Eternity of Vengeance, Book 7 of the Heku Series, continues the long journey following Chevalier and Emily. Emily still holds Frederick in her grasp as all three factions strive to get him back to avoid a major war. Furious, the Encala go to extreme measures to get their Elder back and Emily finds herself in over her head. Her dangerous ways and lack of what Chevalier calls 'self-preservation' drives her heku guards to try harder to protect her, even sending one over the edge. Delve deeper into Chevalier's personality when Emily goes missing and he's forced to go on without her. See how things worked in the faction before her arrival and the lengths the Equites will go to to get her back. Strange things begin happening to Emily and the heku watch helplessly as she suffers through mysterious ailments.
T.M. Nielsen doesn't necessarily consider herself an author. She's an every-day woman who had a story to tell. Never intending to let anyone else read it, she decided to put it all down on paper. What she ended up with is a fascinating tale filling 7 books full of drama, adventure, action, romance, and excitement.
When asked why she decided to publish, she stated, "I want for others to be able to forget about problems in life and to lose themselves in my world... the world of the heku. While I write, I laugh, cry, grin, gasp, and my heart races. I want others to experience that too."
T.M. Nielsen is a computer tech by trade and lives with her husband and two beautiful daughters.
This book, at first, felt like it was a repeat of all the others. The same characters and pretty much with the same plots. Emily repeatedly gets captured and beaten up, which seems to happen over and over again. At some point while reading this I thought I was finally getting tired of the series, but then, something big happens (can't say what...don't want to spoil it for others)and for the first time while reading this entire series, I cried. Couldn't stop crying seemed like for 3 chapters. Even with the tragedy, I was excited again to be reading this series. I struggled to give this story a 4 or a 3. I eventually decided on a 3 because there is a point in this book where yet once again Chevalier, Kyle, Kralen, Mark, & Silas have to leave Emily behind with guards she doesn't know. Anyone that has read the other books know that when this happens, something always happens to Emily. "HELLO", by now you would think that at least one out of the 5 of them would be smart enough to know that there needed to be one person left with her to watch out for her. Like let's say, any one of her kids - Allen, Alexis, or Dain or by all means, I think Anna would have been great, she seems to care alot for her, or the doctor? This seems to be the one place in this book, where the writer could have tried to come up with some reason for no one to have been available to watch over Emily in their absense. Not only could she not come up with any logical reason, but she also failed in her writing by having Chevelier yell at Dain as he's walking out the door, pointing out the fact that he was staying behind, by saying "I've already told you and I'm not going to say it again" which implies that Chevelier isn't allowing Dain to go with them. Come on could you not spell it out for us next time. Dain was left behind! Why could he not have went with Emily. She was taken to Powan to be guarded while they were out to war and instead was buried alive by the same people supposed to be protecting her. HELLO!!!
I'm sorry but I really can't stand Emily. I thought that through the series she will grow up, become more mature, start act in some rational way - as every human being would, but I was deeply disappointed. She's still a brat, when she doesn't get what she wants, she just packs her things and go, then everone is looking for her, beg her to come back, she finally agrees, but then again she doesn't get what she wants so she packs her things and go and so on and so on. I don't really unterstand why everyone around her puts up with it. Also every time a heku tells her the truth (that she is spoilled, always pouting, that she just takes and gives nothing in return etc) it turns out that this heku is some psycho and needs to be banished or killed or whatever. She just wanders around aimlessly, slips her guards, gets kidnapped and tortured, then she's being saved by the Equites but learns nothing from the experience and still wanders around ans slips her guards telling everyone that she's perfectly capable of taking care of herself but then again gets kidnapped and tortured. Where's the point in that? Chevalier is just blinded, he allows Emily to do whatever she likes because if not she will go away, or erase everyones memory or just turn them to ash and then go away and strong, thousands-year-old vampires won't be able to stop her. He's a good father, way better than husband. The whole Council is weak and blinded by Emily : "Oh she brought here so much joy, we'll just snad here and let her put herself and the whole faction at every risk possible. Yes, that's an awesome idea!". The series is pretty good (I mean the plot) but if there were some good, strong main characters, it would be better. I mean, a lot better.
I want to start by saying I actually liked the first six books of the series very much. I just don't understand what happened in the last book; I don't think I have ever been so let down by what happened. Never in my entire time of reading series books have I seen such a complete break of character for a main one. In books 1-6 the main character of Emily is strong confident sarcastic stubborn a fast rebounder tempermental out-spoken and a prankster. In this book not only does the author not have her as any of those but makes her the complete opposite of each. She is submissive weak quiet and reclusive. I understood reasons based on the plot but the author didn't even attempt to bring the character out of the stump they put them in. It would have taken time in the story and time was given with no turn around. Emily had been through many turmultuous events throughout every single book that should have broken her and never did until the end. I wish I had stopped at six to not see the complete humiliation the author gave. You simply cannot create such a stubborn strong headed character and then not let it end with them bouncing back with the same tenacity as the other books in the series. I am at a loss for what truly happened to the real Emily of this series.
The book started out good, with the constant suspense of what was slowly killing Emily. I liked that Frederick was the one getting back at her for holding him captive, and I also liked the fact that she was dead (for a short time). However, I always find myself getting annoyed almost at her recovering from Salazar's captivity. Every time she was captured and tortured before she was fine-ish, but this time she was totally ruined. But I guess it's a good thing to be annoyed by it, because it's what the characters experience with her.
I have to agree with some about the change of character. Doesn't seem to be the same character I've been reading about in the last 6 books. Being known as a head-strong, tough character, I was a bit surprised on the turnabout on this book. But nonetheless, T.M. Nielsen still delivered exciting adventures. Now on to book 8!!
This book was absolutely amazing!!! The books seem to just get better and better. More enticing, more adventure, more of absolutely everything. Cannot wait to read the rest. The best way to describe it is adictive! One book that I will read over and over...
I actually bawled during parts of this book. Holy cow!!! The rage that Chevaliar showed was almost scary to me, but at the same time, completely heart warming---knowing he did all that for the love of his life!!!
Excellent story line totally engrosed from start to finish.... I love this series and I have read the whole thing at least a dozen time's... I always fall back on it when I run out of things to read......LOVE IT. LOVE IT. LOVE IT.
