Since its inception nearly 25 years ago, the feminist art movement has transformed the art world. Now, two professors of art history bring together 18 influential historians, critics, and artists to create this landmark volume. 245 illustrations, many in full-color. Bibliography. Notes. Time line.
I loved the inclusion of so many authors and pieces that allowed the book to more broadly encapsulate the extensive & complex 70’s feminist art movement.
an ACTUAL conversation "Why do all these early feminist artists make art work that looks like 18 year old girls from SAIC?" "Because they all read and loved this book."
For researchers interested in a vast perspective on the changes in art in the Post World War II era, I highly recommend reading this book. You cannot understand the changes that occured without understanding the feminist movement in art.
An educational introduction to feminist art. Obviously not a world-wide, comprehensive history. But, it gets you started, and shares some of the most influential and relevant works of the then movement and time period, looking from an American point of view ( hey it's a 'blockbuster' book).
