and innocent for anything less than marriage. Of course all the Hart men were never initially interested in marriage but with the right women handling the situation, they eventually tumble. Cag is no different but Tess has her work cut out getting this particular Hart brother to fold.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced tale though I had a good idea of how the story would go because the Hart brothers are a lot alike. I suggest though that others that are trying at least this particular portion of the Long Tall Texans books, read the stories of the Hart brothers in order.

Pemuda-pemuda Hart pada emosian semua. Mudah marah, mudah cembokor.
Duh lagi demen-demennya. Jadi baca harlequin mulu😆
God..i luv calaghan hart... pokoknya buku nya dia gw baca berkali2... gw suka juga sama si tess nya yang selalu mengkerut kalo ada si cag saking takutnya hahaha... keren banget...mesti baca lagi buat yang ke 3 kalinya :D
Loved it! These biscuit loving hart brother have to be my favorite characters of all her books thus far. They absolutely crack me up. And I loved that she fought back with them it made the book so much better!
I liked it, but it wasn't as good as I thought it was when I read it 10 years ago. It was a slow burn, It took forever for them to even kiss. I thought they would have married sooner than chapter 10.
I did like that there was no other woman drama and that Cal was celibate for 7 years. I liked that he was clearly very into Tess from the beginning and while he was mean at times he would feel bad about it, he was definitely not even close to being as bad as Evan. I liked that he couldn't let her leave him or the ranch and kept coming up with excuses why she should wait til the next season.
I liked Tess even though she was a pushover, while I was annoyed she kept working for him after some things he said I get that not all heroines can be confident and assertive. I liked that she disappeared after he abandoned her on their wedding night after being so mean to her, just wished she had stayed disappeared for longer so he could suffer more for what he said to her. Np.
*I kinda hate how I'm just numb to Diana Palmer heroes saying horrible things and I'm just like well he wasn't as bad a Evan when he bullied Anna by showing up with another woman everywhere she went as well as past her place of work everyday for a month.
Am currently on a Diana Palmer reading binge (weather is either nuclear hot with 140% humidity or lucious thunderstorms with power outages). This one is about the Hart brothers who are all alpha males with a biscuit addiction and a weakness for virginal, younger women who can heal their damaged hearts and show them what true love can accomplish. There are some humorous episodes in that the brothers can rapidly engineer amazing weddings (they are wealthy after all) with excellent outcomes. This brother had to separate from his pet snake after it wrapped itself around his crush without crushing (just had to!!).
The storyline was interesting, the story flowed and I would love to find my own Jacobsville and the warm people who live there. There are the occasional squirrels and most problems seem to cause the residents to band together to protect one of their own and help them towards their HEA.
I love this author's style even though many of the stories follow a similar blueprint. There is enough of the story, the suspense and the feelings to make each a little different with people you care about in an environment that I envy.
Callaghan is a quiet and intense rancher, ex military and confirmed bachelor. Tess is a innocence and inexperience young woman that becomes the new housekeeper of the 3 remaining bachelor Hart brothers. I love that their love for each other didn't happen within days but months. They both had time to really get to know each other and time for their feelings to get deeper. A trully enjoyable read and I highly recommend it
I really liked this book, with young, earnestly sweet h, and the H who has been mean to her, for years. She has no family, uneducated, eager to please and he acts as if he hates her, really he hates that he's attracted to her. Of course she loves him, and I loved seeing them come together, and him finally working out how to be a better person. I wanted this trope, and this writer was great - exactly what I wanted.
