This is the 2nd time I checked this book from the library. I bought a bunch of specialty flours that the author uses. The author has a couple of criticisms in the book against people who substitute willy-nilly. So I wanted to stick to the recipes.. I tried 1 recipe; Dad's Summer Squash page 70. It was good but not great, neither sweet enough nor savory/salty enough. I am willing to try a couple more recipes

Complete is a misnomer but...the book does have a wide selection of sweet, savory and in between recipes. The authoress has some good advice for turning out great muffins as well.

I was so excited to get this book. I love baking and who doesn't like a good muffin? but I was very quickly disappointed. The only positive this book has going for it are the interesting flavour combinations of some of the muffins but you'd need to apply the flavour ideas to a different basic muffin recipe because these recipes are largely inedible.
The recipes involve using several different types of flour which aren't always easily sourced, certainly none of the supermarkets or delis in my neighbourhood stock these flours. Converting to more common flour types is not as straightforward as you would think and the book offers very little in the way of conversion tools. Many of the flours suggested can be quite pricey and to be honest, who has the space in their pantry to store a dozen different flours?
I could overlook the flour problem if the muffins themselves were worth the hassle but sadly, they're not. Every muffin I made from this book came out stodgy, bland and/or heavy. The texture of some of the breakfast muffins is almost like soggy cereal and quite unpleasant to eat. Most of the muffins I made ended up in the bin because they just weren't very appetising.
If you're looking for a book with great tasting, quality muffins, this book isn't it.

B+ A lot of really yummy muffins, including savory muffins. I love the way she writes (she uses the word "Mmmm" a lot) and a lot of the recipes are healthier. Mmmmm.
