Bright, colorful pictures accompany the lyrics to "America" (better known as "My Country, 'Tis of Thee") in this little book.
The only thing I take issue with is the picture ostensibly showing the Pilgrims. At first glance, I thought it was depicting Ponce de Leon and his entourage searching for the fountain of youth, and closer inspection did not negate that impression. (I don't know why it seems like Ponce de Leon instead of another Spaniard to me, but in any case it is certainly not the Pilgrims.)
For one thing, the Pilgrims did not land in armor. For another, they landed in Massachusetts in November, and there are flowers blooming in the picture, which is definitely not intended as a winter scene.
It's "just" a book for kids, but it's so important to have accuracy ESPECIALLY in books for kids.
"Not as the conqueror comes, they, they true-hearted came..."
A child who doesn't know better (and most probably don't) would get an entirely false view of the Pilgrims from the picture, and since they Pilgrims are kinda a little bit important in the history of our nation, that's kinda a big deal.
This would be a great book to add to a patriotic library, but I think it would be important for parents to point out that glaring inaccuracy.

Beautiful pictures to go with the Song America The Beautiful. Great for school aged kids who would like some visual context to the words they are singing. Obviously its more superficial than you would like for an older school aged child, but for lower grades is perfect!

Ok I kinda feel like it would be a little unamerican for me to give this book anything other than five stars. But other than that fact the pictures in the book are moving. Seriously this book hits a lot of American history that could really get a great discussion going. There are so many great pictures and was a really great tribute to the song.

This book based off the patriotic song "My Country 'tis Of Thee," would be helpful in teaching children one of the most beloved songs in our country. The students will enjoy looking at each of the pictures included in the book that represent different important parts of our country. This book would be especially good to read to your students close to the 4th of July.

I think it is important to teach children to be patriotic. This book did a great job to show the song in a way that makes it interesting for children. In elementary school we did a music program with patriotic songs. I think it would be a nice idea to do a program around a patriotic holiday. Showing children books to go with songs can be helpful in them remembering the words in the long run.

I am always baffled by books that are nothing but song lyrics. I suppose this is a good way to teach songs to children, but I am not big on packaging this as literature and selling it. Nothing special about this book, including the pictures.

This is a great book! I read it in my 1st grade placement. It is the song "My Country Tis of Thee." They use real photographs of various places in The United States.
